Tools For Design Recovery (reengineering) Of C# Source Code With Embedded Sql Statements ?

Sep 16, 2005

Wonder if somebody know if it exist som tools that makes it possible to get
a graphical overview of relationships between C# source code components and
their's interaction with the database tables/elemts (E.g SQL server
database)

A typecial rewengineering tool to get a grasp of a system with many
components acessing multiple tables in a rdm system.

A tool that parses the C# code for sql/(databse interaction) and presents
the interaction grahical in som way?

Many thanks

Custom Code (Embedded Code) Question

Oct 16, 2007

Hi all,

Could someone tell me if custom code function can capture the event caused by a user? For example, onclick event on the rendered report?

Also, can custom code function alter the parameters of the report, or refresh the report?

Thanks.

Embedded Sql Statements Vs Stored Procedures

Mar 29, 1999

Is it true that replacing embedded sql statements (that insert/update and fetch data
from sql databases) by stored procedures improves overall respones time and SQL performance.
We have tons of embedded SQL statements in our Visual Basic modules and are debating whether replacing them by SQL Stored procedures
will really be worht the effort.

Any insights on this?

Thanks in advance. If possible, please reply to my e-mail.Thanks.

Design Tools / Sql Server Mgt Tools Cause Login Fail

Sep 20, 2007

Login failed for user 'TOSHIBA-USERASPNET'
I know that the file persmission for the web application have to include aspnet, so i keep resetting the folder permission for aspnet in file manager, but the login failed keeps coming back every day or two
problem is after working with VS05 Pro, SQL Server Management Studio CTP, somehow the aspnet persmission get changed, use alot of sqldatasource wizards and often there is a conflict/hang between the datasource wizard and the need to have the mdf in a dettached state within VS server explorer,
not sure but the procedure to fix this seems to be to reboot, detach and re-attach the mdf in the Sql server Studio tool, re-apply the aspnet file permission on the web app folders (wonder should i be doing this in IIS instead), make sure the mdf within server explorer is detached, the it works
anyway, getting real tired of the resulting delays and design time derailment, clues greatly appreciated, thanks
 sometimes i can use View in Browser when in VS05 form view and i wont get the aspnet folder permission error and other times i do.
last thing, is it a bad idea to give aspnet full permission for the entire web applicaiton??

Scope Of Variables In Embedded Code?

Jan 14, 2008

In my report, I have a table with a nested group. The inner most group contains a column with values that are dynamically calculated in the report. I would like the outer group to display the sum of the inner group values. However, the outer group does not have access to the inner group scope.

As a solution, I am attempting to use the method detailed at this site:

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1129743&SiteID=1

Essentially, the method is to declare a hash table in the embedded code where data can be stored. I slightly modified the code to the following:

Code Block
Public Dim hashTable as new System.Collections.HashTable

function setValue(key As Object, value As Object) As Object
If (Not hashTable.ContainsKey(key)) Then hashTable.Add(key, value)
Return value
end Function

function getValue(key As Object) As Object
If (hashTable.ContainsKey(key)) Then Return hashTable(key) Else Return Nothing
end Function

function sumRunningValue(key As Object, value As Object) As Object
If (Not hashTable.ContainsKey(key)) Then hashTable.Add(key, value) Else hashTable(key) = hashTable(key) + value
Return hashTable(key)
end Function

Inside the inner scope everything works great and I can even get the runnning value. But the reason I did this was to be able to access the value in the outer group. But, it doesn't work! When I call Code.getValue(key) I get Nothing back.

So, it seems this is a scope issue. Is anyone aware of a work around for this problem. Is it possible to declare the hashtable with a global scope, for instance? Is the code redeclared for every new group?

Thanks for any assistance,

Tyler

Problem With Embedded Code In REporting Services 2005

May 11, 2007

Hi,
I have a problem that seems impossible to resolve in RS but i need to be sure.
I'm creating an Embedded Code in VB of course, and i need to run a query within my code to be able to continue the rest of the code depending on the result of my query.
The problem is there is no adodb.recordset or adodb.connection like in normal VB.

So i created my query like as string:

Dim Sql as String
Sql="Select ..." into "from ........where...."

At this point if it was in normal VB,
i would do
MyConnection.Execute(SQL)
and then i will get the answer in my recordset.

I need to know if there is a way in RS to run my query since I cannot use use adodb ....
If it's not really possible, is there way to go around this problem????

Thanks for the Help

SQL Tools :: In Simple Recovery Mode Can Do Live Differential Backup?

Jun 30, 2015

I have a small, ~10GB SQL 2008 R2 database, that was setup with simple recovery.  We do full backup each night at midnight when no one is using the database.  Is there any problems with doing differential backups during the day when users may be writing to the database?  Could I even do hourly differential backups while users are using the database?  I'm conflicted about switching over to full recovery mode and using transaction logs to have the ability restore data between backups.  If I can do a couple daily differential backups while users are using the database during the day, in addition to our nightly full backups,  than I  live with simple recovery mode.

I think the problem coincides with an installation of the SQL 2008 CTP and management tools. I'm not sure exactly where to look to fix this.

Debugging SQL Server Statements In Code

How can I view the raw SQL code that ASP.NET sends to SQL Server when using parameters?

The code below doesn't display the actual SQL statement, but instead: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.

string SQL = "INSERT INTO [BLAH] VALUES (@startDate)";
SqlConnection mySqlConn = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings["DSN"]);
SqlCommand mySqlCmd = new SqlCommand(SQL, mySqlConn);

mySqlCmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@startDate", SqlDbType.DateTime));
mySqlCmd.Parameters["@startDate"].Value = Request.Form["start_date"];

DML Statements In Code Vs. Stored Procedures

Aug 4, 2005

Hi,We're having a big discussion with a customer about where to store the SQL and DML statements. (We're talking about SQL Server 2000)We're convinced that having all statements in the code (data access layer) is a good manner, because all logic is in the "same place" and it's easier to debug. Also you can only have more problems in the deployment if you use the stored procedures. The customer says they want everything in seperate stored procedures because "they always did it that way". What i mean by using seperate stored procedures is:- Creating a stored procedure for each DML operation and for each table (Insert, update or delete)- It should accept a parameter for each column of the table you want to manipulate (delete statement: id only)- The body contains a DML statement that uses the parameters- In code you use the name of the stored procedure instead of the statement, and the parameters remain... (we are using microsoft's enterprise library for data access btw)For select statements they think our approach is best...I know stored procedures are compiled and thus should be faster, but I guess that is not a good argument as it is a for an ASP.NET application and you would not notice any difference in terms of speed anyway. We are not anti-stored-procedures, eg for large operations on a lot of records they probably will be a lot better.Anyone knows what other pro's are related to stored procedures? Or to our way? Please tell me what you think...Thanks

This was not caught in Ugrade Advisor.If 2014 upgrade Advisor didn't show any issues on a database, Am i good to go with code like SP's, Triggers, Functions etc?

Hi
In this code how can I create a new data source and new data source view and model and structure that it run dynamic.
In this code I have a lot of errors, that they are about server and database don€™t have in current code,
In this code, first I should definition server or no?

Database dbNew = new Database (databaseName,
Utils.GetSyntacticallyValidID(databaseName, typeof(Database)));
srv.Databases.Add(dbNew);
dbNew.Update(true);
***********************************************************

How can I create data source and data source view and model and structure?
Please say code of that, and guide me.
databasename and srv is unknown.
Do I add other reference with analysis services?
Please explain about these codes:
************************************************************************
1)
RelationalDataSource dsNew = new RelationalDataSource(

db.DataSources.Add(dsNew);
dsNew.ConnectionString = connectionString;

dsNew.Update();
2)

"SELECT * FROM [" + tableName + "] WHERE 0=1", cn);
OleDbDataAdapter ad = new OleDbDataAdapter(cmd);

DataSet dss = new DataSet();
ad.FillSchema(dss, SchemaType.Source);

*************************************************************
4)

// Make sure we have the name we thought

dss.Tables[0].TableName = tableName;

// Clone here - the original DataTable already belongs to a DataSet
rdsv.Schema.Tables.Add(dss.Tables[tableName].Clone());
rdsv.Update();

5)

MiningStructure ms = db.MiningStructures.Add(miningstructureName, Utils.GetSyntacticallyValidID(miningstructureName,
typeof(MiningStructure)));
ms.Source = new DataSourceViewBinding(dsv.ID);
ms.CaseTableName = "Customer";

Add columns:
ScalarMiningStructureColumn smsc;

// From table "Customer" we will add a couple of columns
// CustomerID - key
smsc = new ScalarMiningStructureColumn("Customer ID",
Utils.GetSyntacticallyValidID("Customer ID", typeof(ScalarMiningStructureColumn)));
smsc.IsKey = true;
smsc.Content = "Key";
smsc.KeyColumns.Add("Customer", "customer_id", OleDbType.Integer);
ms.Columns.Add(smsc);

*******************************************
6)

MiningModel mm = ms.MiningModels.Add(miningmodelName,
Utils.GetSyntacticallyValidID(miningmodelName,
typeof(MiningModel)));

mm.Algorithm = "Microsoft_Decision_Trees";
mm.Parameters.Add("COMPLEXITY_PENALTY", 0.3);

MiningModelColumn mc = new MiningModelColumn("Customer ID",
Utils.GetSyntacticallyValidID("CustomerID",
typeof(MiningModelColumn)));
mc.SourceColumnID = ms.Columns["Customer ID"].ID;

mm.Columns.Add(mc);

mm.Update();

Please exactly say, whatever I want
Thanks a lot for your answer

SQL Tools :: Import Export Wizard Default Data Source Causing Error / Crash

Sep 1, 2015

I have several versions of SQL Server and have been using SQL 2008 on a regular basis due to this issue. Our SQL 2014 when I do the Import Data process, it opens up the dialog window, hit next, and the data source is currently defaulting to ".NET Framework Data Provider for IBM i" - when it does this it immediately errors out with:

"An error occurred which the SQL Server Integration Services Wizard was not prepared to handle.

Additional Information:
> Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation (mscrolib)
>> Failed to find or load the registered .NET Framework Data Provider (System.Data)"

It immediately crashes/closes the Import/Export wizard with me unable to change the data source to what I need it to be.

My 2008 defaults to SQL Server Native Client 10.0 and does allow me to change to that same option (at which point it errors) but it does not close the wizard.

I need a way to either:

> Default the starting Data Source to be something else
> Fix whatever error is causing it to crash - I am at a loss as to what the error is looking for
> Not have the wizard crash whenever it defaults to this source.

Any of the above solutions would work fine - but at the moment I am unable to use the Import/Export wizard at all in SQL 2014.

Design: Using 1 Table As A Source For 3 Others

Jan 20, 2008

I have a general design question that has me a little stumped.
I have tried doing a number of searches on this subject, but have so far come up with nothing close. Maybe I am just using the wrong keywords, so if this has been covered before I apologize in advance.

The idea is that I have one table that can hold many records in a group, that will then be referenced in numerous other tables in the database. This way I can have a single table to hold this information instead of one for each other table that will reference it.

As an example. I have three tables.
Clients
Vendors
Company

Each of these tables need to have a pointer to a group of phone numbers. Each client, vendor, or my company could have multiple phone numbers, phone, fax, cell etc. I need to be able to maintain foreign key relationships as I don't want to end up with orphans in the phone table.

I can't use a foreign key field in the phone table with links to all three other tables.
I also don't want to create three link tables which would hold the keys to the clients table, and the keys to the phone table.

One thing I did think about is a structure similar to this:
Company:
Phone_Key int (Foreign Keyed to Phone_Key in Phone)
Other company info fields.

Vendors:
Phone_Key int (Foreign Keyed to Phone_Key in Phone)
Other Vendor info fields.

Clients:
Phone_Key int (Foreign Keyed to Phone_Key in Phone)
Other client info fields

Phone:
Phone_Key int PK identity
Parent_Key int FK to Phone_Key
Other info for the phone info

So I create the first phone number entry in the Phone table and assign it's key to the client's table Phone_Key field. (Or any of the other two table's records)

Next I create any additional phone entries in the Phone table assigning Parent_Key the primary number's Phone_Key.

Is this an acceptable approach, or is there a better less convoluted method for designing the table structure?

Second if this is good, how can I configure SQL server to have a default value for Parent_Key which matches the row's Phone_Key value if I don't provide a parent_key value during the insert? I would prefer to not use triggers at this point.

I know that I would have to deal with logic to handle deleting the primary phone_key from the group, but that is doable easily enough.

Thank you,
Chris

this takes ages ( hours and hours ) to run. is there any way i could have designed this using joins and simple selects to make it more efficient??

For the example

Source access dbase, just two columns but no primary key, T2dbase, Employee

First Name, Description
 Tom          , manager

Destination dbase SQLServer (T1dbase,Employee table), note 4 columns
Primary key NameID, FirstName nvarchar (20), LastName nvarchar (20), Description nvarchar(20)
