When sql 2005 is created a cert is also created in the Data directory of that instance. What is that cert? Is it the Service Master Key? I noticed that I can movecopydelete it while sql server is running so it doesn't appear to be very secure..
Hi, I've installed SQL 2005 and failed to change the default datalocation during installation. Now I want to change it. Can I do thiswithout having to uninstall and reinstall? And furthermore, is there asystem stored procedure I can use to move existing data and log files(master, msdb, AdventureWorks, etc.)? I seem to remember doing justthis with SQL 2000 some time back. Thanks,Eric
how good are certmagic.com to prepare for ccna and mcse exams . i have a long learning ahead to do and will realy like some practice questions to practice myself . anyone have any idea about certmagic exams , plz let me know
I have a SQL 2005 test system set up that I need to test with protocol encryption, and had in mind to peform this test using a self-signed SSL certificate. I have read the guides and requirements from MS as well as the few blogs I could find on the subject and I've *almost* gotten it to work, but I'm failing at what seems to be the last step - getting clients to connect.. Here is what I've done:
-Created a self-signed certificate (I've tried using SSL Diagnostics from the IIS Diagnostics package, makecert.exe from .NET SDK, and OpenSSL) with the 'Server Authentication' purpose, with a CN that matches the server name, along with a private key. I've imported the cert in the local computer's personal store (also in LC's Trusted Root). -SQL Server Configuration Manager sees the certificate and allows selecting it in the configuration. I've done this and selected 'Force Encryption' in the protocol settings. -Restarted SQL Server, errorlog says 'The certificate was sucessfully loaded for encryption'. -Tried connecting locally using SSMS and setting encryption: No problem. -Exported the cert from the store and imported it into the LC's Trusted Root store on the client comp.
Here's where the problems begin. 1: Client is still apparently able to connect *unencrypted* to the SQL Server (I tested with SSMS on the client machine, it states under connection properties that the conn is not encrypted)
2: When trying to connect encrypted, SSMS returns an error during the pre-login handshake saying "The certificate's CN name does not match the passed value." When using the same cert in IIS there are no problems whatsoever, and the CN in the cert does indeed match the server name so I'm thinking the real error is hiding beneath the one that is thrown.
Also tried to configure the SQL Client Network Utility to force encryption from the client side, but this didn't seem to have any effect. I tried to use Network Monitor to capture network traffic, but since it appears to be encrypted (SQL encrypts login handshake anyway afaik) I couldn't get much out of it.. Does anyone have any tips?
I have to extract, dayly a list of contacts on a exchange server in a table on our EDW on sql server 2005. Is it possible to get the information directly from a dataflow or i will have to developpe a script task ?
Has anyone used this successfully from an OLEDB source component, or even from the Execute SQL Task? I've seen some examples of using a script component, but nothing that uses it through a connection manager.
I tried to add volume to default data & log directory of "new data default location" of database setting at SQL server properties, but it never be saved, when I get in properties again, the setting is disappear. Does somebody could advise me how to save it?
I look for and try to get data from Active Directory to MSSQL Server, but have same error:
Msg 7321, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 An error occurred while preparing the query "SELECT name FROM 'LDAP://office.experter.group' WHERE objectCategory = 'Person' AND objectClass = 'user'" for execution against OLE DB provider "ADsDSOObject" for linked server "ADSI".
for the code:
select * from openquery ( ADSI,'SELECT name FROM ''LDAP://office.experter.group'' WHERE objectCategory = ''Person'' AND objectClass = ''user''' )
I would like to know how to change the default data directory in SQL Server Express. I have a partitioned hard disk with SQL Installed on the C: drive. I would like to move the data to d: drive. I have just installed SQL and do not have any databases. I have installed SQL with advanced services.
I am currently deploying a desktop application that uses SQL Express as a local data source. I load data from other sources into the local database and then use that data for my application. Currently I'm deploying the MDF file into a Data folder within my application folder. I'm finding that most of the users that will be using this application has only power user rights, not admin rights.
My question is this. Is using a data folder within my application folder the ideal place to store this data or is there other more benefitial places within the users computer that would help reduce rights and permissions issues? When users upgrade to Vista will this cause any problems that another location might help me avoid?
Is there anyway to load all the raw data in one directory into the database? l've several files with same format but different filename in one folder which l do not know their filename before hand. Is SSIS For Each Loop can help me to accomplish the file loading? If so, where can l find the example?
Hi, Active Directory stores Information regarding Users, Groups & Policies etc. Is it possible to export Complete User Information from active directory to text file? If yes, please provide the steps. Thanking you.
I need to add one of our servers to active directory. I found some documents on SQL 2000 but no good document on SQL 2005. Can you please guide me to the documentation for this? Thanks
I've created a number of very large databases in Ms Access that I would like to upsize to SQL Server Express. I changed the default data directory location to point to a separate drive with over 400GB of free space on my home pc. However, everytime I try to upsize or link databases using the MS Access Upsizing Wizard the data is saved in the Data directory on my current hard drive and is not saved in the default location I specified. If I create a new database in SQL Express it is saved to the new location. Any ideas on how to force upsizing or uplinked data to go to the new default data location?
Currently looping through the set of flat files like CHK0604, CHK0611, CHK0618, and CHK0625 from the source folder C:SOURCE
OBJECTIVE within the flat file if any records/rows cause error i have to move the bad data into separate folder C:ERROR
STEPS TAKEN
1) In FOREACH LOOP component i specified the variable User:: sourceFilePath for my source file CHK0604 etc. location C:SOURCE. The loop walkthrough each file in C:SOURCE and if no error then moves the flat file into another folder C:ARCHIVED. This task is perfectly working.
2) Within the dataflow I am diverting the the bad rows from "conditional component" into "Flat File Destination" Component.
3) "Flat File Destination" Connection manager i set the expressions as @[User:: sourceFilePath] +"_Error.TXT".
ISSUE
Because of point (3) the error file is created in the SOURCE flat file location C:SOURCE.
QUESTION
1) My error file name should be CHK0604_Error, CHK0611_Error, CHK0618_Error, CHK0625_Error created in another folder C:ERROR.
2) How to move the bad data into another directory while looping through a set of FLAT FILES ?
3) If i have to create another variable like @[User:: ErrorFilePath] where to create ? How to use the source file title as the title of error file.?
Installation Directory = C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server
Default data directory = D:
Default log directory = D:
I found out that the data is stored in D:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLdata and backup is done in D:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLackup
However, Microsoft says we should never put the ..ackup and ..data folders in the same partition.
My question is: How can I move the path of the backup directory?
I am fairly new to SQL 2005 and Reporting Services.
We are trying to create a report that will display sales data based on group membership from Active Directory.
For example, if USER1 logs in and looks at a Year to Date Sales report, it will only show data that pertains to his group. If USER2 logs in and accesses the same report, it will display different Year to Date information because he is in a different group.
Background Information: We are running SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition Service Pack 2 with Analysis and Reporting Services. We are delivering the reports through a Sharepoint site.
Please let me know if anyone has a good way to tackle this.
I have a central database server that is runnning on SQL 2005 standard edition and Windows server 2003 standard as OS.
I realise that I can use SQL statements to encrypt and decrypt the data inside the standard SQL.
However, how do I read and write the data via an web application coded in C#.net and is also running on the same machine?
Another issue is, I need to replicate some of the data in this SQL standard over to a SQL mobile running on a mobile device running on Windows CE 5.0.
The mobile device also needs to read and write data to the encrypted data via a C#.net application.
Question is, with all these requirements to be met, can I use AES? I know that AES is not available on Windows XP and Windows Server 2000 and I cant find AES in the .net compact framework.
how do i go about ensuring security? how do I ensure that the symmetric key is the same both on the SQL standard and SQL mobile?
is there a step by step paper to get there? here is what i need to consider. I Iwill have many customers that will need their own set of records and access pages "branded for their company" each customer will have many clients. I am hosting this application on a windows 2003 server with SQL 2005 server enterprise.
I am using windows authentication, I have created a username in windows, then i added the windows user in SQL management studio in security, granted "DB Read" and "DB write" and again under the database security tab. still from the web authentication fails. i must be nissing a step or two?
I expect to set up a username for each database as i setup new customers.
"pRecordSet" is an ADO recordset. The database column "MyColumn" is of type "decimal(19,10)".
The most important question for me is, if the regional settings of the database server or the regional settings of the client PC are considered during the conversion from the string to the decimal value. For example in standard French regional settings the "." would not be recognized as decimal separator.
I am also wondering if the language of the database instance, in which this data is saved, is considered during this conversion or any other settings of this database instance.
So my general question is: Does anybody know exactly what rules apply during the above mentioned conversion?
I'm in the middle of developing a Database for a hospital that measures its audits, inhouse operations, and finance. What we currently have and do everyday is collect data from a large database that is real time with patient data, progess, infomation, etc and dump it into a data warehouse that runs on TSI/Eclipsys. We run reports using a number of programs and dump it into Excel sheets that have charts, reports, etc. This Database for which I'm developing won't come soley from the TSI/Eclypsys source, but this is the only source thats updated regularly. I don't want to have in sync with TSI/Eclipysys in fear that every day when it updates data may be lost, not read, or worse won't be up date if there is a problem. My question is is it possible to run a query from Sequel Server 2005 that will take that data upon request using the reporing features on Sequel Server 2005. i.e. What if I need to run a report on measure B in department 12 from Jan 1-Feb 1, instead of being in sync, can I just write queries to take that information rather than double the data and take up twice the space and trouble. FYI, these datatypes rarely change in the TSI/Eclipsys data warehouse. This sure was long question and didn't intended it to be . Thanks for listening and hope to hear back.
I have one column in SQL Server 2005 of data type VARCHAR(4000).
I have imported sql Server 2005 database data into one mdb file. After importing a data into the mdb file, above column data type converted into the memo type in the Access database.
now when I am trying to import a data from this MS Access File(db1.mdb) into the another SQL Server 2005 database, got the error of Unicode Converting a memo data type conversion in Export/Import data wizard.
Could you please let me know what is the reason?
I know that memo data type does not supported into the SQl Server 2005.
I am with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with SP2.
Please help me to understans this issue correctly?
Hi I have written a piece of code for Login form which reads the user id and password from db. It works fine with the Sql server 2000 but I get a error with Sql server 2005. SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection("Data Source=D\SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=model;Integrated Security=True"); SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("Select * from JsLoginDetails", conn); conn.Open(); SqlDataReader dr = cmd.ExecuteReader(); while (dr.Read()) { if ((Login1.UserName == dr.GetValue(0).ToString()) && Login1.Password == dr.GetValue(1).ToString()) { Response.Redirect("MainJs.aspx"); } else { Login1.FailureText = "Invalid Userid Or Password"; } } dr.Dispose(); conn.Close(); } I get and error Invalid object name 'JsLoginDetails'. pls help thnksdiv
When using AquaData or JDBC (inet tds driver), when doing an insert using SqlServer 2005, I get error "String or binary data would be truncated" when the data is actually OK. There are no triggers, etc. that would confuse the situation. It works fine in SqlServer 2000.
Create and populate table: create table maxtable ( tablename varchar (18) not null, [...] )
Try to insert into test3: insert into test3 (name, tbname) select i.name, o.name from dbo.sysindexes i, sysobjects o, maxtable m where i.indid > 0 and i.indid < 255 and i.id = o.id and i.indid = 1 and o.name = lower(m.tablename)
And I get the error "String or binary data would be truncated." The values being selected for i.name and o.name have maximum length of 18. There are other rows in sysindexes and sysobjects with longer values, but they are not being selected.
The error does not occur with SQL Server Management Studio, and does not occur using SqlServer 2000.
If I already have SQL2005 installed, can I create SQL express databases for distribution in my app, or do I need to install SQLExpress to run side-by-side? I actually had SQLExpress originally but upsized it to the full version. Now I want to be able to create portable DBs with my application. And if this is possible, how do I go about creating the DB? Thanks!
