There are four tables
1. Matter
MID, CID, RType
001, a, m
002, a, m
003, b, m
004, c, m
2. Category
CID. RType
a, T
b, T
c, T
3. Security assignmnet
RID, RType, GID
001, m, g01
002, m, g01
002, m, g02
002, m, g03
003, m, g01
003, m, g03
a, T, g01
a, T, g02
a, T, g03
b, T, g02
b, T, g03
b, T, g04
4. Group
GID
g01
g02
g03
g04
I'd like to find the record in table #1 "Matter" which has exact record of "GID" in table #3 "Security Assignment" compare with table #2 "Category"
In this case, it is record of "002" bacause "002" in table#1 "Matter" and the record "a" in table #2 "category" both has exact GID records(g01, g02, g03) in table #3, "Security Assignment"
How can I create qury to find all the possible record in the table #2?

I want to compare ONLY 1 Column values from 2 tables having more than 4.9 million records. There is a difference of 4000 rows between the 2 tables.
SELECT ID From TABLE1 where ID not in (SELECT DISTINCT ID From TABLE2)
My above query took nearly 4.5 hours to run and I had to cancel it. Is there a better way to write the query . I just want to compare the ID - column values which are missing in TABLE2

Hi,
I need to merge tables from several databases. Before the merge the table contents must be checked to rule out any duplicates.
Is there a most efficient way to do it? Thanks to you all.

I downloaded a day's worth of data into a single table first and named it as Full_Day_Data_Table.(10,000 records)
Later for some other purpose, downloaded the same day's data into five small tables.
Now when I compare the total row count of Full_Day_Data_Table vs Sum of row counts of five small tables, the row count does not match.
So, I would like to know the records that exists in Full_Day_Data_Table and not in small tables.

i have two tables.
Table A
IdName
101Dante
102Henry
103Harold
104Arnold
Table B
NumberName
102Dante
107Gilbert
109Harold
110Arnold
106Susan
112Marian
I want the result in table 3 like below, if value exists in Table A and not exists in Table B then the record should enter in table 3 with table name in new column, and vice versa.
Table C
Col1Col2
HenryTable A
Gilbert Table B
Susan Table B
Marian Table B
using below logic to get the values from tables..
select
t1.columnA
, t2.*
from
table1 t1
join table2 t2 on t2.columnB = t1.columnA

I'm not a full-time DBA, so excuse my style of expressing my question.I have a database which has 2 tables in SQL 2005. Both these tables have similar column names, EXCEPT for new extra columns in FY2007_DATA. I can visually see the difference in columns in Database Diagrams. My goal is to :- I want to compare FY2007 tbl column names to FY2006 column names and display only those columns as results that do not match.Tbl 1 :- FY2006_DATA Tbl 2:-
FY2007_DATA
With online reading and help I have managed to get this script to do exactly opposite of what i want. Below is the query
/* This query compares the column names from two tables and displays the ones that have an exact match. It does not care for case-sensitiveness */
Select a.Table_Name, a.Column_Name, (b.Table_Name), (b.column_name)
From [2006-2011].INFORMATION_SCHEMA.Columns AS a
Join [2006-2011].INFORMATION_SCHEMA.Columns AS b on a.Column_Name = b.Column_Name
Where a.TABLE_NAME = 'FY2006_DATA'
And b.TABLE_NAME = 'FY2007_DATA'
AND a.Column_Name IN
(Select Column_Name = LEFT(c.column_name, 20) FROM
[H1B_2006-2011].INFORMATION_SCHEMA.Columns AS c WHERE c.TABLE_NAME = 'FY2007_DATA' )
When I change "AND a.Column_Name IN.." to "AND a.Column_Name NOT IN.." so that the results will (should) display the extra columns in FY2007, in fact I do not see any results, but query executes perfect.
How can I achieve my goal.?
Thank you

insert into sales_header (SALES_ID, CUST_ID, SALES_AMOUNT)
select SALES_DETAIL.sales_id, SUM(SALES_DETAIL.prod_price) as sales_amount, CUSTOMER.CUST_ID
from SALES_DETAIL, CUSTOMER
where SALES_HEADER.sales_id = CUSTOMER.cust_id
group by sales_detail.SALES_ID, CUSTOMER.cust_id;
It shows parsed correctly, but giving error: The multi-part identifier "SALES_HEADER.CUST_ID" could not be bound. How to insert from multiple tables when there are no primary / foreign keys & relationships.

I am trying to figure out an automated way to get a list of all the tables used in a set of 275 T-SQL scripts. i do not want to go through each script manually, look at all the from clauses and write down the tables used.
I have managed to get all the 275 scripts into a table on SQL Server 2008 R2 database. one column per each script, so there are 275 rows in the table.
FYI: each query can have multiple result sets, so multiple from clauses can exist.
For Example:
Query 1 = SELECT * FROM Table1 a
INNER JOIN Table2 b ON b.Field = a.Field
LEFT OUTER JOIN Table3 c ON c.Filed = b.Field
UNION ALL
SELECT * FROM Table4 a
INNER JOIN Table5 b ON b.Field = a.Field
LEFT OUTER JOIN Table6 c ON c.Filed = b.Field
Desired Output = Table1, Table2, Table3, Table4, Table5, Table6

I am trying to replace all special characters in a column with one special character.
Example:
Table: dbo.Employee
Column: Name
Name
-------
edwardneuman!"<]
mikemoreno)'>$:
JeffJensen"?>"
I am trying to get the namepart to the left of ANY special character. To achieve this, I am thinking of replacing all the special characters with a single special character so that I can find the first occurrence of that special character and grab left of the special character (SUBSTRING/CHARINDEX). This way I don't need to loop through all the special characters.
I am expecting the following results:
Name
-------
edwardneuman<<<<
mikemoreno<<<<<
JeffJensen<<<<

table 2: pending

Transactions are moved from one table to another when the transactions go through different states. How do I maintain a unique identity of a transaction across the 3 tables? Some transactions are added directly to confirmed. Having a counter table affects scalability and increase blocking! Please help.

Does anyone have a script that can add a GUID Column to multiple Tables in a Database.
For example when a table has an Identity column like EmployeeID, a column called EmployeeGUID is added to the table. When a table has an Identity column like CustomerID, a column called CustomerGUID is added to the table. When a table has an Identity column like OrderID, a column called OrderGUID is added to the table.
I intend to implement replication in SQL Server 2005, so i want to add new GUID columns to all the table in my database before implementing replication
The SQL script below adds a column to a single table in a database. But i need a script that can add a column to all the tables in a database.
Thanks
USE ProductDB
ALTER TABLE dbo.Employees
Add EmployeeGUID UNIQUEIDENTIFIER ROWGUIDCOL NOT NULL DEFAULT NEWSEQUENTIALID()

cmdBatchNbPdsLbsZONE
817159644 1.55320031
817159652 9.09590031
817159679 2.5891806

817159784 4.1547006
817159792 3.56576013
I need to extract the corresponding price from the following table:
Zone MaxWeight Price
---------------------- ---------------------------------------
31 1.70 7.14
31 2.20 8.76
31 3.30 9.47
31 4.40 9.69
31 5.50 10.61
31 6.60 11.05
31 7.70 11.49
31 8.80 11.93
31 9.90 12.37
31 11.00 12.81
31 12.10 13.23
In this case, the 2 first rows should give a price of
1) 7.14 (weight between 0 - 1.70)
2) 11.93 (weight between 8.80 - 9.90)
How can I do that with a query?

then my output would be as below:

I am fairly new to SQL and writing queries so bear with my faults. I am learning on the job, which is good and bad. Below is a query that I have written to obtain some information. The problem arises when we have a patient who goes from Patient Type '1' to Patient Type '2'. This needs to be considered a singular visit and the only way I can think that this may work is if: for any specific medical record a dsch_ts is equal to the Admit TS on the next row.
How to complete something like this and my google searches have been fruitless. I attached a spreadsheet with an example of what I am getting.
SELECT DISTINCT
TPM300_PAT_VISIT.med_rec_no,
TSM040_PERSON_HDR.lst_nm AS 'Last Name',

But, I am expected to produce a list with similar addresses which the guys who entered may have use slightly different spelling or more or less characters, or a "." here and there.
is there any way to create a query for this?

The problem is that when I run my compare I get false matches. Example:
CREATE TABLE #ABC (Acct VARCHAR(10), Que INT);
INSERT INTO #ABC VALUES
('2310947',110),
('2310947',245);

Which gives me two records when I really do not want any as the tables are identical.
