Tablediff Utility Without 'delete' Command.

Apr 23, 2008

I am presently using 'tablediff' utility of SQLServer 2005 to compare tables located on two different servers. My real intension is to backup data from Serv1 to Serv2, except that I wish to update the tables on server2 with only newly inserted rows and updated rows and NOT deleted rows.

In short, I want the final .sql file generated by the tablediff utility to contain only 'Insert' and 'Update' statements and NOT 'Delete' statements.

I hope someone can help me in this regard.

Thank you,
Little_Birdie.

Tablediff Utility Bug?!?

Aug 14, 2006

In my transactional push replication I had differences, which were reported correctly by the utility tbalediff.

I created with the tablediff utility all necessary statements to correct them.

Afterwards I ran tablediff again to check if everything is ok.

It wasn't, I got a lot of mismatches.

The reason for those mismatches are columns from type "float". It looks like that float values are not generated correctly in insert statements. We had differences in the values and from that point on we have mismatches.

Does anyone has an idea how to get rid of those reported mismatches?!?!

I will report this also as a bug.

Regards

Norbert

Tablediff Utility For SQL Server 2000?

Dec 18, 2006

Does anyone know if there is a utility available in SQL Server 2000 equivalent to the Tablediff utility in 2005? While reinitializing a Subscriber, I got the error "The row was not found at the Subscriber when applying the replicated command." I would like to identify the location of the data to fix at the Subscriber. In the interim, I changed the Distribution agent from the default to "Continue replication on data consistency errors," which successfully replicated changes, except for the errors. Is the stored procedure sp_publication_validation the only option for SQL Server 2000? This ran successfully after the replicated changes were processed.

DTSRUN Command Utility Problem

Hi everyone,

I have created a DTS package in SQL Server 2000 which is running good when I execute it through SQL Enterprise manager.

But when I try to run the package through command line DTSRUN utility on server, I am getting the following error message displayed.

"DTSRun: Loading...

DTSRun: Executing...

DTSRun OnStart: DTSStep_DTSDataPumpTask_1

DTSRun OnError: DTSStep_DTSDataPumpTask_1, Error = -2147467259 (80004005)

Error string: Error opening datafile: There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request.
Error source: Microsoft Data Transformation Services Flat File Rowset Provider

The same package is getting executed properly when I run it from my client through DTSRUN from the command prompt.

Any idea if it is because of security issues.

thanx in advance.

So I was wondering if this will work. I believe that I will have to copy the DTExec.exe file to the PC where my bat file calls to the dtsx in the other PC. I am right?
My run.bat will have this line: \PCshared_folderpackage.dtsx.
Will this work?

Running A SQL File From OSQL Command Line Utility

Jul 20, 2005

Hi,I have dumped a very large database from mysql (using mysqldump program)as a raw sql file. The reason was, convert this database to a MSSQLdatabase. Since mysqldump creates the file as raw sql file with thedatabase-table structures and the data in it, I thought using OSQL commandline utilities should work to out this whole database in MSSQL server.I have run this command from command line:osql -u sa -i mysqldump.sqlIt is going since yesterday. It has been almost 36 hours that it'sstarted. And in the mssql server, I see no database created yet. On thescreen of the command line, I see bunch of numbers are going in order. Iassume they are row numbers of the tables processed. But, if it is doing it,then where is it saving all this data ? I have checked the tempdb, pub db,other dbs, and I see no tables related to the database I am inserting. Willit populate it at the and of the job ? Or, am I doing something wrong here?Regards.Murtix.

Using For Each Loop Container To Pass Parameters To Command Utility

Sep 1, 2006

Hello

I want to use a for each loop container to go through all files listed in a particular folder.
Each of those file names must be passed as a parameter to the relog.exe command utility

example:

Folder C: emp
Files in C: emp: log1.csv, log2.blg, log3.txt

The following lines must be executed:

c:
elog.exe c: emplog1.csv -f SQL -o "SQL:PerfCounters!PerfCounters"
c:
elog.exe c: emplog2.blg -f SQL -o "SQL:PerfCounters!PerfCounters"
c:
elog.exe c: emplog3.txt -f SQL -o "SQL:PerfCounters!PerfCounters"

The relog utility converts the performance counter logs to sql format and pumps it in the database (DSN:PerfCounters)

The idea is that someone drops multiple counter logs in c: emp and you start a SSIS package to pump the data from all the files in the database.

I'm not sure where to start. Do I have to put a Script task inside the For Each loop container en start scripting the commands in Visual Basic.Net or is there a more simpler way to achieve this in SSIS?

Many thanks!

Debugging The SQL Delete Command

Mar 16, 2008

What's the best way to debug the SQL commands with parameters? My Formview performs the INSERT and EDIT commands fine -- and I can see the results in the tables. However, my Delete command crashes -- see the error below.
I assume that the problem is a formatting issue with an input parameter -- i see there are equality tests for the parameters before the delete is allowed --
How Can I look at these parameters to inspect them? All the types on the paranmeters look fine to me!!

Delete Command Failed

Hi

I am using SQL 6.5. I have a master table which is referenced by more than 35 tables. When I try to
delete a record from the table, i am getting this message

Msg 431, Level 16, State 0
Unable to bind foreign key constraint. Too many tables involved in query.

SQL 6.5 maximum 31 foreign key references. I was wondering is there any way to delete those
records. (i don't want to drop the foreign constraints)

SQL 7.0 supports maximum 63 foreign key references.

Returnvalue Not Accepted In Update / Delete Command

Dec 13, 2005

Hi,
I tried to use the RETURN_VALUE of a stored procedure in updata / delete commands with a sql-datasource and a stored procedure.
The thing works fine with the insert command. But it fails with "too many arguments..." in delete / update.
I also tried to handle the updating event like this:
protected void sqldsReportSelect_Updating(object sender, SqlDataSourceCommandEventArgs e) {   SqlParameter sqP = new SqlParameter("RETURN_VALUE", SqlDbType.Int);   sqP.Direction = ParameterDirection.ReturnValue;   e.Command.Parameters.Add(sqP);}
It brings the same error.
Do I make something wrong or is this a bug?

OLEDB Command Usage When Update/delete On Db2

Dec 11, 2007

We have SS2K5 source and DB2 Target. I downloaded and installed MS OLE DB provider for DB2. It is configured correctly. The data insert works fine. But I am having problem with update/delete on DB2 when passing string parameters.

The OLEDB command works fine when I hard code the values:
delete from TableName where Col1='abc' and Col2='xyz'

But when I use parameters the package executes successfully, but the data is not delete on DB2.

Any one having similar experience or solution for this is really appreciated.

Tablediff Bug?

Sep 12, 2006

Hey,

I recognized a strange behaviour when using tablediff. Because I don't want to replicate all columns, I create two views on selected attributes and compare them.

Have two tables:
create table t1 (timestamp timestamp, b int PRIMARY KEY, c varchar(30))create table t2 (b int PRIMARY KEY, c varchar(30))

and two views:
create view vt1 as select b, c from t1 create view vt2 as select b, c from t2

Compare the views with tablediff and get a failure:
... vt1 and vt2 ... have different schemas and cannot be compared.

Now I just find out that it works when table t2 also has a timestamp column.

drop table t2create table t2 (b int PRIMARY KEY, c varchar(30), ts timestamp)

Compare the views again with tablediff and get:
... vt1 and vt2 ... are identical.

What dou you think, do I always need the same datatypes in source- and target-table I want to compare, even if a create a subselection via views?

Cheers,

SQL 2012 :: Tablediff And Nvarchar (max)

Oct 9, 2014

Using MSSQL Server 2012 Standard on a Windows 2008R2 Standard server.

For the tablediff utility MSDN says:

The Transact-SQL script generated to bring the destination table into convergence does not include the following data types: varchar(max), nvarchar(max), timestamp...etc

We have a small replication job running and one of the tables contains a timestamp field. After running tablediff the generated script contains a note:

-- Column(s) AccessTS are not included in this script because they are of type(s) text, ntext, varchar(max), nvarchar(max), varbinary(max), image, timestamp, or xml. Columns of these types cannot be updated by tablediff utility scripts; .....

The updated record is in the script file, but the timestamp field is omitted.

All good so far.

However, another table contains nvarchar(max) fields. The scripts that are generated for these tables do not contain the above message and instead contain these nvarchar(max) fields in both the update and insert into statements!

So why does it say it will ignore these types of fields, but then actually include the nvarchar(max) ones in the generated scripts?

Tablediff,sp_publication_validation,sp_article_validation

Jul 11, 2007

I'm trying to put together an automated system that uses sp_publication_validation & the tablediff utility to automatically sync up our subscribers to the publisher. What I'm noticing is that the sp_publication_validation sys proc gets run on the publisher. It does a rowcount and binary_checksum of each article in a specified publication. When I do a binary_checksum myself I've verified these results. For some reason a column could be a smalldatetime on the publisher and all the subscribers, however, the binary checksum will be different IF RUN from the publisher for that column/row/table. If I run the binary_checksum from the subscriber (instead of accross ODBC using a linked server command) I'm seeing matching checksums.

The result of this is I'm seeing a bunch of records that are actually identical coming through the tablediff command as different. I have a few questions. Has anyone ever run accross this issue before? I believe it has something to do w/ ODBC. I'm willing to work/share a pretty nice SSIS package that I am developing if somebody could assist me in figuring a way around this issue.

Thanks,

Phil

Select * from MYLINKEDSERVER...MYTABLE

Now , can i use tablediff utility with this linked server. If yes, any example ..

I would say also that performance is not very important to me. this would be used at the end of the day to make some sort of replication by generating a sql script with datadiff, and run it on a local sql server database and a web based SQL database. The replication is not an option since i am using a shared web hosting and replication is disabled on it .

TableDiff.exe" -sourceserver "SERVER" -sourcedatabase "SourceDB" -sourcetable "Table1" -destinationserver "SERVER" -destinationdatabase "DestDB" -destinationtable "Table1" -f "C:TableDiffsTable1"

I have seen reports of other users executing tableDiff against 2million row tables.

Is there anyway to buffer tableDiff, so that I do not run out of memory on the server?

Could anything else be causing this error?

Thanks,
Dave
