Question: would a in cust be updated even though the update is to the CTE column named columna? Or would there be an error where the column name must match?
I have a table with hundreds of millions of records and need to update an xml column to null. I do something like this:

I have a csv file of quotes. I need to IMPORT the quotes into my SQL Server database. I created the table with an autonumber identity column, but the IMPORT fails because I can't INSERT NULL into my identity column. There is no option to autonumber or anything when I click the TRANSFORM button on the IMPORT wizard. So, I have decided to allow NULLS on the ID column and add the numbering later. I'd rather not have to manually number it, is there a way to do it with a query? I treid just setting it to not allow NULLS and to auto-incrememnt, but that didn't work....

I have table of three column first column is an ID column. However at creation of the table i have not set this column to auto increment. Then i have copied 50 rows in another table to this table then set the ID column values to zero.

I have a script that loops through a series of tables to send data to a table from each of the tables. My issue is that not all tables have the columns I need in them. What I would like is to replace the column with another column when it does not exist. Something like below

I currently have a AFTER UPDATE trigger that looks at a specific column being updated. It works great, but I am now needing to also capture the field data when it is initially created as well. Do I need to build a sperate FOR INSERT trigger to capture the initial column data when inserted, or is it possible to build it into my current AFTER UPDATE trigger?

I have an address table, and a log table will only record changes in it. So we wrote a after udpate trigger for it. In our case the trigger only need to record historical changes into the log table. so it only needs to be an after update trigger.The trigger works fine until a day we found out there are same addresses exist in the log table for the same student. so below is what I modified the trigger to. I have a table with Million plus records. Due to Running Totals article, I have been able to calculate the Trial_Balance for all months.
Now I am trying to provide a Beginning Balance for all months and the Logic is the Beginning Balance of July would be the Trial_Balance of June. I need to be able to do this for multiple account types. So the two datasets that need to be included in logic is actindx and Calendar_Month.
For actindx of 2 and Calendar_Month of 2014-01-01The Trial_Balance_Debit is 19585.46 This would make the Beginning_Balance of actindx 2 and Calendar_Month of 2014-02-01 19585.46

Imagine the following scenario: two tables (say, "requests" and "details") are joined in a 1:n relationship on MSSQL 2008. Both tables contain an ID (autoincrement field) and a timestamp field for proper concurrency management. Data access in the frontend is provided by a typed dataset in VS 2010. There are SPs on the server which select, update, insert or delete data in each of the two tables (so, 8 SPs alltogether: uspRequestsSelect, uspDetailsInsert etc.). These SPs are used for data access in the dataset. The GUI is a Windows form with 2 datagridviews, one for request datatable and one for the child-relation-based datatable FK_request_details. So, each request shows its details. The form works well so far.
Now, trouble strikes. A business rule says: "the first details row of a request (=row with lowest ID) always has a 0 in column "additional fee". For additional detail rows, this field has to be set to constant value 45". In short: the first detail row of each request is free, second and later details are charged 45 €.
So, I created a SP "uspRequestFeeManager", which recalculates all (!) detail rows of a request. This SP is called in uspDetailsInsert, uspDetailsUpdate and uspDetailsDelete, as each of this cases causes the additional fee to be recalculated for all rows (as rowcount can change). In Management Studio, this works as well!
But: as the uspRequestFeeManager changes data even for rows the user did NOT touch, there's a concurrency exception in my frontend in the following case:
In a request with 2 detail rows (first row has fee = 0, second = 45), the user deletes the row with fee = 0. Committing via TableAdapterManager calls uspDetailsDelete, which calls uspRequestFeeManager, which sets the remaining single details row to a fee value of 0 (which is correct!). This causes TableAdapterManager.UpdateAll to fail ("concurrency exception; delete command has handled 0 of 1 expected records"), as uspRequestFeeManager has "edited" a row which the user didn't touch, and thus updated its timestamp as well. So, the list is out of sync.
The uspRequestFeeManager looked like a good idea... but it seems not to be.
Approach would be: instead of calling the uspRequestFeeManager from within the SP, call it programmatically after TableAfterManager.UpdateAll, and after that, 're-fill' the details datatable with the updated data. But that would transfer business logic from server to client. I don't like that...
Have installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Express (includes SSMS tool) on Windows server 2008 R2 sp1 without any issues.Database created with no issues, full text catalog created via the wizard also with no issues but cannot run the process as a scheduled task of updating the catalog because the SQL agent is not available in the express version.
The full text index information is already being populated and updated by a third party application so this leaves just the catalog to be updated as and when new full text information is available.
I have a third party SQL scheduler which will run SQL scheduled tasks but requires a script to run the full text catalog update process
Is it possible to extract a script from the existing full text catalog to run the update process or how to create a script from scratch to do the same update catalog process in the third party scheduler?

I have to populate a table of exchange rates which is easy enough however because rates are held on Fridays but I need to make calculations on weekends or holidays I need to populate the Friday rate on non weekends and holidays.
