Transact SQL :: Arithmetic Calculation Between Two Rows And Result In Alias Column?

Jul 12, 2015

I am trying to compare Sales value of year 2015 with sales value of 2016 and the difference stored in alias column as Sales_growth for year 2016 , for year 2015 the alias column be as '1' similarly difference between margin of 2015 and 2016 and result stored in alias column as margin_rate in year 2016for 2015 as 1 but when there is no record for year 2015 and record present in 2016 for a given (month, SM,SG,CUST,SP) then the alias column sales_growth and margin_rate should be 100

Formula for calculation

SGR = (sales(2015)-sales (2016)) / Sales_growth(2015)
SGR = (3456.05-3603.33) /3456.05 = -0.043
MR =( margin (2015)-margin( 2016) / margin(2015)
MR = (1059.24-1053.07)/1059.24= 0.006
DECLARE @T1 TABLE

[code]....

last record : as there is no record  for year 2015 and record present in 2016 for a given (month, SM,SG,CUST,SP) then the alias column sales_growth and margin_rate should be 100

Search For String In Stored Procedures

Aug 22, 2001

Ever needed to find a stored procedure with a specific string in it? You can pretty this up as a stored procedure and pass it a parm or cut and paste it into query analyzer.

select name from sysobjects
where id = (select id from syscomments
where text like '%like%')

Edit:

The above works only for a single hit. For multiple hits, this works

select name from sysobjects as A
join syscomments as B
on (text like '%cursor%')
where A.id = B.id

Search Contents Of Stored Procedures?

Hi All,I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if it's possible to search forstored procedures by their contents?I tend to leave very descriptive notes in stored procedures andthey're beginning to build up in number, so I'm wondering if it'spossible to search in Query Analyzer for stored procedures thatcontain certain words / phrases etc.Alternatively, is there a way to do a system-level select that lookssomething like the following pseudo-gibberish (actually, it's actualgibberish, I guess, rather than pseudo-gibberish):SELECT * FROM [all stored procedures] where [contents] like '%mysearch phrase%'Any help much appreciated!Much warmth,Murray

USE Statement In Stored Procedures Two Databases, How Please?

May 23, 2008

This works great in a query:

USE KCADOWNLOAD

USE OUTHOUSE

GO

DELETE FROM OUTHOUSE.KCA_BLDGS_ACCES

INSERT INTO OUTHOUSE.OUTHOUSE.KCA_BLDGS_ACCES

(MAJOR, MINOR, ACCYTYPE, ACCYDESCR,

QUANTITY, SIZE, UNIT, GRADE, EFFYR, PCNTNETCONDITION, ACCYVALUE, DATEVALUED, UPDATEDBY,

UPDATEDATE,PID)

SELECT MAJOR, MINOR, ACCYTYPE, ACCYDESCR,

QUANTITY, SIZE, UNIT, GRADE, EFFYR, PCNTNETCONDITION, ACCYVALUE, DATEVALUED, UPDATEDBY,

UPDATEDATE,PID

FROM KCADOWNLOAD.dbo.KCA_BLDGS_ACCES AS KCA_BLDGS_ACCES_1

But the stored procedure only creates ONE Use statement:

USE [KCADOWNLOAD]

...etc.

I assume I can run an SP utilizing two databases...

The SP fails because it hasn't got a clue what OUTHOUSE is...

Thank you!!!

Schemas, Stored Procedures And Shared Databases

Dec 11, 2007

Hi,

We have two databases right now that house miscellaneous small applications. We have them in place so developers can develop small applications in them without going through the database request process and bother the DBAs. This was set up before I got here - so I wasn't involved in the decision to do such a thing. The obvious drawback to this is that a restore would wipe out data for multiple applications. As we move to a new 2005 server we are re-evaluating our methods and would like some input on this - and some other aspects.

I know that we could use filegroups and put objects related to certain applications within them so restore is independent of other apps. Each application has its own user which is granted execute on it's stored procedures.
Are we missing anything here? I'm almost tempted to try to get separate databases created to uncomplicate it. If a developer can spend hours working on an app, they can spend 10 minutes on a form and wait 30 for us to create it.

Another thing I've noticed it that it can take quite a while to grant permissions to many stored procedures to a user in 2005. In 2000 there was a grid and you could arrow down and hit space, granting execute. You could also use code to do this, be we never really needed to since developers granted as they went and we would script the object and check the 'script obect level permissions' checkbox. This has since disappeared and granting execute is another step for us.

What do you think of 'sub schemas' for each role in the application - which is usually 'User' and 'Admin'? So we would have MylittleApp_User.ProcedureName and MylittleApp_Admin.ProcedureName with execute granted on the schema for each application user. Tables would be placed in MylittleApp schema.

In the past developers simply prefix their procedure with the application name to denote what application it belongs to.

Thanks for your advice on this - we don't want to get headed down the wrong path.

Transact SQL :: Search Substrings In Column Values

Jun 19, 2015

I have 2 tables in a SQL Server database:

Table A(Value), which contains some strings in the column "Value"

Table B(Key,Text), which also contains strings (in the column "Text")

Now I want to find all rows in B which contain at least one string of A and create a result table X with all found rows in B. B should contain the found keys and all found substrings for this key (separated with a comma)

The solution I am looking for may not use a Cursor and may not use the CONTAIN-Statement (fulltextsearch feature)..

Search For A Table/string Within Job Steps, Dts, Database, Stored Procedures Etc

May 16, 2007

Hi All :A couple of tables have been identified to be deleted. My job is tofind if it is at all used.On searching the web, i found a proc to search for a string within alldatabases in a server.using system sproc : sp_msforeachdbit searches for a string inviews, sprocs, functions, check constraints, defaults, foreign key, scalar function, inlined tablefunction, primary key, 'Replicationfilter stored procedure, System table, Table function, Trigger, 'Usertable, 'UNIQUE constraint''Extended stored procedure'So it is pretty extensive. But i dont think it is covering the codewithin execsqltasks in DTS, and tsql code within JOB STEPS. Transact SQL :: Search A String In A Column Which Is Enclosed By Quotations

Jul 2, 2015

I need to categorize some rows of a column into specific type.  Criteria for the category search is to find a string which is enclosed at both the ends "_"

Example:
_you_,
are_you_,
are_you_jack

But when I give  condition like '%_you_% I end up getting records which are like "areyou_".

create table #test
(n varchar(30))

insert into #test values
('sql_2012'),
('ssis_msbi_'),
('ssrs_msbi'),
('ssasmsbi_')

select n,
case
when n like '%_msbi_%' then 'yes'
else 'no'
end as type
from #test

In the above query I need type as "yes" only for "ssis_msbi_". But the above query results with "yes" even for ssasmsbi_. What I need to do, to get just the data which has "_msbi_" in it.

Transact SQL :: Script Out Many Stored Procedures At Once?

Mar 10, 2010

I found lots of methods for individually scripting out stored procedures, but I'd like to know if there's a way to do many (like 100 or so) at once. Ideally, I'd like to execute something that would save all the procedures that start with 'dev_' to the file system somewhere, then delete the dev_ SP's from the database and leave the other SPs that actually get used. Is that possible in one step?

Transact SQL :: Executing Stored Procedures And Threading

Jul 10, 2015

If I have several stored procedures, all of them making inserts/updates to the same tables, what is the safest way to run them in sequence?

The context is an asp.net application; I have an aspx page where a click on a button (or more) will launch stored procedures in execution. I have encountered the unfortunate situation before, when stored proc #2 started long before stored proc #1 finished and this caused problems.

If I group all stroed procs in one that simply calls all of them in the needed sequence:

exec stproc1
exec stproc2
.....
exec stprocn

Will they execute in a single thread? Is there any guarantee that stproc2 will be executed when stproc1 finishes, and so on?

May 30, 2015

I have about 30 different reports that I want to pull into a dashboard. I need to make sure that they don't execute in serial to get good performance.

There are two ways I can approach it

1) I can create a stored procedure for each report and then make sync calls for each of the reports from the web site. So, basically this will be controlled from the web end.

2) I can do this from the SQL Server database, if there is someway to execute these stored procedures in parallel.

Moving Tables Between Databases And Setting Alias

Apr 27, 2006

Due to bad programming techniques and legacy databases, my company has a large database with all the tables in it. I would like to start moving these tables out of the database and into more appropriately named databases.I was wondering if there was a way to set an alias up so that, when the table is moved, there will be no problems with out code still trying to access the table from the old database.Maybe an example is the best way to explain this. Lets say we have a DB_Company database with table T_Customers, T_Suppliers, etc. Now, as the company grows, we decide to create a dedicated database for all the customers. So we create a database DB_Customers and move the T_Customers table into it.The problem is that they may be some code that is still trying to access the DB_Company.T_Customers table. Is there a way of setting an alias up so that, when someone tries to access the DB_Company.T_ Customers table, he is automatically redirected to the DB_Customers.T_Customers?Hope that's not too confusing :-(Jag

SQL Server 2005: Copying Tables And Stored Procedures Between Databases On Same Server

Mar 5, 2008

This question is about SQL Server 2005:
I have been trying to figure out how to copy tables and stored procedures between 2 databases (on the same server) using SQL Server Management Studio. I have tried right clicking on the table name, "script table as", "drop to", "clipboard", then I click on the 2nd database, and then click on the "tables" . I change the name of the database and click "execute". This creates the table but does not copy the data. I have also tried "create to" "clipboard" and "insert to" "clipboard" and cannot seem to be able to figure out how to get the results that I want. I am new at this but need to get the tables with the data copied along with the stored procedures, even if I have to do them one at a time. When I was using SQL Server 2000, I was able to use DTS to copy objects to other databases easily. Can someone please tell me a way to accomplish what I need to do? I have gotten information here before that was very useful and was hoping that someone can help me again.Thank you so much. Carol Quinn

Using Stored Procedures To Set The Default Value Or Binding Of A Table Column

Nov 24, 2007

I want to be able to have an authorized person set or change the default values of a table column in a SQL Database. I have a stored procedure that sets the default which works fine: ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[addMyConst]ASBEGINALTER TABLE [dbo].[tbl1]ADD DEFAULT 70 FOR [Auto_ourlim]END(I still need to put parameters in so that I can run the stored procedure from a form, but for now....)
To change it I know that I have to drop the constraint first like this:
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[dropmyValue]ASALTER TABLE [dbo].[tbl1] DROP CONSTRAINT [Auto_ourlim]
The problem is that when I execute the procedure I get the error that "Auto_ourlim" is not a constraint so it does not drop the Default Value. When I go over to SQL Server Management Studio Express I can see why:
If I open up the table and open up the Constraints the constraint is "DF__tbl1__Auto_ourli__5FB337D6". I could change the DROP CONSTRAINT to this, and that works, but it changes every time I add the new DEFAULT VALUE.  I don't know how to get around it. Is there a way to put wildcards around "Auto_our" in DROP CONSTRAINT [Auto_ourlim}? Any suggestions would be welcome...even if there's a totally different way to do it.
What I'm trying to ultimately accomplish is this: Column1 (AutoLimits) would be user insert to the database and then in the database it would MINUS Column2 (Auto_ourlim - set with the default value) = Column3 (Difference - a computed field in the database)

Parameter Passing - Table Name & Column Name In Stored Procedures

Mar 9, 2001

How can a Stored Procedure use a variable table name and column name ?

The statement :-

SELECT @columnname FROM @tablename

gives error "Line 5: Incorrect syntax near '@tablename'."

I am passing the parameters 'tablename' and 'columnname' into the stored procedure, (in order to select a variable column from a variable table).

If I hard-code the tablename, then I get a column of output with just the name of the column I was trying to list, e.g. surname,

i.e. SELECT @columnname FROM employeetable gives :-

surname
surname
surname
surname
surname
surname

How can I get the procedure to accept a variable table name and column name ?

I thought one way to do it would be to use the 'EXEC' statement :-

SELECT @sql = 'SELECT '+ @columnname +' FROM '+@tablename
EXEC(@sql)

but this gives error : "Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'FROM' "

although the following table works :-

SELECT @sql = 'SELECT surname FROM '+@tablename
EXEC(@sql)

The problem seems to be mainly with variable column names.

Also, we don't really want to use the EXEC statement because it will not be compiled and will be slower. (Does anyone know by how much slower ?)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Kind regards,
Ian.
