I am trying to replace all special characters in a column with one special character.
Example:
Table: dbo.Employee
Column: Name
Name
-------
edwardneuman!"<]
mikemoreno)'>$:
JeffJensen"?>"
I am trying to get the namepart to the left of ANY special character. To achieve this, I am thinking of replacing all the special characters with a single special character so that I can find the first occurrence of that special character and grab left of the special character (SUBSTRING/CHARINDEX). This way I don't need to loop through all the special characters.
I am expecting the following results:
Name
-------
edwardneuman<<<<
mikemoreno<<<<<
JeffJensen<<<<

I have a table that contains file paths as
ServernamefolderAfilenameA
ServernameFolderBFilenameB
and I need a query to return
ServernamefolderA
ServernameFolderB
I tried
SELECT DISTINCT left(Source, charindex('', Source)- 0) AS String
FROM Table
But that removes everything after the first and I need it to return all data before the last

I have the following scenario, The contents of main file are like :
ServerCentral|||||forum|||||||||||||||is||||||the||best
so||||||be|||||on||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||it
And I need the output in the following form:
ServerCentral=forum=is=the=best
so=be=on=it
The logic being that multiple and consecutive occurrences of the special character, here - pipe , should be replaced by a single special character.

Hello,
I am trying to insert some values retrieved from textboxes into an Access DB using ASP.NET. When I try to run this code I get an error reading "Too many characters in character literal". What does this mean? Also, how do I break new lines, does way this look ok?
string connectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnectionString1"].ConnectionString;
string sQuery2 = INSERT INTO Member(FirstName, LastName, StreetAdress, PostalAdress, Telephone, Email),
VALUES ('strFirstName', 'strLastName', 'strStreetAddress', 'strPostalAddress', 'strTelephone', 'strEmail');
OleDbConnection oOleDbConnection = new OleDbConnection(connectionString);
oOleDbConnection.Open();
OleDbCommand command2 = new OleDbCommand(sQuery2, oOleDbConnection);
OleDbDataReader reader2 = command2.ExecuteNonQuery();

I have built a SSIS package that reads in data from a SQL Server 2005 source database into a flat file destination. The Row Delimiter is {CR}{LF}. The Column Delimiter is Tab {t}.
The data being read from the SQL Server database contains both {CR}{LF} and Tab {t} characters in various fields on several rows.
How can I process the input data from the SQL Server to remove these characters before passing it to the destination output file?
Sorry if this is obvious to all, but I am only just starting with SSIS...
Many thanks
Adrian

I am looking for a function or way to return only results which does not include appended characters to order numbers.
For instance, below is a list of order numbers. I only want the order number that is SO-123456
OrderNumbers
SO-123456
SO-123456-01
SO-123456-2
SO-123457
SO-123457-1
SO-123457-02
SO-123458
I would like my query to only show the below results
SO-123456
SO-123457
SO-123458
What functions or query methods could achieve this?
I was hoping for something similar to RTRIM but that is only specific to white space.

I have a table that is riddled with weird characters. So far I have found an escape character for PDF files and a trademark sign. These characters are crashing my SSIS packages. I am able to remove these characters with an update script...
Update TABLE
set LEAD_NOTES__C = Replace(LEAD_NOTES__C, nchar(65533) COLLATE Latin1_General_BIN2, '!');
Update TABLE
set LEAD_NOTES__C = Replace(LEAD_NOTES__C, nchar(1671) COLLATE Latin1_General_BIN2, '!');
This works fine, but my question is...
I would like to write a script that removes all foreign characters with the exception of the normal characters like (@,#,$,%,etc). I need a dynamic process that handles this so I am not losing time sifting through over 20,000 rows of data and changing my update script to remove a specific column. Although this method works, I would prefer a dynamic query. I intend to wrap this in a stored procedure that loops through all columns in a table (as parameter).

Hi,I come from the "dark side" php/mysql and there often problems withcharacter sets (utf-8, latin...) and storing data in datebase.Exists in the world of dot.net and ms-sql-server similiar problems?To precise: I have to store xml-data in database. Maybe its better toencode (like base64) the strings?Perhaps there are some links to read?Thanks.klaus.

I have a problem where I want to write a function to remove recurring characters from a string and replace them with a single same character.
For instance I have the string '12333345566689' and the result should be '12345689'. In Oracle I could do this with "regexp_replace('12333345566689', '(.)1+', '1')", but in T-SQL the only solution I could think of is something like this:
DECLARE @code NVARCHAR(255)
SET @code = '12333345566689';
SET @code = REPLACE(REPLACE(REPLACE(@Code, '1', '~1'), '1~', ''), '~1', '1');
and repeat this for 2 - 9. But I'm sure there is a more elegant version for this in SQL Server 2012.

Example Record 1. Elland **REQUIRES BOOKING IN***
Example Record 2. Theale, Nr Reading, Berkshire
Example Record 3. Stockport
How do I achieve this in a CASE Statement?
The following two case statements return the correct results, but I some how need to combine them into a single Statement?
,LEFT(Address ,CASE WHEN CHARINDEX(',',Address) =0
THEN LEN(Address )
ELSE CHARINDEX(',' ,Address ) -1 END) AS 'Town Test'
,LEFT(Address ,CASE WHEN CHARINDEX('*',Address ) =0
THEN LEN(Address)
ELSE CHARINDEX('*' ,Address ) -1 END) AS 'Town Test2'

I found some duplicate data as I was going thru the logic of a data pump. The entire row is not duplicated however.I would like to delete only the one row.
This is a sample of the data:
DECLARE @SomeData TABLE
(
FirstName varchar(25)
, MiddleName varchar(25)
, LastName varchar(25)
, StreetAddress varchar(25)
, Suite varchar(25)
, City varchar(25)
, [State] varchar(25)
, PostalCode varchar(10)
[code]...
As you can see, Joe Smith has two rows, but only one of the rows is complete. I would like to delete only the row that has a NULL value in the phone and area code for Joe Smith. There are a few thousand rows that are like this. They have duplicates all but the area code and phone number.I am used to using a CTE to remove duplicates, but I am a little lost on this one. The things that I have tried, have not worked exactly as I planned.

The table is holding the path like this "/folder/folder/file"
I am trying to convert that path to "folderfolderfile"
In my Select statement I have
SELECT ProdID, REPLACE (PATH, /, ) FROM dbo.blahblah
The problem is that I can't figure out to make SQL understand that "/" is the character I want to replace.
