The Installer Has Insufficient Privileges To Access This Directory: C:Config.Msi.

Jun 1, 2006

I am trying to install SQL Server 2005. I am already administrator on this machine, and I do not understand why it keeps asking me this. I can't get all the features installed because of this error message.

The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:Config.Msi.

Please help.

Insufficient Privileges

May 25, 2008

After installing Express, I tried running the QuickStart utility and received an error that I have insufficient privileges to create. I am the administrative user on my laptop and don't understand why I am unable to run the utility.

I did have an instance previously and had no problems with it until it was corrupted somehow.

I am running on Vista.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Automating IUSR Access Priviledges With Anonymous Access For SRS Virtual Directory.

Feb 22, 2008

We have an application that requires write settings to reportserver virtual directory for the IUSR account when anonymous is turned on during the install. Once the install is complete, we lock down the IUSR account so that it only has browse access to the virtual directory when enabling anonymous access.

We automate the uninstall and install of our daily builds and I'm trying to figure out if I can automated this process somehow either through command line utility or in vbs.

Your help is greatly appreciated...

How To Access Web.config

Nov 15, 2007

I am using vs2005 and have a solution file with 4 projects, 2 of which are presentation layers (admin sections), 1 is a business logic layer, the other a data access layer.
The data access layer project is simply a class library that will provide data access functionality.  Im using a dataset (xsd) to create my data access objects.  My question is how do I select a connection string from the web config file (which is in each of the presentation layer projects)  as the data access layer is a class library there is no web.config.  Using the connection string selector in the dataset wizard doesnt show any available connection strings.

Cannot Access Surface Area Config

Jan 26, 2007

Hi,

I'm posting this in the Setup forum as I think the problem relates to my SQL Server Configuration. Being new to server management pls ask for more info if I don't explain this clearly enough, I'm running out of idea.

Here's the set up:

Windows Server 2003 Web Edition SP2
SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition SP1

When I try to run apps I get the following message:

SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

I've found some great notes on the TechNet forums explaining this error and how to resolve it by configuring the Surface Area Tool... remote connections etc

But, this is where I draw a blank as I cannot access the Surafce Area Configuartion for Services and Connections because certain components are not installed, or I do not have admin rights. I definitly have the admin rights, but have no idea where to start looking for aforementioned components.

During the SQL Server install I recevied the warning:

SQL Service Edition System Compatibility - Some components of this edition of SQL Server are not supported on this Op system.

It sounds pretty generic and doesn't offer anymore details, but could this be effecting it?

I've also noticed that when I open SQL Server Configuration Manager and click on SQL Server 2005 Services nothing appears in the right-hand panel???  I'm sure there should be???

I've been all over TechNet & Books online and cannot find any reference for what I'm experiencing.

Any help or guidance will be greatly appreciated!

 Thanks!

Access Denied To RSReportServer.config

Apr 7, 2006

Hi,

I've just installed the new SQLSRV 2005 Express Adv Ed (ASP.NET 2.0.50727) and also installed the reporting services. Trying to browse the ReportServer website (via inetmgr or //localhost/ReportServer/) returns the following error (using Windows Credentials):

>>The report server has encountered a configuration error. See the report server log files for more information. (rsServerConfigurationError)

Access to the path 'c:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2Reporting ServicesReportServerRSReportServer.config' is denied.

<<

How can this be fixed? All hints appreciated. Thanks

External Access Denied To Update A Config File

Feb 6, 2006

Hello,

I'm having an issue with a CLR Stored procedure. Everything works great in a 32 bit environment, I have a CLR SP that updates an xml file stored on a local drive. When I execute the Stored proc it does go and update what I want it to in a 32 bit system. When I run the CLR SP on a 64 bit cluster, I seem to have give the "everyone" group write permissions to my G: drive (which is where the file is located that I'm updating). What security context is this SP running under? I thought it would be either under the SQL Service account (which is a domain user in the local administrators group) or what I'm logged in as when I run it from Management Studio (which is a domain admin, also in the local administrators group). If I have given the local administrators group "Full Control" access to the G: drive, why isn't this enough? Why do I have to give the Everyone group write access?

The security context seems odd to me, it seems like it's not running as either one of those 2 users I mentioned, because if it was, then it should be able to update the xml file.

Any help appreciated. Here's the error I'm getting:

Msg 6522, Level 16, State 1, Procedure usp_XMLWriter, Line 0

Default Data Directory And Access Upsizing

Apr 15, 2006

I've created a number of very large databases in Ms Access that I would like to upsize to SQL Server Express. I changed the default data directory location to point to a separate drive with over 400GB of free space on my home pc. However, everytime I try to upsize or link databases using the MS Access Upsizing Wizard the data is saved in the Data directory on my current hard drive and is not saved in the default location I specified. If I create a new database in SQL Express it is saved to the new location. Any ideas on how to force upsizing or uplinked data to go to the new default data location?

Reporting Services :: Parsing SSRS Config File And Dynamically Changing File Path Of Config File In Code

Sep 2, 2015

Currently have a single hard coded file path to the SSRS config file which parses the file and provides the reporting services web service url.  My question is how would i run this same query against 100s of servers that may or may not share the same file path as the one hard coded ?

Is there a way to query the registry to find the location of the config file of any server ? which could be on D, E, F, H, etc.

I know I can string together the address followed by "reports" and named instance if needed, but some instances may not have used the default virtual directory name (Reports).

Am I going about this the hard way ? Is there a location where the web service url exists in a table ? I could not locate anything in the Reporting service database. Basically need to inventory all of my reporting services url's.

My Installer

Mar 2, 2008

Hi everyone. I have a question.

I have an installer that runs seamlessly in any 32bit -x86 OS. But if I tried to run the exe(installer) to any 64bit OS, yeah it runs and creates a database, but does not create a tables on it...

The installer is compiled in a platform 32bit OS.

Do you have any idea about this? Do I need to recompile the application in a 64bit OS?

Installer Problem

Oct 22, 2007

Hello all,

I am trying to install an instance of Compact Edition via the command line. I am using the SQLServerCE31-EN.msi file. Below is the parameters that I have passed

/qb ADDLOCAL=ALL INSTANCENAME=myInstance SQLAUTOSTART=1 SAPWD=myPassword SECURITYMODE=SQL DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0"

However, when the executable runs. the instance under the Add/remove window shows as "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition[ENU]". Previous versions show the instance name instead of the "ENU". For example "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition(myInstance)".

Is there something wrong with the parameters that I am passing? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

DBO Privileges

May 29, 2004

I have just noticed something very discomforting.

I was told that a user with DBO privileges is able to alter their own database. A conversation of course began to where I was in disagreement with him. The ultimate test of course would be setup the scenario. To my surpise he was right!

I checked the BOL documentation and my concerns were verified.

I have checked permissions on the user I created as well as on a user that previously exists on the MSSQL Server. Only DBO permissions were given to the tested users.

I thought maybe this had something to do with the autogrow setting which is a setting we would enable on a dedicated MSSQL Server but not on a shared MSSQL Server. I toggled this option and the DBO was still able to make size changes to their database.

This is very upsetting as we charge for additional reserved database space. Aside from that, we wouldn't want to have a user with unlimited resources to the server. I could easily fill up a hard drive if I were to update the autogrow setting of the database as DBO and run an infinite loop that would insert data into tables.

I then tested the ability for a user to restore a backup and to my surprise it worked without error for the DBO only privileged user. The DBO user was also able to restore previously dated databases assuming that they knew the file name which would not be hard to guess since it is appended with a date stamp (My_Database_20042905.BAK).

Why is this? Is there a way to correct this and prevent the DBO user to only have access to their database but not the above mentioned type privileges?
