Transact SQL :: How To Transfer Tables From One To Another File Group In 2008

Jan 17, 2012

I have few issues regarding the transfer of the tables from one file group to another file group  in SQL 2008 and also How can we  backup and restore the particular database based on file group level.

Let’s say I have a tables stored within the different FG. such as

Tables

File group Dimension tables             Primary Fact tables
FG1 ...
FG2…
zzz_tables                                                DEFAULT_FG
dim.table1                                                                                                                          DEFAULT_FG
dim.table2                                                                                                                          DEFAULT_FG
…                                                                                                                                             ….

Here all I want to transfer the dim.table1 ,dim.table2  from  DEFAULT_FG to the Primary File group .So is there simple methods for transfer the dim.table1,2  from one FG to another .I have tried somewhat but I couldn’t get the exact way.Secondly after moving those dim.table1 ,dim.table2 from DEFAULT_FG to Primary ,All I want to backup and restore the database only containing  the Primary and FG1,FG2… not a DEFAULT_FG.Is it possible or not.?

Transact SQL :: Replicating / Synching Data Between Two Tables On Same Database With Live Transactions

Oct 7, 2015

Client is running X- version of application and corresponding database size is huge. Now client's vendor is releasing Y-version of same application with many database schema changes (like new tables added, new columns added, renamed existing columns and etc) To upgrade to the Y-version, vendor is suggesting to my client that down the system and do the upgrade for application/database to Y-version. We are sure that this process will take days together to upgrade to the Y-version. My client is not ready to down the system for that long. So we are trying to find the solution with minimal down time. The approach we are thinking is,

1) Create the replicated database to another server (server2) from production server(server1) using golden gate with X-version

2) Create new tables/schema updated tables from Y-version database on same server1. Here for  Updated schema tables we are planning to use the name <table_name_Y_version> as the same table name exists in X-version.

3)With above 2 steps, golden gate replicate the changes from production to server1 and server1 will have the new Y-version table schema (with different concatenate name ' _Y_version'). BTW , there is no affect for the production

4) At this stage we are planning to find best approach, to fill the '<table_name>_Y_version' from X-version tables. two challenges here a) all data needs to be moved to Y-version tables b) they have to sync data in real time.

we thought of going to

a) ssis package to pump the data to Y-version tables, but real time data will not sync.

b) trigger based technique, previous experience said, lot of load

c) thinking about sql replication.

Transfer Data In Two Tables

Apr 28, 2004

Hi,

I am have a two tables. I want to transfer data from Table1 to Table2 but depending on BRK_TITLE. For example, if BRK_TITLE is "Testing" then table1.BRK_QUANT would go to Table2.Qty1, if BRK_Title ="My Testing" then it would go to table2.qty2 and so on...
but problem is every time BRK_TITLE changes. these are not constant titles(e.g. title may be 'abc', '134' etc)

If data belongs to title3 then it would go to the specific quantity i.e. table2.qty3

Table1:
DB_CONTRACT
ITEM_NO
BRK_TITLE
BRK_QUANT
----
table2:
DB_CONTRACT
ITEM_NO
BRK_TITLE
qty1,
qty2,
qty3,
qty4,
qty5,
qty6,
qty7,
qty8

I hope i convey my point of view?

I'll really appreciate your help

How Do I Transfer Tables From Remote SQL Database To Local MDF File?

May 7, 2008

Hi all,

Currently, my (small) intranet site is storing it's data on a remote SQL server. The danger with this, as has happened several times now, is that the application is twice as vulnerable; if either the webserver or the dataserver malfunctions or is unreachable, the application won't work.

I only recently discovered the possibility to use local database files (MDF files), and this seems like a much better solution for my site. But now I want to transfer the tables that are residing on the dataserver, to the MDF file. The database only contains tables. How do I handle this? I do not have access to the dataserver, only to a few databases that are residing on it. Is this possible using Visual Studio 2008? I have read about a "Bulk Copy Program" (bcp) which is included with SQL Server, but I cannot find a download for just that application.

Or is this totally not the way to go? I've discovered MDF files are a bit more problematic with concurrent connections; having tables open in Visual Studio results in "Site offline" or "Cannot open database" error messages on the website. Problems I've never had to deal with using SQL Server, but they are only minor problems.

Thanks,
Peter

Data Transfer From One Database To Another

Jun 6, 2007

Ok, so thank you first off to Arnie for helping with my auto-increment problem. I'm not in the office now, but I can't wait to try out what he showed me to get this thing running.

My bigger problem that I'm hoping you guys can help me with though is this:

I have two servers, and two databases, lets call them dev, and staging. These are exactly the same, except in different physical locations, and changes are made on dev, and then the info is updated to staging. I am writing a C# script to automate the process of updating the information from the dev database on the dev server, to staging. I am profficient with C#, but this is the first time i've ever touched SQL.

So by using the INSERT and SELECT method, I can get the info over properly, I am assuming (as I said I haven't been in the office to try it out yet) but for each table on the database there are different sets of column names, so I can't do a simple

Loop{

SqlCommand del = new SqlCommand("Truncate table " +MyTable", connectionstring)

del.ExecuteNonQuery();

SqlCommand com = new SqlCommand("INSERT INTO MyTable (MyColumn)

SELECT MyOtherColumn FROM MyOtherTable", connectionstring);

com.ExecuteNonQuery();

}While(...) and change the MyTable/MyOtherTable values for each loop.

Is there a quick and easy way of calling a list of columns for each table, so that I can change the table value, get the list of columns, and assign those as a variable? That way it can run through every table on the database, and no matter what the number or names of the columns in each table, it will grab all the necessary data and pass it over.

Thanks in advance,

Aaron L

Transact SQL :: Load 2 Tables With Data From 1 Inventory?

Oct 3, 2015

To setup some data in some new tables in t-sql 2012, I need to create a relationship between 2 tables were data is obtained from an inventory file. The inventory file will be loaded to sql server 2012 from an excel spreadsheet.

1. Columns that will be loaded to the first table are:

1. Inventory category number,
2. Inventory date,
3. Inventory Category total amount, and
4. Inventory category quantity on hand.

This table will have a column called Item number. This will need to be the value of item number that is in the second table.

2. Columns that will be loaded to the second table are:

1. Item Number,
2. item date,
3. Item price, Item quantity on hand.

Thus can you show me the sql that will load the table into both tables? This sql would also need to show how to obtain the values of item number from the second table and place that value into the first table.

I have a database consisting of two main tables and 12 sub tables.

This was leading to increase in database size. So we thought of storing the sub tables data in the main tables in form of xml  in a column of varchar(2000) type.

So we created a new database that only had 2 tables and we stored the data of the sub tables in the new column of the main table.

Surprisingly we saw that the database size increased rather than decreasing .

Transact SQL :: Delete Data From Table Referred In Other Tables

Oct 14, 2015

I've a table named Master in which a column is referenced in other tables like Child1, Child2,.. ChildN. I've deleted a part of data( say Column Id values 1,2,3,4,5) from all the Child tables which pointed to Master table Id column.

Now, I want to delete the same Id values from Master table as there rows are not referred in any of the child tables. When I try to delete the Id values 1 thru 5 from Master table, it is scanning all child tables for the references and taking lot of time for the deletion.

Is there any way to specify to the system(in the query) to delete the Master table values without scanning the child tables..?
