Transaction Left In Open State On SQLServer 2000 And JDBC
Sep 6, 2007I have a problem where my connection always has an open transaction as viewed by activity monitor.
I am using the latest MS SQL Server 2005 JDBC driver (1.1) and connecting to SQL Server 2000.
This issue arises only when selectMethod=cursor and autoCommit is set to false. This issue does not exist when I connect to SQL Server 2005.
Has anyone else seen this issue?
How can this issue be resolved?

SQL Server 6.0 Help - Service State Indeterminate
Aug 28, 2002I don't know too much about 6.0 so I need your help. I can't get to this database with a 6.5 enterprise manager either. The SQLOLE65.SQL script hasn't been run against the master database.
Well, here's the problem the Service Manager shows the services in a SERVICE STATE INDETERMINATE. No green, yellow red showing. I can't get into the database using enterprise manager because it says it's unavailable. However, on the enterprise manager it shows the database in a green (running state). So I'm uncertain whether to stop and start the database.
Has anyone every ran this SQLOLE65.SQL script so they can manage a 6.0 db thru a 6.5 enterprise manager? If so, please provide step by step instructions or warnings to look out for....

Unable To Set SQL Express Service Status To Running State
Nov 1, 2007Hi! Im just starting to learn how to use an SQL express database. I used it over at my campus and it worked fine and now when I try running it on my machine it gave me this error :
"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connection.(Provider : SQL Network Interfaces, error : 26 - Error locating server/ instance specified.)"
I know that by default SQL express doesnt not support remote connection but when i try to get the service status running, i got another error which is :
"The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion, you need administrator privileges to be able to start/stop this service. (SQLSAC)"
I am already logged on to the computer as an administrator but i still cant get the service to run! Pls help!

May 5, 2014I have a SQL 2012 Enterprise edition HADR cluster with 2 nodes and my event log on the second node (current primary for the AG) is being filled with these messages
The Service Broker endpoint is in disabled or stopped state
I wasn't able to find too much on the issue. I did find this one open Microsoft connect bug report from back in April 2013 [URL] .....

Error While Testing In Multithreaded Mode-
Oct 8, 2007On 2 servers (Windows 2000 and Windows 2003) both with SQL Server 2000 - the Operating System Event Viewer - System Log - shows Event ID 2012 (Warning - Source = Srv;network error occured).
On the Client side - we get the following error:
unable to open table.: ODBC Error: ODBC RC=-1, ODBC SQLState=08S01, DBMS RC=11, DBMS Msg=[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]General network error. Check your network documentation
This seems to only occur when the testing is done in a multithreaded mode.
Any ideas?
Setting Up And Testing An Error Destination
Nov 24, 2006I'm sure this is pretty basic for many folks, but how do I go about setting up and testing a Data Flow element's error output?
The intent is to set up flat file that'll contain the error output from elements on the Data Flow tab of an SSIS package. Later, I'd like to have the error output go to a SQL Server table so my DBAs have access to the errors.
There is no data transformation in this package -- it's very simple, just plain, delimited text to a 2-column SQL Server table.
Here's what I've done so far:
Set up a flat file destination to capture the error output. This flat file destination points to an empty file (C:ErrorDestination.txt) on my local machine.
Grabbed the "red" output from the Data Flow element (named "Source REGIONS"). This element is a flat file source, pointing to a file named Regions.txt. I was pleased to see that the connection manager for the error output was automatically populated with the 3 columns (Flat File Source Error Output Column, Error Code, and Error Column) when I clicked on the "New" connection button in the Flat File Destination Editor.
Changed the "Error Output" for the 2 columns in the flat file source to "Redirect Row" for both the Error and Truncation columns. I understand this instructs the source to send the error-causing rows to the error destination.
I ran the package to make sure nothing has changed how it operates under normal conditions.
But, when I introduce an obvious error into the source file (removing a quote surrounding data in one row) the package blows up on the Data Flow element in the Control Flow tab, the flat file source in the Data Flow tab turns red, but nothing flows to the error destination.
I truly expected the error on the flat file source to flow into the error destination on the data flow tab.
Any ideas? I appreciate any guidance or insight you might be able to give!

I have three publications on a dev server. All are sql 2005 merge replication (push) with replication running to subscribers on the same instance of sql server (note this is just dev testing).
However, I have just marked one for re-initialisation / create new snapshot / don't upload changes but when I kick off the synchronisation it says it has insufficient permission to run the snapshot.
When I do this for the other two there is no problem.
SQLAgent is running (using LocalSystem) so I don't know why my reinitialisation won't work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Error Testing Transformations In SQL7 DTS Package
Mar 8, 2001In SQL 7 DTS I'm creating a Data Driven Query Tasks. When I get to writing the transformations in VB Script and try using the Test button to test the script, I get the following message:

Error opening datafile. The system cannot find the file specified.
The documentation says:
[The transformation is tested] by executing it against a part of the
source data and copying the results to a temporary text file, for
preview purposes.
I can find no place to specify what temporary file is used for the test result and, because it is temporary, have assumed the system creates and
deletes it as needed.
Is this true?
I get this test error for every transformation. even those that work correctly when the DTS package is actually executed.
What can I do to get the transformations to test properly?
Any help or hints will be greatly appreciated.

Error Handler Testing For Microsoft Errors
Jul 12, 2015I need to develop code for a TRY...CATCH block in SQL Server 2008 R2 for the following error, that occurs when I get a timeout from a linked server that connects to a server in another country:
OLE DB provider "ORAOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "MyRemoteServer" returned message "ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred".
Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 77
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "ORAOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "MyRemoteServer".
Most times, it doesn't time out, but occasionally gives me a 7303 error. I can't control when timeouts happen and when they don't. I can't use RAISERROR on error 7303, as it only works on custom errors >= 50000.
My question is, how do I simulate a timeout so that I can verify my error handling code? I need a procedure that waits 10 seconds and tries again 3 times, but how do I generate the error?

Do any one has a step by step instructions for installing the service pack 2 and 3 on Active/Passive cluster. I installed sqlserver 7.0 in one active/ passive cluster and it worked successfully. Now I followed the instructions as given by microsoft by running the cluster wizard. It removed the virtual server. I made all sqlservr services offline.
When I try installing I couldn't able to install as it is saying "Active virtual server is there run clustered wizard in all the nodes". Now I am in the middle of no where.
Please help me asap.

SQLSERVER SERVICE NOT RUNNING ON LOCALHOST! CAN'T START IT!

This isn't just only a problem with the administrative rights. This happens in many different places such as when I try and add a new data source in VB Express 2005 it gives approximately the same error message.
My MSSQLSERVER service is running nicely but my SQLSERVER isn't and on top of that I can't get it to start!

How To Make SqlServer Agent Execute Windows Service
Mar 24, 2004To run a remainder service that shoots a mail once everyday to all users of a subscribed service satisfying a pre-determined criteria, I'm planning to use a Sql Server Agent Job. In the first step of the Job, I'll have a stored procedure that gets all the records matching that criteria & store it in a table.
In the next step, I want a Windows Service (as there need not be any interface & my project requires easy deployment & minimal manual intervention) to fetch the records from the above table & shoot mails to users of the subscribed service. Several thousand mails may have to be sent this way. In order not to strain Sql server & also avoid extended stored procedures due to safety reasons, I'm considering using this windows service.
I want to know
1) how to make the Sql Server Agent execute the Windows service?
2) abt code or resources on how to write a vb.net Windows service that will work through a recordset & send mails.
3) from a perfomance point of view, if this method is feasible? If not, what are the other efficient alternatives.

Account Permission For Installing/running Sqlserver And Service That Accesses It

I am totally confused by what account I should be running my sql server database and my business layer service as.
I take it that when installing sqlserver and my service that I should be logged in as administrator.
Should I be using "Local Service", "Local System" or "Network Service" to run these processes as?
Summary of my business layer service
* Clients connect to this service on a tcp/ip port
* It accesses the file system
* it connects to the database

Jul 12, 2007I have an almost virgin install of SQLExpres running on a WIN2K Pro system.
Have been able to create and connect db to Access 2000 without problem.
Now I wish to extend to remote connections. Using Surface Area Configuration tool, I changed Remote Connections to Local and Remote.
Whenever this setting contains TCP/IP and I try to restart the service I receive the following errors:
System Log:
The SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) service terminated with service-specific error 10013.
Application Log:
Server TCP provider failed to listen on [ 'any' <ipv4> 0]. Tcp port is already in use.
TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x271d, status code 0xa.
TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x271d, status code 0x1.
Could not start the network library because of an internal error in the network library. To determine the cause, review the errors immediately preceding this one in the error log.
SQL Server could not spawn FRunCM thread. Check the SQL Server error log and the Windows event logs for information about possible related problems.
If I change back to Local Connections Only or Local and Remote using named pipes only, the service starts up again without a problem.
After five days of investigating, researching, reinstalling and waiting I have to ask for help.
Any suggestions or leads?

We seem to be being plagued by the error below by our SQL Server agent. This happens almost everytime we restart the server that has been running for a day or two.
Our SQL Server Agent uses a none expiring domain credential. I understand that this problem only happens when the profile being used by the SQL Servr Agent has changed (password change). What puzzles me is that the login is A ok and no changes has been made to it's password.
We always resolve this problem by changing the login used in the SQL Server Agent to local and after that, returning it back to it's original domain login. Unfortunately, we cant always do this everytime something goes wrong.
Can anyone please help us shed a light on this? We're using SQL2k with SP3a. Thanks!

Oct 2, 1999I have a big problem with a SQL 6.5 (no SP) running
in a production environment on NT 3.51 SP 4 since
2,5 years.
Suddenly Friday at 99/10/01 14:17:38.93 we started
having problems and we could'nt connect to the
DB from our client server application written in VB4.
We rebooted the server and we had other errors at
99/10/01 16:15:40.96.
The error code is 605-21-1 and it seems like the main
table (FILMS) of our db (VISPO) has phisical allocation
problems.
here is en extract from the SQLServer error log
of the first problem:

We are thinking about restoring the BackUp of the previous night that should be OK,
but I would like what we can try to do in order to have the
db working properly.
Even if the restore would be fine, maybe we are starting
to have problems on the disk subsystems?
What can we check, something like scandisk in DOS?
I attach here in ZIP format the 2 log files and plese ignore the MAPI errors
that are "normal", we just don't care.
I don't know if it's possible to attach files to a newsgroup or a discussion
group but I will try

Please someone help me fix this. My table is corrupt and I cannot drop it and restore it because I keep getting an error message that says:
Cannot drop table ' ' there is not enough space in syslogs. blah, blah, blah.
Can anyone help me? It woould be much appreciated.

Error 823, Severity 24, State 2 (Again)
Oct 1, 2004I synch 4 databases everyday and on one of them I get the Error 823, Severity 24, State 2 error (Yes I know you have heard this before but I am a new, LOL). I have tried detaching the database and copying it, renaming that database and then copying back to the original name with the same error; therefore, I think the error is somewhere in the database structure. If it is the database structure would it still give the error above or is that simply a hardware error? I have been searching for solution and I am at a loss. Any help would be appreciated.

What I'd like to know is how to get the table name that was affected out of this error message. Do I query sysindexes, sysobjects, use a function or something else?

Mar 31, 2008Hi, i encounter a problem with my sql.
What my system does is that it restore/dump database from some backup.
it will then send email using the xp_sendmail. After that it will send out sms using a command line script.
The timing as per the attachment i put in here. Pls kindly help. production issue.
