The Command Line Parameters Are Invalid For Source Connection String When Running As A SQL Job

Jan 30, 2008

Hi All,

I created a SSIS package to import an excel spreadsheet into my data warehouse.
When I run the package it runs fine. When I created a SQL Job to run the package I get the following error:

Option "Source=D:HelpDeskImportBook2.xls;Extended" is not valid. The command line parameters are invalid.

Now if I look at my source connection string in the job it looks like the following:

Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=D:HelpDeskImportBook2.xls;Extended Properties=HDR=YES;EXCEL 8.0;HDR=YES";

Does anyone know why it appears that my connection string looks like it is being cut off and does anyone know how I can correct the problem?

Thanks,

Scott

Command Line Parameters Are Invalid

Sep 23, 2006

I have a package that let me to import data from a excel book to a Sql server data base. When I try to run this package like a step into a SQL server Job it show me the next error.

"The command line parameters are invalid. The step failed."

the "command line" looks like this

/FILE "C:ProjectPackage.dtsx" /CONNECTION ConexionExcel;"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Da ta Source=;Extended Properties=""EXCEL 8.0;HDR=YES"";" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING EWCDI
and in my excel conexion is:

Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=;Extended Properties="EXCEL 8.0;HDR=YES";
When i run the "Command Line" in the "Command window" the error is more expecific

"EXCEL 8.0;HDR=YES;" is not valid
So I chanded the "Command Line" in order to run it in de command window(look the double quote in the excel properties)

/FILE "C:ProjectPackage.dtsx" /CONNECTION ConexionExcel;"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Da ta Source=;Extended Properties="EXCEL 8.0;HDR=YES";" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING EWCDI
then the package RUN, but when i tried to do the same thing in the
sql wizzard, it just dont work and it lost the threat from de package and the errors says this time:

Couldn't find the package

Some one who knows the answer or has any idea to helpme please?

thanks

Command Line Parameters Are Invalid Is The Output For A SQL Job To Run SSIS Package

May 25, 2006

Hello,

I created a SSIS package that has a flat file manager whose connection string is a package variable, the reason is that there is a foreachfile container loop to loop thru CSV format files in a directory and load them to a sql table.

The package execution is working in the designer studio as well as in the management studio-- a copy was saved to a sql 2005 server where a sql job is deployed to run the package. However when I ran the job, it claims successful but doesn€™t do anything in reality. If I checked the box failing the package upon validation warming, the job will fail with the error: the command line parameters are invalid. The command line looks like below:

/SQL "Package" /SERVER FTLQSQL03 /WARNASERROR /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF

One thing that I think maybe wrong is on the data source tab of the job step GUI, the flat file manager€™s connection string is blank, compared to other connection managers having related values.

Does anyone know how to make the job working?

Thanks in advance

COMMAND LINE PARAMETERS

Apr 22, 2008

Hi all,

A quick newbie question...

I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 Standard and upgrade from Express edition. The Edition Change check tells me I must run the setup from the command prompt "and include the SKUUPGRADE=1 parameter", but I don't know how to enter this from the command line.

I've tried "D:setup SKUUPGRADE=1" and "D:setup -SKUUPGRADE=1", as well as "D:setup.exe /SKUUPGRADE=1" without success.

Can anyone give me a clue as to where I'm going wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Running A SQL File From OSQL Command Line Utility

Jul 20, 2005

Hi,I have dumped a very large database from mysql (using mysqldump program)as a raw sql file. The reason was, convert this database to a MSSQLdatabase. Since mysqldump creates the file as raw sql file with thedatabase-table structures and the data in it, I thought using OSQL commandline utilities should work to out this whole database in MSSQL server.I have run this command from command line:osql -u sa -i mysqldump.sqlIt is going since yesterday. It has been almost 36 hours that it'sstarted. And in the mssql server, I see no database created yet. On thescreen of the command line, I see bunch of numbers are going in order. Iassume they are row numbers of the tables processed. But, if it is doing it,then where is it saving all this data ? I have checked the tempdb, pub db,other dbs, and I see no tables related to the database I am inserting. Willit populate it at the and of the job ? Or, am I doing something wrong here?Regards.Murtix.

FTP Using DTS. Error Invalid Format For String Source Names

Hi,
I am trying to do a simple ftp using DTS. I am using a Dynamic properties task as the file name is a bit complicated eg - f2368fd1.ext.040330.2
where 040330 is according to the date and the .2 is the second file for the day.
When i run the task, it fails giving me the error "Invalid format for string source names"

I then tried to use a simple file name such as TD.txt as a constant in the Dynamic properties task but still it fails. Any ideas ??

Invalid Connection String Attribute

Jan 7, 2008

Hi all,

We have recently been having some problems with our server, and im stuck for ideas of what to try next!

Basically we have a busy period every 2 hours where we have many records that need to be processed etc, but we are getting an error coming back saying 'Invalid connection string attribute'.

Now this would be fine but we are using a UDL and 80% of the records are going in fine and its just this few that are coming back with this error. This happens at 3mins and 55 secs past the hour everytime too.

Now i ran SQL profiler over this time and there are records and such being processed fine, then all of a sudden at 3min and 55 secs past there is a mass 'Audit Logout' noted in profiler.

It would seem to me it has nothing to do with the connection string as it was working perfectly fine before.

The processing is done using a VB6 dll being called through ASP on IIS 6.

Does anyone have any ideas on what to try next or advice?

Thanks all
Danny

User Instance=True Causes Invalid Connection String

Feb 14, 2006

Whenever I use "User Instance=True" as in the connection string below, I get an invalid connection string error. If I take it out, the connection string generates other errors.

"Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;User Instance=True;AttachDBFileName=|DataDirectory|DbName.mdf;Data Source=.\sqlexpress;"

Removing User Instance=True always eliminates the invalid connection string message.

BTW, I tried both Data Source=.\sqlexpress and Data Source=.sqlexpress.

How To Parameterize XML Data Source Connection String?

Sep 17, 2007

I need to create a report that lists other reports in the SSRS database. So I created an XML Data Source. But no matter what, I can't seem to parameterize this connection string so that it'll always point to whichever report server the report is deployed to. I know that I can change this data source once I've done deployment, however I don't want to have to change this whenever I change from SIT to UAT to Production. Is there a way to achieve this?

I tried:

"http://" & Globals!ReportServerUrl & "/ReportService2005.asmx"
="http://" & Globals!ReportServerUrl & "/ReportService2005.asmx"
http://Globals!ReportServerUrl/ReportService2005.asmx

Globals!ReportServerUrl & "/ReportService2005.asmx"

Get Flat File Source Connection String At Run Time

Apr 12, 2007

I have a simple package, which reads a flat file source, does some transformation, and outputs to a flat file destination. The package runs as a SQL Agent job, so I have the flat file source and OLEDB connection ticked and configured on the data sources tab.

What I would like to do is get hold of the flat file source connection string property from inside the package at run time, and use it to set the flat file destination connection string using property expressions.

The easy option is to set the destination in the agent job, but I'd like to add a date/time stamp to the destination filename.

Is this possible?

Thanks,

Greg.
