The Margin Width Between A Report And Subreport
Jan 10, 2008
Hi,
I have a report which includes a subreport. I would like to position them in a vertical position so that they like like just one report.
I have placed them within a rectangle but there is still quite a vertical distance between them and I cannot find any margin properities to fix this.
Would appreciate any hints, tip & advice.
Thanks,
John

I have a subreport on my main report, and the subreport contains a matrix. When I run the report, the subreport seems to expand beyond the width of the main report. The matrix itself does not expand beyond the width of the body of the main report, but for some reason it seems that the subreport does. The subreport does not contain any headers that might be messing up the width. If I cut and paste the matrix from the subreport directly onto the main report, and remove the subreport, it prints fine. But as soon as I include the subreport on the main report it prints with blank pages because the subreport expands beyond the width of the body of the main report. I have checked the width and margins on the subreport and compared to the width of the main report and all looks good. Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Hi,
I've a report projects where each report has a number of columns and the spec is to have all the columns print-out on the same page. Is there a setting that will auto-scale these columns to fit to the page or will I have to edit the font size and widths manually on each report to fit to the page?
Thanks for any comments.

I am trying to create a report with a sub report in Sql Server 2012 using Report Builder Version 3. I can run the subreport without any problems. I read where using a shared connection can cause this error so both the main report and the subreport use a connection that is embedded in my report.
For testing, I created the subreport without a parameter and added it to the main report. When I ran it that way, the report worked and sub report displayed the data. So I know it can read from the database. It seems to only give me this error when I am trying to tie the two reports together using a parameter.

Using SSRS 2014 and VS2013 rc5.
How do I hide a subreport if the parent report row containing the subreport is a certain value? I am attempting to create a statement with ageing buckets. In the main body of the report I have to display payments and invoices. If the invoice row is blank, I need to hide the row containing the subreport.
First, Is this even possible?
Second, How?

I'm having a relatively big issue with printing my check report. The report continues, time after time, and regardless of the margins I choose for the report, to be displaced an additional 1" up from the bottom of the page. The printing method is through our newly designed application which sends the emf rendering to the printer. We have gone through the liberty of modifying the actual print document in VB with margins set at 0,0,0,0 (L, R, T, B) and have paid close attention to the printer's maximum printing area. We have come to the conclusion that the problem is coming from reporting services. In addition to the extra margin space on the bottom of the page, there is also a slight yet noticeable shrinking of the page. Despite the fact that those are trade symptoms of another issue after the emf rendering we have modified every possible function of the printdocument and printer settings. So we continue to push the question, is this reporting services? We are fairly certain. I'm asssuming this is a bug in SSRS 2005, yet, I have yet to hear of any similiar case. This is our VS version info just incase:

UPDATE (12/20/2007 1:43:07 pm):
We have made a small break-through discovery. We found that that if we convert our report using a pdf rendering that the additional 1 inch added to the bottom margin is no longer there. So, pdf rendering would be an option if we became more desperate. However, this is too time consuming and we would much rather have the report directly sent to the print spooler instead of loading then spooling. Does anybody know what is going on with this apparent conflict between SSRS 2005 and our emf renderer?

I'm not very familiar with sql server 2005, and am trying to create some reports for the first time. I created 4 fairly basic reports. Three of them work just fine. The fourth one is giving me fits. When I look at it in Visual Studio, it previews just fine - generates the correct data and everything. When I deploy it to report services, however, it gets squashed sideways, so that it is about three times too narrow. I've looked at both the body properties and the report properties, and they all appear ok when compared to the other three reports. The body width is set to 8.9 inches, and the report page size and interactive size properties are set to 8.6 inches.
Can anyone point me in the right direction, or am I going to have to start from scratch?
Thanks in advance...

Hi,
I have a very big report with 60 columns and some columns are invisible.
The problem is now if I have 30 columns that are invisible (hidden=TRUE), the report width still stays at 60 columns width, and the Horizontal scroll bar become very long and it just scroll to blanks.
I would like to know how to resize the report after it is generated?
Thanks.

Hi All,
We are having a table report which has set of columns where the visibility is made false based on report parameters. It works fine and the table automatically shrinks. But, the page width remains as early and has lot of blank space in it. It also causes printer to print many blank pages.
Is there a way to control pagewidth dynamically? Thought of adding a custom assembly to control page width - but how to access the page that is getting displayed. "this" will refer to the the assembly class instead of report as such.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Regards, kart

Has anyone found out how to dynamically create report width.
If I have 20 columns on a report all of 2cm, then report will be 40cm width.
If I display the columns based on specific criteria using the iif function and then setting the an expression for the Visibility Hidden property, the report could potentially reduce in width.
I cannot see how to build an expression for the report width or table width, to accommodate the potential change in the width of the report when columns are not shown, thus it pages incorrectly, leaving huge white space on the right of the report when columns are hidden... has anyone come across this requirement, and hopefully a solution for it?
Many Thanks people

I have like 100 columns and most of them work fine, but some will not work. I need to select the columns with correct width for fixed width flat file.
Here is typical SQL statment that works for most of them.
left(RTRIM(A.City) + Replicate(' ', 25) ,25) as [City]
The above one is not working, but many other works fine like the address. Why would it work for some, but not others?
It works fine if I use any char, but not space. i.e.
left(RTRIM(A.City) + Replicate('*', 25) ,25) as [City]

Does anyone know how to control the width of the parameter dropdownlist? If you select "Multi-value" for the parameter (non-sp1 version) the parameter list is in a dropdownlist that is manageable in size. If you do not use the multi-value parameter, it looks like the width of the dropdownlist is determined by the width of the longest text of the returned parameters.
Is there any way to control the width of the dropdown?
Thanks

Hello,
I have a report where I'm showing a list of users to select.
When previewing the report, the width of the field is automatically set to the largest label in the dropdown list.
But when I change the parameter to have "Multi-Values", then the width is set to a fixed value and a horizontal scrollbar appears.
Does anyone know how to have a "Multi-Values" parameter, but keeping the lasgest width of the labels in the dropdown list ?
Thanks in advance

I found the following paragraph while searching on here:
************************************************************************
You could easily set up a parameter for each column and then display that column conditionally based on the parameter.
For instance, if you have a column that displays First Name, you could have a parameter called DisplayFirstName. Then in design view you'd select the whole FirstName column and in the Visibility-Hidden property set it to :
=iif( Parameters!DisplayFirstName.Value = false, true, false )
This could easily become a big, unwieldy report, though, if you have a great number of dynamic columns. Also, The width of the report is set at design time, and it includes the width of all your columns, not just the visible ones. This could cause you some pagination problems.
************************************************************************
That is exactly my problem. I have lots of dynamic columns which causes the width of the report to be wide. Thus even though at run time the report only shows columns within a page, the report itself consists of a lot of white spaces after the selected columns. Does anyone know a solution to this? If not, I guess creating the rdl with code manually is the only way? Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Will the width property of a column be able to be set at run-time (i.e. ability to set the width of a column to an expression) in SQL Reporting Services 2008? One problem I have seen is the inability to set the width of columns in a report when you you have several columns whose order is determined based on parameters.
Lets say I have 2 columns in a report and two fields from the database which will populate those columns: 1 field that is varchar(5) and one which is varchar(50). If I do not know which column each field will go to until runtime how am I supposed to adjust the column width? Letting the column width be set by an expression would solve everything as I could pass the width in to the report. As it stands now, I would have to set each column's width to accomodate a field of type varchar(50) in order to avoid wrapping of data.
You could say just create 2 reports, one for each case, but what if I had 15 fields? 20?how to dynamically set the width of a column? Will the width of a column be able to be set at run-time in SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 via expression or some other means?

Hello,
is it possible to have a kind of dynamic subreport in a main report.
Let me illustrate this with an example:
Next to my table i would like to have a window (subreport) that changes content whenever i click on a different value
inside my table. In the subreport i would like to display detail information on specific cells in my table.
Is this possible in SSRS 2005?
Greetings

Hi,
The report that I must create is related to the production order.
Conceptually it can be seen as a tree.
Where the root of the tree are the information Header of the production order.
The principals children of the Root are the Operations and the Requirements to produce such order.
For every Operation they are printed the Plants that are used and the Alternative Resources to effect the production.
There is a method to create a multilevel report?
I think that is not for nothing logical to create a single table containing many heterogenous fields because it would have to repeat already numerous information at the changing of a field.
I have created one datatable for every entity and I have tried to use subreport control, but evidently mistake in something.
In order to obtain the wanted result (for example to print the Order production Head information if the report jump at new page) I have tried to combine the use of List control, Table control and Subreport control in file rdlc, but I have not found the just combination.
Someone of you has already had to crare a multilevel report? Is possible to create a sub-subreport structure?
I have do that in VB.NET with ReportViewer local mode. I have posted the topic in this section because the problem of designe report is the same with local mode and remote mode.
Thanks

I have a dataset for report builder 3 that has 8 fields. The data for the report needs to be grouped by the first field. The 2nd field is a string that describes the group field and this too needs to be on the same row as the group field. This 2nd field need nearly the full page width. The remaining 6 fields need to end up rendering below the first row. I can't figure out how to get report builder to put the first 2 fields on the first row and use the full page width.

What we've found is that when you have two reports where one navigates to the other, if you click on the second page of the second report, it takes you to the second page of the original report. If you navigate over to the subreport again and click for the second page, it works appropriately. This is definitely a no-go for production code and this may delay our ship date because I would think this is definitely undesirable.
Conditions:
ASP.NET Report Viewer using Remote Reports
Report that links to another report
Both reports return more than one page
Reporting Services installed
Steps to Reproduce:
Download the source code here.
Follow the directions (near the bottom of the post) to get the project set up.
Run it and click on a link in the first report to go to the second report.
Click the arrow for page 2 of the second report.
Notice how it takes you back to page 2 of the first report (this doesn't happen when you are in preview mode in the Reporting Services project and I don't believe it does this in a smart client application).
Click on a link in the first report to go back to the second report.
Click the arrow for page 2.
Notice how it takes you to page 2 of the second report.
Here is a link with source code and a more detailed explanation: http://geekswithblogs.net/robz/archive/2007/11/21/Reporting-Services-2005-BUG-Report-Linking-and-Paging---ASP.NET.aspx
So what I am looking for is both a workaround for now and if this is determined to be a bug, to be fixed in the next service pack.

I have a base folder (Report Folder A) which has several reports. One of these is a report that is simply a subreport of one of the others in the folder (it uses different default parameters, which is why it's necessary).
I then created another folder (Report Folder B) for users who only have access to some of the data in the reports...so they have browser access to Folder B but not Folder A. All of the reports for the users work except for the one that contains the subreport. When I run the report with a subreport I get the message: "Error: Subreport could not be shown". I'm guessing this is because the users don't have access to the base report. Does anyone have an idea of how to work around this without giving the users access to the base report (in Folder A)?
Thanks,
Richard

SUBREPORT (License info to the right) SHOULD PRINT TO RIGHT OF ADDRESS INFORMATION ON LEFT. LIKE THIS...
Name ABC-12345
Address line 1 DEF-12345
Address line 2 GH1-12345
City, State Zipcode
The data is from one table and looks like this. Both the main report and subreport use a shared data souce.
Name Address line 1 City State Zipcode License
------------- ------------------- ------------- --------- ---------- ---------
Joe Schmoe 123 Maple Street Clearwater Florida 33777 ABC-12345
Joe Schmoe 123 Maple Street Clearwater Florida 33777 DEF-12345
Joe Schmoe 123 Maple Street Clearwater Florida 33777 GHI-12345
All lines are header lines. Subreport has been placed in top header line.
IT IS PRINTING SIMILAR TO THIS BUT SHOULD PRINT AS FIRST STATED ABOVE...
Name ABC-12345
DEF-12345
GH1-12345
Address line 1
Address line 2
City, State Zipcode
ISSUE: I would like the subreport to PRINT ALONG WITH the address information to its left. In Crystal Report a subreport could "Underlay Following Sections" - a wonderful feature Microsoft maybe should have copied. Is there a way to duplicate "underlay" behavior in SQL Reporting ? Thanks.
UPDATE: Coworker found workaround. Can concatenate Name, Adress line 1, Address line 2, City, State and Zipcode into one field. Would still like to know a more straightforward way.
