Transact SQL :: Window Function To Count Number Of Rows In The Previous 24 Hours?

Nov 16, 2015

is it possible to use the window functions to count the number of rows in the previous 24hours from the current row.

I have a table of events like:

User, TimeStamp, etc...

I want to identify the row which is the event number 50 in the past 24 hours.

does the window functions can do this? and how?

the ROW PRECEDING etc... appear to not have enough feature to support time related function.

Stream-insight is able to create this type of query, but I have to do it directly in SQL.

Transact SQL :: Adding Count Before And After A Specific Time Doesn't Match Total Number Of Records

Nov 19, 2015

If I just use a simple select statement, I find that I have 8286 records within a specified date range.

If I use the select statement to pull records that were created from 5pm and later and then add it to another select statement with records created before 5pm, I get a different count: 7521 + 756 = 8277

Is there something I am doing incorrectly in the following sql?

DECLARE @enddate date = '10-31-2015'
DECLARE @afterTime time = '17:00'

CAST DateTime Value To A Fixed-point Number

Jul 31, 2014

I'm reviewing the CAST function using Microsoft SQL server. I generally understand the functionality, but my confusion lies in the results of a particular script which casts a DateTime value to a fixed-point number.

It is as follows:

DECLARE @From DATETIME
DECLARE @To NUMERIC(10,5)

SET @From = '2009-10-11T11:00:00'
SET @To = cast(@From AS NUMERIC(10,5))

PRINT @To

This results in: 40095.45833

I am completely lost as to how 40095.45833 = 2009-10-11T11:00:00. I just do not understand the how that fixed point number equates to that source DateTime data.

How To Count The Number Of Textboxes

Feb 5, 2007

Hi all,

In the report I am working on, I have a "textbox39" in a table which has groups. I want to have another "textbox29" outside the table to count the number of "textbox39"s that are actually displayed and also the number of "textbox1"s that have a certain value (e.g. "1") in the final report. I tried to use "Sum(ReportItems!textbox39.Value)" but the compiler complains

Error 1 [rsAggregateReportItemInBody] The Value expression for the textbox 'textbox29' uses an aggregate function on a report item.  Aggregate functions can be used only on report items contained in page headers and footers. d:perfperfreportingprojectPerformanceTestDetails v.3.rdl 0 0

Error 7 [rsReportItemReference] The Value expression for the textbox €˜textbox29€™ refers to the report item €˜textbox39€™.  Report item expressions can only refer to other report items within the same grouping scope or a containing grouping scope. d:perfperfreportingprojectPerformanceTestDetails v.3.rdl 0 0

Anybody has any idea how to solve it?
Thanks so much,
Zhiyan

I need to generate the Item Number from 1 to "qty of items" when I make the JOIN on WorkOrderNumber.

Example:

WorkOrderNumber WorkOrderItem WorkOrderAmt

How I generate the WorkOrderItem using a select with a JOIN on the 2 tables?

Is Point In Time Recovery To A Point Before The Last Full Database Backup Possible?

Mar 26, 2008

Hello all,

First off, I appreciate the time that those of you reading and responding to this request are offering. My quesiton is a theoretical and hopefully simple one, and yet I have been unable to find an answer to it on other searches or sources.

Here's the situation. I am working with SQL Server 2005 on a Windows Server 2003 machine. I have a series of databases, all of which are in Full recovery mode, using a backup device for the full database backups and a separate device for the log backups. The full backups are run every four days during non-business hours. The log backups are run every half hour.

Last week, one of my coworkers found that some rarely-used data was unavailable, and wanted to restore a database to a point in time where the data was available. He told me that point in time was some time back in November.

To accomplish this, I restored the database (in a separate database, as to not overwrite my production database) using the Point in Time Recovery option. I selected November from the "To a point in time" window (I should note that this window is always grey, never white like most active windows, it seems), and the full database backup and the subsequent logs all became available in the "Select the backup sets to restore" window.

I then tried a bevy of different options from the "Options" screen. However, every restore succeeds (ie: it doesn't error out), but seems to be bringing the database back to a current point in time. It's never actually going back to the point in time I specify.

My questions are as follows:

a) Is it possible to do a point in time recovery to a point in time BEFORE the last full database backup?

b) If so, what options would you recommend I use? (ie: "Overwrite the existing database", restore with recovery, etc etc).

I again appreciate any and all advice I receive, and I look forward to hearing from anyone and everyone on this topic. Thank you.

Ryan

ExecuteNonQuery To Count Number Of Rows??

Sep 5, 2007

My understanding from a previous thread was that ExecuteNonQuery() could be used to display the number of rows returned.
Does this also work when calling stored procedures and passing parameters?
I have code (shown) that perfectly calls and returns Distinct models downloaded by Country. Yet the rowCount variable displays a -1.
What should I do?Dim myCommand As New SqlClient.SqlCommand
myCommand.CommandText = "ap_Select_ModelRequests_RequestDateTime"
myCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("@selectDate", dateEntered)
myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("@selectCountry", CInt(selectCountry))
myCommand.Connection = con
con.Open()
Dim rowCount As Integer = myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
numberParts.Text = rowCount.ToString
con.Close() Thank you.

Count Number Of Pay Days In A Month

Apr 11, 2008

I have a query that counts the number of pay checks received in a month, but I need to compare that to the number of actual paydays in a month. If we were on a set pay schedule (i.e. the 15th of each month) it would be easy. Unfortunately that's not the case. We are paid biweekly on Fridays and our last pay day was April 4th.

So I need to know how many pay periods were in a specified month. For example, April would have 2 (April 4th and 18th), May would have 3 (May 2nd, 16th, and 30th), etc.

As always, your help is very much appreciated!
