Table Function To Retrieve File Properties

Mar 25, 2008

Here's a table function that returns a table variable containing various file properties (creation date, size, etc.). The one limitation to remember is that it won't work with files on mapped drives; you have to use the full \<Server><Share><Folder1..Folder n><Filename> syntax. Still, it's a pretty useful thing to have around. :)

How Do I Retrieve Table Properties In MS SQL Server 2000

Nov 29, 2004

I have looked on google and haven't found a query (as of yet) to perform this function.

Essentially I am using VB.NET with Excel and have a mapping between a worksheet and a table in my database. I wrote an import function to pull the data out of excel and put it into SQL Server but I want to try catching errors before i do that.

What is the SQL query to get column sizes from a table. Meaning in a table I have column1 that is allowed a size of int(5). How do i retrieve that information from a query opposed to just looking at it in SQL Server EM??

any help would be appreciated
thanks

(JDBC) Can You Retrieve A Resultset From A Table-value Function?

Jan 31, 2008

I suppose that this could also be called: Can you retrieve a parameterized view with JDBC? Either accomplishes the same basic task.

I have looked in the documentation, and there really isn't much that talks about JDBC and functions - just stored procedures - which do not returned a CURSOR type according to Microsoft's documentation.

So far, I can retrieve scaler type data in both procedures and functions, and retrieve data sets through executeQuery with a provided sql query. How to return a resultset in Java using procedure or function has still eluded me. (<sarcasm intended> And I thought Java could do just about anything. Who would've thought...)

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Resources, books, etc. Google hasn't offered much help with SQL Server and JDBC.

Thanks,

Ken

Can't See Function For Code Added In Report Properties

Sep 12, 2007

I put a function in the code section of Report Properties. I went to add an expression and can't find the function. I type =code. and did not see the function I created in the list.

Here's my code below:

Code Snippet
Public Function ConvertToStartDate(ByVal StartDate As String) As DateTime
Select Case StartDate
Case "Today"
Return DateTime.Today
Case "Yesterday"
Return DateTime.Today.AddDays(-1)
Case "30DaysOut"
Return DateTime.Today.AddDays(+30)
Case "2DaysPrior"
Return DateTime.Today.AddDays(-2)
' Additional cases
Case Else
Throw New ArgumentException("Unknown argument, " & StartDate, "StartDate")
End Select
End Function

I should be able to put in expression =code.ConvertToStartDate.StartDate("Today"), but that does not work. I get a red squiggly line under StartDate.

Thanks for your help,

Iris

Integration Services :: Pulling File Based On File Properties

May 6, 2015

I have a task for which I have to load csv file from a shared directory into sql table. Right now I'm stuck with a road blocker, The issue is the shared drive contains all the history files as well and I have to pick only the latest file. But I cannot identify latest file based on the file name because it doesn't contain any date in the file name. However by seeing file properties I can pull latest file.

Sample file name: XXX_XXX_XXX_XXX_XXX-5814201.csv

Is there any way we can automate this in SSIS with file properties and picking the latest one?

Select Max(xxx) Function: How Do I Retrieve The Value??

Jun 9, 2006

I have  a sql query where i want to find the highest number in a column.  I believe i am querying for the data properly, but i think my problem is that i don't know how to retrieve that information in code.  The error message i get is this:"Conversion from type 'DBNull' to type 'Integer' is not valid"Here is my code:------------------------------------------------------------- queryString = "SELECT MAX(SortOrder) as HighestNumber " & _                            "FROM uQI_Questions WHERE (SurveyID = @SurveyID)"........ more code in between ....... ' Make sure there is 1 and only 1 record returned.            If ds.Tables(0).Rows.Count = 1 Then                ' retrieve the number and add 1 to it.                NextNumber = ds.Tables(0).Rows(0)("HighestNumber")                NextNumber += 1            Else                ' Else it must be the FIRST record so return '1'.                NextNumber = 1            End If-------------------------------------------------------------The line that generates the error is "NextNumber = ds.Tables(0).Rows(0)("HighestNumber")".Any suggestions?

There is a file upload page which will upload images to a directory.  I need to insert into the database retrieve the id just added then upload the image renaming it in the format locID(QueryString)_ImageID(retrieved from database).jpg
The page has a file upload control and a button.

Unable To Edit Pre-defined Flat File Connection Manager Properties In The Flat File Destination Editor

Aug 24, 2007

Hi,

I am testing SSIS and have created a Flat File Destination. I defined the Flat File Connection as New for the first time and it worked fine. Now, I would like to go back and modify the Flat File Connection in the Flat File Destination Editor, but it allows only to create a New connection rather allowing me to edit the existing one. For testing, I can go back and create a new connection, but if my connection had 50-100 columns then it would be an issue to re-create it from scratch.

Did someone else faced this issue?

Thanks,
AQ

How To Retrieve The Char(1) Column From SQL Server With Dbbind() Function In Windows C Programming?

if( !new_job )
return( 0 );
memcpy( ( char * )new_job, ( char * )&disp_job, sizeof( DISPATCH_NEWJOB ) );

}
}
else
{
sprintf( str, "Results Failed, result_code = %d", result_code );
log_str( str );
break;
}
==========================================================

where the job_type columIn is of the char(1) type, NTBSTRINGBIND is the vartype argument in the dbbind() function.

However, what I have gotten is nothing more than a null string from the job_type column. I have alternatively changed the vartype argument to STRINGBIND, CHARBIND and even INTBIND, but the results are the same.

Who can tell me the tricks to retrieve a char(1) column from SQL server?

SQL Server BCP Sensitive To OS File Properties?

Jul 28, 2004

This problem concerns files FTP'd (using True64) from an AIX app, to an WIN server

These files can't be loaded into the SQL Server DB using BCP (String data, right truncation) nor into an ACCESS DB ("Overflow"), (but can be loaded into Excel).

If the file is opened and saved in a Windows/DOS environment it loads fine, or contents copied to an empty win/dos file.

If the same file is sent from to the Win server using DOS FTP then it loads fine.

It seems to be that these DBMS's don't like something about the operating system level file properties (hdr or EOF?).

Can any one help?

Under Registered server name I've tried:

When I browse the server for the database instance list, I receive "network path was not found".

Adding Static Column Of Data From Properties File To DB Import

Sep 4, 2007

Hey all-

I put togehter a package that opens a flat file, parses the data based on the semi-colon delimeter, and imports the rows into a database table. Thats the fun easy part.

What I cant figure out is how to add a variable that will hold a constant ID value that will be persisted with the same value to all rows inserted to the DB. Making the problem harder, I would like that this value be defined in a properties file or database table of some sort so that I can do a lookup based on the file name / location to find out what value should be used.

Any suggestions? I hope my explanation makes at least some sense - but basically I want to do a look up in a configuration of some sort, pull out a single value, and add it to a data import.

let the fun begin!!

Moving Text File Properties For Sql2k Dts To Sql25k Ssis Packages???

Jun 2, 2006

Hi everyone,

We€™ve got almost 250 old dts packages which simply loading data into Sql tables from plain files or at the reverse point. Most of them are defined with fixed fields and its fixed positions one after one. We don€™t want to migrate them using Import wizard, on the contrary we€™re producing them from the beggining taking advantatge of SSIS architecture to the full.
And now, we€™re trying to imagine how to migrate automatically that valuable info from Sql Server 2000 to Sql Server 2005 without efforts€¦ You know, any program be able to move that detailed info
to SSIS.

So we would avoid to select again all these positions per each file -very tedious and we're lazy

I don€™t see how except, of course, migrate them directly

Let me know if you need further explanations or more clarity on that.

Redefining Columns Isn't Possible With Flat File Connection Manager Editor Properties Already Fixed??

May 29, 2006

Dear fellows,

I know that I think as sql2k programmer-dba yet but I can€™t avoid.

I€™ve got Flat File Connection Manager Editor dragged with a text file as €˜ragged right€™ format and CRLF as header row limiter. When from properties page and Columns option I€™m going to alter just a few colums I am not be able.
It seems that you must erase all of them in order to define one or two. And in the case you€™d have 50????
When I ran sql2k DTS designer did that without problems, alter columns again and again.

As far as I know it€™s a lose of flexibility, or not? Or is there any way for do that without deleting nothing else?

Transact SQL :: Retrieve Currently Created Date From Master Table To Load Into Parent And Child Table

May 12, 2015

In Master tabel i have these date datas

2015-05-10

2015-05-11

2015-05-12

SO when i try to load from  Master table to parent and child table i am using using expresssion like

select B.ID,A.* FROM FLATFILE_INVENTORY AS A JOIN DMS_INVENTORY AS B ON
A.ACDealerID=B.DMSDEALERID AND A.StockNumber=B.STOCKNUMBER AND
A.InventoryDate=B.INVENTORYDATE AND A.VehicleVIN=B.VEHICLEVIN
WHERE convert(date,A.[FtpDate]) = convert(date,GETDATE())  and convert(date,B.Ftpdate) = convert(date,getdate()) ;

If i use this Expression i am getting the current system date data's only  from Master table to parent and child tables.

My Problem is If i do this in my local sserver using the above Expression if i loaded today date and if need to load yesterday date i can change my system date to yesterday date and i can run this Expression.so that yeserday date data alone will get loaded from Master to parent and  child tables.

If i run this expression to remote server  i cannot change the system date in server.

while using this Expression for current date its loads perfectly but when i try to load yesterday data it takes current date date only not the yesterday date data.

What is the Expression on which ever  date i am trying load in  the master table  same date need to loaded in Parent and child table without changing the system Date.

What's The Accepted Way To Retrieve Records In A SQL Table With Null Values Using A Visual Studio 2005 Table Adapter?

Jan 21, 2008

I'm using an ObjectDataSource in Visual Studio to retrieve records from a SQL Server 2005 database.
 I have a very simple dilemma.  In a table I have fields FirstName, Surname, Address1, Address2, Address3 etc. None of these are mandatory fields.
It is quite common for the user not to enter data in Address2, Address3, so the values are <null> in the SQL table.
In Visual Studio 2005 I have an aspx form where users can pass search parameters to the ObjectDataSource and the results are returned according to the passed in parameters.
The WHERE clause in my Table Adapter is:WHERE (Address1 LIKE @Address1 + '%') AND (Address2 LIKE @Address2 + '%') AND   (Address3 LIKE @Address3 + '%') AND (FirstName LIKE @FirstName + '%') AND (Surname LIKE @Surname + '%')
If, for example, I simply want to search WHERE FirstName LIKE ‘R’, this does not return any results if the value of Address3 is <null>
My query is this: Could someone please show me the best way in Visual Studio 2005 to return records even if one of the Address fields is <null>.
For reference, I have tried: Address3 LIKE @Address3 + '%' OR IS NULLThis does work, however itsimply returns every instance where Address3 is <null>  (accounting for about 95% of the records in the database). Thanks in advance Simon

Isthere any way to tweak the tables to tell the system somethinglike "hey, B, whenever you're joined to A, you should seriouslyconsider waiting for A to be filtered down to a manageable levelfirst"? And similarly for C/B.MS SQL 2000, SP3, 6.5 compat mode. These are set in stone untilwe upgrade the accounting software (highly non-trivial).

HI,

I need to open a File through File connection manager and want to assign these file properties to SSIS precreated varibale or Newly created varibale. I want to show file properties in Propertygrid. Properties grid will conatin File Propeties Column and SSIS varibale Combobox column. The combo box will contain New variable field. When user select New Variable field, then a new SSIS varibale window will open and we can able create New variable and that Newly created variable should add to that property comboBox.

For Instance if we create a new varibale Name "Creationdate" by clicking on New Varible in ComboBox, then that CreationDate variable should add to Property ComboBox in PropertyGrid. After adding when we select that variable Name "Creationdate" then that selected file Creation date should assign to SSIS varibale "Creationdate" field.

Any Comments or sample will help me.

The next thing I want to be able to do is to retrieve this uploaded file(s) from the database and attach it in the email when the user click on the Submit button on the web form. How can this be done ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA
