Tiff File Corrupted After Reading From Blob Column

Apr 11, 2006

I use this code to get Tiff files from db , but output file seems to be corrupted :

Dim pubsConn As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection("Server=(local);uid=sa2;pwd=sony;database=pubs;")
        Dim logoCMD As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("SELECT pub_id, logo FROM pub_info", pubsConn)

        Dim fs As FileStream                 ' Writes the BLOB to a file (*.bmp).
        Dim bw As BinaryWriter               ' Streams the binary data to the FileStream object.

        Dim bufferSize As Integer = 100      ' The size of the BLOB buffer.
        Dim outbyte(bufferSize - 1) As Byte  ' The BLOB byte() buffer to be filled by GetBytes.
        Dim retval As Long                   ' The bytes returned from GetBytes.
        Dim startIndex As Long = 0           ' The starting position in the BLOB output.

        Dim pub_id As String = ""            ' The publisher id to use in the file name.

        ' Open the connection and read data into the DataReader.
        pubsConn.Open()
        Dim myReader As SqlDataReader = logoCMD.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior.SequentialAccess)

        Do While myReader.Read()
            ' Get the publisher id, which must occur before getting the logo.
            pub_id = myReader.GetString(0)

            ' Create a file to hold the output.
            fs = New FileStream("\Server1shared1logo" & "KK" & ".tiff", FileMode.OpenOrCreate, FileAccess.Write)
            bw = New BinaryWriter(fs)

            ' Reset the starting byte for a new BLOB.
            startIndex = 0

            ' Read bytes into outbyte() and retain the number of bytes returned.
            retval = myReader.GetBytes(1, startIndex, outbyte, 0, bufferSize)

            ' Continue reading and writing while there are bytes beyond the size of the buffer.
            Do While retval = bufferSize
                bw.Write(outbyte)
                bw.Flush()

                ' Reposition the start index to the end of the last buffer and fill the buffer.
                startIndex += bufferSize
                retval = myReader.GetBytes(1, startIndex, outbyte, 0, bufferSize)
            Loop

            ' Write the remaining buffer.
            bw.Write(outbyte, 0, retval - 1)
            bw.Flush()
            ' Close the output file.
            bw.Close()
            fs.Close()
        Loop

        ' Close the reader and the connection.
        myReader.Close()

Transact SQL :: Export BLOB (varbinary Max) Column To Excel Or CSV File?

May 20, 2015

I have a table in one of my databases that stores files in one of its columns. I need to be able to export this BLOB column into either a CSV or Excel file. I am forbidden from using xp_Cmdshell so I was wondering if there was a way to do this in the Cmd prompt.

Transact SQL :: Reading Text From BLOB / Varbinary Objects

Aug 26, 2015

We have an interface where we receive data from an external supplier. One of the fields in the interface is of type BLOB (the source is an Oracle database), which would be read into our MSSQL database as image. This can also be converted to varbinary, and a typical field value looks something like:

0x70697A5F8F000000789C0DCCBD0DC2301....etc. etc.

However, we know that the origin only contains text, and we even know the text from the GUI they supply us with. The text could typically be "Delayed by 3 minutes because of water damage" or something like that.

What I want to do, is to extract that text from the field.

First, I have stored the incoming data stream in a table, where one column is of type varbinary(max). It looks like this goes swell. But I don't know which command to use in order to get the text extracted.

I have tried these:

1) select master.dbo.fn_varbintohexstr(Myfield) from Mytable
-> Returns just the text "0x70697A5F8...." which I have no interest in

2) select cast(Myfield as varchar(max)) from Mytable
-> Returns just Chinese signs.

3) select cast(Myfield as nvarchar(max)) from Mytable
-> Returns just Chinese signs.

4) declare @ptrval varbinary(16)
select @ptrval = TEXTPTR(MyField) from MyTable   -- with MyField defined as image
READTEXT MyTable.MyField @ptrval 1 30
-> Returns just the text "0x697A5F8...." which I have no interest in

Of course, since only text is stored in this field, the field should never have been defined as BLOB in the first place. But the source system is external, and it's a standard system, so we may not alter it in any way.

Either Rendering Tiff Images In SRS Report Viewer Or Converting Tiff To Jpg Or Gif And Then Rendering

Jun 19, 2007

First of all, this is not in reference to using SRS (SQL Reporting Services) to render a report and then use one of the extensions to render the complete report as a pdf, tiff, excel etc. We have an opportunity to render a list of claims and then embed the supporting docs for each of the claims within the report. We don't have an issue referencing jpg and gif images via URLs and then rendering them within the report after the grid information. We do have an issue rendering tiff images within the report.

You can insert an image object into SRS at design time and have it render and you can convert a complete report to a tiff image but I cannot find a way to be able to render a tiff image when running the report. All you get is the red "x".

My question is has anyone encountered the same issue and, if so, what did you do to resolve the issue?

Thank you,

J Z

Reading A Text File With Fixed Length Column

May 11, 2008

Hi,

I would like to read from a Text File using SSIS Integration Package.

The file has a fixed number of columns, let's say 3 columns.
There is no row header and each columns length is fixed. There is no delimiter as well.

Here is the sample of the file contents:
John Doe USA
Mary Monroe UK
Andy Archibald Singapore

Here is the hints to read the file contents
123456789
0123456789
0123456789
==============================
John Doe USA
Mary Monroe UK
Andy Archibald Singapore

If you notice, from the 1st column until the 9th column, it's reserved for the first name.
The 10-th column until the 19th column, it's reserved for the last name. Finally the 20-th column until the 29th column is reserved for the Origin Country.

Since there's no delimiter inside the flat file contents, i have difficulty in parsing this text using SSIS Package.

Please let me know if you need any necessary information.

Thanks for all your help.

Regards,

Hadi Teo.

Recover A Corrupted LDF File

Jul 20, 2005

Recently, one of our database's mdf and ldf was corrupted. We were able tobring back the database with the capability of importing and querying thedata. However, the data is not the full list. Some of the data are stillmissing because the tables we want still has sone 'chain mis linkage' errorwhen we did a DBCC checkdb/checktable. DBCC couldn't fix those errorseither. We're pretty sure that there are some data still burry under thecorruption. Then we thought of the life LDF file. This file should haverecorded every transaction up to the point of failure. So we trying torecover that file, but there are 2 problems. First is we don't have back upof that file and 2nd, that file is also corrupted. I couldn't backup thecorrupted ldf file at its current state. It's giving me some unrelated errormessage like disk space is out. All I know now is the only hope to recoverthose missing data are in this LDF file. We tried to use this software fromLimingent Log Explorer to recover it. So far no such luck with that. SoI'm asking anyone who has similar experience or problem. Please let me know.I need to know anyway to recover this LDF file, either by using sql server'snative tools or 3rd party tools. Any input is helpfull. thanks in advance.Wei

Sum Of Column Of Blob Type

Apr 10, 2007

I have a column in my table that is an Image (blob). The data storedin this blob is basically pdf files. I need a query to determine thetotal size of these blob's in the database. Here is what ishappening, if I run it as below I get 23736000 for a result.select sum(datalength (cast(document AS binary(8000)))) fromplan_reportIf I run it like this select sum(datalength (cast(document ASvarbinary(8000)))) from plan_reportI get 23736000 also as a resultIf I run it like this select sum(datalength (cast(document ASvarbinary))) from plan_reportI get 89010 this as a resultIf I run this: select datalength(document) from plan_report then Iget a result for each row and when I sum those rows I get 5584452854this as a result.I do not believe the first 3 queries are returning correct result setsdue to the limit on the fields (binary/varbinary) and since this is animage field I cannot convert to anything else.....I am out of ideas, and any help you can give me will be greatlyappreciated...

Database Corrupted, Need Help Recovering Data From LDF File

May 9, 2007

A friend of mine called and said that his database was suspect and he detached it and was unable to attach it. The SQL Server Version is 2000 with the latest service packs installed. When I checked it the database (MDF) size was 1MB and the LDF size was 3.8 GB. I was not able to attach the two together and I was not able to attach the database using sp_attach_single_file_db. I did find an old backup of his database and attached that so he can work off of it but it is 1 yr old and he needs recent data. Since the MDF seemed to be blank we cant do much with that, but there seems to be data in the LDF. Is it possible to extract any data from the LDF file?

Extracting BLOB Into File System

May 1, 2014

I have read access to a database that appears to store files as "BLOBS".I am trying to create a VB macro that extracts the blob file to a location (lets say... my desktop) as an easy way of viewing the content of that file.

I am using Oracle SQL Developer with Read access to the database. The BLOBS can be located but I am unable to find a SQL string that will convert the blobs back into files located on my desktop.I can locate the blob in the database and obviously it appears appears as a text string. I have heard of two keywords: DBMS_LOB and UTL_File.I am not only new to databases but also new to storing files as strings in a database.

Analysis :: Corrupted Aggregation File On Process Index?

Feb 8, 2012

I trying to update my Aggregation Design for a partition using BIDS Helper.  The current aggregation design contains about 60 aggregations and the new aggregation I am trying to add is across 5 dimension attributes, the product of which is about 500,000 unique values.  The fact table is about 13,000,000 rows.

When I deploy the aggregation and run ProcessIndex, I get the follow error:

File system error: The following file is corrupted: Physical file: ?E:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSAS10_50.MSSQLSERVEROLAPDataTestDB.14.dbcube_2.607.cub
cubemeasuregroup_2.633.detDefaultPartition_2.579.prt852.agg.flex.data. Logical file.

If I remove the new aggregation, deploy, and run ProcessIndex again, it processes fine.

Is there some file size limitation I am running into?  The agg.flex.data file is 7.8 GB before adding the new aggregation, so it isn't subject to the same 4 GB limit as .asstore.

DB Design :: Log File Corrupted While Making Database Readonly

Jun 3, 2015

We have database when trying to make read only throwing below error: with stack dump

Location:              recovery.cpp:4517
Expression:         m_recoveryUnit->IsIntendedUpdateable ()
SPID:                     51
Process ID:          6448
Msg 926, Level 14, State 1, Line 1
Database 'XXXX' cannot be opened. It has been marked SUSPECT by recovery.

See the SQL Server errorlog for more information.
Msg 5069, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
ALTER DATABASE statement failed.
Msg 3624, Level 20, State 1, Line 1

A system assertion check has failed. Check the SQL Server error log for details. Typically, an assertion failure is caused by a software bug or data corruption. To check for database corruption, consider running DBCC CHECKDB. If you agreed to send dumps to Microsoft during setup, a mini dump will be sent to Microsoft. An update might be available from Microsoft in the latest Service Pack or in a QFE from Technical Support.

Msg 3313, Level 21, State 2, Line 1

During redoing of a logged operation in database 'XXXX', an error occurred at log record ID (0:0:0). Typically, the specific failure is previously logged as an error in the Windows Event Log service. Restore the database from a full backup, or repair the database.

Msg 3414, Level 21, State 1, Line 1

An error occurred during recovery, preventing the database 'XXXX' (database ID 7) from restarting. Diagnose the recovery errors and fix them, or restore from a known good backup. If errors are not corrected or expected, contact Technical Support.

Investigation DONE:

- DBcc checkdb shown Clean
- database is online and able to access
-Detached database and attached with rebuild log, still could not bring database read_only

SQL version : SQL server 2008 SP4.

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Re-balancing Blob And Lob Data In Multiple Files On Primary File Group

May 7, 2014

A little background on what I am trying to achieve first. We are moving to Azure virtual machines and we will have 8 disks on the SQL Server box. I am adding more files to the primary file group and each file will go on its own drive. I am then rebalancing data across these files by rebuilding all of the indexes on the tables which is working fine. No problems so far all is good.

I now have an additional problem. If there is a lob or blob column on the table, rebuilding the clustered index and all the non clustered indexes doesn't rebalance the blob or lob data across the disks such as it does with in row data.

I cannot find any articles on rebalancing lob or blob data because all the articles say to move to a new file group. I do not want a new file group, I just want to use the primary file group where the data already resides, and just redistribute it evenly in the same way that I can in row data which is working fine.

One solution I thought about was to BCP data out of the table, truncate the table and then BCP back into the table which I imagine would have the desired effect of distributing the data evenly over the files.
