To Create Unique Table Names And Access Them In Code...

Hi all,
My program is a central data processing application built in ASP.
We have different companies that use different web pages on another web
application (from different countries) to load some inventory data
(merchandise - clothes).
Here is my requirement: Load different types of data (in different
formats) into a common set of tables, to do this I have to first
filter, do lookup's, use cross-reference tables on this data and then
load it into a couple of tables.
Since data is so different everytime, I want to have one main stored
procedure in which I can build the table (I know the format of this
data so I know what columns/types to create) into which I will feed the
data.
After this I will create other stored procs/udf's that reference this
table (probably from the same main stored proc) 'cleanse' the data
before loading into the actual tables.
How feasible is my approach? (if you can call it one :-) I do not want
to have seperate tables for each country, that will be too many and so
this plan...
If not any other ideas will be really helpful.

Greetings!I am now doing one type of analysis every month, and wanted to creattable names in a more efficient way.Here is what happens now, everytime I do the analysis, I will create atable called something like customer_20050930, and then update thetable by using several update steps. Then next month I will create atable called customer_20051031. Does anyone know if there is a betterway to do it? like using a macro variable for the month-end date? Noweverytime I have to change the table name in every single update step,which would cause errors if I forget to change one of them. By using amacro, I would only need to change it once.Thanks!

Hi there,
I am trying to create a list of all the tables in one database and then list the size of each table. So for example I want to create a table with the table name and table size for one DB
E.g
Table1 1111KB
Table2 123300MB
Table3 120448KB
etc for all the tables in a particukar DB
I know there is a stored procedure to list the sizes: 'sp_spaceused' but not sure how to script all this together.
can anyone help please!!

Hello All.
You may find below script stupid to you. I am trying to create a table with week number that is not fixed, i.e. March 2006 may have 4 weeks and April 5 weeks based on our company calendar.
And Field Names could be Grp, SubGrp, Week_10, Week_11, Week_12, Week_13 depending on the week being stored in TempWeekFile. We could start the month having only Week 10 and following week with Week 11 added into TempWeekFile.
My below script shows error. I have following records in my TempWeekFile
Week_No WeekCnt
10 1
11 2
12 3
13 4
How to write a script that do the above? Has anyone done this using a better method? Please advise. Thank you.

My DB contains company names repeating themselves several times (in the same column).
Can I create a new table that shows only the distinct names, and use it to work with the data?
My intention is to allow my users to choose only from the options within the DB (mimic in a way the list validation option in excel)

I am looking to create a script that will go through a table a pick out the necessary columns to create a unique record. Some of the tables that I am working with have 200 plus columns and I am not sure if I would have to list every column name in the script or if they could be dynamically referenced. I am working with a SQL server that has little next to no documentation and everytime I type to mere some tables, I get too many rows back.

I am building a Visual Sudio process that will Truncate and load data to an Access database (2010) from SQL Server (2012). I have one "Execute SQL Task" for one table (LungCancer_HF_Patients):
"DELETE LungCancer_HF_Patients.* FROM LungCancer_HF_Patients;" that parses and works.
I have another table (Report1):
"DELETE Report1.* FROM Report1;"
that does not parse with a message "The query failed to parse. Incorrect syntax near '*'."
Why the first one parses correctly and the other one does not?

I am not sure I understand the problem I am causing, but I am a beginner!
Here's the situation: I have a table located on MS SQL server database number 1. Said table, which we'll call WIDGET_PRICES, is accessed regularly by my existing source code and has no problems.
At some point, I decide to move operations to MS SQL database number 2 and do a very simple database copy of WIDGET_PRICES from database 1 to database 2 using the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
The end result, inevitably, is that my source code can no longer access the very same table as it is located on the new database server. The code hasn't changed, it's still trying to access WIDGET_PRICES as always. And, from what I see on my screen through Management Studio, WIDGET_PRICES appears just fine.
An example error is the one I just got:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e37'
Invalid object name 'YB_ITEMS'.

The only clue is that while my transferred tables often look named like "database1.WIDGET_PRICES on database 1, they wind up looking like database2.WIDGET_PRICES on dabase 2.

Hi,
I'm about to embark on writing some code in perl or VBscript that automatically synchronises a constantly updated Access database with an MSSQL database.
I know MSSQL has an import tool built into Enterprise manager but I'm wondering if theres a stored procedure that does this?
The way I'm thinking of doing it is to read the all the access tables into separate hash arrays and then INSERTing them into the MSSQL database after checking for any duplicates. This all sounds a bit time consuming (there are a large number of tables) and processor intensive.
If anyones done anything like this before, I'd love to hear their views......!

I am in a situation where I need to find out unique field names with different values in a table having 200+ columns.
Let's say I have two rows with 200+ columns ( I exported these rows from Lotus Notes to SQL Server) I am not sure what columns makes unique of these rows. It's going to be tedious by checking each column values.
Is there anyway I can write a squl query on these two rows which outputs column names which are having unique values.
I would appreciate If anybody gives me hint about achieving desired result

I am designing a package to export staging tables into a flat file.The names of the tables will be: TableAStaging_YYYYMM and TableBStaging_YYYYMM. As you can see the names of the tables will be changing each month.
The flat files will have similar naming: C:MyPathFlatFileTableAStaging__YYYYMM and C:MyPathFlatFileTableAStaging__YYYYMM.I want to run the package as an sql job in two steps, one for each table.I need to dynamically pass the table names and file names (together with the path) to the IS package.

We need to insert data/rows from a SQL Server 2014 database into MS Access database. The problem is, there are so many columns (100+) in the table and there are so many insert transactions of this kind (from different tables) that it is not very easy to write the code in VB.NET that lists all column names.
Both the Access and SQL Server tables have the same number of columns and the equivalent data types, so inserting is not really the problem. It's just that is there a way to do an insert statement in T-SQL that does not name all the columns?

Hi Guys,
I am trying to insert a unique code, like a voucher code, into a table in MSSQL, 10 numbers (0-9) which obviously needs to be unique.
I can code this in ASP, but I think the process could be a bit long winded, i.e. create a key - run a stored procedure to see if it is free if not loop and check again. Surely there would be a way to do this in a stored procedure in one?
So the code would look like 3928492834.
1. Generate Key in SQL
2. Check if not used in column 'kcode' if it is, regenerate and check again.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I know how to do this in ASP but bit of a SQL newbie!

I'm trying to select the maximim value for certain zip codes, for example my table looks like this:

And I want the end result to be each unique zip code with the category having the maximum value, for example 90210 S2, 10221 S1, etc

I know that each of those product_codes will return a large data set. What I'd like to do is to run the same query but constrain the result set to a max rownum of 200.

I'm trying to do an update query that looks like this:
UPDATE
PAEMPLOYEE
SET PAEMPLOYEE.LOCAT_CODE = EMPLOYEE.PROCESS_LEVEL

JOIN EMPLOYEE B ON A.EMPLOYEE = B.EMPLOYEE
It's erroring out on the Employee prefix B.EMPLOYEE saying:
..."does not match with a table name or alias name used in the query"
Is it wrong or will it cause problems to have a field name the same as the table name?

I have a comma separated field containing numerous 2 digit numbers that I would like splitting out by a corresponding unique code held in another field on the same row.
E.g

These needs to be in column format or held in an array to be used as conditional criteria.

Hi all,I might be getting this all wrong but bear with me.
I need to create some kind of Unique field in my DB that is
nonsequential. This is because I need it to be difficult to guess
ids if you have an example in front of you.I have looked at
8digit EAN codes which include a check digit system.( I use a base digit of the row_id for these) Can anyone tell me
how many uniques I can get out of this system?For my ID: I have looked at something along the lines of:
Hex(row_id) + "T" + Hex( Trimmed(EAN)
)
The "T" serves to split the numbers for when I am converting back.
So for example:row_id EAN_code Hex(row_id) + "T" + Hex( Trimmed(EAN) )

Is this too easy to guess (once you can tell there are two hex numbers there?)

I am attempting to create a unique constraint on an nvarchar field named theology (it is not the primary key field)
that allows nulls. The table contains multiple rows with the value of null for
field theology. The documentation says one can create a unique constraint on a
field with all unique value except for null. Here is the error message:

ODBC error: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]CREATE UNIQUE INDEX
terminated because a duplicate key was found. Most significant primary key
is ''.

previous errors.
Any ideas? I am creating a unique constraint and not a unique index. Is there
some other database option to set to allow this?

I have a table where the key is an autonumber. I also have a field which holds the reference of a room eg 0BM1. It is nvarchar. Is there a way I can set this field to duplicates = No, so that my user cannot enter the same room reference more than once. Or do I have to do this check in my asp.net code ?

im running an INSERT statement and I need one of the fields (RecordID) to be automatically generated.
Its a unique identifier type.
