I have a database which gets its daily feed from a ftp file. Now is there any way i can figure out the empty tables in the databese which doesnot get any data on the feed.

I was trying this:

Did not work.
My file names are the same as the filgroup names containing the file, this is why I was joining by name.

When creating my database I have modeled some of the tables after the Adventureworks sample database.
There are some fields or entire tables in Adventureworks that I do not see an imediate use for, however; I would hate to ommit them to find out later they would have been benificial. (.eg territory table).
In general terms what would the impact be on size and performance of a database which contains tables or fields that do not contain data.

I am trying to create a data dictionary for a huge application which has aroung 300 tables in the database....when i perform any operation in the application some tables are updated.... can you help me to find out how can we find out the last updated tables in the database ??
I need to find all tables which has a join (either inside an sp, view, etc) with my given table in a db.
sys.dm_sql_referencing_entities doesn't work here.
Note: i dont want to identify by FK References, for 2 reasons:
1) tables might not met with a join (just FK was defined)
2) sometimes, a join happened between tables, without an FK defined

I have databases that have zero keys defined, no foreign key constraints, no unique value constraints. I cannot assume that an Identity column is the Id. The end game is be able to output that [Table 1].[TableTwoId] = [Table 2].[Id] but cannot assume that all linkage in the database will be as simple as saying "if the field name contains a table name + Id then it is the Id in that table."
Currently have written a script that will cycle through all columns and start identifying keys in singular tables based on the distinctness of the values in each column (i.e. Column1 is 99% distinct so is the unique value). It will also combine columns if the linkage is the combination of one or more columns from Table 1 = the same number of columns in Table 2. This takes a long time, and it somewhat unreliable as IDENTITY columns may seem to relate to one another when they don't.

When i use the Lookup transform it cannot find the ColorKeyPK
The result of the Lookup transform is.

I have created some dynamic sql to check a temporary table that is created on the fly for any columns that do contain data. If they do the column name is added to a dynamic sql, if not they are excluded. This looks like:

However, I am currently running this on over 230 columns and large tables 1.3 mil rows and it is quite slow. How I can dynamically create a sql script that only selects the columns in the table where there is data in a speedier manner. Unfortunately it has to be on the fly because the temporary table is created on the fly.

But there is one flaw - Is there any way of hiding an empyt table?

I want to return a list of user tables from a database where the rowcount is 0. This will be a 3 step process: (1) truncate all 'New%' tables, (2) load data via ODBC/DTS into 'New%' tables, (3) list all 'New%' tables with zero rows (i.e. those that didn't get loaded, as all tables in the ODBC data source contain data).
I've tried:

I would like to empty out my 2k8 database (remove all the data in the tables only) And reloaded it with the data from production (2k5). I know I would have to dis-enable any constraints, triggers and remove all indexes before I can run a Truncate/Delete on all tables correct And then import the data via Wizard or script And lastly enable all the constraints & triggers, rebuild the indexes. Is this the only way to go about this? I don't want to do a backup & restore because the 2k5 doesn't have a 20% of the tables that are in 2k8. The 20% of those tables in 2k8 i'm not going to remove.

I'm running a master package executing 8 child packages.
Each package contains the same connection managers and each package is stored within the MSDB database.
The master package executes the packages stored in the MSDB using the 'execute package task'.
When running the master package from either MSDB or visual studio directly the odd thing happens that some tables will be filled, but after package execution I notice each table to be empty. There's no rollback 'procedure 'specified within the package and each package executes successfully because of error row handling. Anybody any hints how to solve this one?

We have a couple of clients we support running MS SQL, and as a rule, all db access is by SP and select statements.
However, we noticed earlier today, that a newly created account was empty. All columns except the users columns had been deleted.
1. Is there a way of checking which user account deleted the columns ?
2. Or finding out what went wrong ?

I have this complex logical model with 60 tables which i have converted to phycical model and into sql 7.0 database now the database is completely new for a new internet project without even single row of data now i have to optimise database and determine if the indexes created by the the designing team are good in sql 7.0 will the give me optimised database or not . I have an interesting problem. I am unable to see any database triggers in the Database Triggers folder under programmability in SQL 2005. I have been able to create and alter triggers in the database that function exactly as their supposed to, yet they never show up as visible in the Triggers folder. I would love for one of the luminaries on this forum to share some wisdom with me and let me know what setting is the culprit. It is driving me batty.

Greetings! I just found this group after wasting hours trying to make
SSRS work with databases that are already created (that is, the DBA
created two empty databases for me, X and XTempDB).
I keep getting "this connection string is invalid can't use this to
connect to SQL Server" in the Database Setup tab.
The problem is that to create its own database, SSRS needs dbcreator
and securityadmin roles (please correct me if I'm wrong here). And I'm
having a helluva problem trying to convince the DBA to give me
temporary dbcreator and securityadmin roles!
Is there any document or
something that I can use to convince him that SSRS will not do
anything like recreating the login (because he said that the login has
already existed and has its role set up in many other databases)?
Any help, pointers, suggestions, etc. is very much appreciated.
