The Device Is Not Ready Error When Executing Package On The Server

Nov 15, 2006

Hi,

I have a package which reads an XML file from a certain folder and parses it.

I deployed my package onto the server. Copied XML files on the D: drive the following folder on the server.

Dim reader As New Xml.XmlTextReader("D:AppsRequestClientsClientsStatus.xml") is fine.

But

Do While (reader.Read())

generates "The Device is not ready"

I think it is still trying to read it from my desktop on which I don't have a D drive.

Any help is appreciated.

DB Engine :: BACKUP LOG Command Failed - Device Is Not Ready

Oct 6, 2015

When I execute the following transaction log backup TSQL in SSMS

BACKUP LOG ProductDB
TO DISK = 'D:Database_BackupTransProductDB.trn';

I get this error:

Msg 3201, Level 16, State 1, Line 2
Cannot open backup device 'D:Database_BackupTransProductDB.trn'. Operating system error 21(The device is not ready.).
Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 2
BACKUP LOG is terminating abnormally.

I also have a daily database backup job that puts the backup file under this directory.

D:Database_BackupData

So I changed the path to this and it still fails.

BACKUP LOG ProductDB
TO DISK = 'D:Database_BackupDataProductDB.trn';

However if I change it to this path, it works:

BACKUP LOG ProductDB
TO DISK = 'MyServerDataProductDB.trn';

This turns out to be the path I used a few weeks back when I backed up the log for the very first time.  But I now wanted to store my transaction log backups in D:Database_BackupTrans.

DTS Package Error Executing In SQL Agent

Jan 28, 2005

Hi everyone,

I just got assigned to help out with a couple of problems with the running of DTS packages using the SQL Server Agent, this is the problem and a list of what I've done so far:

There are 4 packages that:

a) Deletes all records from a table and then populates it using a flat file that contains that day's transactions.

b) Creates a report in Excel

c) Creates a summary report in Excel

d) Does a), b) and c) for another table.

All these packages are scheduled to run weekdays starting at 8:00 am, and they were owned by sa. Last month we had a massive change of passwords thanks to an audit and unfortunately the dba left without letting us know that password. After the massive change, these packages started failing with errors like:

The job failed. The Job was invoked by Schedule 18 (DLYINVDT_XLS). The last step to run was step 1 (DLYINVDT_XLS).

The job failed. The Job was invoked by Schedule 22 (AGAR830_dts). The last step to run was step 1 (AGAR830_dts)

Yesterday I went into all the packages and changed the connection properties from user sa to another user that has permission over the tables and ran the 4 of them at least 10 times each, both using my personal laptop and directly in the server (just wanted to check remote and local, even though I know it really has nothing to do with the execution that its always local to the server).

Now, the funny thing is that I came in this morning and guess what..... yeap, the packages failed, I can run them manually with NO problem at all, but if I run them using the SQL Server Agent then they just will not run.

At the time I was writing this I found out the password for sa, so now I'm using it but unfortunately no change, the errors now are :

The job failed. The Job was invoked by User sa. The last step to run was step 1 (AGAR830_dts)

I'm an informix dba and I started training myself in sql a couple of months ago so I'm confortable with what I'm doing, but at this point in time I'm about to throw something to the screen :) Since I can execute the packages manually then the users are happy, but I would really like to find out why the Agent is not working right.

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated

Intermittent Runtime Error When Executing SSIS Package

Sep 12, 2007

Hi,

I'm in the process of writing a fairly complex SSIS package that reads csv files and goes on to load the content into a SQL Server 2005 database.

I am testing the package by executing it from within a Nant script. My test process resets the data in the target database and then loads data from a known set of test data files. Because it's scripted I can be sure that SSIS is being asked to do the same thing, every time in a consistent way.

When I execute the package I frequently (although not always) get an error message dialog mid-ececution that reads:

Code Snippet

Microsoft Visual c++ Runtime Library

Runtime error!

Program: C...

The application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

When I click OK the VS Just-In-Time debugger tells me about an unhandled win32 exception in DTExec.exe [4696] and asks me if I wish to debug (which I do not).

No error is reported by SSIS itself, it literally just stops in its tracks.

I will appreciate any help that can be offered here

SQL 2012 :: Parameter Error When Executing A Package With Built In Stored Procedures

Jul 23, 2014

I am using Excel VBA to run a stored procedure which executes a package using the built-in SQL Server stored procedures. The VBA passes two values from excel to the stored proc., which is then supposed to pass these "parameters" to the package to use as a variable within the package.

@Cycle sql_variant = 2
WITH EXECUTE AS 'USER_ACCOUNT' - account that signs on using windows authentication
AS
BEGIN
SET NOCOUNT ON;
declare @execution_id bigint

[code]....

When I try to execute the package, from SQL Server or Excel using the Macro I built, I get the following error:"The parameter '[User::Cycle]' does not exist or you do not have sufficient permissions." I have given the USER_ACCOUNT that runs executes the stored procedure permission to read/write to the database and the SSIS project folder.

Executing SSIS Package Through SQL Server Agent Fails

Nov 28, 2007

Hello,

I try to run a job from SQL Server Agent to execute an SSIS package, but it always fails. However, if I execute the SSIS package directly, it will succeed.

The SQL Agent Job History shows "Unable to start execution of step 1 (reason: Error authenticating proxy DB1DB1_CREDENTIAL, system error: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.). The step failed."

P.S. DB1 is my server name, DB1_CREDENTIAL is the account creating the credential

The SQL Server Agent Error Log shows "[298] SQLServer Error: 22046, Impersonation error. [SQLSTATE 42000]"

I've created an account on OS and assigned it to a credential.
Then, I created a proxy with the credential and then created the SQL Server Agent job with that proxy.

P.S. My SSIS package protection level is created as "Rely on server storage and roles for access control", because if it is set as "Do not save any sensitive data", package execution will fail even I run it directly.

How can I successfully run SSIS package from SQL Server Agent?
Do I lose any setting steps?

Thanks for help.

Failure When Executing SSIS Package From C# On Machine Different Then SQL Server

Apr 7, 2008

Hi everybody,
I'm newby in SSIS. I have been using DTS in SQL 2000.
Trying to learn how to execute SSIS package from C# code of ASP.NET web server.
Here's my case:
1. SSIS package with simple data transformation from one table to CSV is stored in SQL Server 2005 storage
2. CSV is for simplicity placed in C: .txt
3. I haven't used SSIS configuration files
4. Protection level of package = EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey
5. Executes OK from Bussiness inteligence studio
6. I've created console application with this code:

...
sqlServeruser = "sa"
...

Package package = app.LoadFromSqlServer("Export_vw_TestConsumerPerson", sqlServer, sqlServerUser, sqlServerPassword, null);
DTSExecResult result = package.Execute();
Console.WriteLine("Package Execution results: {0}",result.ToString());
...

7. When I connect through Remote Desktop Connection I successfully execute this console application on SQL server host machine.
8. When I try execution from computer where I develop package and where I successfully executed it from Bussiness inteligence studio I'm geting FAILURE was a result

Connection params for SQL are same in console application and in SSIS project of Bussiness inteligence studio.

Thanks for any hints

Executing SSIS Package Using Jobs In SQL Server Agent Infinite Loop

I'm trying to execute my package using schedule in SQL Server Agent, I've already tested my package by run it manually in Integration services and it works. The table created, the data from my flat file also inserted into the table correctly and the result return with success.

The question is why when I execute my package using SQL Server Agent, the SQL Server Agent keep executing my package like infinite loop until I stop the job. after I stop the job there is no error generated by sql server. Could you figured why this happen?? I've already tried to upgrade into SP2 and set the package protection level and still not get good result from it. thank you.

Passing The Xml Configuration File To The Package As An Input Parameter While Executing The Package

Feb 2, 2007

Hi,

I am planning to develop a single package that will download files from ftp server, move the files to internal file server and upload it in the database. But I want to run this package for multiple ftp file providers. For each provider the ftp server might be different and the transformation to upload the files into a database table might be different.

So can I create a single package and then multiple configuration files (xml), which will contain the details fo the ftp file providers and then pass the xml file as a parameter while executing the package. The reason being that the timings of fetching the files is different for each ftp file provider and hence cannot be combined into one.

Is this possible?

Thanks for your help.

SQL Server 2008 :: Backup To Device / UNC File / Generates OS Error

It's OS / SQL related. I backup to a UNC device, and frequently get a network related error - but not always. And the error is also OS related...

The scene: 64 bit Windows Server 2008 hosts 64 bit SQL 2008 Standard, and devices are created to point to 64 Server 2008 Server B (ServerBSQL_backupsdvc_DB.bak). The database is backed up daily, on a job, and when run the following error is returned:

The file is generated, the same size as a successful backup, but the job terminates unsuccessful.I have tried to delete the devices' file, and then the backup usually succeeds. This may point to a permissions' type error, but the user the job is run under is a domain admin. The destination server is not unavailable during this time, and the network shares also remain active throughout the excersize - although I haven't got a way to "prove" this.

I have a few databases that backup to the UNC described above (different files) that don't fail..My SQL2000 server backs up it's databases to the SQL2008 server, and those backups don't fail with this error.

My research has led me to understand that the 64bit OS tries to buffer the files it receives from another server, and I was wondering if this could be influencing the backups as the destination server is also 64 bit Windows Server 2008.

SQL Server Comact Error 0XC0000005 After Device Is Powered Off And Back On

Mar 12, 2008

This is my first attempt to use SQL Server Compact with Visual Studio 2005.

I wrote a program for Inventory Scaning which requires the database to be stored on an SD Card. As long as the device is left powered on, the programs function normally. However, if the device powers off and is then turned back on the 0xC0000005 error is displayed when the program attempts to do anything with the SQL Connection.

I have also written a small sample program to test and the results are repeatable each time.

The sample program consists of a single form with six buttons (Create Database, Open Database, Insert Records, Delete Records, Close Database, Dispose Database).

Both programs are written in VB.

Here is the code for the sample program.

Public Class frmSQLTest

Private cnDB As System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeConnection

Private connString As String

Private Sub frmSQLTest_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load

Me.txtDB.Text = "Storage CardTest.sdf"

End Sub

Private Sub txtDB_LostFocus(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles txtDB.LostFocus

connString = "Data Source=" & Me.txtDB.Text

Me.txtStatus.Text = "Connection String Set"

End Sub

Private Sub btnCreate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCreate.Click

If Me.txtDB.Text = Nothing Then

MessageBox.Show("Unable to Create Database")

Exit Sub

End If

Dim eng As New System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeEngine(connString)

eng.CreateDatabase()

eng = Nothing

Me.txtStatus.Text = "Database Created"

End Sub

Private Sub btnOpenDB_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnOpenDB.Click

Dim sqlDB As New System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeCommand

If cnDB Is Nothing Then

cnDB = New System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeConnection(connString)

End If

cnDB.Open()

Me.txtStatus.Text = "Database Opened"

sqlDB.Connection = cnDB

sqlDB.CommandText = "CREATE TABLE Master (Item nvarchar(12), Description nvarchar(19))"

sqlDB.ExecuteNonQuery()

sqlDB.CommandText = "CREATE INDEX idx_Master on Master (Item)"

sqlDB.ExecuteNonQuery()

Me.txtStatus.Text = "Master Table Created"

sqlDB = Nothing

End Sub

Private Sub btnInsert_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnInsert.Click

Dim RecCount As Long

Dim sqlDB As New System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeCommand

sqlDB.Connection = cnDB

For RecCount = 1 To Me.nudRecs.Value

sqlDB.CommandText = "INSERT INTO Master ([Item], [Description]) " _

& "VALUES ('" & RecCount.ToString & "','Test Item " & RecCount.ToString & "')"

sqlDB.ExecuteNonQuery()

If RecCount Mod 100 = 0 Then

Me.txtStatus.Text = "Updating Record..." & RecCount.ToString

End If

Next

Me.txtStatus.Text = "Records Inserted"

sqlDB = Nothing

End Sub

Private Sub btnDelete_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnDelete.Click

Dim sqlDB As New System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeCommand

sqlDB.Connection = cnDB

sqlDB.CommandText = "Delete FROM Master"

Me.txtStatus.Text = "Master Table Cleared"

sqlDB = Nothing

End Sub

Private Sub btnCloseDB_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCloseDB.Click

cnDB.Close()

Me.txtStatus.Text = "Database Closed"

End Sub

Private Sub btnDispose_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnDispose.Click

cnDB = Nothing

System.IO.File.Delete(Me.txtDB.Text)

Me.txtStatus.Text = "Database Diposed"

End Sub

End Class

In my tests, I start the program (loaded on the Storage Card in the same directory as the database). SQL Server Compact is also installed on the SD Card to save space in Main Memory.

Steps to Re-Create the Error:

1. Click the Create Database button. Database is created properly.
2. Click the Open Database button. Database connection opens properly.
3. Click the Insert Records button. Records are inserted into the table properly.
4. Turn off the Symbol MC3000 unit.
5. Turn the unit back on.
6. When I click on any of the following buttons, the error is displayed. Close Database, Insert Records, Delete Records.

I have also tried closing the database (as well as closing and disposing the database) prior to step 4 above, but when I try to re-open the database (or create the database) again, the error displays.

Is there anyway to correct this issue?

With the real program, the database must be kept open as long as each form is open to prevent speed issues and the database must be stored on the SD Card since there is not enough storage space available on the device.

Error Connecting To Localhost Site To View SQL Server Mobile Agent On Device

Feb 9, 2007

I have set up a locahost site in IIS using the "Configure Web Synchronization Wizard". One of the first test I was asked to do was to open a broweser and browse to http://localhost/MobileTest/sqlcesa30.dll

If all is well I should get a web page with the following line:

SQL Server Mobile Server Agent 3.0

But unfortunately I get an error stating :
"The server has encountered an error while loading an application during the processing of your request. Please refer to the event log for more detail information. Please contact the server administrator for assistance."

I checekd the Event log and found this error related the IIS launch process on my machine.

DCOM got error "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. " and was unable to logon .IWAM_Rataq in order to run the server:

where Rataq is the name of my machine. Could my IWAM_Rataq account be corrupted, my other sites on the machine work.

Infact if i put in a Test.htm page in the virtual directory MobileTest I am able to browse to the page.

Can the Account be re-set? is there another problem that I am not aware of. I have Norton Internet 2006 running could that be the reason? Could Norton be blocking the dll from loading? But the event log states it is a Account error.

Any ideas why this might occur? any help is always appreciated

SQL Server Mirroring-Production Ready Yet?

Mar 9, 2007

Hello,
Is SQL Server 2005 mirroring production ready yet. We have two servers and plan to set up mirroring between them. We have the Standard Editon installed on them.
Is Standard Edition sufficient or does it need Enterprise Edition?

Thanks in Advance,
Sarath R
