In t-sql 2012, I have the following sql that I would like the following to occur:
1. commit or rollback a transaction based upon the results of a calculation listed below,
2. I would like to have a message appear if the commit was successful or the rollback needed to occur. I basically want a way to be able to tell from messages if a rollback occurred or a commit happened.

SQL Server 2000, C#, ASP.NET and ADO.NET. I have searched for 3 days trying to figure out why my ADO.NET Transaction executes my stored procedures and runs the .COMMIT() on the server, figured this out by using the SQL Profiler, but the data doesn't show up in the database tables and I recieve no error from SQL or ASP.NET. What gives???? Anyone else ever heard of such a thing. Please help, before I loose my sanity.

I have a list of items (actually a relation in which a user has selected an item, along with a rating for the item) in an Access database table, connected to my app with a SqlDataSource and bound to a repeater. The repeater displays the items to the user along with a dropdown box to show the rating, and allow the user to update it. The page connects and displays correctly.
My problem is that when the user submits the page and I iterate through the repeater items to update each rating, the updates are not being completed in the database. The update works if I hard-code a value for the rating into the query itself, but not when using an updateparameter (pTaskRating below). In other words if I replace pTaskRating with '5', all the correct records will be found and have their ratings updated to 5. That means that the mySurveyId and pTaskId(DefaultValue) parameters have to be working, because the right records are found, but I can't seem to update records based on the DefaultValue of the pTaskRating parameter, even though I can verify that the DefaultValue is correct by placing a watch on it. It seems that my problem must be in my use of that particular parameter in the query, either in properties of the parameter or in the value assigned to it. I am extremely frustrated - any ideas would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The qry has been performed with no error. Then I execute SELECT * FROM ProgettoTracce WHERE ID_Progetto = 3444 and I find the value I tried to overwrite with NULL. If I update with 0 (for example) it works.
Obviously this happens on the production db, because on the development db the update with NULL works fine.
No transaction is called, db options are the same on dbs...
What's happen? Have I to call an exorcist???

We recently migrated from SQL Server 7 to SQL Server 2005. Now there's a curious thing with some legacy applications. I have pasted some code below. Don't judge me, because like I said, it's legacy.
You can see, that I have two connection strings. One is commented and accessing via SQL Native Client. The other one is doing this through the old SQL Server driver. Funnily enough, when I use the new Native Client driver, the exception "Run-time error '-2147467259 (80004005)' [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Invalid attribute value" is thrown in the rsPorder2.Update line. With the old driver, this works just alright.
Is this a bug? Is there a way, to make the code run, because we don't want to search the whole application for other occurances, if not necessary.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

When I ran this T-SQL statement in SSMS; I don't get any error and as expected, I can see new data in [dbo].
[tbl_FG_Alert_Count_All_Report] table.
Now I created one job with same T-SQL Statement. Job completes successfully with out giving any error message; But unfortunately I don't see any new data in [dbo].[tbl_FG_Alert_Count_All_Report] table. What would be the reason that I don't see new data when job completes successfully but I can see new data after executing same T-SQL statement in SSMS?

Recently I have been trying to write a script in order to redo this entire database, it's actually only about rectifying column and table names as well as a few erroneous relations, etc. The idea is that the actual data is okay it's just the organization that is completely messed up (spaces in column and table names, etc.)
Anyway my problem is this, a part of this script is about mass-renaming columns and tables the code is as follows in the Query Analyzer:

When I barely analyze the code (Ctrl+F5) it gives me the following error:

Ligne 2 : syntaxe incorrecte vers 'sp_rename'.
Which would roughly translate into:
Server : Msg 170, Level 15, State 1, Line 2
Line 2 : Incorrect syntax near 'sp_rename'
When I execute it, it gives the same error. Why does it do that when i give it the two lines while if i enter the lines one by one it works just fine. How is a SCRIPT supposed to work if I have to "baby-feed" every statement separately.

How do I make use of begin transaction and commit transaction in SSIS.
As am not able to commit changes due to certain update commands I want to explicitly write begin and commit statements. but when i make use of begin and commit in OLEDB commnad stage it throws an error as follows:
Hresult:0x80004005
descriptionyntax error or access violation.
its definately not an syntax error as i executed it in sql server. also when i use it in execute sql task out side the dataflow container it doesnt throw any error but still this task doesnt serve my purpose of saving/ commiting update chanages in the database.

The update statement is not working in my application, no error in C# and no error in ms-access. When I paste the update query into the ms-access query tool and replace the parameter values (@....) with real values, is will update the record.
What am I overseeing here?

if it encounters any errors in the SELECT,UPPDATE,DELETE ..statements which I have with the transaction one.
IF not How do I roll back if it encounters any erros b/w the BEGIN TRANSACTION and END TRANSACTION.

I had thought that if any statement failed within a BEING TRANS .. COMMIT TRANS block, then all the statements would be rolled back. But I am seeing different behavior (SQL Server 2000 8.00.2039)
For instance, run these statements to set up a test:
--DROP TABLE testTable1

Now try to run these statements:

..the first insert fails on the unique index.. but the second insert succeeds. Shouldn't the second insert roll back? How can I make two operations atomic?

I need to update more than one record at once. I have ~ 100 records that I have to update and don't want to execute query 100 times.
My query looks like this:

It obviously failed because subquery returned more than one value and error message stated that I can't use '=' operator in this case.
My question: how could I update the same column from many records in one execution?

The transactionOption for the tasks in the container are set to Supported. After this container I have put some other tasks (like a script task and an send mail task). This last 2 tasks have a TransactionOption set to Not Supported.
I have done this this way because if something goes wrong in the Sequence Container everthing in this container will be rollbacked. This work fine! But if one of the last 2 task goes wrong (the tasks after the container) everthing in the container is also rollbacked. I don't know why this is happening. Can you help me with this?

Our testing server experienced a timeout exception when execute System.Data.SqlClient.SqlTransaction.Commit() in SQL Server 2000 thru .Net Framework 1.1. And this happened at 2007-02-13 18:07:05,954.
It was strange to us that all the insert statement can be executed without error within the transaction but the commit operation fails.
Moreover, after about 40 minutes, we found that the transaction log of this database is full.

We have control table which will be useful whether we need to start the job or not. If we are starting the Job we will make it to 1.
Below is the Table Structure.

Now we have different packages for 4 tables data loading. These 4 packages will start at a time. Before going to load the data we have to make the Flag to 1 and after that we have to load it. Because of this we have written Update statement to update the Value to 1 in respective Package.
Now we are getting dead lock because we are using same table at a same time. Because we are updating different records.
