Transact SQL :: How To Insert Dynamic Column Values Of A Table To Variables

Jul 18, 2015

I am trying to insert different number of columns into variables.  This is what it does If I use a static columns.

declare @AccountType nvarchar(10)
declare @Total numerical(15,2)
declare @1 numerical (15,2)
declare @2 numerical (15,2)
declare @3 numerical (15,2)

#MonthtoDate  temp table is created using a dynamic pivot query.

Data looks like this :

Account Type  1 2
3 Total
Type 1 3
0 4 7
Type 2 5
7 1 13

Select @AccountType = AcctType , @Total = MonthToDate, @1 = [1], @2 = [2], @3 = [3]  from #MonthtoDate

However the issue is with [1],[2],[3] columns. Those are the number of days of the month. If today is the 3rd day of the month, we only need to show 3 days. So the final table has column [1],[2],[3] and @AccountType and @Total .

We want to run this query everyday to get the moth to date values. If we run this tomorrow, it will have 4 date columns [1], [2],[3],[4] and @AccountType and @Total .

Transact SQL :: How To Insert Values From One Table To Another

Sep 17, 2015

I am trying to insert values from a temp table #TableName to a db table.

CATEGORY table- CategoryId, CategoryName, CategoryDescription

Then I did this :
Select CategoryName
into #TableName
from CATEGORY

Now I'm doing this :
Insert into #TestTable values(1,'This is:'+CategoryName)
select CategoryName from #Test
CategoryID right now is not PK.

So, the intention is to insert as many CategoryNames available into TestTable with id 1 and category name edited as shown in Inset statement.

What is wrong with this query. Its not working.

Aug 21, 2015

I have 3 variables that gets comma separated values. My requirement is to get them into a temporary table with 3 columns and each column should have single value. E.g. if

Declare @SID varchar(max),@CID VARCHAR(MAX),@KID VARCHAR(MAX)
Set @SID='1,2,3,4'
Set @CID='6,7,8,9'
Set @KID='A,BB,CCC,DDDD'

--Now my requirement is to get them in a temp table with 3 column and different rows as per comma separated values in variables.

Now my requirement is to get them in a temp table with 3 columns and different rows (as per number of comma separated values in variables) E.g.

16A
27BB
38CCC

Transact SQL :: Populate Column On Insert Based On Value From Another Table

Jul 26, 2015

I have the following 2 tables:

Table: char_active  Columns: name, classID, hp

What I want to do is insert a new row into char_active using the name and classID column, and have the HP column auto populate based on the corresponding value in the classes table. This is the trigger I wrote but I'm getting the error

Incorrect syntax near 'inserted'.

I'm new to sql, this is actually the first trigger I've tried writing.

create trigger new_hp on curr_chars.char_active
instead of insert
as
declare @hp tinyint
select @hp=lists.classes.hp from lists.classes where lists.classes.classID=inserted.classID
insert into curr_chars.char_active (name, classID, hp) inserted.name, inserted.classID, @hp

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Stored Procedure To Truncate And Insert Values In Table 1 And Update And Insert Values In Table 2

Apr 30, 2015

table2 is intially populated (basically this will serve as historical table for view); temptable and table2 will are similar except that table2 has two extra columns which are insertdt and updatedt

process:
1. get data from an existing view and insert in temptable
2. truncate/delete contents of table1
3. insert data in table1 by comparing temptable vs table2 (values that exists in temptable but not in table2 will be inserted)
4. insert data in table2 which are not yet present (comparing ID in t2 and temptable)
5. UPDATE table2 whose field/column VALUE is not equal with temptable. (meaning UNMATCHED VALUE)

* for #5 if a value from table2 (historical table) has changed compared to temptable (new result of view) this must be updated as well as the updateddt field value.

Transact SQL :: Convert Certain Row Values To Next Column Values

Jul 9, 2015

I have a table with 2 columns and my source data looks like this..

PolicyNum   InsCode

1ABC12          1001
1ABC12          1002
1ABC12          1003
1ABC12          1004
1ABC12          1005

[Code] ....

My output should look like this..I need T-sql to get below output.

PolicyNum   InsCode1   InsCode2

1ABC12             1001       1005
1ABC12             1002       1006
1ABC12             1003       1004
1ABC20             1001       1005

[Code] ...

Basically it's converting certain row values to new column. Every PloicyNum will have 1001 to 1006 Fixed InsCode values as a group.

Rule-1: InsCode value 1001 should always mapped to 1005
InsCode value 1002 should always mapped to 1006
InsCode value 1003 should always mapped to 1004

Rule-2: For a policyNum, If any Inscode value is missed from the group values 1001 to 1006, still need to mapped with corresponding values as shown in Rule-1

In the above sample data..

for PolicyNum - 1ABC20 , group values 1003,1006 are missing
for PolicyNum - 1ABC25 , group values 1002,1003,1004,1005,1006 are missing

Create Table sampleDate (PolicyNum varchar(10) not null, InsCode Varchar(4) not null)
Insert into Sample Date(PolicyNum, InsCode) Values ('1ABC12','1001')

Insert into Sample Date(PolicyNum, InsCode) Values ('1ABC12','1002')
Insert into Sample Date(PolicyNum, InsCode) Values ('1ABC12','1003')

XML With Dynamic Attributes Based On Column Values

Apr 10, 2007

I have been banging my head against the wall for TWO days. I have
gone back and forth with a very patient guy on thescripts.com. You
can see the ridiculous thread here

http://www.thescripts.com/forum/threadnav628777-1-10.html

If you have time, at least peruse that so we don't go in circles.
Anyway, if you guys can help me solve this, I will be forever
grateful!!

Here is the "basic" problem:

Here is an example for TWO different entities in the database.

EntityID XmlFieldName Value
1 City Austin
1 State TX
1 Country US
2 CityName Los Angeles
2 StateCode CA
2 CountryCode US
2 Zip 111111

Here is how the two different results should be

where EntityID = 1
<Address City="Austin" State="TX" Country="US"/>

where EntityID = 2
<Address CityName="Los Angeles" StateCode="TX" CountryCode="US"
Zip="111111"/>

Notice how the attribute names (City or CityName, State or StateCode,
etc) are based off the XmlFieldName and I don't know in advance what
the possible values will be? I also don't know how many attributes
there will be, but they can be different per entity, depending on how
they have set up an address in our application.

Another thing to note, is that I kind of have this working in an sproc
using PIVOT and generating a table with the values that have the
correct dynamic column names (you can see this on my other thread I
posted above) but I REALLY need this to not use dynamic SQL (so can
use it in a function) if possible and be able to be used in a select
statement, whether it be a temp table as I would like to get a result
set back that I can do a FOR XML RAW on. If this is confusing, it is
because I am delerious. OR is there a way to return a table from an
SPROC that has dynamic columns built?

Please help!! Thanks so much!!!

Inserting Global Variables Storing Values In A Table

Oct 5, 2006

Hi,

I need a resolution of the following issue:

Following SQL is to be inserted in an audit table :

INSERT INTO GLOBAL_VARIABLE_LOAD

([LOAD_ID]

,[LOAD_STATUS]

,[START_TIME]

,[END_TIME])

VALUES

(@P_LOAD_ID

,@P_LOAD_STATUS

,@P_START_TIME

,@P_END_TIME)

@P_LOAD_ID, @P_LOAD_STATUS, @P_START_TIME, @P_END_TIME are the 4 parameters mapped to global variables (At package Level) which store values mapped in a previous SQL Task in my control flow.

Following Error Message is thrown on executing the SQL Task:

Invalid object name 'GLOBAL_VARIABLE_LOAD'.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.

Can anyone guide me as to how should I go about saving values in global variables and inserting them in a table.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Aman
