TSQL UNION, But Get The Differance In Dollar Amount In The Result

May 26, 2006

GridView_1
Category Name SubCategory Name Amount
Construction Construction 2,877.00
Design Design 0.00
Soft Cost Inspection 0.00

GridView_2
Category Name SubCategory Name Amount
Construction Construction 2,800.00
Construction Contingency 300.00
Design Design 500.00
Soft Cost Inspection 980.00
Soft Cost Survey 145.00
Soft Cost Testing 720.00
Soft Cost Management 1000.00
Soft Cost Other Costs 10,000.00

QUESTION:
How could I UNION the two result sets together and where the Category Name and SubCategory Name are equal for GridView1 and GridView2, show the difference in the Amount column.

This is the result I am looking for.

Category Name SubCategory Name DIFFERANCE
Construction Construction 77.00 = (GridView1 - GridView2)
Construction Contingency 300.00
Design Design 500.00
Soft Cost Inspection 980.00
Soft Cost Survey 145.00
Soft Cost Testing 720.00
Soft Cost Management 1000.00
Soft Cost Other Costs 10,000.00

I am trying to do it on the back end. Though, if you have a clever way to produce a resulting gridview in C# with the results I need, I am all game!
This is what I have so far: (TSQL code)

SELECT

tblCategories.txtCategoryName,

tblSubCategories.txtSubCategoryName,

tblEstimatesLineItems.curEscAmount

FROM

tblEstimatesLineItems, tblCategories, tblSubCategories

WHERE

tblEstimatesLineItems.lngzEstimateId = 24 AND --@lngzEstimateId_Compare1

tblEstimatesLineItems.lngzCategoryId = tblCategories.idsCategoryId AND

tblEstimatesLineitems.lngzSubCategoryId = tblSubCategories.idsSubCategoryId

union all

SELECT

tblCategories.txtCategoryName,

tblSubCategories.txtSubCategoryName,

tblEstimatesLineItems.curEscAmount

FROM

tblEstimatesLineItems, tblCategories, tblSubCategories

WHERE

tblEstimatesLineItems.lngzEstimateId = 25 AND --@lngzEstimateId_Compare1

tblEstimatesLineItems.lngzCategoryId = tblCategories.idsCategoryId AND

tblEstimatesLineitems.lngzSubCategoryId = tblSubCategories.idsSubCategoryId

Dollar Amount - Error Converting Data Type Varchar To Numeric

Aug 6, 2014

I am trying to add a field (bank_chk_amt] from a table in to my query to bring in a dollar amount....I originally had this below

SELECT dbo.CBPAYMENT.REFERENCE_NO, 'CCMCCHBREF' AS Literal, RTrim([description]) + ', ' + [bank_chk_amt] + ', ' + convert(char(10),[check_date],101) + ', ' + 'Refund check sent to ' + [payee_name] AS [Free Text]
FROM dbo.CBPAYMENT;

but I would get "Error converting data type varchar to numeric".So my co-worker modified it and added (str([bank_chk_amt]) to my query which worked, but I noticed it dropped of the cents. So instead of 80.35 it would show 80 And I noticed it rounded 100.50 to 101...How can I bring in the full dollar amount and without adding?

UNION ALL, The Use Of GO In Stored Proc. And The Result Is?

Aug 29, 2006

I hope I can express what I need to know.Here it goes. I am planning on writing a single stored procedure to include two select statements and followed by a third like so:Select * etcUNION ALLSelect * etcGOSelect something elseMy question is this: does this return one record set (returning all records from the three Select statements) or two, the first being the result from the UNION and the second from the select following the GO. I will need to access the data returned from the resultant UNION and from the select after the Go, so I wonder if I'll be dealing with a single dataset or two. I hope this made sense.

Create Union Query Result

Jun 20, 2008

Hi,I was wondering if someone can help me. I have 4 tables in an SQL Server 2005 database, for purposes sake called 'table1', 'table2', 'table3' and 'table4'. They all have the same data structure between them. The columns inside them have the exact same design. For purposes sake called 'column1', 'column2', 'column3' and 'column4'. Alot of these tables have duplicate records scattered between them, so basically I want to create 'table5' with the same column names but only unique records. Can someone specify the syntax I need for this. I'm pretty sure it's a union query I need so am scouring as I type this also. Many Thanks Robert

How Is The Metadata Of The Result Of A UNION Determined?

May 23, 2006

Hi,

A colleague and I have just found a slightly strange situation that we don't understand.

We had (effectively) the following query:

select cast(1 as decimal(38,10))
union all
select cast(1 as decimal(38,4))

And the result contained 2 rows, each with a a scale of 4. This surprised us, we expected that the metadata of the result would be determined by the topmost query.

So we reversed them and tried this:

select cast(1 as decimal(38,4))
union all
select cast(1 as decimal(38,10))

and got exactly the same result. 2 rows with a scale of 4.

We can't understand why the scale always gets determined to be 4 regardless of the order of the queries.

Any explanation would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Jamie

How To Rank An Union Of Two Result Sets?

If there is only one result set, I could get rank info by putting DENSE_RANK expression inside of my select. My case is that I have two data source. After union of them, I need rank the result set and save result set plus rank info into the destination. I tried to use Derived Column component by using expression DENSE_RANK() over ( order by columnName ). But it does not like it.

Does anyone know how to achieve this?

Storing The Result In A Variable Resulting From A Dynamic TSQL Query

Aug 30, 2007

Hello all:

Here is a sample query:

DECLARE @KEYID NVARCHAR (50) ; SET @KEYID = '1074958'

DECLARE @ENTITY NVARCHAR (100); SET @ENTITY = 'HouseDimension'

DECLARE @KeyCol NVARCHAR(50);

SET @KeyCol = (SELECT LEFT(@ENTITY, (SELECT CHARINDEX( 'DIM', @ENTITY) -1)) )+ 'Key'

DECLARE @KeyValue NVARCHAR (1000)

SET @KeyValue = 'SELECT '+ @KeyCol + ' FROM HouseManagementFact WHERE HouseKey = ' + @KEYID +

' GROUP BY ' + @KeyCol + ' HAVING SUM(TotalClaimCount) > 0 OR SUM(HouseCount) > 0 '

The value resulting from Executing @KeyValue is an integer.

I want to store this value in a new variable say @VAR2

When I do this

DECLARE @VAR2 INT
SET @VAR2 = execute sp_executesql @KeyValue

its giving me an error.

can somebody let me know the correct form of storing the value resulting from @KeyValue in some variable ?

How To Separate Period Amount From YTD Amount

Mar 18, 2008

I'm creating a temporary table in a Sql 2005 stored procedure that contains the transaction amount entered in a period <= the period the user enters.
I can return that amount in my result set. But I also need to separate out by account the amounts just in the period = the period the user enters. There can be many entries or no entries in any period. I populate the temporary table this way:

SELECT
t.gl7accountsid,
a.accountnumber,
a.description,
a.category,
t.POSTDATE,
t.poststatus,
t.TRANSACTIONTYPE,
t.AMOUNT,
case
when t.transactiontype=2 then amount * (-1)
else amount
end as transamount,
t.ENCUMBRANCESTATUS,
t.gl7fiscalperiodsid

FROM
UrsinusCollege.dbo.gl7accounts a

join
ursinuscollege.dbo.gl7transactions t on
a.gl7accountsid=t.gl7accountsid

where
(t.gl7fiscalperiodsid >= 97
And
t.gl7fiscalperiodsid<=@FiscalPeriod_identifier)
And poststatus in (2,3)
and left(a.accountnumber,5) between '2-110' and '2-999'
And right(a.accountnumber,4) > 7149
And not(right(a.accountnumber,4)) in ('7171','7897')

order by a.accountnumber

Later I create a temporary table that contains budget information. I join these 2 temporary tables to produce my result set. But I don't know how to get the information for just one period. For example, if the user enters 99 as the FiscalPeriod_identifier, I need a separate field that contains only those amounts(if any) that were entered for each account in Period 99.

Can anyone help? It may be that I am not seeing the forest for the trees, but I can't figure it out.

Thanks very much.

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Using Union ALL Or Union Kills Performance On Stored Proc

Jun 12, 2014

SQL Server 2008 r2...

I have a query which does 3 selects and Union ALLs each to get a final result set. The performance is unacceptable - takes around a minute to run. If I remove the Union All so that the result sets are returned individually it returns all 3 from the query in around 6 seconds (acceptable performance).

Any way to join the result sets together without using Union All.

Each result set has exactly the same structure returned...

Query below [for reference]...

How To: Set Up && Interpret A Model To Predict Even Dollar Transactions

Feb 12, 2007

Generally, what would be a good start to model and make predictions based on the following.

Even Dollar Transactions €“ Including transactions that end in $0 or $50 with a Total Transaction Amount between $400 and $5000.

I have a table called Transaction with a BillingAmount column.

I've gone through the SQL Server 2005 Data Mining Tutorial (which uses a discrete prediction BikeBuyer yes or no) and read a lot of Data Mining with SQL Server 2005. Neither of these give good, complete, methodical examples of selecting inputs and targets and making predictions; especially for continuous columns.

I think I'm generally struggling with the concepts of selecting (continuous?) predictable attributes and calculating predictions based on the results. Are there any examples of a scenario similar to the above that I can reference? or just some advise.

Case Statement - Count Orders That Fall Into Specific Dollar Buckets

Aug 2, 2013

I have a table of orders. I was asked to count the orders that fall into specific dollar buckets. Normally I would use a CASE statement for this, but in this case, there are over 100 different buckets!

For example, I need to count the orders in $5 increments up to $400. The CASE statement would look like this:

Code:
CASE
WHEN sum(revenue) BETWEEN 0.01 AND 5.00 THEN [0.01 to 5.00]
WHEN sum(revenue) BETWEEN 5.01 AND 10.00 THEN [5.01 to 10.00]
...
WHEN sum(revenue) BETWEEN 395.01 AND 400.00 THEN [395.01 to 400.00]

Is there an easier way to do this, maybe with a loop?

SQL 2012 :: Log File Data Transfer Amount (MB) Versus Data File Transfer Amount (MB)

Mar 19, 2014

In the full recovery model, if i run a transaction that inserts 10MB of data into a table, then 10 MB of data is moved in the data file. Does this mean then that the log file will grow by exactly 10MB as well?

I understand that all transactions are logged to the log file to enable rollback and point in time recovery, but what is actually physically stored in the log file for this transactions record? Is it the text of the command from the transaction or the actual physical data from that transaction?

I ask because say if I have two drives, one with 5MB/s write speed for the log file and one with 10MB/s write speed for the data file, if I start trying to insert 10 MB of data per second into the table, am I going to be limited to 5MB/s by the log file drive, or is SQL server not going to try and log all 10 MB each second to the log file?
