Backup And Restore From Current Setup To New Servers
Jun 23, 2015We are told that we cannot get remote access on our DB servers , can access them only via SQL management studio. But we are the one's who will be restoring all our DB's from current setup to new servers.
My Question:
1. Can we restore the DB's directly via SQL Management studio(from other server where management studio is installed) without logging into the DB server.
2. How do we set the mdf/ldf file paths, assuming we have elevated access on the DB. Is this possible?.
Any other blockers we can face?
Setup And Upgrade :: 2008 R2 Setup UI Has Incomplete List Of Installed Features - Can't Uninstall RS
Jul 23, 2015We're doing upgrades from SQL 2008 R2 to SQL 2014. This is blocked due to RS is installed but not configured. Our desired action is to uninstall RS and proceed with the upgrade. But when setuparp.exe is raised, it does not list all the features on the 'Select Features' page. In fact, it only lists the last 2 shared features (SQ Client Connectivity SDK and Microsoft Sync Framework). However, all items appear to be listed on the 'Select Instance' page including RS. I've seen this issue on 2 of our SQL 2008 R2 Servers already.

Hi there
I'm getting this message on my third automated backup of the transaction logs of the day. Both databases are in full recovery mode, both successfully backed up at 01.00. The transaction logs backed up perfectly happily at 01:30 and 05:30, but failed at 09:30.
The only difference between 05:30 and 09:30's backups is that the log files were shrunk at 08:15 (the databases in question are the ones that sit under ILM2007, and keeping the log files small keeps the system running better).
Is it possible that shrinking the log files causes the database to think that there hasn't been a full database backup?

I have a MS SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition 9.0.2153 which manages my BizTalk Server 2006 Databases. The BizTalk server installer automatically creates a job named Backup BizTalk Server (BizTalkMgmtDb) which should back up the databases and transaction protocolls.
The SQL Server Agent runs under domain-administrator account which has full access to my backup directory D:ackups.
The job executes the following steps:
Step 1: BackupFull:
Command:
exec [dbo].[sp_BackupAllFull_Schedule] 'd' /* Frequency */, 'BTS' /* Name */, 'D:Backups' /* location of backup files */
Step 2: MarkAndBackupLog
Command:
exec [dbo].[sp_MarkAll] 'BTS' /* Log mark name */, 'D:Backups' /* location of backup files */
My challenges are:
1. The job doesn't back up my databases(D:Backups is empty after executing the job)
2. I get every time the following error in error protocol of the job:
BACKUP LOG cannot be performed because there is no current database backup. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Fehler 4214) BACKUP LOG is terminating abnormally. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Fehler 3013).
I have already switched the Databases from full to simple recovery mode and vica versa, it didn't help. Also, the above stored procedures doesn't include neither the TRUNCATE nor the LOG parameters for the logfiles so I wasn't able to solve this issue by adjusting these flags.
Any help would be appreciated.

- We know that we can put expression on reports almost everywhere, and can also call custom code for setting up those expressions. i.e.

- second idea is to write a custom application (script) which can go through all the reports and change the color and fonts and every thing.
- third is to use parameters and use Array.IndexOf method to search for the value, but in this case i need to add dataset to all reports and, I think we cannot access report properties i.e. Parameters from custom code, just to make a generic function to access parameter value.

Jan 14, 2015I have a query that will go into an ssis package (eventually). The package will run every night at 3am. I need to capture the last 24 hours of by using something like:
SELECT worktype, changedate, woclass
where siteid = 'GTM' and woclass = 'WORKORDER' and istask = 0

I know I am not doing the between correctly to get the changedate between the last 24 hours. Is there a way to correct this so that I am only getting the change date that is between 3am today and 3am yesterday on any given day I happen to run this?

I want to get rid of the hard coding, and have this use current year dates. So for 2014, it should reference rows where the TCDateTime is >='2014-01-01 0:00' AND <'2015-01-01 0:00'..I think the following would accomplish this, but would like confirmation that this is the 'best' way (and that it will work!)
SELECT CONVERT(DATETIME, CONVERT(CHAR(4), DATEPART(yyyy, GETDATE())) + '0101') AS curryrbegin

Jan 21, 2015I have to download the files from SFTP server, for which i am using WINSCP and i am able to successfully automate the process to download the files. But it is downloading all the files instead of only current day's files. Ihave searched for WINSCP documentation for time query parameter to pass to the get command. But its not working.
My source file name contains Datefield as "Filenameexample_150120_N001.txt".
Here 150120 mean Jan 20 2015.
Winscp has no functionality to query the files to parse using datefield. how to look for files which are from today's date.
Currently i am downloading files which contain *.* (meaning all files).

If this information were pivoted horizontally: OMNI_NUMBER would be the primary key.
TIMESTAMP is a 10-digit integer that represents the number of seconds since 1/1/1970 UTC that requires additional conversion. DATA_TYPE is not the data type. It is a general categorization of the next two columns.PARAMTER would be the column headings if it were horizontal..PARAMETER_VALUE would be the data value in that column.
I would like to try to use PIVOT to list the PARAMETER column values as column headers. This seems to work fine. What's confusing me is that I'd like it to list the PARAMETER_VALUE column values as raw data, just as it is in the source version, without having to apply some sort of aggregate function to it. Here's a CSV sample of the data you can paste into Excel. I'm trying to transform this:

Now for each type the seq is very important. Effectively by order of seq the subtype stays the same until another subtype changes it. So for TYPE1 100,110 and 150 are A. 170, 200,220 are B. 230 and 250 are C and so on.
However as you can see the data isnt actually stored in the row. I need a select statement that shows this data.
I have done this:

Power Pivot :: Field List Does Not Refresh
May 31, 2015I am having issues where the PowerPivot Field List does not refresh once I add a new table/field then select Refresh All under Data. I have to refresh every single PowerPivot Field List so they are all refreshed. ("PowerPivot data was modified" message). This doesn't happen at first but once the model is built on it tends to happen.I'm on Excel 2010 PowerPivot 2012 SP2 32bit. I have Windows 7 64bit and I'm wondering if the bitness inconsistency is an issue.

Jan 19, 2015In our contract management system, each contract has over 100 reference fields attached to it. These are all stored in single table with contract ID, reference GUID and value as the columns.
So you will have multiple rows for each contract....one for each of the reference fields and then the value attached to that reference.
I want to return the data so there is one row per contract with the reference fields as columns and the reference field values as the column data.
Can this be done using PIVOT as I have tried but not had any success?

I've can use recursion to allocate a level to each name /cmid/pcmid combination
I could use multiple self joins

Power Pivot :: Date Dimension - Create A List Of Months
Jul 21, 2015I need to create a date dimension where the lowest level is month. I've seen examples which use the list function such as
Source = List.Dates(#date(2000, 1, 1), Duration.Days(DateTime.Date(DateTime.FixedLocalNow())-#date(2000,1,1)), #duration(1,0,0,0)),
The above increments by 1 day which is defined in the 1st argument of the #duration. My question is how can I dynamically change the value of this 1st argument such that its the number of days in the current month hence it will increment to only return the 1st date in the Month e.g
1/1/2000
1/2/2000
1/3/2000
etc..
I prefer to use an elegant approach if possible, the alternative would be return all dates, create a custom column from these dates which returns the month date - delete the dates column - get a distinct list of the month dates.

Jul 31, 2014I have a table which uses multiple joins to create another table but it turns out that the effective_date which is used in the join to match row together does not work all the time since some of the dates for the effective date column are out of sync meaning records that show data as missing even when the other table contains the data. I try the SQL script below but it returning 6 rows instead of 3–

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Change Column Order In Dynamic Pivot?
Sep 17, 2014I am creating dynamic pivot and my column order is as below
[2015-02],[2015-04] [Prior] ,[2014-08],[2014-11]
but i want to display as below:
[Prior],[2014-08],[2014-11],[2015-02],[2015-04]
