I would like to know if the following sql can be used to obtain specific columns from calling a stored procedure with parameters:

CREATE TABLE #tempTable (MyDate SMALLDATETIME, IntValue INT)
GO
/* Run SP and Insert Value in TempTable */
INSERT INTO #tempTable (MyDate, IntValue)

If the above does not work or there is a better way to accomplish this goal, how to change the sql?

I'm working on building a report and asked a developer which table some data comes from in an application. His answer was the name of a 3500 line stored procedure that returns 2 result sets. I could accomplish what I'm trying to do using the second result set, but I'm not sure how to put that into a temporary table so that I could use it.
Here's my plan according to the Kübler-Ross software development lifecycle:
Denial - Ask the developer to make sure this is correct (done)
Despair - Look hopelessly for a solution (where I am now)
Anger - Chastise developer
Bargaining - See if I can get him to at least swap the order that the resultsets are returned
Acceptance - Tell the users that this can't be done at present.

I want to loop through the data from #Base_Resource and do the follwing logic.
1. get the Resourcekey from #Base_Resource and insert into #Resource table
2. Get the SCOPE_IDENTITY(),value and insert into to
#Resource_Trans table's column(StringId,value)
I am able to do this using while loop. Is there any way to avoid the while loop to make this work?

table2 is intially populated (basically this will serve as historical table for view); temptable and table2 will are similar except that table2 has two extra columns which are insertdt and updatedt
process:
1. get data from an existing view and insert in temptable
2. truncate/delete contents of table1
3. insert data in table1 by comparing temptable vs table2 (values that exists in temptable but not in table2 will be inserted)
4. insert data in table2 which are not yet present (comparing ID in t2 and temptable)
5. UPDATE table2 whose field/column VALUE is not equal with temptable. (meaning UNMATCHED VALUE)
* for #5 if a value from table2 (historical table) has changed compared to temptable (new result of view) this must be updated as well as the updateddt field value.

I'm pretty new with temp tables, i have this code that works fine as a normal query . but i want to put it in a stored procedure, so i can use it more then one. What do i need to change in the code for this to work. I also wanted to add to parematers to it. I don't know if it's a local issue but I can't use temp table or table variable in a PP query (so not in a stored procedure).
Environment: W7 enterprise desktop 32 + Office 2012 32 + PowerPivot 2012 32
Simple example:
declare @tTable(col1 int)
insert into @tTable(col1) values (1)
select * from @tTable
Works perfectly in SQL Server Management Studio and the database connection is OK to as I may generate PP table using complex (or simple) queries without difficulty.
But when trying to get this same result in a PP table I get an error, idem when replacing table variable by a temporary table.
Message: OLE DB or ODBC error. .... The current operation was cancelled because another operation the the transaction failed.

Could someone help me get this stored procedure to work? I want to give the stored procedure a long list of departments and have them added to a temp table. This only gets the first dept. in the temp table. I'm confused. Open to other suggestions, but want to use a 1col temp table to hold the depts.
After this is done, an SQL query is run using the temp table.

I have a search page having four fields. Giving any one of the field as input should retrieve search results in Gridview.

Is it possible to insert data into a temp table with data returned from a stored procedure joined with data from another table?

I'm missing something before the JOIN command. The temp table needs to know which fields need be updated.

Hi all,
I've a requirement to store the output of the stored procedure into temp. tables/ table varibles.
I've 4 select statements as my output of the stored procedure. How do I store the results of all the 4 select stmnts into 4 different temp tables.
Simplified SP is as...

"Insert exec cannot be nested"
I suspsect this is because I have a Insert Exec statement inside my stored procedure...

Using a string of IDs passed into a stored procedure as a VARCHAR parameter ('1,2,100,1020,') in an IN without parsing the list to a temp table or table variable. Here's the situation, I've got a stored procedure that is called all the time. It's working with some larger tables (100+ Million rows). The procedure passes in as one of the variables a list of IDs for the large table. This list can have anywhere from 1 to ~100 IDs passed to it.
Currently, we are using a function to parse the list of IDs into a temp table then joining the temp table to get the query:

SET NOCOUNT ON
SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL READ UNCOMMITTED

The problem we're running into is that since this proc gets called so often, we sometimes run into tempDB contention that slows this down. In my testing (unfortunately I don't have a good way of generating a production load) swapping the #table for an @table didn't make any difference which makes sense to me given that they are both allocated in the tempDB. One approach that I tried was that since the SELECT query is pretty simple, I moved it to dynamic SQL:

@IdList varchar(max)

SET NOCOUNT ON
SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL READ UNCOMMITTED
[Code] ....
The problem I had there, is that it creates an Ad Hoc plan for the query and only reuses it if the same list of parameters are passed in, so I get a higher CPU cost because it compiles a plan and it also causes the plan cache to bloat since the parameter list is almost always different. Is there an approach that I haven't considered that may get the best of both worlds, avoiding or minimizing tempDB contention but also not having to compile a new plan every time the proc is run?

If a SP doesnt have a temp table, then there is no issue, SP executes perfectly, but if a SP has a temp table, this error occurs.

I have two tables called A and B and C. Where A and C has the same schema
A contains the following columns and values-------------------------------------------PoId Podate Approved
2 2008-07-07 No 4 2007-05-05 No 5 2005-08-06 Yes 6 2006-07-07 Yes
Table B contains the following columns and values-------------------------------------------------TaskId TableName Fromdate Approved_Status

Now i need to create a stored procedure that should accept the values (Yes/No) from the Approved_Status column in Table B and should look for the same values in the Approved column in Table A. If both values match then the corresponding rows in Table A should be archived in table C which has the same schema as that of Table A. That is the matching columns should get deleted from Table A and shoud be inserted into Table C.
Pls provide me with full stored procedure code.

I am trying to create a temp table with a non-clustered index.
Originally I tried to create the index after I created the table.
This seemed to work fine, so I added my stored procedure to our Production environment.
However, when two users called the stored procedure at once I got the following error:
There is already an object named 'IX_tmpTableName' in the database. Could not create constraint. See previous errors.
I then found that SQL Server does generate unique names for the temp table but not all the objects associated with the temp table if they are explicitly named.
This is easy enough to solve for a PRIMAY KEY or UNIQUE constraint because the do not have to be named.
Is there a way to create an non-clustered index on a temp table without naming it?

The stored Proc runs fine from "exec", but when you batch into a Job it gives the error that "PK_ShipTo" already exists! I even put in a drop table on #ShipTo, but the same effect.

I am receiving the following error:
Column name or number of supplied values does not match table definition
I am trying to insert values into a temp table, using values from the table I copied the structure from, like this:

INSERT INTO #tbl_User_Temp EXECUTE UserPersist_GetUserByCriteria @Gender = 'Male', @Culture = 'en-GB'
The SP UserPersist_GetByCriteria does a
"SELECT * FROM tbl_User WHERE gender = @Gender AND culture = @Culture",
so why am I receiving this error when both tables have the same
structure?
The error is being reported as coming from UserPersist_GetByCriteria on the "SELECT * FROM tbl_User" line.

I have created a temporary table that has an identity and default values that it creates and sets but also it needs to get values from a sub query for the final insert into the temp table. I have my create temp table, and my insert into set up but my select is confusing me since some of the values I need to select are determined as they are entered into the temp table.
