Transact SQL :: Adding Stored Procedure To Master Database?

I have a SQL server instance being used as our data warehousing environment. The instance consists of several databases that I am snapshotting as part of our high availability strategy for data. I've created a stored procedure that takes the source database as an argument and that will create a new snapshot when a new one needs to be created and will also automatically remove the old snapshot. It also updates some synonym tables that point to the new snapshot but that might not be an important detail.
I would like to have the stored procedure stored some place global to all of the databases that I am routinely snapshotting, but that would mean putting it in the master database. Although having it there makes things significantly better in terms of usability, it seems like there's something wrong with putting any stored procedures in the master database. Am I wrong? Is it OK to put stored procedures there in situations like this?

I'm trying to write a stored procedure that performs a select statement of the RequestID column and the total of the disk size for that row. ie the values on RequestAdditionalDisk1Size + RequestAdditionalDisk2Size + RequestAdditionalDisk3Size where the Requester equals a certain value. I can perform the select statement fine on the individual values, how to add the values of the Disk sizes together and present that back in the select statement.So far the code looks like but is giving me an error around the line performing a SUM.

During a unit test, I was surprised to find a data access error that traces back to a particular master stored procedures missing execute permissions for the dbo. I wonder if there's somewhere a sample script that globally grants execute permision to stored procedures. Better still can the permission granting be automated each time a new stored procedure is created?.Thanks much.

I have dw schema in the database, owned by user dw.The login name is dw. The login had db_owner right in the database. The default schema for the login on the database is dw.Now Once I assign 'sysadmin' serverrole to dw login, I started seeing stored proc not found error, if try to execute stored proc without mentioning dw.spname;Also I am seeing table not found error while quering tables under dw schema, after the change.

I need some clarification regarding the security inside of the master db.
I have a user stored procedure in master. I would like to be able to execute that stored procedure from an internal web app. Would I give execute permission on the stored procedure to the "public" or "guest" role? The web app would be using a userid/pw for an application database.
Also, is it a good idea to have user stored procedures inside of master? Could someone point me to where I can find a good article on master db best practices?

Almost new to ssrs, accessing Oracle's stored procedures to feed the reports (no other choice), working on a master/detail report and badly stuck. This report needs to access 3 stored procedures one for master and two for small tables under it. The master's order ID is fed to the two stored procedures that may or may not pull any thing for certain order ID's
I am approaching it by creating 2 datasets and a page-long list, added desired text boxes and a table in the list, grouped the list on order ID and passing it to tables using default values etc. but keep getting the following message.
"The Group expression for the table €˜table1€™ refers to the field €˜ProductName€™. Report item expressions can only refer to fields within the current data set scope or, if inside an aggregate, the specified data set scope".
The list seems to be associated to one dataset only and any item in it cannot refer to anyother dataset, even if I try to access the table's dataset in its properties (The 'current data set scope' implies that).
(Not sure what will happen when I will try to add the second table and dataset with the same parameter name).
How should I approach this issue. I will appreciate help, if explained in steps but won't mind a good tip.

I am attempting to setup a Master-Details with GridView/DetailsView but I can't seem to find any information on using a stored procedure that requires parameters with the SqlDataSource control. SelectCommandType specifies that you are using a stored proc. SelectCommand specifies the name of the proc, but I haven't found any information on how to pass a parameter to the stored procedure.Is it even possible or do I have to forget about using the DetailsView control altogether?

Currently I add a new stored procedure in Enterprise Manager by right-clicking Stored Procedure and clicking New Stored Procedure then copy/paste text of procedure into window displayed. Whenever we set up new customer, this process is repeated several times to get all of our stored procedures loaded.
Is there a way to automate this process?

I would like to add database to single user mode to enable broker. So, i have tried this:
ALTER DATABASE myDb SET SINGLE_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE
ALTER DATABASE myDb SET ENABLE_BROKER
ALTER DATABASE myDb SET MULTI_USER
But the query works more than half an hour then i have stopped it. i guess it has infinite loop, I get also many of this messages:
Nonqualified transactions are being rolled back. Estimated rollback completion: 0%.
There is no other transaction also there is no other user connections. So, what happens?

Hi all,I am creating a ASP.Net 2.0 website and in it I had to create a CLR stored procedure to do a complex sql procedure. Coming to the problem I created the CLR stored procedure as a different database project . I wanted to know whether its possible to add the CLR managed code into my exisiting ASP.Net project in which case I should get the dll for this stored procedure in order to deploy the stored proc in the SQL Server.Or is there some simplified approach to using clr stored procedures in an ASP.Net project.

I have made this defination for a stored procedure:

Hello:I have a stored procedure for generating our invoices in CrystalReports. I have added a new field to the SP, but when I try to add thefield to my Crystal Report invoice, the field isn't available in thelist. However, if I create a new, blank report using the same storedprocedure as the datasource, the field is available. I've seeminglytried every iteration of "Verify Database" to no avail.The obvious answer would be to simply drop the sp from my existingreport and then re-add it. Hi,We have a situation where we want to move our current databaseserver to a different hardware and rename the server.If we change the Physical server name, do we have to go thru the wholeprocess of changing it in sql server by running sp_dropserver,sp_addserver?Can we have an alias for the server name in DNS and can sql serverresolve the server name internally by going thru DNS?For eg: Our current database server name is FFSQL-PRD01. We have itregistered in EM as FFSQL-PRD01. Now we renamed the server toSTLSQL-PRD01, and added an entry in DNS for STLSQL-PRD01 with alias ofFFSQL-PRD01( the same old name as alias). After doing this when I goto EM and click on FFSQL-PRD01 would it give me an error? or can itresolve the server name by going to DNS.When you install SQl server the default instance has to be the physicalserver name, Why? Is it possible to execute a stored procedure in one database, which thenitself executes a stored procedure from another database? We have decide tosplit our data into a tree structure (DB1) and data blobs (DB2) (we areusing MSDE and we have a 2gb limit with each DB so we've done it this wayfor that reason). I would like to, say, execute a stored procedure in DB1,passing in the data blob and other details, DB1 will create a tree node inDB1 and then add the blob record to DB2. DB1 will wrap in a transaction ofcourse, as will DB2 when it adds the blob. Is this possible?

I have two tables. UserIds is a collection of users, with UserId as the primary key. Contacts simply maps pairs of users. Think of it like IM, where one user can have multiple contacts.

UserId - int, the UserId of the user who has the contact
ContactUserId - int, the UserId of the contact
I also have a stored procedure named GetConnectedUserIds that returns all the contacts of a given user. It takes a single parameter, @UserId, the UserId of the user whose contacts I want to get. That's pretty simple:
SELECT ContactUserId FROM Contacts WHERE UserId=@UserId.
Now here's where I get over my head. I actually want that stored procedure to return the user's contacts AND the user's own ID. I want the SELECT statement above, but tack on @UserId to the end of it.
How do I do that?

My task is to add income by taking few variables from webpage. I had take User ID(From database), Field value by selecting it from DropDownBox( Which value is once again taken from database), Income Description, Date, Amount . I had completed this task successfully by binding DropDownBox to database by query string and added income using stored procedure as below.

How we can get to know what DML action(INSERT,UPDATE,DELETE) is present inside a Stored procedure, and i want to know if we have any specific columns are present in system tables or system related dynamic views which gives this info. I am aware of the SQL profiler, but in my scenario i want to use it through system tables or system related dynamic views.

I am trying to add the hours between each time block stored in a database.
In this database a user enters the begin time and the end time. For example the course MATH0001 would start at 8am and end at 10am. Therefore the user would enter 0810 in the start field and 1000 in the end field. The course MATH0001 doesn't run the entire semester it may only run from 8th Jan - 15th March and the course is scheduled in a room called GR4. Now because a course can be scheduled modularly, one room could have several courses scheduled in this manner.
The problem: I need to find out how many hours GR4 is used but it contains the following courses

A day only has 13 hours. Therefore the total hours spent in GR4 should be 12 hours. This is calculated by adding the hours between 8am and 5pm = 9 hours and 5pm an 8pm = 3 hours. I would not include 9am to 1pm because it is a subset of the 8am to 5pm slot.
Now, how to accomplish this but below is the code that i have thus far:
I forgot to mention that this code was to just test my 'final code' results and it outputs the table shown above. Anyway for testing purposes I have limited the search to the room GR4 and the day Tuesdays.
