When expoting data from excel to sql server table, using SSIS package, after exporting is done, how would i check source rows are equal to destination rows. If not to throw an error message.
How can we handle transactions in SSIS 1. when some error/something happens during export and the # of rows are not exported fully to destination, how to rollback the transaction in SSIS.

I'm reading values from a named range within an Excel spreadsheet using the Excel ODBC driver. If I ask for all columns within a range, using e.g. select * from 'named range', does the driver ensure that the returned rowset has the same column and row ordering as in the spreadsheet? In other words, if a named range on a spreadsheet is the block of cells:
name age
richard 54
jemima 27
I want to make sure that my returned rowset is not going to be:
age name
jemima 27
richard 54
I know that proper databases do not guarantee the order of returned values (unless you specify it) but since Excel is a fixed view of data I was hoping that a returned rowset of values would retain their spreadsheet ordering.
hi, I am importing data daily to many tables, I want to keep track of the #of rows for each import process. I already have created a trigger as follow: CREATE TRIGGER tr_bcp_log ON dbo.A FOR INSERT AS
declare @name varchar(30), @row_count int
select @name=name , @row_count= @@rowcount from inserted
insert into bcp_tracks (name,row_count) values(@name,@row_count) GO
The problem is that I am getting a row for each inserted row in table A.for instance if I have 500 rows in table A, I will get 500 rows in the log table like this table_name,#of rows A 1 A 1 A 1 etc up to 500 rows for table A
This is not what I want, I want to capture the num of rows for every bcp process , so in the log table I want to see the following : table_name, #of rows A 500 B 600 C 450 A 250 etc
I have a stored procedure which will run automatically. I've got try...catch code in the procedure, but I found a bug with the code where if there are any import errors, it doesn't recognize that that there was an error and it runs through the try code as through there was no problems. (I reported the bug). I added some code using @@rowcount to check if there were rows imported, and if not, it moves the data file to a error folder so I know there was a problem with the import. But this only checks if at least one row was imported, not if all the rows in the datafile have been imported. (i.e. if the first row imported correctly, and the second did not, it still sees it as successful). The problem is some of the data files have only one row to import and some have multiple rows. Is there a way to count the number of rows in the datafile, then count the number of rows imported, to verify they are the same number imported? Thanks, Laura

Please note that the number columns are different in each table. I wanted to dump the data of Source table to Destination table. I meant to say that the rows of 2 columns in Source table to last 2 rows of Destination table. And also my oreder of the columns in Destination table will vary. So i need to a way to dynamically insert the data in bulk. but i will know the column names for sure before inserting.
Is there anyway to bulk insert into these columns.
I have a sample table as below: (All columns do not have to have unique values) Column n is int, the rest are varchar [First row is the column Names]
n | t1 | t2 | t3 | t4 1 | a | b | c | d 3 | e | w | a | t 3 | w | q | u | k 2 | g | w | q | n 2 | a | b | s | a 5 | n | a | w | h
I need to create a query or some how create a way to get the data in the form of the below table:
n | t1 | t2 | t3 | t4 | t11 | t21 | t31 | t41 1 | a | b | c | d | 3 | e | w | a | t | w | q | u | k 2 | g | w | q | n | a | b | s | a 5 | n | a | w | h
What that means is that I have a huge table (~6000 rows) that has the column 'n' above (int type) which can have rows that start with the same number (such as number 3 & 2 above). I need these duplicate rows of numbers to be converted/transformed to columns alongside each other. This would create 1 entry for each type of number but have the 4 columns of t1, t2, t3, t4 'added' on as extra columns in the new table with a different column name ofcourse. So what that would mean is that if there were 3 rows of number n=2 then would have 3x4=12 columns, plus the 'n' column and so forth.
I am not sure on how to start the query for this. What I have thought is maybe using a cursor and going through the table. But not sure how I could do that really. The other is using a Pivot in a SELECT statement. But that would not work since the columns can grow indefinetely depending on how many of the same 'number' row there is!
I am trying to update a SQL table using an excel file which has 2 columns FMStyle and FMHSNum.
FMStyle is my link to the SQL table.
Here is what I have for code....
-------------------------------------------------- Update DataTEST.dbo.zzxstylr SET hs_num = (select FMHSNum FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0', 'Excel 12.0;Database=c: empStyleHSCodesLoad.xls;HDR=YES ', [Sheet1$])) Where FMStyle = zzxstylr.style --------------------------------------------------
Everything seems to be ok except for the "Where FMStyle" is giving me a message Invalid Column name on FMStyle. Do I need to qualify FMStyle and if so how.
I have persons who speaks multiple languages and they are in one table, each row is added if he/she speaks multiple languages. Instead I want to add additional columns and load the data.(what I have shown in the desired output)

Desired output
name language1 language2 language3 language4 language5 language6 ----------------------------------------------------------------- ron english french spanish andy english hindi Kate english
I imported a SQL Table into SQL DataBase, But I can not update this table even with SQL Server management Studio When I change any data on mentioned table above, Red exclamation sign appears left of the record . How can I correct this problem? Thanks.
I have a table, Table1 with 3 columns as follows: colItemKey, colGrouping1, colGrouping2. colItemKey is the primary key. Say colGrouping1 has 4 different types: Grp1A, Grp1B, Grp1C and Grp1D and colGrouping2 has 5 as follows: Grp2A, Grp2B, Grp2C, Grp2D and Grp2E. How do I setup my select so that the result set is as follows:
I currently have data stored in a temporary table and I would like to transpose the data into a better format. I would like for the query to be dynamic since one of the tables currently has over 500 columns.
The attached file provides an example of the table structure along with sample data. Below the first set of data is the desired final format.
I was using the MDX Query Builder to create MDX queries for a SSRS report. I'm not sure what happened, but when I tried to create another dataset against the cube, the "Drop Column Fields Here" and "Drop Row Fields Here" areas were no longer available for me to drop attributes onto.
I have restarted VS, rebooted, you name it, I've tried it (short of re-installing). Has anyone encountered this and how did you "fix" it.
BTW: In order to continue working, I decided to use ProClarity to build the MDX for me and when I tried to paste it into the MDX editor, I get the following error: "The query cannot be prepared: The query must have at least one axis. ..". So, as I've seen from other posts, you can't use "any" MDX in the MDX Query Builder.
i want to convert the rows of one table to be the column of another table in run time......i have two tables one having student id and name and in another table there are student id, marks and subject as english. hindi and maths in rows...i want to make another a third table which contains student id , name , marks as english, hindi, maths as the column....tried a lot but didnt get the right way...do we have to do it through Join or is there some other technique by which we can solve the query........i dont know wheather i am really informative or not..but am sitting online if incase you wanna know something else even..........
I have a string that contains series of parameters with separators.i need to split the parameters and its values as rows and columns.e.g string = "Param1 =3;param2=4,param4=testval;param6=11;..etc" here the paramerter can be anything and in any number not fixed parameters. Currently am using the below function and getting the parameters by each in select statement as mentioned below.
select [dbo].[rvlf_fn_GetParamValueWithIndex]('Param1=3;param2=4,param4=testval;param6=11;','param1=',';') as param1, [dbo].[rvlf_fn_GetParamValueWithIndex]('Param1=3;param2=4,param4=testval;param6=11;','param2=',';') as param2 CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[rvlf_fn_GetParamValueWithIndex] ( @CustomProp varchar(max),
I am developing a DB with others in my group. When I import tables created on other servers to my server, the primary key and other properties do not import with the tables. Can anyone explain why this is happening? Is there a setting I have over looked?

Should this befree data bytes? For a heap table, does SQL add an internal uniqueidentifiercolumn also? or my question is when does SQL adda uniqueidentifier? I am reading Inside SQL 2000 andtrying to understand a few things.A uniqueidentifier of 4 bytes gets added when a clustered indexexists but it is NOT a UNIQUE clustered index. AND onlyif duplicate record is added those two records only geta uniqueidentifier value. But in my example it's a heap table with no indexes. Evenon a heap table with no indexes a ROWID or Uniqueidentifierget added? Based on the INSERT statement above allvalues are unique. So what am I missing to understand why 453 rowsmake one data page to be used whereas 454 rowsmake two data pages to be used?Thank you
I export one table to Excel using Export Wizard. Second time I have used this creator I have checked option "Delete rows in destination table" because table already exists in Excel file.
During execution I get an error:
"Error 0xc002f210: Preparation SQL Task: Executing the query "DELETE FROM 'MyTable'" failed with following error: " and here is my translation from my language: "Deleting data from linked table is not supported by this version of ISAM"
I have also saved this package to a file and here is the full connection string to my Excel file:
Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:Documents and SettingsprzemekPulpitmyfile.xls;Extended Properties="EXCEL 8.0;HDR=YES";
Few days ago I have been using SQL2000 on the same machine and the same export was working properly.
I have a excel sheet with some data and blank columns. I have a ssis package using to import data from excel to sql table. For blank excel columns it is importing as null instead i want to show them as '0'. If data comes in it should update the data.
Hi,I have an Excel file with 400 rows of old values and the correspondingnew values. My table currently has 10 columns out of which 3 columnsuse the old value specified in the excel file. I need to update thoseold values in the columns with the new values from the Excel file. Please guide me as to how to proceed with this. Thanks in advance!
Question pls. I have an MS SQL local package where it exports data from SQL table to Excel file. My question is, how can erase all the records in my excel file before i export the new data from SQL table?
What i want is to delete the rows in the destination file before inserting new records.
i have few fields that contain foreign characters with diacritic marks which are not getting imported correctly.
below is the import format:
- File type: ASCII - Row delimiter: carriage return and line feed {CR/LF} - Column delimiter: Tab - Text qualifier: None
Please advice.
Here is the errors i'm getting:

I need to pivot this so I can get one row per franchiseID and multiple columns for [Franchisee Name Entity] and [Franchise Name Individual]. Each [Franchisee Name Entity] and [Franchise Name Individual] has associated percentage of ownership.
This has to be dynamic, because each FranchiseID can have anywhere from 1 to 12 respective owners and those can be any combination of of Entity and Individual. Please, see the attached example for Franchise Number 129 (that one would have 6 additional columns because there are 3 Individual owners with 1 respective Percentage of ownership).
The question is how do I PIVOT and preserve the percentage of ownership?
I have a dataset with 2 columns, a rownumber and a servername - eg
rownumber servername
1 server1
2 server2
....
15 server15
I want to display the servernames in a report so that you get 3 columns - eg
server1 | server2 | server3
server4 | server5 | server6
...
server13 | server14 | server15
I have tried using multiple tables and lists and filtering the data on each one but this then makes formating very hard - i either end up with a huge gap between columns or the columns overlap
I have also tried using a matrix control but cant find a way to do this.
Does anybody know an easy way to do this? The data comes from sql 2005 so i can use a pivot clause on the dataset if somebody knows a way to do it this way. The reporting service is also RS2005
