Timeout Error When Executing SQL Command From The Script Task

Apr 18, 2008

The SQL query takes about 4 minutes to execute in SQL Management Studio. But when I run it from the Script Task using the OleDBCommand, I got the timeout error in 40 seconds. The timeout setting on the SSIS DB connection is 0. I do not see how to set the timeout for an SSIS task. Any thoughts on this problem? TIA.

SQL Express Timeout Error When Executing A View

Apr 17, 2007

I get the following error message:

SQL Exectution error,

Exectuted SQL statement: SELECT...

Source: .Net SqlClient data provider

Message: Timeout expired, timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation...

The view is operating on a table of ~250,000 records. The timeout occurs after 45 seconds, and none of the changes I make to the various timeout settings in the server or database seem to affect this.

When I execute the same sql statement in a query window it does complete, requiring about 7 minutes to execute.

How can I configure the view not to timeout when executing this query?

Timeout Error While Executing Oracle Function

Jan 11, 2007

Hi,

I have developed reports for Oracle database. I wanted to avoid use of OUT REF cursor hence am using function & calling it from reports.

The logic in SP/function is so complex that it takes 5 mins to execute n get the result. I see the results on the report server, But when I call that report from web application, I get System.Net.WebException - Time out error.

My questions:

1. What setting I make on report server to avoid timeout?

--Are these settings applied on report server restart?

2. Is there any setting needed for Datasource also?

TIA

Execute SQL Task: Executing The Query Exec (?) Failed With The Following Error: Syntax Error Or Access Violation. Possible F

Hi,
I'm having an SSIS package which gives the following error when executed :

Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.Task failed: Create Linked Server

The package has a single Execute SQL task with the properties listed below :

General Properties
Result Set : None

ConnectionType : OLEDB
Connection : Connected to a Local Database (DB1)
SQLSourceType : Direct Input
SQL Statement : exec(?)
IsQueryStorePro : False
BypassPrepare : False

Parameter Mapping Properties

User::AddLinkSql Input Varchar 0

'AddLinkSql' is a global variable of package scope of type string with the value
Exec sp_AddLinkedServer 'Srv1','','SQLOLEDB.1',@DataSrc='localhost',@catalog ='DB1'

When I try to execute the Query task, it fails with the above error. Also, the above the sql statement cannot be parsed and gives error "The query failed to parse. Syntax or access violation"

I would like to add that the above package was migrated from DTS, where it runs without any error, eventhough
it gives the same parse error message.

I would appreciate if anybody can help me out of this issue by suggeting where the problem is.

Thanks in Advance.

Custom Data Flow Task Throwing Error When Run From Command Prompt

Jan 17, 2007

Hi,

I developed a custom data flow task in .net 2.0 using Visual Studio 2005. I installed it into GAC using GACUTIL and also copied it into the pipeline directory. This task runs absolutely fine when I run it on my local machine both in BIDS and using the script in windows 2000 environment. However, when I deployed this package into a windows 2003 server, the package fails at the custom task level. I checked the GAC in windowsassembly directory and it is present. Also I copied the file into the PipeLine directory and verified that I copied it into the correct pipeline directory by checking the registry. The version of the assembly is still Debug. I looked up documentation in MSDN but there is very little information about the errors I am seeing.

The error I get is pasted below, Can somebody please help me as I am currently stuck and running out of ideas to fix this problem.

Strange Timeout Problem When Executing Stored Proc

Jul 27, 2004

We have a stored procedure that will return at most about 600 records. In almost all cases it works fine, but in a few odd cases the command times out when used from a webform. We changed the CommandTimeout property to 120 seconds... no difference. If we run a query that times out in Query Analyzer, it runs in under 3 seconds (on the SQL Server machine). We also did a lot of profiling, and for any page that runs fine, the query takes about the same time when called from a webform and run in the Query Analyzer.
We ran our tests on the pre-production environment with absolutely no one else on the machines. We also created a test page that just fills a DataSet. Straightforward... get connection object, create command, set params, create data adapter, fill dataset. It suffers the same problem.

The web server and SQL server are two separate machines. Oh, and before I forget... This is SQL 2000. It used to run SQL 7, and all the queries there were (slightly) slower, but none timed out, not even the ones that do now.

Maybe the first question should be:
How can it be that a query that runs fine in Query Analyzer times out from a webform?

Command Timeout

Mar 11, 2008

Hi All,
I have an application on asp.net framework 1.1 and accessing the ms sql server 2000.I like to stop the execution of some queries if it exceeds a pre defined limit.
I was reading about this and learned that we can do this by setting the command.commandtimeout=value.
THis is  the code i am using to test this-Dim conn1 As SqlConnection
Dim sqlcmd1 As StringDim cmd1 As SqlCommand
Dim StrConn As StringDim dr As SqlDataReader
StrConn = ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings("ConnectionString")

sqlcmd1 = "Select * from table"conn1 = New SqlConnection(StrConn)cmd1 = New SqlCommand(sqlcmd1, conn1)

conn1.Open()
cmd1.CommandTimeout = 1
Response.Write(cmd1.CommandTimeout.ToString)
dr = cmd1.ExecuteReader()Do While dr.Read
Response.Write(dr("id") & vbNewLine)
Loop
conn1.Close()
conn1 = Nothing
dr.Close()

Now ,the sql statment -select * from table takes more than 40 seconds when i excute this in the sql query analyser.As you see in the code,i want to stop processing the code if it exceeds more than 1 second.
But this doesnt work..and the query gets executed and write the data on the web page.
Any help on this?why this is not working?Is there any settings that I need to change in the machine.config?

Thanks in advance.

SQL Command Timeout Problems

May 22, 2008

We're running an ASP.NET 2.0 website which connects via a local connection string (192.168.1.5) to a SQL 2005 database.   There is only one database on the server.  The application has been running smoothly for months but has recently started receiving command timeout errors.  The error follows:
Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
From what I’ve read online, people suggest increasing the command timeout parameter, but I don’t think that’s the solution to our problem.  Our website only uses 22 different SPROCS on the front-end, and only a few of them retrieving anything sizeable.  What’s more, these stored procedures run in under a second under normal circumstances.
Our hosts tell me that there is very high I/O activity on the server.  There were 20,000 writes to TempDB in a 30-second period for instance.  What exactly would cause that level of writes to the DB?  It’s also odd that this problem only happens intermittently.  For instance, we’ve been receiving these errors to the tune of 1-5 per three hour period.
Does anyone have an idea what we should look at to determine what the TempDB would be getting hit so hard?
Thanks,
Brad

Command Timeout In Web Config

Nov 10, 2003

I'm having timeout issues with a few stored procedures which do calculations and take a while to return data (like 2-3 minutes).

I'm getting timeouts when I try to run them in my asp.net page.

From my research it seems that I need to increase the Command Timeout setting. I'm storing my connection string in my web.config file and I can't seeem to get the syntax correct for increasing the command timeout setting.

Can someone show my how it's done.

My connection string (from web.config):

<appSettings>
<add key="DataGold" value="server=localhost;uid=datauser;pwd=qu3ry;database=DataGold" />
</appSettings>

TIA.

Error : Timeout Expired. The Timeout Period Elapsed...

Nov 10, 2006

Hi,I
get this error from our web application every once in a while. " Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding". I email
myself when an error occurs, and once every 2-3 days I get this timeout
error emails, like 5-10 emails in a span of few minutes. Then it goes
away. I have set the command timeout for 60 secs.
It
doesn't happen from the same stored procedure, actually I have seen it
timeout from really simple 1 or 2 line stored procedures, which shouldn't normally take 1 sec. Its like
sql server just shuts down for few minutes. We have some
backups and maintenance jobs scheduled, but they run only after
midnight. I have checked the
application event viewer, there are no warnings or
error messages for MSSQLSERVER. Can
any one tell me how to check whats going on during that short timespan
when timeout error occurs, and what causes it? I don't want to run sql
profiler continuously for 2-3 days, I am afraid it will slow down the
server more. Thanks.

Context Connection And Command Timeout

Feb 6, 2008

Hello,

I'm using a context connect inside a CLR stored procedure. The CommandTimeout property has no functionality when used with a context connection. See remarks in this url:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.data.sqlclient.sqlcommand.commandtimeout.aspx

This is a problem for me because I'm at times call a link server that has been known to wait indefinitely. I've tried using a regular conneciton that supports command timeouts within my CLR stored procedure but I get a permissions error (Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0,0, Culture=neutral failed.)

How can I prevent my CLR stored procedure from waiting indefinitely?

Package Executing As SQL Service Job Vs Command Line

Jan 8, 2008

I see a weird behaviour when the package is executed as a SQL Server job and via command line. The package has environment variables configured. So when I run the package via a command line it picks up the user environment variables and gets executed fine with success. But when the package is scheduled as a job, it fails as it is not picking up environment variables. Does the SQL server has to be restarted to pick up the environment variables? I dont understand the reason of not picking up the environment variables when the package is run as a job. The job runs as the same user as the command line and the user variables are set for the environment variables. The logging is enabled on the package and I can see that it is logging as the same user even if its command line execution or executed as a job. Could you please anyone can explain why the package fails as a job and doesnt fail via command line. I am fighting with this for a long time.

Does anyone have an example of a script that calls a command?

OLE DB Source Executing SQL Command Multiple Times

Jan 2, 2008

Happy new year everyone!!!

Ok, now for my not so happy new year problem ... here's the scenario:

I have a simple task of exporting data retrieved by a parameterized stored procedure to a delimited text file ... task done in 30 mins max using dataflow task from OLE DB Source with SQL Command to Text File Destination ... thank you very much SSIS!

But the problem is the OLE DB Source executed the SP MULTIPLE TIMES (3 to be exact)
Actually configuration is:

1. OLE DB Source
2. SQL Command access mode
3. The following command written in the command text box:

SET FMTONLY OFF;
exec sp_SampleSP @param1=?, @param2=?
4. Configured parameter mapping.

The stored procedure logs to a database table everytime it is executed to report how many rows were selected (please don't crucify me with this method, i'm re-using procs from old system). The log shows that during execution of this package the SP was executed on 3 times.

Help anyone? Please ...
