I have a web form that I use to insert data into a sql database. I want to know how to prevent inserting duplicate records into the database. Thanks.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a table that "Geography" that has the following columns: city, state, zip
There are tons of duplicate cities in this table. I ran this query and it shows me the number of occurrences of each city. I want to delete all the duplicates except for 1. I don't want to do this manually as there are a lot of records.
What would the SQL look like to delete the duplicate records but keep at least one?
I have this table:
id | Name | Age
==================
1 | AAA | 22
1 | AAA | 22
2 | BBB | 33
2 | BBB | 33
2 | BBB | 33
3 | CCC | 44
4 | DDD | 55
I need to delete from this table all the duplicate records and leave only one record. The table will looks like this:
id | Name | Age

1 | AAA | 22
2 | BBB | 33
3 | CCC | 44
4 | DDD | 55

I have a requirement where i want to delete the records based on the Date column. I have table which contain the columns like machinename ,lasthardwarescandate
I want to delete the records based on the max(Lasthardwarescandate) i.e. latest one, column where the machine name is duplicate menace it repeats. So how would i remove the duplicate machine names based on the Lasthardwarescandate column(There are multiple entries for the Lasthardwarescandate so i want to fetch the latest date column).
Note: Duplication should be removed based on “Last Hardware Scan” date.
Only latest date should be considered from multiple records for the same system. "

Hello,
I have the following Query:
1 declare @StartDate char(8)2 declare @EndDate char(8)3 set @StartDate = '20070601'4 set @EndDate = '20070630'5 SELECT Initials, [Position], DATEDIFF(mi,[TimeOn],[TimeOff]) AS ProTime6 FROM LogTable WHERE 7 [TimeOn] BETWEEN @StartDate AND @EndDate AND8 [TimeOff] BETWEEN @StartDate AND @EndDate9 ORDER BY [Position],[Initials] ASC
The query returns the following data:
Position Initials ProTime -------------------------------------------------- -------- ----------- ACAD JJ 127 ACAD JJ 62 ACAD KK 230 ACAD KK 83 ACAD KK 127 ACAD TD 122 ACAD TJ 127
What I'm having trouble with is the fact that I need to return a results that has the totals for each set of initials for each position. For Example, the final output that I'm looking to get is the following:
Postition Initials ProTime
ACAD JJ 189ACAD KK 440ACAD TD 122ACAD TJ 127
Any assistance greatly appreciated.
any idea?
quick query duplicate records (speicifed fields.value are same) using T-SQL?
How can I prevent duplicate inserts or entries to a table?
Thank you.
Note: I am using SQL Server and coding ASP.net pages in VB.
How do I update a record that has duplicates. For example, I have 3612 orders some of these orders have multiple orderid's I want to update the record for each of these orders that was added most recently.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy query wants to insert new supplier if there is any. And it should ignore, if the supplier is already present in the table. But it is trying to insert the supplier which is already available. For example, I have PART A with 2 suppliers ABC and DEF. I am getting data from third party for PART A with supplier DEF. As per the condition, it should ignore the record because DEF is already available . But my query is trying to insert supplier DEF and following that, I am getting primary constraint error.

I have a table storing only 2 FKs, let's say PID, MID
Is there any way that I can check distinct data before row is added to this table?
For example, current data is
PID MID------------100 2001100 2005101 3002102 1009102 7523102 2449
If my query is about to insert PID 100, MID 2001, since it's existing data, i don't want to add it. Can I use trigger to solve this issue?
Thanks.
I have an ASP.Net Web appplication with a Back-End SQL DB. There are 3 Tables; Users, Groups, and GroupMember.
The GroupMember table is used to link Users to Groups and consists of just two fields; userID and GroupID.
Here is a sample of some data:
User1 Group1
User1 Group2
User2 Group2
User3 Group1
User3 Group3
Users can belong to multiple Groups. However, you shouldn't be able to have the same user and group comobination more than once. for example:
User1 Group1
User2 Group2
User1 Group1
I can stop this kind of duplicate data entry by doing a lookup first (using asp.net) to see if the entry already exists but this seems cumbersome.
Is there a simpler way to prevent duplicate entries in a table using sql?
Thanks a lot,
Chris

I have a SQL query I need to design to select name and email addressesfor policies that are due and not renewed in a given time period. Theproblem is, the database keeps the information for every renewal inthe history of the policyholder. The information is in 2 tables, policy and customer, which share thecustid data. The polno changes with every renewal Renewals in 2004would be D, 2005 S, and 2006 L. polexpdates for a given customer couldbe 2007-03-21, 2006-03-21, 2005-03-21, and 2004-09-21, with polno of1234 (original policy), 1234D (renewal in 2004), 1234S (renewal in2005), and 1235L (renewed in 2006).The policy is identified in trantype as either 'rwl' for renewal, or'nbs' for new business. The policies would have poleffdates of 2004-03-21 (original 6 monthpolicy) 2004-09-21 (first 6 month renewal) , 2005-03-21 (2nd renewal,1 year), 2006-03-21(3rd renewal, 1 yr).I want ONLY THE LATEST information, and keep getting earlyinformation. My current query structure is:select c.lastname, c.email, p.polno, p.polexpdatefrom policy p, customer cwhere p.polid = c.polidand p.polexpdate between '2006-03-01 and 2006-03-31and p.polno like '1234%s'and p.trantype like 'rwl'and c.email is not nullunionselect c.lastname, c.email, p.polno, p.polexpdatefrom policy p, customer cwhere p.polid = c.polidand p.polexpdate between '2006-03-01 and 2006-03-31and p.polno like '1234%'and p.trantype like 'nbs'and c.email is not nullHow do I make this query give me ONLY the polno 123%, or 123%Sinformation, and not give me the information on policies that ALSOhave 123%L policies, and/ or renewal dates after 2006-03-31?Adding a 'and not polexpdate > 2006-03-31' does not work.I am working with SQL SERVER 2003. Was using SQL Server 7, but foundit was too restrictive, and I had a valid 2003 licence, so I upgraded, and still could not do it (after updating the syntax - things likeusing single quotes instead of double, etc)I keep getting those policies that were due in the stated range andHAVE been renewed as well as those which have not. I need to get onlythose which have NOT been renewed, and I cannot modify the database inany way.*** Free account sponsored by SecureIX.com ****** Encrypt your Internet usage with a free VPN account from http://www.SecureIX.com ***
View 24 Replies View RelatedI am wanting to create a query so that I can combine each of the found duplicates into one entry.
An example of this is:
Name |ID |Tag |Address |carNum
-------------------------------------------------------
Bob Barker |2054| 52377 |235 Some road |9874
Bill Gates |5630| 69471 |014 Washington Rd. |3700
Bob Barker |2054| 97011 |235 Some road |9874
Bob Barker |2054| 40019 |235 Some road |9874
Steve Jobs |8501| 73051 |100 Infinity St. |4901
John Doe |7149| 86740 |7105 Bull Rd. |9282
Bill Gates |5630| 55970 |014 Washington Rd. |3700
Tim Boons |6370| 60701 |852 Mnt. Creek Rd. |7059
In the example above, Bob Barker and Bill gates are both in the database more than once so I would like the output to be the following:
Bob Barker |2054|52377/97011/40019|235 Some road |9874
Bill Gates |5630|69471/55970 |014 Washington Rd.|3700
Steve Jobs |8501|73051 |100 Infinity St. |4901
John Doe |7149|86740 |7105 Bull Rd. |9282
Tim Boons |6370|60701 |852 Mnt. Creek Rd. |7059
Notice how Bob Barker & Bill Gates appends the tag row (the duplicated data) into one row instead of having multiple rows. This is because I do not want to have to check the previous ID and see if it matches the current id and append to the data.
I have three tables, Accounts, AccountCustomer and Customers, and the data-relationshiop between are defined according to the image below:
I created also a query (the sql-query below), displaying the customers for every account that is on the table "Accounts", and I got the results, as we can see in the image below:
SELECT A.AccountID,
c.CustomerNo,
c.Surname,
c.Name,
c.TaxNum
FROM Accounts A
left join AccountCustomer ac on ac.AccountID = A.AccountID
left join Customers c on c.CustomerNo = ac.CustomerNo
order by A.AccountID;
As we understand, an "AccountID" have multiple customers, so I want to transform tha multiple results to one row, grouping by AccountID (one account belongs to one or many Customers), like the image below:
I tried to use row_number()-expression to get this, but I didn't make it. So my question is, how can I alter my sql-query to get the final result like image above?
Hi,I need to enforce that a table does not have "duplicates" for aspecific status type in the table. If the column "STATUS" = 2, then there can not be more than one rowwith a specific "ID" column.I can not use a unique key constraint because duplicate values for thiscombo of columns is valid for the status = 1.Just when the status = 2, there can not be any other rows with the sameID and status = 2.Any ideas?-Paul
View 3 Replies View RelatedGood day!
I just can't figure out how I can display only the top record for the duplicate records in my table.
Example:
Table1
Code Date
01 10/1/05
01 10/2/05
01 10/3/05
02 9/9/05
02 9/9/05
02 9/10/05
My desired result would be:
Table1
Code Date
01 10/1/05
02 9/9/05
Thanks.
I'm trying to do some analysis on duplicate records based off of several match keys. I have a data set of approximately 30,000 people and the goal is to determine how many duplicate matches are in the system.
How would I write an SQL statement that looks for the following pieces of information. (I'm not using one person as an example; I need to do an analysis on the entire data set)
First name (exact match)
Last name (exact match)
Address line 1 (exact match)
Postal code/zip (exact match)
First Initial (exact match)
Last name (exact match)
DOB exact match
Postal code/zip (exact match)

What I would like to do is to have a TSQL Select return the number of records in the Result as if TOP (n) had not been used. Example:I have a table called Orders containing more than 1.000 records with OrderDate = '2015/07/21' and my client application has a threshold for returning records at 100 and therefore the TSQL would look like
SELECT TOP (100) * FROM Orders Where OrderDate = '2015/07/21' ORDER by OrderTime Desc
Now I would like to "tell" the client that only 100 of 1.000 records are shown in the client application grid. Is there a way to return a value indicating that if TOP (100) had not been used the resultset would have been 1.000. I know I could create the same TSQL using COUNT() (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM Orders Where OrderDate = '2015/07/21' ORDER by OrderTime Desc) and return that in a variable in the SELECT statement or even creating the COUNT() as a subquery and return it as a column, but I would like to avoid running multiple TSQL's. Since SQL Server already needs to select the entire recordset and sort it (ORDER BY) and return only the first 100 the total number of records in the initial snapshot must somehow be available.
This one is making my head hurt! Trying to figure out how to query for records between date range. The records have a start_date and an end_date field. The end_date field maybe null.
For example, say you wanted to see the records of everyone checked into a hotel during a given date range. You need to account for the people that checked in before you @start_date parameter and may check out after your @end_date parameter.
fyi- As for the null end_date field, think of this as they have checked in and not sure when they will checkout yet.
I have triggers in place on a table that do various checks on data input. It is clear that because of these triggers I cannot do updates on multiple records in this table. When I do, I receive an error that "subquery returned more than one value." Is there anyway to work around this by temporarily turning off triggers or something else?
Many thanks for advice.
How could I prevent a stored procedure from getting deleted?

I have a a Group By query which is working fine aggregating records by city. Now I have a requirement to focus on one city and then group the other cities to 'Other'. Here is the query which works:
Select [City]= CASE WHEN [City] = 'St. Louis' THEN 'St. Louis' ELSE 'Other Missouri City' END, SUM([Cars]) AS 'Total Cars'
From [Output-MarketAnalysis]
Where [City] IN ('St. Louis','Kansas City','Columbia', 'Jefferson City','Joplin') AND [Status] = 'Active'
Group by [City]
Here is the result:
St. Louis 1000
Kansas City 800
Columbia 700
Jefferson City 650
Joplin 300
When I add this Case When statement to roll up the city information it changes the name of the city to 'Other Missouri City' however it does not aggregate all Cities with the value 'Other Missouri City':
Select [City]= CASE WHEN [City] = 'St. Louis' THEN 'St. Louis' ELSE 'Other Missouri City' END, SUM([Cars]) AS 'Total Cars'
From [Output-MarketAnalysis]
Where [City] IN ('St. Louis','Kansas City','Columbia', 'Jefferson City','Joplin') AND [Status] = 'Active'
Group by [City]
Here is the result:
St. Louis 1000
Other Missouri City 800
Other Missouri City 700
Other Missouri City 650
Other Missouri City 300
What I would like to see is a result like:
St. Louis 1000
Other Missouri City 2450
Hi all I'm using Sql server 2000 and sometimes i need to run my Queries in Query analizer before using them in my application just to test them...BUT most of the time when i run a query in query-analizer for second time ,query analizer populates the result (records) more quicker then the first time. Apparently it caches the query !!! i don't know but for some reasons i dont't want this , so how can i prevent Query-analizer from doing so?
Thanks in advance. Regards.
