I have the following table (Table does not have unique key id )

May be we may do by dense_rank or Row_Number, but I couldn't get the exact query to produce based on the above table values.  There are some duplicates in the table(which are not duplicates as per the Business). For those duplicated Unique ID should be same(Marked in Orange Color which are duplicates).

Retrieving Unique Fields From Table Into Existing Dataset

I am working on creating a report which is retrieving data from a SQL 2005 database and being displayed in a C#.net web page.  Presently, I am binding the dataset to a ASP:Gridview on the web page.

I also have another table called tbl_Notes.  This table contains an unlimited quantity of records for every “num_TicketNumberâ€?.  This table contains the following fields:  num_TicketNumber, str_TechRep, str_Notes, dat_TimeStamp, int_PercentComplete and int_MinutesWorked
I need to add two more fields to the query, but I do not know how to tell the SQL statement how to retrieve the data for the specfic record and inbed the fields into the Dataset being returned from the database to the web page.1) The first field I need is the most current recorded Date field from the tbl_Notes table for the each of the records returned in the above SQL statement.  Similar to:  SELECT TOP (1) dat_TimeStamp FROM tbl_Notes WHERE(num_TicketNumber = xxxx) ORDER BY dat_TimeStamp DESC2) The other field I need to return with the Dataset is the sum of the int_MinutesWorked for each of the tickets being retrieved. I am using MS SQL 2012.  I have a table that contains all the data that I need, but I need to summarize the data and also add up decimal fields while at it.  Then I need a total of those added decimal fields. My data is like this:

I have Providers, a unique ID that Providers will have multiples of, and then decimal fields. Here are my fields:

ID, provider_name, uniq_id, total_spent, total_earned

Here is sample data:

1, Harbor, A07B8, 500.00, 1200.00
2, Harbor, A07B8, 400.00, 800.00
3, Harbor, B01C8, 600.00, 700.00
4, Harbor, B01C8, 300.00, 1100,00
5, LifeLine, L01D8, 700.00, 1300.00
6, LifeLine, L01D8, 200.00, 800.00

I need the results to be just 3 lines:

Harbor, A07B8, 900.00, 2000.00
Harbor, B01C8, 900.00, 1800.00
LifeLine, L01D8, 900.00, 2100.00

But then I would need the totals for the Provider, so:

Harbor, 1800.00, 3800.00

Now I need to find out unique occurrences of ID - 100 ( where count = unique only if the occurrences are in consecutive days, gap of even 1 day causes it to be a different instance ) - SO with the above data I should have unique occurrences as 3.efficient way to calculate this ?

I want to add a unique constraint on 3 fields, to only allow the value in the field ONE time. The value will NEVER be the same for anything else. This is the table structure

Non-existing Field In Fields Collection

I'm developing a report in RS 2000 that uses two datasets. The first dataset provides data to a drill-down report on the top part of the screen and the second small dataset provides some data for additional summary information on the bottom of the screen. I'm getting a runtime error "An unexpected error occurred in Report Processing. The expression referenced a non-existing field in the fields collection." Of course, I've edited every expression I can think of: text boxes, data grid, parameters, filters, drill-down lists... I think I've gone through every object on the report but I can't isolate the bad expression. Can anyone suggest a better way to debug this type of error? It compiles fine, but fails in runtime. thanks.

I'm designing an app for stock keeping. In my DB, I have a field called "ItemSerialNo" and I made it unique(but not the table's primary key). On my front end, I have a text box for Item Serial No and a combo box loaded with the item brands and also a save button. I know that if I try to save a serial no already existing in my DB, the app won't allow me because of the unique property of the field named "ItemSerialNo". But I want to be able to save a serial no already existing in my DB but with a different brand name.

For example, I want to be able to save information like:

1. ITEM SERIAL NO = 12345
BRAND NAME = AA
2. ITEM SERIAL NO = 12345
BRAND NAME = BB.

Re-populate A Unique Number Into Multiple Fields

What I need to do is re-populate a unique number into multiple fields,

Let me explain, An employee can appear in the first table only once but can be in the second table multiple times with multiple employee numbers .There is a field called TFN that is unique and we are using it to create a unique id called KRid so what I have done is created 2 tables namely TEST_TBL and TEST2_TBL . In TEST_TBL I am populating a KRid with a unique no being produced by the TFN field only once i.e 12345 being the resulting unique id number. If an employee has 2 employee numbers i.e empno 1 and empno 1000,only employee no 1 will have the unique KRid created but nothing for 1000 because the record already exists , so what has me stumped is that the TFN for employee empno 1 and the TFN for empno 1000 are the same. How do I get the KRid (12345 from empno 1) to populate empno 1000 in TEST2_TBL , The second table has all records in so I can group the second table by TFN id but how do I populate employee 1000 in the second table with the KRid 12345.


Please help!!!!! Below are how the tables are set up and an example of the result.

Importing Data From Excel To Update Existing Fields

I have an excel file that contains column A with names of components and products followed by column B which has each respective quantity on hand. I want to import that data to our website's SQL database that has a products table with a column, Pf_ID, that has only product names not component names and In_Stock which contains out-dated information that I want updated from column B of the excel file.

I think I've figured out how to use DTS and update the two fields, but I'm afraid that when everything runs new entries will be created with component information. Is it possible to specify that only rows where Pf_ID matches some row in column A that same row's column B will be used to update the data in In_Stock. I may have just made things too confusing than they need to be, but I don't have much experience with EM or Excel.

I'm also considering trying to write a macro that will match Pf_IDs in an exported excel file of the products table and take rows out of the excel file with current quantity information putting them in a new excel file to import into the website's database.

Please help, this is getting really confusing.

Unique Constraint Based On Value In A Column

I don't immediately find if this is possible but hope someone can give me an answer:
is it possible to make a unique constraint over 2 columns but only when 1 column has a specific value ?

Example: table (tableid, instancetype, instancename, ..)
instancetype can be A or B
if it is A then instancename must be unique
but for B instancename is not unique as these are copies from A

only solution I can think of is to make a trigger on an insert to check what the instancetype is and do a select to see if the name already exists in the table or not..

are there other solutions to make a constraint like this ?

I have two tables in my database called CartItems and OrderItems. Istore all of a session's shopping cart items in the CartItems tableusing the sessionID as the identifier (called cartID in my DB). Unique Results Based On Popularity Voting

I've managed to get my query to this: Product | Color | Votes
======== ======= =======
Bus Red 10
Bus Blue 5
Train Blue 1Car Red 1
Car Blue 1
 
I need the most popular color of the product based on the votes for each product, so MAX(Votes) GROUP BY Product solves the Bus and the Train, but I still need a result for the Car? Not really that bothered which Color is picked up, do I need to run another query, because I need another table to join to the results.
 
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How To Delete Existing Data Based On Where Clause Condition

I have written a merge Statement where i am facing trouble to delete the data basing on Where Clause Condition.

1) Case 1 : For example i have inserted Data from Source to Target based on Date Key Condition.Take an Instance 10 Records Inserted.
2) Case 2 : For example some changes in the records and it has been updated through the Merge Statement .
3) Case 3 : For the Same Date key based on Conditions now three records has came and need to be inserted and rest should be deleted for that Date Key.

How i need to proceed on this before 10 records are not getting deleted and new records adding for that one

My Example Code :

Way To Hide Subreports Based On Item Existing In A Data Set.

My current report has around 40 subreports corresponding to tests executed by the user. There is a different sub report for each of the tests executed. I first developed the report by just putting the subreports directly on the main report. The problem is if some of my tests are not executed by the user I would like the subreports to not appear in the report.

I have tried doing this two different ways. First I tried creating a table and attaching that table to a dataset that I created that returns all the tests that were executed by the user. I then set up a filter that specified that the name for a specific subreport had to equal the test name. I then dropped the sub report for that particular test into the table. The idea is there would only be one row when data is available and no rows when no data is available so the subreport would not appear. When the data is available the subreport appears great. When it is not available and there is no item in the dataset for that test I get an error from SQL that states there was an internal reporting error and to check the SQL server log for more information. I know my table is set up correctly because when I replace the subreport with text the text will appear only if data is available for that test and the text does not appear if no data is available. I get no errors until I add the subreport and remove the data from the database so the filter does not return any items. Is there a reason why I would be getting this error? I am still pretty green using reporting services so I do not even understand how to get the log from the server to determine why this error is occuring.

Secondly I have tried to use an expression to hide the subreport using the visibility tab for the report. I was able to get this to work by creating a dataset that returns 1 if a specific test has been executed and no rows if not. I then created an expression that would return true if the dataset returned 1. This worked okay in hiding my subreport but I would then have to create 40 datasets, one for each test. Is there anyway to write an expression that would return true if a dataset contained a row with a specific test name? I have not been able to figure this out.

Can someone either help me fix the problem I am having with the table approach or write an expression that would work in the visibility setting for each sub report that did not require 40 datasets? Or is there another approach that I am not even thinking of that might work?

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Distribute Data Into Groups Based On Existing Numbers?

i've been looking at moving one of our processed from excel (+vba) into t-sql to make life easier but am stuck.

We have lots of tasks that are assigned to work groups which we want to distribute evenly across the work groups. This is a simple task for ntile.. However when these tasks are no longer required they are removed which leaves the groups uneven. When new tasks are added we want to still try to keep these groups balanced.

EG Existing groups :

GroupName - Task Count
Group1 - 1000
Group2 - 999
Group3 - 998

If we were to add 6 new tasks they would have more assigned to Group 2 & 3 as they have less than group 1.

Task 1 - Group3
Task 2 - Group3
Task 3 -Group2
Task 4 - Group1
Task 5 - Group2
Task 6 - Group3

SQL Server 2012 :: Update Table Based On Existing Values In Multiple Rows?

The objective is to identify orders where an order fee has been applied incorrectly. I have multiple orders per customer, my table contains an orderID and a customerID. Currently if the customer places additional orders before the previous orders have been closed/cancelled, then additional fees are being applied.

Let's say I'm comparing order #1 to order #2. I need to identify these rows where the following is true:-

The CustID is the same.

Order #2 has a more recent order date.

Order #2 has a FeeDate Before the CancelledDate of Order #1 (or Order #1 has no cancellation date).

So in the table the orderID:2835692 of CustID: 24643 has a valid order fee. But all the subsequently placed orders have fees which were applied before the first order was cancelled and so I want to update the FeeInvalid column with a 'Y'. The first fee will always be valid.

I think I understand why the code I am trying doesn't achieve the result I want but I can't figure out how to write it correctly. Below is one example of code I've tried and also code to create the table and insert some test data.
