Too Short Keywords Does Not Work Under Full-Text Functionality

Nov 6, 2007

Hi, I am novice to Full-Text funcationality.

The problem I met is that SQL server seems not woring with too short keywords (with FREETEXT syntax). The following is the detailed description.

I index two columns, JobDes(ntext) and JobTitle(nvarchar), which mainly store Traditional Chinese(Big5). If I search with
select * from JobWanted where FREETEXT(JobTitle,'asp'), it goes well. But if I replace the 'asp' with 'as', nothing returns. What is the reason? Can I eliminate this limination?

Any help would be appreciated.
Ricky.

Hi All

I have a problem getting the full-text search service working on my SQL Express install.

I can see the "SQL Server FullText Search" service running in the SQL Server CM but when I run:
select fulltextserviceproperty('isfulltextinstalled') it returns false.

Can anyone explain what I must of missed or point me in the right direction?

Thanks

SQL Server 2014 :: Semantic Search Not Finding Keywords Identified By Full-Text Search?

Nov 6, 2014

I have a scenario of where the standard Full-Text search identifies keywords but Semantic Search does not recognize them as keywords. I'm hoping to understand why Semantic Search might not recognize them. The context this is being used in medical terminology and the specific key words I noticed missing right off the bat were medications.

For instance, if I put the following string into a FT indexed table

'J9355 - Trastuzumab (Herceptin)'
AND
'J9355 - Trastuzumab emtansine'

The Semantic Search recognized 'Herceptin' and 'Emtansine' but not 'Trastuzumab'

Nor in

'J8999 - Everolimus (Afinitor)'

It did not recognize 'Afinitor' as a keyword.

In all cases the Base of Full-Text did find those keywords and were identifiable using the dmvsys.dm_fts_index_keywords_by_document.It does show the index as having completed.

why certain words might not be picked up while others would be? Could it be a language/dictionary issue? I am using English and accent insensitive settings?

Full Text Search - Conatins Doesnot Work

Feb 12, 2004

Our SQL Server 2000 (sp1) on a Windows 2000 system is configured for a full text search.

The ntext column having a full text index has a value as follows:

Rob Proctor's Tips: Creating a "Tropical" Get-Away At Home

when I search it by

SELECT NTEXT_COL
FROM FULL_TEXT_TABLE
WHERE CONTAINS(NTEXT_COL, N'"Tropical Get Away"')

it displays the result as

NTEXT_COL
======================================
Rob Proctor's Tips: Creating a "Tropical" Get-Away At Home

But the query

SELECT NTEXT_COL
FROM FULL_TEXT_TABLE
WHERE CONTAINS(NTEXT_COL, N'"Tropical Get Aw*"')

do not return any rows..

Can anybody give me the reason for this behaviour, or is it a known bug?

Thanks

Full-text Indexing Doesn't Work For Pdf Files

Oct 26, 2007

I have SQL 2005 on 64 bit cluster OS is Windows server 2003 SP2.
We have full-text enabled on one table of the database. It has doc,xls,pdf and swf type of documents. Now full text works for word and excel docs but not for pdf files.

I searched online and found two commands to execute after installing Adobe 6.0 ifilter. I did it last week and then server was rebooted last weekend so it restarted all the services
exec sp_fulltext_service 'load_os_resources', 1

exec sp_fulltext_service 'verify_signature', 0

still pdf full text search is not working. Does this ifilter from Adobe works for 64 bit?

many errors as below are loged into the log file

Full-text Indexing Doesn't Work For CSV Files.

Nov 21, 2007

I am able to perform full text searches if I inform SQL Server the file is a text file but when I set the correct type as a csv the file does not get indexed.

Also nocticed that I have two IFilters one that comes with SQL and the other with Office they have the same name and just the one that is on system32 handles CSV files, office files are processed correctly.

This are the IFilter locations:
C:WINDOWSsystem32offfilt.dll
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.4MSSQLBinnofffilt.dll

I have a valid CSV but when I run the FiltDump.exe command I get:
C:Temp>FiltDump 1075555.csv
FILE: 1075555.csv
Error 0x80030050 loading IFilter

This is the type of error log I get from SQL Server:

UserSort Functionality Does Not Work As Expected.

Adding A Full Text Search Across Multiple Tables (with Text Fields)

Sep 7, 2007

Hi, i'm trying to do a full text search on my site to add a weighting score to my results.  I have the following database structure:
Documents: - DocumentID (int, PK) - Title (varchar) - Content (text) - CategoryID (int, FK)
Categories: - CategoryID (int, PK) - CategoryName (varchar)
I need to create a full text index which searches the Title, Content and CategoryName fields.  I figured since i needed to search the CategoryName field i would create an indexed view.  I tried to execute the following query:
CREATE VIEW vw_DocumentsWITH SCHEMABINDING ASSELECT dbo.Documents.DocumentID, dbo.Documents.Title, dbo.Documents.[Content], dbo.Documents.CategoryID, dbo.Categories.CategoryNameFROM dbo.Categories INNER JOIN dbo.Documents ON dbo.Categories.CategoryID = dbo.Documents.CategoryID
GOCREATE UNIQUE CLUSTERED INDEX vw_DocumentsIndexON vw_Documents(DocumentID)
But this gave me the error:
Cannot create index on view 'dbname.dbo.vw_Documents'. It contains text, ntext, image or xml columns.
I tried converting the Content to a varchar(max) within my view but it still didn't like.
Appreciate if someone can tell me how this can be done as surely what i'm trying to do is not ground breaking.

SQL Server 2000 Full Text Search (extract Pieces Of Text)

Sep 12, 2007

Hello everyone !
I want to perform Full Text Search with SQL Server 2000. My documents (.doc, .xls, .txt, .pdf) are stored in a SQL Server field which is binary (the type of the column is image).
I would like to know, how you can extract pieces of text from the documents.
Example:
I have a ASPX page with codebehind in C# making the search in a table in SQL server that is full text indexed.
I make a search looking for the word "peace", than SQL server will take care about the search and return it to me the rows that match with that. But also I'd like to extract the 50 characters before and after where sql server found the word "peace" to show in the result page.
Does anyone has any idea how to work around it ?
 Best regards.
Yannick

Searching Database Text W/o Using Full-text Indexing

Mar 31, 2004

I am using the following plumbing code to search a database column for a keyword. I can't use full-test indexing so I came up w/ this work around. But It has many flaws so I'm looking for a better way. Thx in advance.

'Open sql connection
SqlConnection1.Open()

Dim datareader2 As SqlClient.SqlDataReader
datareader2 = cmdFindRowsWithKeyword.ExecuteReader
Dim strMsg As String
Dim intRowToFlag As Integer
Dim strRowsToGet As String
Dim strKeywordAsTyped As String
Dim strKeywordAllCaps As String
Dim strKeywordAllLower As String
Dim strKeywordFirstLetterCap As String
Dim FirstLetter As String

While datareader2.Read

intRowToFlag = datareader2(0).ToString
strMsg = datareader2(1).ToString

'Assign keyword as typed to variable
strKeywordAsTyped = txtSearchFor.Text
'Assign keyword as typed to variable then convert it to all uppercase
strKeywordAllCaps = txtSearchFor.Text
strKeywordAllCaps = strKeywordAllCaps.ToUpper
'Assign keyword as typed to variable then convert it to all lowercase
strKeywordAllLower = txtSearchFor.Text
strKeywordAllLower = strKeywordAllLower.ToLower
'Assign keyword as typed to variable then convert it so just the first letter is in uppercase
strKeywordFirstLetterCap = txtSearchFor.Text
FirstLetter = strKeywordFirstLetterCap.Chars(0)
FirstLetter = FirstLetter.ToUpper
strKeywordFirstLetterCap = strKeywordFirstLetterCap.Remove(0, 1)
strKeywordFirstLetterCap = strKeywordFirstLetterCap.Insert(0, FirstLetter)

'If the string contains the keyword as typed in all caps all lowercase or w/ the 1st letter in caps then flag that row.
If strMsg.IndexOf(strKeywordAsTyped) <> -1 Or strMsg.IndexOf(strKeywordAllCaps) <> -1 Or strMsg.IndexOf(strKeywordAllLower) <> -1 Or strMsg.IndexOf(strKeywordFirstLetterCap) <> -1 Then

cmdFlagRowsWithKeyword.Parameters("@recid").Value = intRowToFlag
SqlConnection2.Open()
Dim datareader3 As SqlClient.SqlDataReader
datareader3 = cmdFlagRowsWithKeyword.ExecuteReader
datareader3.Close()
SqlConnection2.Close()

End If
End While
datareader2.Close()

'PK_problem' is not a valid index to enforce a full-text search key. A full-text search key must be a unique, non-nullable, single-column index which is not offline, is not defined on a non-deterministic or imprecise nonpersisted computed column, and has maximum size of 900 bytes. Choose another index for the full-text key.

also I tried the wizard in the managment express but it does not have a option when I right click on the table for Full-Text Index

Ntext && Text Storage - How Do These Work?

Nov 28, 2004

Howdy,

Can some one please explain how the storage of a huge text or ntext object ( say a string of characters 100 KB in size ) is carried out please?

With a data page maximum size of 8000 bytes, how does SQL handle the storage of such an string - it would obviously obverlap multiple rows etc.
Does the application writing it to the database have to split the object over multiple rows and manually keep track of which bit is in which row so it can be re-created later in correct sequence by adding the bits back together, or is it done some how differently?

Any help most welcome as this is a bit confusing.

Cheers,

SG.

Work Around To Display RTF Text In RDLC?

Apr 18, 2008

Hi,

We had come a long way in implementing reports using RDLC and now we are stuck with the requirement to display RTF text using RDLC.

Is there a way to display a RTF Text in RDLC in a purely managed code?

The links mentioned below provides a work around solution to this but a part of its implementation is in un-managed code.
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=551939&SiteID=1

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=738557&SiteID=1

Iam also curious to know if Microsoft has released a patch or service pack that supports RTF in RDLC?

Iam using .NET 3.0 with SP1 and my backend is MS-SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.

Thanks & Regards

Hi,
I have a SQL statement that works great when I don't use a SQL Parameter, but when I do it just takes the @Searchfor as literal text "@SearchFor" instead of the string @SearchFor represents.  Any ideas?  Below is the two versions of the sql statements
sqlComm.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@SearchFor", strSearchFor));
sqlComm.CommandText = "SELECT RANK, intID,  chTitle, chDescription "
"FROM FREETEXTTABLE( tblItems, *, 'ISABOUT("+ strSearchFor +" WEIGHT(1.0))') a " +

Full-Text CONTAINS Null

Jul 16, 2006

I have a Full-text search that is being performed on a variable (@Description)  see part of querie below:
WHERE (CONTAINS([Description], @Description)
This search only seems to work when a text fo 3 or greater characters is used Ball, but not for "an" or "a". it also does not search on part of a word i.e. "Gard" of "Garden"
Two things:
1) How do I perform the CONTAINS search for part of a word or "a".

Regarding.....Full Text Implementation..........

Sep 21, 2007

I have implemented Full text search in my web application.
I am using sql server 2005 database.
I used “contains “Keyword for full text search.
These are syntax as given below: CONTAINS    ( { column | * } , '< contains_search_condition >'     )  < contains_search_condition > ::=         { < simple_term >         | < prefix_term >         | < generation_term >         | < proximity_term >         | < weighted_term >         }         | { ( < contains_search_condition > )         { AND | AND NOT | OR } < contains_search_condition > [ ...n ]         }
My search gives correct results according to AND NOT and OR.
But, it is not working if I used AND.
Please give me solution.
Its very urgent for me……

Full Text Indexing

Sep 30, 2007

full text indexing
Hi,
In SQL Server 2005, if I set full text indexing enables in column MyDesc and
1. use “Select * from MyTable where MyDesc LIKE ‘%abc%’â€? would this be using full text indexing? Or  have to use Contains to get it be in use?
2. Once I create the full-text index, should I be setting it to populate periodically? Isn’t it populating itself?
