Duplicate Removal And Intelligent T-SQL

Jul 20, 2005

I am looking for some T_SQL code that would help us eliminateduplicate data entry into our mailing db. Finding and removing theexisting dups is not rocket science, but I am looking for a completesolution. We also want to be able to come up with a T-SQL script to beintelligent enough to know if:"Bill Jones" is the same as "Billy Jones" or"Bill Jones" is the same as "William Jones" or"Bill Jones at 123 My street" is the same as "Bill Jones at 123 MySt."Purchasing scripts from a company is not out of the question. Its amatter of script cost versus my hourly rate to create them... Needlessto say, something cheap. We have only heard of one app that is dynamic enough to handle this, and the cost was way, way out of our range, 6 figures is almost 2years salary.Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Transact SQL :: Remove Duplicate Records But Keep At Least 1 Record

Dec 3, 2010

I have a table that "Geography" that  has the following columns: city, state, zip

There are tons of duplicate cities in this table.  I ran this query and it shows me the number of occurrences of each city.  I want to delete all the duplicates except for 1.  I don't want to do this manually as there are a lot of records.

What would the SQL look like to delete the duplicate records but keep at least one?

I want to delete the records based on the max(Lasthardwarescandate) i.e. latest one, column where the machine name is duplicate menace it repeats. So how would i remove the duplicate machine names based on the Lasthardwarescandate column(There are multiple entries for the Lasthardwarescandate so i want to fetch the latest date column).

Note: Duplication should be removed based on “Last Hardware Scan” date.

Only latest date should be considered from multiple records for the same system. "

Transact SQL :: Retrieve All Records From Parent Table And Any Records From Child Table

Oct 21, 2015

I am trying to write a query that will retrieve all students of a particular class and also any rows in HomeworkLogLine if they exist (but return null if there is no row). I thought this should be a relatively simple LEFT join but I've tried every possible combination of joins but it's not working.

SELECT
Student.StudentSurname + ', ' + Student.StudentForename AS Fullname,
HomeworkLogLine.HomeworkLogLineTimestamp,
HomeworkLog.HomeworkLogDescription,
ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY HomeworkLogLine.HomeworkLogLineStudentID ORDER BY

[Code] ...

It's only returning two rows (the students where they have a row in the HomeworkLogLine table).

@fnameIndex varchar(100),
--@startOFR_SCR_FILENAME_DATE varchar(25),

Daily Deletion Of Records

May 12, 2004

Ladys, Gentlement, I have table that grows anywhere from 200,000 to 1,000,000 records perday. Besides that I need to keep at least 6 months historical data from this same table. The transaction log was purged after each batch when testing data monthly. I'm looking for some way of deleting just one day's data if it meets a criteria. It must remain within the 6 months period of historical data. This is what I've come up with so far"

select * FROM dbo.Temp_table WHERE datediff(day, DATE_TIME, getdate()) >= 180

If it meets this criteria I can change the select to a delete? Please Let me know what you think

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Identifying Potential Duplicate Records In A Given Table?

Oct 8, 2015

any useful SQL Queries that might be used to identify lists of potential duplicate records in a table?

For example I have Client Database that includes a table dbo.Clients. This table contains various columns which could be used to identify possible duplicate records, such as Surname | Forenames | DateOfBirth | NINumber | PostalCode etc. . The data contained in these columns is not always exactly the same due to differences caused by user data entry; so some records may have missing data from some of the columns and there could be spelling differences too. Like the following examples:

1 | Smith | John Raymond | NULL | NI990946B | SW12 8TQ
2 | Smith | John | 06/03/1967 | NULL | SW12 8TQ
3 | Smith | Jon Raymond | 06/03/1967 | NI 99 09 46 B | SW12 8TQ

The problem is that whilst it is easy for a human being to review these 3 entries and conclude that they are most likely the same Client entered in to the database 3 times; I cannot find a reliable way of identifying them using a SQL Query.

I've considered using some sort of concatenation to a new column, minus white space and then using a "WHERE column_name LIKE pattern" query, but so far I can't get anything to work well enough. Fuzzy Logic maybe?

the results would produce a grid something like this for the example above:

ID | Surname | Forenames | DuplicateID | DupSurname | DupForenames
1 | Smith | John Raymond | 2 | Smith | John
1 | Smith | John Raymond | 3 | Smith | Jon Raymond
9 | Brown | Peter David | 343 | Brown | Pete D
next batch of duplicates etc etc . . . .

Auto Deletion Of Records Sqlserver

Aug 18, 2007

Hi I am not sure if I am at right place, anyhow I hope I am :) Now the question: I am using an ASP.net Application with SQL-Server. I want to make a page so that it set the expiration time (date)  for certain record and once that time reaches, it deletes those records, or make any updates to the record (what ever applicable). I also want to control this auto deletion from my application, means that turn this On/Off whenever needed. I am not sure how to start this. I was told by a friend that I need to use triggers from SQL-server but I need some help. Can anyone help me out on this? RegardsMykhan

Insertion And Deletion Of Records Inside A Single Stored Procedure

Mar 25, 2008

Hi,
I have two tables A and B. In table A i have three columns called empid, empname and empsalary where empid is an identity column. Table A has some records filled in it. Table B has the same schema except the fact that the empid is not an identity column in table B. Table B does not contain any rows initially. All other aspects remain the same as that of table A. Now i am going to delete some records in table A based on the empid. When i delete the records in table A based on empid the deleted records should be inserted into table B with the same empid. I need to accomplish these two tasks in a single stored procedure. How to do it? I need the entire code for the stored procedure. Please help me. I am trying for the past 4 days.
 Thanx in Advance
