Transact SQL :: DateAdd Expressions And IIF Null?
May 22, 2015I have got this in my query,
WHERE (((tblVehicles.Veh_Parts_Date)>=DateAdd("m",-12,Date()))
How do I say IIF Null return values anyway?
I have got this in my query,

I'm running the following test query on a single table:
SELECT sph.datestamp, sph.stocksymbol, sph.closing, DATENAME(dw, sph.datestamp),
CASE DATENAME(dw, sph.datestamp)
WHEN 'Monday' then 'Monday'
ELSE (SELECT CAST(sph2.datestamp AS nvarchar) FROM BI_Test.dbo.StockDB AS sph2 WHERE sph2.DateStamp = DATEADD(d, -1, sph.datestamp) AND sph2.StockSymbol = 'NYA')
END AS TestCase,
[Code] ....
And here's an example of the output I'm getting:
Why the exact same subquery in the THEN of the second CASE statement is returning NULL when the first one completes as expected?
Salamo alikom,
when i write this sentence in textbox in reporting service 2005 :
= iif(DateAdd( "h",Parameters! t.Value,Fields! completionTime. Value),"" ,Fields!completi onTime.Value)
Because this column contain null value.
So how to ignore null value with dateadd
AnyBody Can Help me.
My overall problem is to do some string manipulation and then DATEADD, but I still don't know why I getting what SQL is giving me.
To get the prior month, I use the following code;
SELECT
(
SELECT
RIGHT('00' + CAST(
CASE CAST(RIGHT(MAX(Eff_Period), 2) AS int) - 1
WHEN 0 THEN 12
ELSE CAST(RIGHT(MAX(Eff_Period), 2) AS int) - 1
END AS varchar(2)), 2)
)--, -- Month
--CAST(CAST(LEFT(MAX(Eff_Period), 4) AS int) - 1 AS varchar(4)) -- Year
FROM
Current_Membership;
This correctly gives me the proper month number for the prior month, in this case, '06' since the current month is '07.'
But, for debugging, I wanted to test to make sure it would properly adjust for January - '01' - by replacing MAX(Eff_Period) with '201501.'
It did. Worked fine. Then, to make really sure, I put in '201502.'
Instead of the single record of '01,' it shot out 177,209 rows of all '02's!
I put back in the MAX(Eff_Period) instead of the date string constant and, worked fine. Swapped back in the date string - boom! - 177,209 rows again.
Like I said, I can use DATEADD - Now I'm really confused. I changed the date string to '201501' just to verify before posting this, and it spit out 177,209 rows of '01's! So, to keep from altering things and to maintain the edit history, I started up another query and C&P'd everything to it. Then, on the original, I backed up to an earlier version, one that worked. That listing is the same as above, but the commented out comma in line 9 and the commented CAST in the line after it - to get the year - were uncommented.
Now, it works with both '201501' and '201502.' But, if I replace the comments, basically removing the CAST with the year, it slams back with 177,209 rows!
I'm trying to return a query based on the dateadd function. I have a column in the database called date_added which is am successfully using the the DATEADD function above as date1. The Var1 variable I need to populate from the database too from a column called life_span which is an int data type. The error I get is An expression of non-boolean type specified in context where a condition is expected near select
My query is as follows: select guid, dateadd(day,life_span,date_added) as datepayday. From User_table
I have a query which works absolutely fine when connecting to an actual server:
WITH CLAIMDATA AS(
SELECT DISTINCT
DB_NAME() AS DBName,
'UA' AS Client,
POLICY AS KMPONO,
[code]...
If i change the connector to REPLPROD (which is a linked server): From REPLPROD.XUNMDTAUAI.dbo.UPPOREP UP INNER JOIN REPLPROD.XUNMDTAUAI.dbo.UKKMREP UK
I get the error:
Msg 8180, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Statement(s) could not be prepared.
Msg 125, Level 15, State 4, Line 1
Case expressions may only be nested to level 10.
I have below SQL. When I run it I get the 'Each GROUP BY expression must contain at least one column that is not an outer reference' error. The date and string expressions are generated dynamically and need to be grouped upon if possible. What am I missing?
INSERT INTO tblStaffPayrollHistory (StaffID, FromDate, ToDate, PayrollNo, EventID)
SELECT DISTINCT tblStaffBookings.StaffID, CONVERT(DATETIME, '2015-05-17', 102), CONVERT(DATETIME, '2015-05-17', 102), 'tree', tblEvents.ID
FROM tblStaffBookings INNER JOIN tblEvents ON tblStaffBookings.EventID = tblEvents.ID
WHERE ...
GROUP BY tblStaffBookings.StaffID, CONVERT(DATETIME, '2015-05-17', 102), CONVERT(DATETIME, '2015-05-17', 102), 'tree', tblEvents.ID
We have a case where in we should show date based on conditions for e.g if we had a column defined as
col varchar(10) then we would show col as 'NULL' for some condition and actual value when no condition
Normaly date values are stored here e.g under col 20150901 .
Case
when col>'20150901' then 'NULL'
else col
end as Derivedcol
Note this is an extract process and we are presenting data by pumping the data in a table .
Now there is another similar column -colz varchar(10) which stores date but doesnt have case condition so whenever date has no value its shows null which is database null.
So whats the difference between database null and string null ?
How can we show database null for the case condition instead of string "null"?
I want to have this query insert a bunch of XML but i get this error...
Msg 128, Level 15, State 1, Procedure InsertTimeCard, Line 117

Msg 128, Level 15, State 1, Procedure InsertTimeCard, Line 151
The name "DateWorked" is not permitted in this context. Valid expressions are constants, constant expressions, and (in some contexts) variables. Column names are not permitted.
What am i doing wrong...Can anyone help me out!! Thanks!!
p.s I know this query looks crazy...

I am using sql server 2012. suppose i have a table called cte which contains id and name columns . in name column there are null value . i want to display top row value instead of null value as like attached image. Here is query :
;with CTE As (
Select 1 as Id , 'Advance' as Name
union all
Select 2 as Id , NULL as Name
union all
Select 3 as Id , NULL as Name
[Code] ...
Expected Result :
I want to write normal select Query. i am not interest to using loop or cursor.
When building stored procs, I typically have several nullable parameters. Then in the where clause I will either do this
WHERE (@MyParam IS NULL OR MyColumn = @MyParam)
or this:
WHERE MyColumn = COALESCE(@MyParam, MyColumn)
Lately, I've noticed that either of these imposes a performance penalty. In other words, if I change the first one to
WHERE MyColumn = @MyParam
without the IS NULL, it is noticeably faster. If I only have one or two nullable parameters, I can separate the logic using IF/ELSE, but it becomes huge if I have a bunch of nullable params.I've looked at the execution plans.
I am using Visual Web Developer Express 2005 and SQL Server Express 2005.
I have set up a trigger that fires when an update has been performed on a specific table. The trigger checks to see if specific columns have been updated. If they have, then the trigger code is executed. This part works fine.
I am now trying to find a way to check if null values exist in either one of two field from the same table. If either field contains a null value, then I don't want the trigger code to be executed.
How can I check for null values and skip a block of code within my Transact Sql trigger.
Thanks.....

I have a table that keeps track of all changes that were performed in an application. There is a column called "old value" and column called "new value". There are some values in the application that don't require data therefore the "old value" or "new value" values can be empty. These columns are an nvarchar data type because the value can be text or numbers or dates. An example is "ReceivedDate". There is a report that is generated based on this table.
What is happening is the query in the report dataset is adding dates when it should be displaying empty. They query is using "CASE/WHEN/THEN". What I need is "When the column is "RecievedDate" and it is not null then convert it to a date". This is for formatting purposes.
This is an example of the table:
UpdateColumn
Old Value
New Value
ReceivedDate
7/8/2015 5:00:00 AM
ReceivedDate
7/8/2015 12:00:00 AM
7/9/2015 5:00:00 AM
ReceivedDate
7/9/2015 12:00:00 AM
So, the first time it was updated there was no value but it was replaced with July 8, 2015 and so on.This is what the report is displaying
This is the query:
CASE UpdateColumn
... WHEN 'ReceivedDate' THEN (replace(convert(varchar(11),CONVERT ( date, oldvalue ), 106), ' ', '-') )
...
I tried adding
CASE UpdateColumn
...
WHEN 'ReceivedDate' IS NOT NULL
THEN (replace(convert(varchar(11),CONVERT ( date, oldvalue ), 106), ' ', '-') )
...
But it did not like the "IS NOT NULL".
Using TSQL, I have a table that holds filenames of Pictures for products. Different products can be using the same picture. I need to select the filenames for a single product only if it does not exists for a different product.I have tried Where Exists (select FileName From Tbl where
Prod_Id = @var) AND NOT EXISTS(select FileName From Tbl where
Prod_Id != @var) In the Select Statement.
I have tried all possible combinations of changing this. But was not able to make the results tally.I am giving you a part of the query, there are others queries involving 4 tables which are based on this same temporary table query.
SELECT c.juris_id, b.jrnl_mo_yr

I have a table RequestUtility with 3 columns Vendor, name, system. I want to call this table from BizTalk so that I send multiple vendors and will get corresponding Vendor, name and system for that. As I need to send multiple vendors at the same time I have created a User-Defined Table type VendorNames with a single column Names. and have written a SP :
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[GetName]
-- Add the parameters for the stored procedure here
@vendorN VendorNames ReadOnly
AS
-- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from
-- interfering with SELECT statements.
SET NOCOUNT ON;
-- Select statements for procedure here
SELECT * from dbo.RequestUtility where Vendor IN (SELECT Names from @vendorN)
This is working fine when the value for vendor is present in the table. But if the value is not present it is not returning any thing. But, my requirement is that for example vendor is Dummy which is not present in the table so it should return
Vendor Name System
Dummy NULL NULL
But currently it is not returning anything.
How 'NULL' value is displaying after encrypting a stored procedure? links to know the procedure behind this how the encrypted procedure is storing and updating with NULL value under the same column after the encryption.

I've got a table with 6 fields :
EmployeeAccess
(MasterID, LoginID, AccessID, Storage1, Storage2, Storage3)
that needs to be updated using the data in the following spreadsheet
NewEmployeeAccessData
(ID, MasterID, AccessID1, LoginID1)
There is a 1:1 relationship between the two tables..I'm trying to code a pair of update statements on the EmployeeAccess table (1 for LoginID, 1 for AccessID) with the following logic:
If LoginID is NULL, then Update LoginID with new LoginID1 value,
If LoginID is not null, and Storage1 is NULL then Update Storage1 with New LoginID1 values
If LoginID is not null, and Storage1 is not NULL and Storage2 is NULL then Update Storage2 with New LoginID1 values
etc etc...
The same applies when trying to populate the AccessID column
If AccessID is NULL, then Update AccessID with new AccessID1 value,
If AccessID is not null, and Storage1 is NULL then Update Storage1 with New AccessID1 values
If AccessID is not null, and Storage1 is not NULL and Storage2 is NULL then Update Storage2 with New AccessID1 values
etc etc.
I have no control over the schema of this table so I'm trying to work the logic on how to update the columns in my table only if the corresponding column data is NULL, else update the next non NULL Storage column.
I have existing table which is having Set Quoted Identifier Off and Set Ansi Null

In the below scenario we are inserting some time related fields in Temp table.But its data type is varchar. Once data loading is finished in the temp table (Data is loading by source team SQOOP and they are unable to load if the source datatype is having Date or datetime) we have to alter the column datatypes. somehow, some character data in inserted in date columns (look at into 3rd insert statement). while altering the table it is failing. Can we do any alternative for this (Means if any varchar data that is non convertible to date can we make as null)

Hey. I need to substitute a value from a table if the input var is null. This is fine if the value coming from table is not null. But, it the table value is also null, it doesn't work. The problem I'm getting is in the isnull line which is in Dark green color because @inFileVersion is set to null explicitly and when the isnull function evaluates, value returned from DR.FileVersion is also null which is correct. I want the null=null to return true which is why i set ansi_nulls off. But it doesn't return anything. And the select statement should return something but in my case it returns null. If I comment the isnull statements in the where clause, everything works fine. Please tell me what am I doing wrong. Is it possible to do this without setting the ansi_nulls to off??? Thank you

Hope someone can help.
I've got to produce a report that filters information dependent on the purchase date based on various parameters.
The parameters are:
@yearend (Datetime)
@months(int)
the script that I wrote in SQL is
select assetno from assets where purch_date < = dateadd(mm,-@months, @yearend)
but when I try to use this in the dataset it comes up with the following error:
"Application usess a value of the wrong type for the current operation"
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Hi guys I am trying to convert this to date add because MS SqL and Jet SQL dont exactly speak the same language
=DateSerial(Year([FINALSUIT])4,Month([FINALSUIT]),Day([FINALSUIT]))
I am trying to calcuate the finalsuit date for every 2 years becasue that when employees have to get their gaming license renewed, so I'm trying to add the renewal year by 2 because they have to get it done every two years
If I am running a scheduled job at the first of the month and I want to run an update sequence for the previous month, i was essentially using this sql:
@startdate = dateadd(mm, -1, getdate())
@enddate = dateadd(dd, -1, getdate())
So, will the @enddate represent the last day in the previous month or will that not work?
