Managed Code In SQL Server 2005 And Stored Procedure Name Qualification

Mar 11, 2008

All --
Please help.
I am using managed code in SQL Server 2005 and have a question about stored procedure name qualification.
With a VS.NET 2005 Pro Database project, when I use >Build, >DeploySolution, it works great but my stored procedures are named with qualification using my domainusername.ProcName convention, something like this...
XYZ_TECHKamoskiM.GetData
 ...when I want them to be named with the dbo.ProcName convention, something like this...
dbo.GetData
...and I cannot see where this can be changed.
Do you happen to know?
Please advise.
(BTW, I have tried going to this setting >Project, >Properties, >Database, >AssemblyOwner, and putting in the value "dbo" but that does not do what I want.)
(BTW, as a workaround, I have simply scripted the procedures, so that I can drop them and then add them back with the right names-- but, that is a bit tedious and wasted effort, IMHO.)
Thank you.

Stored Procedure Database Qualification

Nov 3, 2000

We are trying to develop some standards for SQL stored procedures and I am wandering what is the preferrable method to reference a table within a stored procedure for use within a Client Server / Web OLTP.
One:
SELECT Customer_Id, Customer_Name FROM CUSTOMER

Or TWO:
SELECT Customer_Id, Customer_Name FROM [DATABASENAME].[dbo].[CUSTOMER]

Most of my background is in working with data warehousing which is constantly loading between a staging and main DB, so I am in the habit of using TWO, but is this the best method for an OLTP and why.

Thanks

Copying Table Data From SQL Server 2005 To SQL Server 2000 - Very Slow When Using OLEDB Source And Destination Sources?

May 8, 2006

An SSIS package to transfer data from a DB instance on SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2000 is extremely slow. The package uses an OLEDB Source to OLEDB Destination for data transfer which is basically one table from sql server 2005 to sql server 2000. The job takes 5 minutes to transfer about 400 rows at night when there is very little activity on the server. During the day the job almost always times out.

On SQL Server 200 instances the job ran in minutes in the old 2000 package.

Is there an alternative to this. Tranfer Objects task does not work as there is apparently a defect according to Microsoft. Please let me know if there is any other option other than using a Execute 2000 package task or using an ActiveX Script to read records from one source and to insert them into the destination source, which I am not certain how long it might take and how viable will that be?

Any inputs will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

MShah

Sql Server 2000 Table Maintenance

Jul 23, 2005

sql server 2000I am currently maintaining a table that contains 30 Million+ records,30 columns, and 11 indexes and will double within the next six mouths.The application that accesses this table, mainly for read onlypurposes, runs without any problems. We have begun using Crystalreports and are now having problems. When we create reports thataccesses the large table our server has significant performance dip.The application begins to time out and the reports take a very longtime, even with simple selects on indexed field.I have began looking into partitioning the large table on its key fieldand creating a partition view. But from what I have read this willonly help if we key on the partitioned field. And all other searcheswill actually take a little longer.Archiving old data is not an option. All the data is being usedAny suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.Rick

How Do I Retrieve Table Properties In MS SQL Server 2000

Nov 29, 2004

I have looked on google and haven't found a query (as of yet) to perform this function.

Essentially I am using VB.NET with Excel and have a mapping between a worksheet and a table in my database. I wrote an import function to pull the data out of excel and put it into SQL Server but I want to try catching errors before i do that.

What is the SQL query to get column sizes from a table. Meaning in a table I have column1 that is allowed a size of int(5). How do i retrieve that information from a query opposed to just looking at it in SQL Server EM??

any help would be appreciated

Altering SQL Server 2000 Table Design

Jul 20, 2005

I'm trying to do a simple alteration to the table design of one of ourSQL 2k tables, simply changing an identity row so that its not 'notfor replication', and its taking absolutely ages to do so, and stopsthe sql server from working.Whilst it's attempting the update, no one can access the database, thesqlservr.exe memory usage shoots up and enterprise manager reports anot responding status. Eventually after about 10 minutes, it bombs outreporting,Unable to modify tableCould not allocate space for object 'Tmp_TableName' in database'DBNAME' because the 'PRIMARY' filegroup is full.The table i'm attempting to change has only about 4000 records sothere's not a huge amount of data.Any ideas what's causing this and how i can get around it?A similar thing happens when i attempt to change the length of avarchar too.Thanks in advance for any suggestionsDan Williams.

SQL Server 2000 - Table Transaction Date

Aug 9, 2007

(I may be in the wrong forum.)
How do I obtain/find the properties of a table using SQL Query Analyer (SQL Server 2000)? Specifically, I would like to run a query to find the most recent date of any transaction on a table. I have a script that I use for SQL Server 2005 but it doesn't work in 2000. I don't know 2000 but I'm guessing that the syntax is different?

Here's the 2005 SQL Server script (stolen from 2005 Books Online BTW):

CREATE TABLE ddl_log (PostTime datetime, DB_User nvarchar(100), Event nvarchar(100), TSQL nvarchar(2000));

GO

CREATE TRIGGER ddl_log

ON DATABASE

FOR DDL_DATABASE_LEVEL_EVENTS

AS

DECLARE @data XML

SET @data = EVENTDATA()

INSERT ddl_log

(PostTime, DB_User, Event, TSQL)

VALUES

(GETDATE(),

CONVERT(nvarchar(100), CURRENT_USER),

@data.value('(/EVENT_INSTANCE/EventType)[1]', 'nvarchar(100)'),

@data.value('(/EVENT_INSTANCE/TSQLCommand)[1]', 'nvarchar(2000)') ) ;

GO

Here's the error:

Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Procedure ddl_log, Line 2

Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'DATABASE'.

Remember, I want to do the same thing in SQL Server 2000.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

[SQL SERVER 2000] Generic Table Exporter

Jun 28, 2007

Hello every body.
First of all sorry for my bad english but I'm french ;-)

My internship consits into making a generic table exporter (with a table list). Export into csv files.

I have tried 2 solutions :
1 - Create a DTS with a Dynamic Properties Task. The problem is I can easily change the destination file but when I change the table source I don't know how to remap the transformations between source and destination (do you see what I mean ?). Any idea ?

2 - Use the bcp command. Very simple but how to do when tables contains the separator caracter ? for example : If a table line is "toto" | "I am , very happy" --> the csv file will look like this : toto, I am , very happy --> problem to get back the data ( to much comma ).
Does someone has a solution ?

Last point is how to export the table structure ? For the moment, using the table structure, I generate an sql query which creates a table (I write this query in a file). Isn't there any "cleaner" solution ?

Thanks in advance and have a nice day all

Insert Small Time Into SQL Server 2000 Table

Nov 14, 2003

Im having a lot of trouble inserting a small time value into a table cell. I gave the cell column the data type 'DateTime', i found i couldnt manually insert a time only value such as '12:30 PM' into a column with 'SmallDateTime'. Something about a "SmallDateTime Overflow Error". However if i enter a similar time value into a table column with the data type 'DateTime' it will happily accept it and leave it as entered.

The real problem seems to be when i try to send a time value to that column with my ASP.NET application. Because it inserts the time value and todays date. So that if i send:

12:30 PM

It will be stored as:

15/11/2003 12:30:00 PM

I only want to store the short time, not the date especially not the date that row was created on because thats useless for the purposes of what my application is trying to achieve and just creates problems down the track when selecting rows.

How can i correct this?
