Transact SQL :: Date Calculation - 7 Days Prior To Specified Day Of Last Week
Sep 8, 2015
I need to run a select on Mondays to pull data for 7 days prior to the Thursday of last week; i.e. Friday - Thursday inclusive. I'm sure this is simple, but I work with dates so infrequently that I need a refressher.

i have written a sql function which returns only number of working days (excludes holidays and Weekends) between given StartDate and EndDate.
USE [XXX]
GO
/****** Object: UserDefinedFunction [dbo].[CalculateNumberOFWorkDays] Script Date: 10/28/2015 10:20:25 AM ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
[code]...
I need a function or stored procedure which will return the date which is 15 working days (should exclude holidays and Weekends) prior to the given future Date? the future date should be passed as a parameter to this function or stored procedure to return the date. Example scenario: If i give date as 12/01/2015, my function or stored procedure should return the date which is 15 working days (should exclude holidays and Weekends) prior to the given date i.e 12/01/2015...In my application i have a table tblMasHolidayList where all the 2015 year holidays dates and info are stored.

I’m using DAX to calculate the prior MTD count of a specific column. My data ends on 2/8/2013 and that day's PriorMTD is incorrectly corresponding to 1/31/2013. Whereas, the previous 7 days in February correctly match their corresponding January dates..Below is an image of my pivot table and I have outlined the values in red that are in question.Below are my DAX formulas used each column visible in my image:
Distinct Count of Events:=DISTINCTCOUNT([EventID])CurrentMTD:=CALCULATE([Distinct Count of Events], DATESMTD(Events[EventDate]), ALL (dimDate) )PriorMTD:=CALCULATE([Distinct Count of Events], DATEADD(DATESMTD(Events[EventDate]), -1, MONTH), all(dimDate)) ParallelMonth:= CALCULATE ([Distinct Count of Events], ParallelPeriod(Events[EventDate], -1, MONTH), ALL(dimDate))

Hi,
I don't know if this can be done, but hopefully one of the experts in this forum cna help me out.
I have a TimeOff table which contains 5 fields: timeoffID, employeename, startdate, enddate, and timofftype. I need to create a report which shows how many people take sick day (one of the timeofftypes) on each week day (i.e. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and etc.) The problem is that I don't know how to convert the date range (from startdate to enddate) into indvidual week day for each timeoff record.
For example, on the table,
TimeoffID employeename startdate enddate timeofftype
1 Andy 11/02/2006 11/03/2006 Sick Day
2 Bill 11/03/2006 11/03/2006 Sick Day
The report needs to show:
Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday
0 0 0 1 2 0 0
Thank you in advance!

We are trying to compare our current calendar week (based on Monday being the first day of the week) with the previous calendar week.
I'm trying to produce a line chart with 2 axis:
- x axis; the day of the week (Mon, Tues, Wed etc - it is fine for this to be a # rather than text e.g. 1 = Mon, 2 = Tues etc)
- y axis; the cumulative number of orders
The chart needs two series:
Previous Week. The running count of orders placed that week.
Current Week. The running count of orders placed this week.
Obviously in such a chart the 'Current Week' series is going not going to have values along the whole axis until the end of the week. This is expected and the aim of the chart is to see the current week compares against the previous week for the same day.
I have two tables:
Orders TableCalendar Table
The calendar table's main date column is [calDate] and there are columns for the usual [calWeekNum], [calMonth] etc.
My measure for counting orders is simply; # Orders: = countrows[orders].
How do I take this measure and then work out my two series. I have tried numerous things such as adapting TOTALMTD(), following articles such as these:
- [URL] ...
- [URL] ...
But I have had no luck. The standard cumulative formulas do work e.g. if I wanted a MTD or YTD table I would be ok, it's just adjusting to a WTD that is causing me big issues.

I'm trying to calculate the time difference between a date field and today's date in days. The date field is not mandatory and can therefore be blank. I'm trying to execute the following query:
SELECT employee_code, Civil_ID, DATEDIFF(Day, Civil_ID, GETDATE())
FROM ODEV_VIEW_Credentials_Expiry_Dates
WHERE Civil_ID IS NOT NULL AND Civil_ID != ''
ORDER BY employee_code
I keep getting the following message:
The conversion of a varchar data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range value.
Warning: Null value is eliminated by an aggregate or other SET operation.
No matter what filter I use to process non-blank dates, it never works.

I have a calendar table against entire year 2015 with each day with 2 flag,
1. WK_DT_IN == except Satarday and Sunday, value is "Y", for Sat/Sun, value is "N"
2. HOL_DT_IN == value will only be "Y" only for holiday, example for '2015-01-01' date, it's value is "Y"
DECLARE @CAL TABLE (CAL_DT DATE, WK_DT_IN CHAR(1), HOL_DT_IN CHAR(1))
INSERT INTO @CAL VALUES ('2015-01-01', 'Y', 'Y'), ('2015-01-02', 'Y', 'N'),('2015-01-03', 'N', 'N'),
('2015-01-04', 'N', 'N'), ('2015-01-05', 'Y', 'N'), ('2015-01-06', 'Y', 'N'), ('2015-01-07', 'Y', 'N')
We have a given date, example '2015-01-01', I need to find out a date after 2 business days? I can think of loop, but will it work.
I need to exclude date which having HOL_DT_IN = "Y" and WK_DT_IN = "N".

I pass on 2 variables @currentdate and @currentdate-1 to the query which are in date format 'yyyymmdd'
I need to do this for last 15 days how do I do this using while loop.
Note my date format is YYYYMMDD.
DECLARE @SQL VARCHAR(MAX)
@sql = ' insert into target
select from table_1_currentdate a
LEFT JOIN Table_2_currentdate-1 b
on a.col1=b.col1 where b.col1 is null '
exec(@sql)
I have to use while loop and decrement it every time and load data for last 15 days comparing two tables. I tried so many times I am not getting it right .

I created a dbo.Calendar table that stores dates and a work day flag (1=work day, 0=non-work day) so I can use it to calculate the next business date from a date using a function. I'm using a while group to count only the work days and a couple other internal variables but I'm not sure if I can even use them in a function.
Assuming Sats & Suns are all non-work days in April 2014, if my @WorkDays = 10 for 10 work days and my @DateFromValue - 4/1/2014, I would expect my return date to be 4/15/2014.

Hi! I am totally new to the forum and to the SQL.
Need your advice. My report will run on Friday automatically and I need to retrieve the data from previous Friday until Today’s Friday.
I have an example from another developer’s code, but this one gets the data on the previous day. Can you please help me to right the expression?
Here is an example ‘on the previous day’
CAST(CONVERT(CHAR(10), tbl1.closeddate,120) as datetime) = CAST(CONVERT(CHAR(10), dateadd(day, -1,getdate()), 120) as datetime)
This is what I did (assuming today is Friday)
(tbl1.closedDate BETWEEN CAST(CONVERT(CHAR(10), DATEADD(day, - 8, GETDATE()), 120) AS datetime) AND CAST(CONVERT(CHAR(10),
DATEADD(day, - 1, GETDATE()), 120) AS datetime))
I don't get any records back.
Please help.
Thanks a lot.

Hi all - am developing my client statement report on my accounts application...
My accounts team need the ability to print off monthly statements for clients. I have done this no probs. I end up with a table of invoices (invoiceid, invoicedate, amount) in my report table. At the bottom of this table, they require the following table:
Current: £amount
30-60 Days: £amount
60-90 Days: £amount
90 + Days: £amount
basically, Say I print the report on 15th Feb. The Current value should be a sum of invoice totals from February. 30-60 Days should be a sum of invoices which were raised in Dec and Jan. 60 - 90 Days should be a sum of invoices raised between Oct and Nov. 90 Days should be a sum of invoices raised before Oct.
I'm assuming I grab the current month from Globals!ExecutionTime but where would I go from there?
Thanks in advance as usual guys :)
Stephen.

As I just need the highest value returned I'm attempting to use MAX. However, the problem is that all values are being returned in the DaysOfWeek column as 5 even though they may range anywhere from 1-7. The DaysOfWeek should be for a unique EmployeeID/ReportID combination.

would someone be able to shed some light as to why the date returned to my windows application does not match the date that is actually stored in the database. the products_soldDate field is assigned 1/1/1900 at the product records creation time and is updated when it's sold. when the windows application received that data and I check for it I get the following value 12/31/1899 11:00:00 PManyone has a clue as to what is happening here. It worked fine when I hosted it on a MS SQL 2000 database I just recently moved the data over to a SQL 2005 database

We were asked to fix a query to get rows from a prior year history table that did not match to rows in the current year to show a variance from one year to the next. Rows must match on [corpnbr],[plincd],[pgrpcd] and [pitmcd]. If the combination has rows in the current and prior year ([hstyr]) then everything is fine. However, if they have rows in the prior year (e.g. [hstyr]='2014') but not in the current year (e.g. [hstyr]='2015') then they do not show in the result. Below is how they designed the table and below that is the stored procedure to pull the records.
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[BillingHistory](
[BillingHistoryID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,

[plincd] [varchar](3) NULL,

My overall problem is to do some string manipulation and then DATEADD, but I still don't know why I getting what SQL is giving me.
To get the prior month, I use the following code;
SELECT
(
SELECT
RIGHT('00' + CAST(
CASE CAST(RIGHT(MAX(Eff_Period), 2) AS int) - 1
WHEN 0 THEN 12
ELSE CAST(RIGHT(MAX(Eff_Period), 2) AS int) - 1
END AS varchar(2)), 2)
)--, -- Month
--CAST(CAST(LEFT(MAX(Eff_Period), 4) AS int) - 1 AS varchar(4)) -- Year
FROM
Current_Membership;
This correctly gives me the proper month number for the prior month, in this case, '06' since the current month is '07.'
But, for debugging, I wanted to test to make sure it would properly adjust for January - '01' - by replacing MAX(Eff_Period) with '201501.'
It did. Worked fine. Then, to make really sure, I put in '201502.'
Instead of the single record of '01,' it shot out 177,209 rows of all '02's!
I put back in the MAX(Eff_Period) instead of the date string constant and, worked fine. Swapped back in the date string - boom! - 177,209 rows again.
Like I said, I can use DATEADD - Now I'm really confused. I changed the date string to '201501' just to verify before posting this, and it spit out 177,209 rows of '01's! So, to keep from altering things and to maintain the edit history, I started up another query and C&P'd everything to it. Then, on the original, I backed up to an earlier version, one that worked. That listing is the same as above, but the commented out comma in line 9 and the commented CAST in the line after it - to get the year - were uncommented.
Now, it works with both '201501' and '201502.' But, if I replace the comments, basically removing the CAST with the year, it slams back with 177,209 rows!

Hello gurus, I have a table of data containing stop and start times of equipment, such as this:
StartTime....................EndTime
12/01/01 15:44...........12/01/01 18:44
12/02/01 3:44............12/02/01 14:44
12/02/01 15:22...........12/02/01 15:33
etc.
With this, I can build a query that subtracts the start and end dates to give me the total differences between each record... But, how do I write a query that can count the elapsed time between the current record's "start time" and the prior record's "end time" to give me the elapsed time between each record?

I have two tables - one with dates at the end of each month (10/31, 11/30, 12/31, et al) that's linked to a data table containing client signups. While I can get the count per month in a pivot table, I'm trying to calculate the beginning count of each month.
How do I use calculate or something similar to sum the count of records created minus count of records closed prior to the beginning of the period?
The pivot looks like this right now and works by month:
beginning active records ?????
count of records created 100
count of records deleted 50
net records created 50
running balance in net records created 100 (theoretically the next month's beginning balance, but can't figure out how to reference or calculate)
