View 5 RepliesThe following code is a part of my stored procedure MySP. I would like to update Users table with input variable @userIDs which has the following format:
101, 102, 103
I got the error message:
Syntax error converting the varchar value '101, 102, 103' to a column of data type int.
Obviously, UserID has datatype int. How can I write this SP?
CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.MySP
@userIDs varchar(100)
AS
SET NOCOUNT ON
BEGIN TRANSACTION
UPDATE Users SET IsActive = 1 WHERE UserID IN (@userIDs)
IF @@ERROR <> 0
ROLLBACK TRANSACTION
ELSE
COMMIT TRANSACTION
SET NOCOUNT OFF
Is there a way to run/call a batch file from a stored procedure?
Or, is there a way to run/call a batch file from a trigger?
I have a stored procedure that generates some data and dumps it into a table. I need to export data using bcp based on the data that this procedure creates. So I know how to use bcp but don't know how to execute the procedure and pass it the two variables that it needs. I googled it and sqlcmd looks promising but can get the syntax right. The two variables are the current year and school number ie. 1112, 0021.
View 3 Replies View Relatedhow to catch batch id from a running stored procedure. My intention is that when we run store procedures in batch we are running a lot of procedures and I would like to log each run and if the same procedure is running several times per day I need to separate the runs by a "batch id" for the specific run. I have created a logtable and a logprocedure that logs the start and end of a procedure run and also some values for the run. So I'm trying to find a way of fetching the "batch id" that the sp is running so I can separate the runs when analyzing the logtable. I have looked at metadata tables and also in the table sys.sysprocesses but I cannot find BATCH ID.

i got this error ... i have tried various scenarios.. nothing works for me... can any one gimme the proper guidance...
The variable name '@CCSID' has already been declared. Variable names must be unique within a query batch or stored procedure.

I have create a batch file to execute a stored proc to import data.
When I run it from the server (Remote Desktop) it works fine, but if I share the folder and try to run it from my pc, it doesn't do anything. I don't get an error, it just doesn't do anything. My windows user has admin rights in SQL. Why is it not executing from my PC?
I created one stored procedure to update the date difference in the table . in this table i have dt1,dt2,dt3... column and diff1,diff2... I wanted to find the difference between dt2 and dt1, and dt4 and dt3 and put it in separate column.
When I compiled the stored procedure, it did not show any error. But when i execute, it shows the error:
Conversion failed when converting datetime from character string.

I have a Stored Procedure (SP) that creates the data required for areport that I show on a web page. The SP does all the work and justreturns back a results set that I dump in an ASP.NET DataGrid. The SPtakes a product area and a start and end date as parameters. Here are the basics of the SP.1.Create temp table to store report results, all columns are createdthat will be needed at this point.2.Select products and general product data into the temp table.3.Create a cursor that loops through all the products in the temptable, running a more complex query with each individual product.4.The results of that query are updated on the temp table based on thecurrent product of the cursor.5.A complex "totals" query is run and the results from that areinserted into the temp table as the last 3 rows.In all we are talking about 120 rows in the temp table with 8 columnsthat are mostly numbers.I originally wrote this report SP about a month ago and it worked fine, ran in about 10 - 20 seconds based on server traffic and amount ofdata in the temp table. For the example I'm running there are the120 products.Just yesterday the (SP started timing out and when I ran the SPmanually from Query Analyzer (QA) (exec SP_NAME ... ) with the sameparameters as it was getting in the code it took 6 minutes to complete.I was floored. I immediately copied the SQL out of the SP and pastedinto another QA window, changed the variables to be hard coded valuesand ran it. It completed in 10 seconds.I'm really confused now. I ran a Profiler on the 2 when I ran themagain. The SQL code in QA executed again in ~10 seconds with 65,000reads. When the SP finished some 6 minutes later it had completed witthe right results but it needed 150,000,000 reads to do its job.How can the exact same SQL code produce such different results (time, disk reads) based on whether its in a SP or just run from QA but stillgive me the exact same output. The reports both look correct and havethe same numbers of rows.I asked my Sys Admin if he had done anything to anything and he saidno.I've been reading about recompiles and temp table indexes and allkinds of other stuff that could possibly be affecting it but havegotten nowhere.Any ideas are appreciated.
View 5 Replies View RelatedExecuting the stored procedure took 45 seconds. But copying the code to a query window and setting up the variables (instead of parameters), it took 7 seconds.
In the query window, most of the processing cost (86%) is right up front in a "Distinct Sort." But in exec stored procedure, the cost for this step is 11% and the significant costs are in later "Table Scans."
I don't know why SQL Server would choose different execution plans when the code is identical in each.
Any quick insights?
Many thanks.

Created a report that displays the Maximum Response time (example of value 00:00:00) which is directly pulled from the Stored proc. When I ran the report, the column displays blank values.I am not sure if I should add any conversion to the Response value in the report.

View 5 Replies View RelatedCurrently through my stored procedure, I am pulling the data from my source systems in the way Daily Truncate and loading the data in to my database table. Currently my query looks as follows,
SELECT
a.col1,a.col2,b.col3,b.col4,c.col5
FROM
a
left outer join b ON a.col1 = b.col1
left outer join c ON b.col1 = c.col1.
Now, I want to change the above one to delta process(I have updateddate field in all the tables). The requirement is any of these 3 tables has updateddate = getdate() then i need to take "a.col1,a.col2,b.col3,b.col4,c.col5" columns and push to destination
table.
I think usually delta process means we will use to consider the key table, in that table if there is an updated record will take that record and join with the other required tables to pull the updated record. But these logic seems different.how to build the query for the above delta process? Since it is an urgent requirement need to implement asap.
I linked MS SQL and MySQL and i would like to have insert trigger on MySQL to import certain fields every time when there's new entry.

Unfortunately, I cannot change the code that is inside of the stored procedure because it is already used in productionphase.
We've researched this, and some people are stating convert to nvarchar first. I'd like to keep the date as a date. Here is how I am trying to call it:
Declare @FromDate as date
Declare @ToDate as date
Set @FromDate=Convert(date,'09-01-2015',110)
Set @ToDate= Convert(Date,'10-13-2015',110)
Select @FromDate

How can I keep the date as a date and still pass it to stored procedure.
I am trying to use the Transact-SQL debugger to step through a stored procedure on a server to determine where it is failing. I right-click the stored procedure I want to debug in the Query Analyzer's Object Browser and choose Debug... In the Debug Procedure dialog I fill in the values for the parameters, choose the Auto roll back checkbox, and press Execute.
The T-SQL Debugger screen comes up with my stored procedure and a message on the bottom of Waiting for user input. But I can input nothing, neither click on the icons on top, set breakpoints, or doing anything else, as the stored procedure runs to the end and gives me the return code.
If I subsequently set some breakpoints in my stored procedure and try the Go button. Once again the stored procedure runs to the end without stopping at any breakpoint.
In both cases, the stored procedure shows the waiting icon as it proceeds to the end, so that I can not click on anything to stop it.
I have been told this is may be a permissions issue between myself as a client on my machine and the stored procedure on the server. If so, does anybody know what I the things that have to be done on the permissions side to be able to debug the stored procedure using the Transact SQL debugger.
How could I prevent a stored procedure from getting deleted?

I needed to create a stored procedure to lock a user who makes 3 incorect entries of his password. I did it successfully. Now the problem what i have is that i want to lock the user only if he makes the 3 incorrect entries within 30 minutes.
I created a field named "FirstEntryTime" of type datetime that saves the date of the first incorrect entry. I tried to make an if statement:
if (@timesOfEntry <=2 AND DATEDIFF(MINUTE, firstEntryTime,GETDATE()) <= 30)
Begin
Update myTable set ...
End
I need to create a stored procedure for total count of the user's. If User from front end invites other user to use my tool, that user will be stored into a table name called "test",lets say it will be stored as"Invited 1 User(s)" or if he invites 2 users it will store into table as "Invited 2 User(s)."
But now we have changed the concept to get the ISID (name of the user) and now when ever the user invites from the front end, the user who have invited should stored in two tables "test" and " test1" table .
After we get the data into test and test1 table i need the total count of a particular user from both tables test and test1.
if i invite a user , the name of the user is getting stored in both test and test1 tables. Now i want to get the count of a user from both tables which should be 1,but its showing 2.
Reason: Why i am considering the count from 2 tables is because before we were not tracking the usernames and we were storing the count in single test table.,but now we are tracking user names and storing them in both tables(test and test1).
Here is my sample code:
I need to sum it up to get the total user's from both the table but I should get 1 instead of 2
SELECT
(select distinct COUNT(*) from dbo.test
where New_Values like '%invited%'
and Created_By= 'sam'
+
(select distinct count (*) from dbo.test1
where invited_by ='sam'
