Transact SQL :: Backup Database And A Folder From Some Program In One Bak File?
Jun 17, 2015
the idea is to put together a folder that is in some place in the computer, like "c:excel_fles" and the database full backup in a single .bak file, the database can be recovered with sql server management studio(but no the folder), the restoration of the program can be done with a program, I think it can be done with msdb, but I'm a little lost in the road.

I have created a trigger to call a program that is written by our program. The program is basically read the record in the table and write to a text file, then delete the record from the table.
The trigger is a after insert trigger. After we added the trigger, we insert a record to the table. The result is that the record still and did not get deleted. Also, the text file didn't get created either. It seems that it take a long time for the record to be written to the table.
But if we just run the program (a exe file), it can write a text file in the folder and delete the record. the trigger is basically:
USE [Zinter]
GO
/****** Object: Trigger [dbo].[ZinterProcess] Script Date: 04/29/2014 18:34:56 ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO
[Code] ....

Usual way to check if file exists
DECLARE @File_Exists INT
EXEC Master.dbo.xp_fileexist 'serverBSQL_Backupfile.bak', @File_Exists OUT
print @File_Exists
1
And if check folder, can use "nul", but it doesn't work for UNC path
DECLARE @File_Exists INT
EXEC Master.dbo.xp_fileexist 'serverBSQL_Backup
ul', @File_Exists OUT
print @File_Exists
0
If use xp_subdirs like:
EXEC master.dbo.xp_subdirs 'serverBSQL_Backups'
If the folder doesn't exists,
Msg 22006, Level 16, State 1, Line 3
xp_subdirs could not access 'ServerBSQL_Backups*.*': FindFirstFile() returned error 67, 'The network name cannot be found.'
How to check if UNC folder exists in Backup? in my code I want to check if the unc folder exists before doing backup, the unc path is retrieved from other table or backup history.

We noticed SQL Server 2005 is creating Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedDW on our largest drive for each 64-bit installation. Does anyone know what this is? It appears there is no Microsoft documentation regarding this installation and if we need to keep it. It may be .NET related, but I have no idea why it is needed.

I've been struggling with this issue,
1) Test--FolderName (This Test folder name should use as a database name for below sub folders)
a)Create--Sub Foldername
i)create.sql
b)Alter---Sub FolderName
i)Alter.sql
c)Insert---Sub FolderName
i)Insert.sql
[Code] .....
The scripts need to be run in order. So script one needs to run first folder in that sub folders after that next second folders etc..
Is there a way to create a bat file that automatically runs all these scripts, in order against, the databases they need to?
The databases that they need to run against have the name of the database at the beginning of the name of the folder.

I would have to handover my DB with only Primary tables to client as part of SLA.
I am planning to keep these primary tables on a secondary file-group but how-ever, I will still have my procedures on primary file-group.
How can I accomplish this with client having no exposure to my stored procedures.

Hi all,
I have a stand-alone Windows XP Pro PC that has SQL Server Express (SSE) and Visual Web Developer Express (VWDE) programs. The Microsoft "pubs" Database is installed in the SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE). I created a website in my VWDE program. I need the .mdf file of the pubs Database in the App_Data folder of website of my VWDE project. I think that User Instance in my SSE is established. I have studied Xcopy Deployment (SQL Server Express) and User Instance for a quite a while and I still do not know where and how to use Xcopy to get the mdf file of the pubs database into the App_Data folder of the website of my VWDE project. Please help and give me the detailed key steps/instructions about where and how to get the .mdf file of the pubs database into the App_Data folder of the website of my VWDE project via Xcopy.
Thanks in advance,
Scott Chang

I should restore a SQL Server 2005 Database from backup. The backup contains three files, named user.bak0, user.bak1 and user.bak2.
How is the syntax of the restore filelistonly and the restore database ... ?
I usualy write
restore filelistonly from disk = 'path and filenam.bak'
restore database. zy
from disk = 'path and filename.bak'
with replace,
move.....
move....
This works but I cannot use it with a splitted backup file. The files are much too big to put together to one file.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I am having problem with moving a file from one folder to another folder. Here is the detailed scenario:
I want to move a input.csv file from shared input folder to shared archive folder. i am using the below code to do this.
declare @inpath varchar(100)
SET @inpath = 'move "\abcdefINPUTinput*.csv" "\abcdefARCHIVEarchive.csv"'
EXEC @filestatus = master..xp_cmdshell @inpath
but the problem was it was cutting the input.csv file from INPUT folder but not pasting it in the ARCHIVE folder.
I really appreciate if anyone can help me to solve this or anyone can tell some workarounds.
Thanks,

I am new to T-SQL programming. I need to write a main procedures to execute multiple transactions. How could I structure the program so that each transaction will not abort if failed. Instead, the next transaction will keep running. At the very end the procedure will output the error and report them back to the main program in the output parameters. Looking for pseudo code.

This is a pretty basic question, but I've generated a backup file for one of my SQL 2000 databases, and I need to copy the backup file to another computer so I can burn it on CD. Whenever I try to copy the file, I get an error message saying that the file is in use by another process and can't be copied. I have tried detaching the database, shutting down Enterprise Manager, stopping the MSSQL service, but all to no avail. There must be a way to do this, but I can't get it to work. Does anyone have any ideas?

I don't know where to post this kind of stuff so here goes...
I have maintenance plans which sometimes fail because the delete step reports that the old backup file is "in use." I have no idea how to determine what Windows thinks is holding the file. HOw do you determine who is holding a file hostage??

Hello,
i would like to copy the SQL Server Express database .mdf and .ldf files for backup. Is this ok?
Autoclose = true and recovery model = simple.
Must i detach the database before copy the 2 files or can i copy the 2 files without detach at any time? When connections are open (also remote connections).
Can i copy at any time even when transactions are active?
I would like to write a copy programm which copies the 2 files every 30 minuutes. Only 30 minutes of work could be lost.
This would be enough for me and i don't have to care for the the BACKUP and RESTORE stuff. In the past i used BACKUP and when i needed this BACKUP it did not run. Returns some error message..
Is copy ok? When is it possible? At any time or must all transactions be comitted? Must all connections (remotes too) be closed? Must the database be detached?
Is this enough to have a valid backup? Backup would be an attach of the .mdf file.
Or must i use the BACKUP and RESTORE stuff? Why?
If so, for what reason is the AUTO CLOSE property there?
Regards,
Markus

Hello,
I have a user database which has 1 data file and 1 logfile.
I did a complete backup of the database to a file on the disk drive, using Enterprise manager. Due to some reason, I had to drop the database. The only way I could restore it was by,
1. Create the database with the same name.
2. Restore the complete backup from the file device.
While doing so,
I get the message "Backup set holds the backup of daatabase other than the existing 'userdbname' database. BAckup terminating."
Is it because the database was dropped and recreated.
If I choose the option to overwrite, it restores successfully.
Is this normal and right way to do it? Is there any thing else that I need to take care of, while backup or restore?
Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks,
MMS

finding the database size from the backup file.I have SQL 2012 backup file, is there any way to find the estimated database size from the backup.I tried restoring , i got an error saying " no space need additional xxx bytes " ...does this error gives the exact space needed to restore ?
One more question....one of the backup file size is 7.2 GB, when i try to restore it ....it throws error saying it needs 292GB extra space while only 100 Gb is available. How come 392 Gb sized database becomes 7.2 Gb .bak file ?
