SQL Server 2012 :: Difference Between Two Dates (Excluding Weekends)

May 19, 2014

I have a table with a list of jobs along with their start and end datetime values.

I am looking for a function which will return the time taken to process a job using a start date and an end date. If the date range covers a Saturday or Sunday I want the time to ignore the weekends.

Example

Start Date=2014-05-15 12:00:00.000
End Date=2014-05-19 13:00:00.000

Total Time should be: 2 Days, 1 Hour and 0 Minutes

Remove Weekends And Non Working Days When Calculating Days Difference Between Two Dates

Jan 7, 2014

I have an SQL code below which removes weekends and non working days when calculating days difference between two dates:

ce.enquiry_time represents when the enquiry was logged

(DATEDIFF(dd, ce.enquiry_time, getdate()) + 1)
-(DATEDIFF(wk, ce.enquiry_time, getdate()) * 2)
-(CASE WHEN DATENAME(dw, ce.enquiry_time) = 'Sunday' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END)
-(CASE WHEN DATENAME(dw, getdate()) = 'Saturday' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END)
-(SELECT COUNT(*) FROM nonworking_day WHERE nonworking_day.nonworking_date >= ce.enquiry_time AND nonworking_day.nonworking_date < dateadd(dd,datediff(dd,0,getdate()),1))

It works but I don't understand how it works it out. I am having issues understanding each coloured piece of code and how it works together.

Calculate Date Difference Excluding Dates

Aug 27, 2012

I have already seen stored procedures that can calculate a difference in dates, excluding the weekends. Any extension of such a SQL query to exclude not only weekends, but other dates as well. We have a table of "holidays" (not necessarily standard holidays), and I am wondering if there is a way to exclude them from the calculation.

Excluding Weekends When Finding The (dd/hh/mm/ss) Between Two Dates

Mar 27, 2008

I have two datetime fields that I would like to find out how much time has passed between them. First field is "start date" and the second is "end date" the dates in both fields are in this format (03/27/2008 4:00PM). The problem I am having is I need to exclude the time passed from Friday, 6:00PM to Monday, 7:00AM if the dates happen to go over a weekend.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Transact SQL :: Calculating Date Difference In Days

Apr 16, 2015

I'm trying to calculate the time difference between a date field and today's date in days. The date field is not mandatory and can therefore be blank. I'm trying to execute the following query:

SELECT employee_code, Civil_ID, DATEDIFF(Day, Civil_ID, GETDATE())
FROM ODEV_VIEW_Credentials_Expiry_Dates
WHERE Civil_ID IS NOT NULL AND Civil_ID != ''
ORDER BY employee_code

I keep getting the following message:

The conversion of a varchar data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range value.

Warning: Null value is eliminated by an aggregate or other SET operation.

No matter what filter I use to process non-blank dates, it never works.

Any ideas on how to accomplish this task, and leverage the below, existing code?  Thanks in advance!

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Consecutive Streak Excluding Weekends

Aug 8, 2014

I'm trying to write an algorithm that returns the most recent and longest consecutive streak of positive or negative price changes in a given stock. The streak can extend over null weekends, but not over null weekdays (presumably trading days).

For example, lets say Google had end of day positive returns on (any given) Tuesday, Monday, and previous Friday, but then Thursday, it had negative returns. That would be a 3 day streak between Friday and Tuesday. Also, if a date has a null value on a date that is NOT a weekend, the streak ends.

In the following code sample, you can get a simplified idea of what the raw data will look like and what the output should look like.

set nocount on
set datefirst 7
go
if object_id('tempdb.dbo.#raw') is not null drop table #raw
create table #raw

[Code] .....

I should also mention that this has to be done over about half a million symbols so something RBAR is especially unappealing.

Transact SQL :: Total Number Of Days Between Two Dates By Year?

I am currently working on a T-Sql query(Sql server 2008) to calculate total no of days between date ranges by year

Table:

Start Date End Date
01/01/2013 04/30/2014
11/01/2014 05/31/2015
06/01/2015 12/31/2015

My expected result.

2013 - 365
2014 - 181
2015 - 365

Note:

Date range can span b/w  multiple years

Date ranges will not overlap

I just want the total number of days covered by the range for each year.

Is there any simple way to do this calculation.

How To Get Date Difference In Terms Of Year,month,days

Mar 31, 2008

I am using oracle 10G DB as back end.I have two date fields in a table.

1)premium_paying_start_date

2)premium_paying_end_date

i have to get the premium_term i.e, the difference between the two dates(premium_paying_end_date-premium_paying_start_date).

The difference should show the year,month and no of days difference.

For example :

premium_paying_start_date : 14-10-1984

premium_paying_end_date : 01-03-2008

Difference should be : 23 Y : 4 M : 15 D (Y = years, M = months , D= days)

So please give me the solution for this.

Date Difference For Multiple Dates

A request can go on and off Hold multiple times, how do I determine the days a request is On Hold?

I know I can use the sql function DATEDIFF ( datepart , startdate , enddate ), but how do I account for the possiblity that the request was On Hold more than once? And how would I get LOG_DATESTAMP' times for 'LOG_COMMENTS' that contain 'Status changed from Open to On Hold' and 'Status changed from On Hold to Open''?

My issues are:

1. Avoid the "division by zero" error. This can occur if a school is closed for a day or if a smaller school has no absences for a day.

2. Avoid weekend dates. I need the query to display only weekdays

3. Currently I am using "PERCENTAGE 5: as a column header whereas I need the actual date as the header.

Transact SQL :: Check If A Date Is Within A Range Of Dates?

Aug 20, 2015

Basically, I have a membership table that lists each member with an effective period, Eff_Period, that indicates a month when a member was active. So, if a member is active from Jan to Mar, there will be three rows with Eff_Periods of 201501, 201502 and 201503.

All well and good.But, a member may not necessarily have continuous months for active membership. They might have only been active for Jan, Feb and Jun. That would still give them three rows, but with noncontinuous Eff_Periods; they'd be 201501, 201502 and 201506.There is also a table that logs member activity. It has an Activity_Date that holds the date of the activity - betcha didn't see that comin'. What I'm trying to do is determine if an activity took place during a period when the member was active.

My original thought was to count how many rows a member has in the Membership table and compare that number to the number of months between the MIN(Eff_Period) and the MAX(Eff_Period). If the numbers didn't matchup, then I knew that the member had a disconnect somewhere; he became inactive, then active again. But, then I thought of the scenario I detailed above and realized that the counts could match, but still have a discontinuity.So, is there a nifty little SQL shortcut that could determine if a target month is contained within a continuous or discontinuous list of months?
