There Was An Unexpected Failure During The Setup Wizard.
Dec 20, 2005
Hello!
I'm trying to install Microsoft SQL Server (en_SQL2005_DEV_Servers_Sept2005). But when I do so I get:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 CTP Setup
------------------------------
There was an unexpected failure during the setup wizard. You may review the setup logs and/or click the help button for more information.
For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=20476&ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.1314.06&EvtSrc=setup.rll&EvtID=50000&EvtType=packageengine%5cinstallpackageaction.cpp%40InstallToolsAction.10%40sqls%3a%3aInstallPackageAction%3a%3aperform%400x643
I keep getting this error message at the same point everytime I try to install SQL 2005. I have tried everything I can find on the website and nothing works! Any ideas???
I was trying an edition upgrade from SQL 2005 standard x64 to SQL 2005 enterprise x64 using the "setup SKUUPGRADE=1" from the command line. The SO is W2003 server R2 enterprise and I have a SQL clustered environment with 2 nodes (active/passive).
I select to upgrade the SQL module and I mark the checkbox for the cluster installation. The installation seems to work properly untill setup is doing the task "removing backup files". Then 2 "unexpected error" message appears as follows. The 2 above windows appear when you click on the help icon.

The following is the end of the SQL setup log file:
I got this error message during SQL Server Express install with no error code on Server 2003 SP1. I'm installing on an older development machine and although I do have a very large log file somewhere I wanted to post before I even dug into it. I noticed in IIS under my Webs that the MSSQLExpress webs were there at first but when I clicked on them to get any info or Properties... they dissapeared. So they were almost installed but they no longer exist. Also I do not have a SQL Service Manager icon down near the clock.
I almost took a step to fix this. After reading a few posts about similar problems I thought maybe this happened because the Default Web Sites IP # was not set to (All Unassigned). I was going to try a repair install from Add/Remove Programs but the temporary setup files are already gone. I really dont want to uninstall all 5 SQL components from Add/Remove Programs and start from scratch.
As good security practice we usually remove the Default Web or as in this development servers case we changed the IP from (All Unassigned) to an IP that is only accessible from certain machines on the internal network. I obviously should have read more pre setup guides. Anyway how can I fix this without reinstalling everything?
I have created a setup wizard for an application in vb.net and I tested in my system, it is working perfectly. But if i tried to install in another pc , the installation process go success, but once i open the new installed application, it is producing an error telling that it the applicatoin has encountered a problem and need to close it. im even not able to load the application. i will explain my project details below:
1 .It's a windows application and using connectivity to an sql cerver ce database (.sdf). 2. I removed all the default dataset and databinders from the program that i have written the coding for all connectivity. 3. im using system.data.sqlserverce for the connectivity
can anybody help me out please. the error is not producing in my system.
Im confused, whether it is required that the SQL server to be installed in the system or for .sdf files connectivity it is not required ? please advice me on both issues.
Hello all, I am following this tutorial: http://aspnet.4guysfromrolla.com/articles/040506-1.aspx for merging the membership data into an existing database and part of the tutorial tells you to run Microsoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727aspnet_regsql.exe which I've done. However now I am running into issues with retrieving a list of databases. The only instance of my databases are in Microsoft Visual Web Developer Express so I'm not sure if thats the issue or not. I have tried using my IP address, my computer name, and the database names in the Server field to no avail. Here is the error I am receiving; Failed to query a list of database names from the SQL server. An error occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to a SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server). Thanks for all of your help!
Hi, sorry but I am just getting my feet wet with the ADS wizard. I have managed to get the PPC emulator running the ADS wizard and have the emulator ActiveSync connected with desktop. Port 1024 opens from the emulator to the desktop. On the ADS wiz I can connect to the device .sdf. WHen I try to connect to the desktop I am getting a connection failure in the ADS wiz log and after stepping through the code VS watch window gives the following message for the SQL exception:
Message "Failure to open SQL Server with given connect string. [ connect string = Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:\Northwind.accdb; Jet OLEDBystem Database=C:\Documents and Settings\vhaporellinr.POR-EE778886\Application Data\Microsoft\Access\system.mdw ]" string
I do not know enough to know where to go next to move past this no-doubt simple problem. Can you direct me to the appropriate docs or refs to start digging into looking for solutions?
Is there a particular Northwind.mdb file that is supposed to be used?
Are we talking some kind of permissions issues on the database?
I was assuming I did not have to install SQL Server 2005 and the SQL Server management console(?) to do development with the SSCE. Is that correct?
THank you for any helping pointers you can provide.
When I install SQL Express I get a setup failure for the following: MSXML6-Setup Failed SQLServer Database Services-Setup Failed
I had SQL Express installed before and I remember having a little trouble uninstalling it at the time. My machine is a Dell Inspiron with 2GB RAM and a 60GB hard drive with 50GB available.

Installing SQl2005 into on Win2003 2 node cluster, at the very end of the setup receive a message 'Remote Setup failed'. Referred to some sql logs and found this; Error: Action "LaunchLocalBootstrapAction" threw an exception during execution. Error information reported during run: "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup Bootstrapsetup.exe" finished and returned: 1603 Aborting queue processing as nested installer has completed Message pump returning: 1603
I've seen some similar errors on the web and suggestions about the Task Scheduler being started on both nodes, but I ensured these were both started before the install. SQL2005 does seem to be ok on the node1 where the install was made, but fails when trying to failover to node 2.

The OWC11 setup failure is triggerring SQL DB Service installation to fail as well. Please help!!!
I have become frustrated and I am not finding the answers I expect.
Here's the gist, we support both Oracle and SQL for our product and we would like to migrate our Clients who are willing/requesting to go from Oracle to SQL. Seems easy enough.
So, I create a Database in SQL 2005, right click and select "Import Data", Source is Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle and I setup my connection. so far so good.
I create my Destination for SQL Native Client to the Database that I plan on importing into. Still good
Next, I select "Copy data from one or more tables or views". I move on to the next screen and select all of the Objects from a Schema. These are Tables that only relate to our application or in other words, nothing Oracle System wise.
When I get to the end it progresses to about 20% and then throws this error about 300 or so times:
Could not connect source component. Warning 0x80202066: Source - AM_ALERTS [1]: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the code page from the component's locale ID will be used.
So, I'm thinking "Alright, we can search on this error and I'm sure there's an easy fix." I do some checking and indeed find out that there is a property setting called "AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage" in the OLEDB Data Source Properties. Great! I go back and look at the connection in the Import and .... there's nothing with that property!
Back to the drawing board. I Create a new SSIS package and figure out quickly that the AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage is in there. I can transfter information from the Oracle Source Table to the SQL Server 2005 Destination Table, but it appears to be a one to one thing. Programming this, if I get it to work at all, will take me about 150 hours or so.
This make perfect sense if all you are doing is copying a few columns or maybe one or two objects, but I am talking about 600 + objects with upwards of 2 million rows of data in each!!
This generates 2 questions: 1. If the Import Data Wizard cannot handle this operation on the fly, then why can't the AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage property be shown as part of the connection 2. How do I create and SSIS Package that will copy all of the data from Oracle to SQL Server? The source tables have been created and have the same Schema and Object Names as the Source. I don't want to create a Data Flow Task 600 times.
I have XP Pro SP2 with MDAC 2.8.1022. It had a problem so I tried to reinstall MDAC and got a Fatal Setup Error. This setup does not support installing on this operating system. I downloaded MDAC 2.8 1177 and get the same error.
I thought of uninstalling/reinstalling SP2, but this is a 2 month old Dell Latitude 610 with factory installed XP. There is no Windows Service Pack 2 option listed in the Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
There's some other strange things, so I wonder if they are related.
1) I have Paul set up as an administrator account. Some folders like MSSQL show that account with no permissions. I grant all the permissions to Paul for that folder. I come back later and the permissions are gone.
2) I deleted 20 files in Explorer, but 7 of them did not go away. I deleted those 7 again and they instatnly reappeared. I deleted those 7 again and then they finally went away.
3) I get a slow reaction time for things like Windows Explorer and opening and closing programs. This is suprising since it has 2 gig of RAM and 2.3 Gig processor. Could it be a memory handling problem that's causing OS problems. Probably, the memory didn't handle the OS installation well and the whole system is compromised now.
We're doing upgrades from SQL 2008 R2 to SQL 2014. This is blocked due to RS is installed but not configured. Our desired action is to uninstall RS and proceed with the upgrade. But when setuparp.exe is raised, it does not list all the features on the 'Select Features' page. In fact, it only lists the last 2 shared features (SQ Client Connectivity SDK and Microsoft Sync Framework). However, all items appear to be listed on the 'Select Instance' page including RS. I've seen this issue on 2 of our SQL 2008 R2 Servers already.
I'm trying to install SQL Server Management studio 2012 on my Windows 7 (x64) standalone laptop. When I click "New SQL stand-alone installation..." it runs a Setup Support Rules check and always fails "Setup Account Privileges". I've looked into the error and I keep getting that I need to change security rules but I don't have that option in window 7. How do I get around this without having to resort to a computer running Windows Server?
I have Visual Studio 2013 premium installed along with Localdb v11. I just want to connect and manage my database engine through SSMS when developing any application.

I am running a number of SQL instances on my PC. Within the network, I have think server with various System Center components. For compatibility reasons, some features of System Center 2012 R2 had to be delegated to different SQL databases. My question is, because there is now more than one IP address on my system, and each instance of SQL is assigned to its own IP, is there a way to setup DNS and SQL so the namespace points to the desired IP address? For Instance:
MSSQL2008 instance is set to run on = 11.12.13.1 MSSQL2012 is set to run on = 11.12.13.2 IN DNS: A Record: Mike-PC = 11.12.13.1 A Record: Mike-PC = 11.12.13.2
If I want to use MSSQL2008 by specifying Mike-PC as the DNS name, how would I do that with 100% accuracy? If there is another way to get the job done, I am more than willing to approach this differently.

Has anyone ever experienced the SQL Server unexpectedly rebooting?
Yesterday my SQL Server 7 installation rebooted itself and the error log seemed fine as did the restart. The only evidence I can find was a message in the event viewer's application log stating the the MSSQLServer service terminated unexpectedly. Any ideas are appreciated.
I created a few DTS packages in our Test Server saving them as file.dts. When I try to open them in from the production server I get an Unexpected error and the DTS is not opened. Do you have any fresh idea for me, please? Thanks!! :)
/*********** Script 1 **************/ declare @nr_1 as decimal (10,2) declare @nr_2 as decimal (10,2) set @nr_1=5 set @nr_2=3 select round(@nr_1/@nr_2,0)
I've got a DTS package that runs an active-x script. The script issimple - it runs a stored procedure and saves the results to a CSVfile. I kept getting this error message when trying to run it sayingthat the recordset object I was using could not be used when closed.Well, it didn't make a whole lot of sense to me as to why that washappening, and it doesn't realte to my question except to give you asense of what I'm trying to do. After spending an inordinate amount oftime on that... I decided to just create a SQL Server connectionobject and an Excel Object and then use a transformation to load thequery results. Simple enough, or so I thought. So in thetransformation object under the Source tab, I typed in the query to runthe Stored Procedure:Declare @S nvarchar(30)Declare @E nvarchar(30)SET @S = Convert(nvarchar(30), GetDate()-1, 101) + ' 12 AM'SET @E = Convert(nvarchar(30), GetDate()-1, 101) + ' 11:59:59 PM'exec CTI_REPORT_Q_ACTIVITY_DETAIL @S, @EAnd then I clicked on the preview button. I got the message that norowset was returned. In a way, that explains the issue with theActive-X script. BUT, I know darn well it returns data. It returns438 rows of data when I run this in Query Analyser. So, here's my question....how could that be? Is there some issue thatDTS packages have with temporary tables? I do use a couple in theStored Procedure. Without having to post the stored procedure andtables, etc. could someone let me know if they've run into somethinglike this before? Thanks,Jennifer
If I have an SQL query which returns an aggregate of several decimal fieldslike so:(sum(COALESCE(myDecimal1, 0)+sum(COALESCE(myDecimal2, 0)+sum(COALESCE(myDecimal3, 0)) as MyTotalI get an rounded integer in MyTotal. However, if I do the following:sum(COALESCE(myDecimal1, 0)+COALESCE(myDecimal1, 0)+COALESCE(myDecimal1, 0)) as MyTotalI get a (proper) decimal value.Does anyone know why the first case returns an Integer?- Don
I posted this to microsoft.public.sqlserver.programming, but no onecould answer my question. So I think it is a good place to re-post myquestion here.My question:I found that if you do not include any effective SQL statement betweenBEGIN/END block, SQL Server 2000 Query Analyzer will think it is anerror:Server: Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 6Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'end'.if 1=1select getdate()elsebegin--select 'ok'endIs this behavior a SQL standard or simply a M$ standard glitch?
