Transact SQL :: Accumulate Alarm Time Per Event In A Log Table?
Apr 28, 2015
I have a log table in which alarm events are logged (a many relation to a main table) where EventId is the foreign key in the log table.
In this table all events related to a given incident (EventID) are logged, but it is specifically two eventtypes which is of interest, thats the "into alarm" represented by an integer value "0" in the column "EventTypeId" and the "restored represented by an integer value of "2". Each state of change has a timestamp of datetime. For each incident (EventId) there can be multiple "into alarm" and "restore" rows, there can also be other events which has no interests. Only the timediff between each "0" and "2" accumulated is of interest.
There's one more little twitch, it can occure that when the query is run, the "2" restored state is not yet present, the query should not return a result for that "0" into alarm when the "2" restored is not present, unless there was a complete alarm/restore session.
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[AlarmHistoryLog](
[EventId] [int] NOT NULL,
[EventSeq] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[EventTypeId] [int] NOT NULL,
[EventTime] [datetime] NOT NULL,
[EventDescription] [nvarchar](250) NOT NULL,
[Comment] [nvarchar](4000) NULL,
[UserID] [int] NULL,
[ReceiverID] [int] NULL
) ON [PRIMARY]

I have a table Mytable which has two fields (Date, Value) and record is based on every hour like this:
Date Value
1999-01-01 00:00:00 10
1999-01-01 01:00:00 8
1999-01-01 02:00:00 6
...
1999-01-01 23:00:00 12
1999-01-02 00:00:00 9
1999-01-02 01:00:00 5
...
1999-01-02 23:00:00 2
How can I use a query to get accumulate value for the day? the result should look like this:
Date Value Accumulated_Value
1999-01-01 00:00:00 10 10
1999-01-01 01:00:00 8 18
1999-01-01 02:00:00 6 24...
1999-01-01 23:00:00 12 36
1999-01-02 00:00:00 9 9
1999-01-02 01:00:00 5 14...
1999-01-02 23:00:00 2 16
The accumulated value should be based on every hour for the day and then repeat for the second day and so on.
What is the best way to do this? I am using SQL 2008

I have a dataset (DATA) like this-
Store Start End Type
XXXX 02-03-2015 10:04:00 02-03-2015 10:08:00 1
XXXX 02-03-2015 10:06:00 02-03-2015 10:10:00 2
XXXX 02-03-2015 10:09:30 02-03-2015 10:12:00 1
YYYY 03-03-2015 20:04:00 03-03-2015 20:12:00 1
YYYY 03-03-2015 20:06:00 03-03-2015 20:10:00 2
YYYY 03-03-2015 20:09:00 03-03-2015 20:16:00 1
YYYY 03-03-2015 20:15:00 03-03-2015 20:18:00 2
YYYY 03-03-2015 20:17:00 03-03-2015 20:22:00 2
YYYY 03-03-2015 20:21:00 03-03-2015 20:27:00 1
The output of this file (RESULT) is-
Store Start End Mins of Type 2 only
XXXX 02-03-2015 10:04:00 02-03-2015 10:12:00 00:01:30
YYYY 02-03-2015 20:04:00 02-03-2015 20:27:00 00:05:00
So for each Store (Store is unique in the table), I am rolling up the intervals with overlaps to create a single interval.
Now, for each store, I want to find the time period for purely type 2. So if there is an overlap, type 1 has the dominance. And I want the sum of time period of whatever is left for type 2.
I have written this code but not able to address the overlap issue:
alter table [DATA] add Outage float;
update [DATA]
set Outage = DATEDIFF(SECOND,[Start],[END])
alter table [RESULT] add [Outage_Type1 (%)] float,[Outage_Type2 (%)] float;
[Code] ....

I have a query which is part of bigger transaction:
;WITH CTE(
SELECT id, q,
totalQ=SUM(q) OVER (ORDER BY id ROWS UNBOUNDED PRECEDING)
FROM dbo.myTable WITH (UPDLOCK, ROWLOCK)
), CTE1 AS(
SELECT id, q_take=CASE WHEN c.Total<@qRequired THEN c.q ELSE
@qRequired-c.Total+c.q END FROM CTE
WHERE (CASE WHEN c.Total<@qRequired THEN c.q ELSE
@qRequired-c.Total+c.q END)>0
)
UPDATE t set q-=c1.q_take FROM dbo.myTable t INNER JOIN CTE1 c1 ON t.id=c1.id
Because CTE query is executed separately of update query I must put UPDLOCK hint, otherwise myTable could be changed while my query executes by some other user.(I have snapshot row committed transaction).
The problem is that my hint will hold lock on rows of myTable until the end of outer transaction(the bigger one).
But I need lock only for the time of this small query execution. What would be the best way to achieve that?

I am trying to write a sql query which gives me the start date and end date of a particular flag, each time the flag starts. i tried to do it using cursors and actually joining the table to itself based on a 10 min offset but couldn't get the required results.

I am using SQL SERVER 2008R2, not Denali, so I cannot use OFFSET FETCH Clause.
In my stored procedure, I am doing a SELECT INTO #tblTemp FROM... Working fine. This resultset is going to be used in an SSIS package which will generate a pipe-delimited .txt file... Working fine.
For recoverability sake, I am trying to throttle back on the commit chunks to 1000 rows per commit until there are no more rows. I am trying to avoid large rollbacks.
Q: Am I supposed to handle the transactions (begin/commit/rollback/end trans) when the records are being inserted into the temp table? Or when they are being selected form the temp table?
Q: Or can I handle this in my SSIS package for a flat file destination? I don't see option for a flat file destination like I do for an OLE DB Destination (like Rows per batch, Maximum insert commit size).

I want to create index for hash table (#TEMPJOIN2) to reduce the update query run time. But I am getting "Warning!
The maximum key length is 900 bytes. The index 'R5IDX_TMP' has maximum length of 1013 bytes. For some combination of large values, the insert/update operation will fail". What is the right way to create index on temporary table.
Update query is running(without index) for 6 hours 30 minutes. My aim to reduce the run time by creating index.
And also I am not sure, whether creating index in more columns will create issue or not.
Attached the update query and index query.

Hi all,
Thanks for setting up such a great site and forum.
Here is my problem:
I have a table like the following in SQL Server 2005:
order | taskid | main_person | temp_person | start_assign_date
1 | 3 | John | John | 2008-01-01 10:20:22
2 | 3 | John | Joe | 2008-02-05 15:20:22
3 | 3 | John | John | 2008-02-07 20:25:20
4 | 6 | Joe | Joe | 2008-01-01 10:20:22
5 | 6 | Joe | Mike | 2008-02-01 10:20:22
6 | 10 | Doug | Doug | 2008-01-01 10:20:22
7 | 7 | Russ | Russ | 2008-02-01 11:20:22
8 | 7 | Russ | Mike | 2008-02-08 12:20:22
9 | 7 | Russ | John | 2008-02-10 20:05:12
It was made to record who was in charge of a specific task at a specific time. Each task has its own main responsible person and some substitutes for that person as Temporary Persons (who did the task while main person was away). The Main Person's name is in the temp_person column when he is doing the task by himself.
I'd like to generate a report that shows:
- in a specific time period
- which persons were in charge of a specific task and
- for how long
Something like this:
From 2008-##-## to 2008-##-##
Task 3 - John - 15 days
Task 3 - Joe - 5 days
Task 6 - Joe - 18 days
Task 6 - Mike - 2 days
Task 10 - Doug - 20 days
I have some ideas to do that when there are both start and end dates for every record but I couldn't find a way to use the next assignment start date for each task, as the end date for its previous record (in that task group) to calculate the duration for that record.
I can group the tasks and users and put them in the chronological order but I can't indicate the next start date as the end date for the previous record (in specific task group) to use the date difference functions.
Any hint or comment would be appreciated.
Thanks
Sami

I have a query that returns material(items) that are used in an event on a certain day.
SELECT C.categoryName, count(I.itemID) AS InMission

RIGHT JOIN Categories AS C on I.categoryID = C.categoryID
INNER JOIN LinkMissionItem as LM on I.itemID = LM.itemID

where '2015/12/19' BETWEEN M.freightLeave and M.freightReturn AND isReturned = 0
GROUP BY C.categoryName, C.categoryID
ORDER BY C.categoryID
There are a total of 20 categories and I would like all the categories listed in the result even though there are no items booked in a mission. At the moment, I can only get the categories that have items in that category booked in a mission. I hoped that the RIGHT JOIN on the categories table would do the trick but it doesn't.

I need accumulate the months by Quarter measurement. For example we're in March now and I need put these code in Where clause like:
Where MyDate > DATEADD(mm, -11, DATEADD(mm, DATEDIFF(mm, 0, GETDATE()), 0)) ...
here DATEADD(mm, -11, DATEADD(mm, DATEDIFF(mm, 0, GETDATE()), 0)) makes Apr of last year included because that is the first month in 2nd Quarter of last year. But in next month we're in Apr and I need make -11 as -12 in above code to include Apr of last year. And same reason if we're in Feb. 2014 then I need change -11 to -10.
So how can I calculate this to make the number fit into the code or some other way to get the same effect? I need get all last 4 quarters based on current month (include current Quarter).

I have some transactions with the same card number that needs to add value amount to its existing balance. For example:
Card Number Balance Amount Issue Date Issue Branch.
4000111122223333 $100.00 10/1/2015 123 <= This is an existing row in Card Number SQL table.
Now, the same card number with additional $50 dollars that I want to add to this card number to make the total to become $150. This additional $50 is from another transaction table. On the contrary, I will have -$20 from the same card number in different transaction that I will need to deduce $150-$20 to become $130. How can I update the card number table with debit/credit transactions to keep the outstanding balance?

Hi, all experts here,
Thank you very much for your kind attention.
I am confused on key column of case table and key time column of nested table by using Time Series algorithm.
In my case, the case table structure is as below:
Territory key text (the ID is actually dimrisk_key, in this case, I use the name column binding to combine the Territory column of case table Dimrisks),
While the nested table structure is as below:
Cal_month key time (in this case, actually the ID is dimdate_key, again, I used name column bining property to bind the Cal_month to the ID)
So my question is, as the key column of case table has been set to be Territory, as a result, does the model training still cover all the cases (rows) based on the ID of the table?
Also, in the nested table, as the key time column has been set to Cal_month rather than Dimdate_key of the nested table, as a result, would the single series based on the cal_month?
Hope it is clear for your advices and help.
And I am looking forward to hearing from you shortly.
With best regards,
Yours sincerely,

I have been testing with the WMI Event Watcher Task, so that I can identify a change to a file.
The WQL is thus:
SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent within 30
WHERE targetinstance isa 'CIM_DataFile'
AND targetinstance.name = 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Backup\AdventureWorks.bak'
This polls every 30 secs and in the SSIS Event (ActionAtEvent in the WMI Task is set to fire the SSIS Event) I have a simple script task that runs a message box).
My understanding is that the event polls every 30 s and if there is a change on the AdventureWorks.bak file then the event is triggered and the script task will run producing the message.
However, when I run the package the message is occurring every 30s, meaning the event is continually firing even though there has been NO change to the AdventureWorks.bak file.
Am I correct in my understanding of how this should work and if so why is the event firing when it should not ?
