SQL Server 2008 :: Full-text Search Suddenly Returning Error

Jul 8, 2015

This morning, when I look at my error logs, the following appears;

Msg 0, Level 11, State 0, Line 0

A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

Msg 0, Level 20, State 0, Line 0

A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

If I remove the contains() part from the SQL Stored Procedure, it stills runs. So, in other words, suddenly contains() started making the query crash.

I'm running SQL Server 2008 R2.

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Full Text Search Not Returning Certain Results?

Oct 28, 2015

We are running SQL 2014 SP1. We are using defined Full text indexes on several tables in the database. However, on one specific set of servers, a certain search will not return any data. This exact same search works on another set of servers built identically. The first responses I'm sure will be stop list, but I have dropped and recreated the FTI multiple times with different stop lists or no stop list at all and get the same results.

The specific word being searched on is YUM. If I change the value to YUMk, it actually returns, and if I change the data to TUM it returns, but YUM does not. This exact query is working on multiple other systems, so it seems to be something environmental, but I haven't been able to pinpoint it.

SQL 2012 :: Full-Text Queries Returning No Results

Jun 9, 2014

So I'm trying out full-text indexing for the first time and, in particular, FileTables in SQL Server 2012. I've followed a Microsoft walkthrough and everything seems to be ok. However, when I query the table using the CONTAINS keyword, I get no results (a regular query to make sure there are records in the table returns the expected number of results).

I'm now trying to troubleshoot, and have been using the FULLTEXTCATALOGPROPERTY function, but I don't understand the results.

If I run SELECT FULLTEXTCATALOGPROPERTY(N'CatlogName',N'ItemCount'), I get a result of 51. There are 96 documents in the NTFS folder where the documents are stored, and the table has 96 records, so I don't know where 51 is coming from. 55 of the documents are .DOC files, the rest are .PDF, and some (or maybe all) of the PDFs are scanned images of documents, which I don't expect to be indexed, so maybe that explains it. And in another thread in these forums, a poster suggests that the result for this function should be either 0 or 1, with 0 meaning that no documents are pending indexing, but maybe I've misunderstood that.

If I run SELECT FULLTEXTCATALOGPROPERTY(N'CatalogName',N'UniqueKeyCount'), I get a result of 2. I have got two full-text indexes in this catalog (one on the FileTable, one on a regular table with FT enabled). Is this result therefore expected? Again, reading online seems to suggest that a result of 0 is desirable, but I don't understand why, and if it is I don't understand why my result is 2!

I've now also run SELECT* FROM sys.dm_fts_index_keywords(DB_ID('DatabaseName'), Object_ID('dbo.FileTableName)), which I believe is supposed to list all of the indexed words from the table specified. I get one row returned, as follows:

keyword: 0xFF
display_term: END OF FILE
column_id: 2
document_count: 40

So basically, it's not indexed any words at all. And why is the document count only 40 when there are 96 documents in the folder and table?

SQL Search :: Full Text Indexing Returning Error

Oct 28, 2015

We have an iFilter to extract text on emails and their attached files. I have encountered 5 emails that receive the following error code, but I cannot find anything on the error code: Error '0x80fc7586' occurred during full-text index population for table or indexed view '[RIA_Unindexed].[dbo].[Emails]' (table or indexed view ID '485576768', database ID '31'), full-text key value 'E11264A2-A17D-E511-80E0-005056B240B1'. Attempt will be made to reindex it.After a number of retry attempts they will fail to index.what does error code  '0x80fc7586' refer to, I have not found it.

Since the first two bytes of the error code are the severity and facility reporting the error, I stripped off that information and looked for error 0x7586 or 30086. That error reported "Too Many products".Theses emails being indexed contain attachments with large attachments that then the attachment chunks are being called for from the fdhost may result in too many chunk segments, or more likely there are some repeating words in the extracts like 4 million occurrences so right now I am testing that condition. To see if the word breaker is throwing the error.

SQL Server 2000 Full Text Search (extract Pieces Of Text)

Sep 12, 2007

Hello everyone !
I want to perform Full Text Search with SQL Server 2000. My documents (.doc, .xls, .txt, .pdf) are stored in a SQL Server field which is binary (the type of the column is image).
I would like to know, how you can extract pieces of text from the documents.
Example:
I have a ASPX page with codebehind in C# making the search in a table in SQL server that is full text indexed.
I make a search looking for the word "peace", than SQL server will take care about the search and return it to me the rows that match with that. But also I'd like to extract the 50 characters before and after where sql server found the word "peace" to show in the result page.
Does anyone has any idea how to work around it ?
 Best regards.
Yannick

Full-text Index Search Not Returning Expected Results

Apr 11, 2007

Hello,

My full-text search isn't working at all! I have a temporary table with full-text indexing enabled where files are scanned for social security numbers. If it has one, the user will see a message that it believes it's found a SSN and won't upload it. There is only ever one row in this table, as we overwrite the contents upon each upload.

I'm testing this search, and it doesn't work. The table has the following columns:
attachemtId (int) - primary key
fileContent (image) - contents of the file
fileExtension (varchar) - extension of the file (this is always either ".pdf" or ".doc")

I created a .doc file that simply says "ssn", and then run the following query:

SELECT * FROM TempAttachment
WHERE CONTAINS(fileContent,'ssn')

and nothing is returned! I tried the same thing with a .pdf file, and same results.

I'm not sure if this is related, but earlier I had this issue where I had to reset permissions for the directory. I've tried removing the full-text index and adding it again, but that didn't do anything. I also checked error logs on the server, and there were no messages. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

Full-text Query (Freetexttable) Returning Duplicate Rows

Aug 31, 2007

We have a query that uses the Full-text index on a view that's returning duplicate rows. We thought maybe it was the way we were joining, but we were able to simplify the query as much as possible and it still happens. Here's the query:

Code Snippet
SELECT *
FROM FREETEXTTABLE(vwSubtable, TitleSearch, 'Across five Aprils') AS KEY_TBL
ORDER BY RANK DESC

vwSubtable is an indexed view that contains some of the columns in our original table, and is also filtering out some rows from the main table in a where clause. There are no joins in the view.

This seems like it's about as simple a query as we could get. It will return some rows twice (ie. the same primary key row is returned back as two separate rows in the resultset). This is a problem since we're filling a datagrid, which is throwing a ConcurrencyException because the primary key is already in there.

I made sure we have SP2 installed on my SQL Server. Any ideas on what might be happening?

FullText Search Not Returning Results After Rebuilding Full Text Index

Aug 6, 2012

We have a table that is Full Text Search index enabled on one column. This table has 200 lakhs of rows(20000000) . ContainsTable() function is searching data with in these 200 lakhs of rows(20000000), if any new rows are inserted then the ContainsTable is not going to search in these recent inserted rows.

We observed when we try for a data to search. it is returning the rows till the rows that are inserted date is less than 30th of march 2012. but not searching in the records that are created after April month , if even the data we are searching is available .

TableFulltextItemCount is around 2.2 crores.

Then we done rebuilt the FT catalog Index. then the TableFulltextItemCount became 0.Again we run the containstable query ,but still it is not getting results.

As the no of rows are very more . so i am not able to show the actual rows from which the data is not coming.

the below query gives 2 results that are from actual base table

HTML Code:
select * from g_case_action_log where cas_details like '%235355%' and product_id = 38810

To search for the same above word using FTS,I have used the query as below

HTML Code:
SELECT Distinct top 50 cal.case_id,cal.cas_details From g_case_action_log cal (READUNCOMMITTED)inner join containstable(es.g_case_action_log, cas_details, ' ("235355" OR "<br>235355" OR "235355<br> ") ') as key_tbl on cal.log_id = key_tbl.[key] Where cal.product_id = 38810 ORDER By cal.case_id DESC

I have attached one sql script file for your ref that contains create logic and index schema properties

Why it is not returning results all the time.

Adding A Full Text Search Across Multiple Tables (with Text Fields)

Sep 7, 2007

Hi, i'm trying to do a full text search on my site to add a weighting score to my results.  I have the following database structure:
Documents: - DocumentID (int, PK) - Title (varchar) - Content (text) - CategoryID (int, FK)
Categories: - CategoryID (int, PK) - CategoryName (varchar)
I need to create a full text index which searches the Title, Content and CategoryName fields.  I figured since i needed to search the CategoryName field i would create an indexed view.  I tried to execute the following query:
CREATE VIEW vw_DocumentsWITH SCHEMABINDING ASSELECT dbo.Documents.DocumentID, dbo.Documents.Title, dbo.Documents.[Content], dbo.Documents.CategoryID, dbo.Categories.CategoryNameFROM dbo.Categories INNER JOIN dbo.Documents ON dbo.Categories.CategoryID = dbo.Documents.CategoryID
GOCREATE UNIQUE CLUSTERED INDEX vw_DocumentsIndexON vw_Documents(DocumentID)
But this gave me the error:
Cannot create index on view 'dbname.dbo.vw_Documents'. It contains text, ntext, image or xml columns.
I tried converting the Content to a varchar(max) within my view but it still didn't like.
Appreciate if someone can tell me how this can be done as surely what i'm trying to do is not ground breaking.

Problem With Text Field: Text Input Too Long, Weird Characters

May 15, 2006

Hi,

Im a programmer for an university webportal which uses php and msssql.
When an user creates a new entry and his text is too long the entry is cut short and weird characters appear at the end of the entry.

For example:
http://www.ttz.uni-magdeburg.de/scripts/test-messedb/php/index.php?option=show_presse&funktion=presse_show_mitteilung&id=333

How can I set the text limit to unlimited?
Could it be something else?
Is there a way of splitting an entry to several text fields automatically?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me,

SQL 2012 :: Text Qualifier Inside A Text Qualified Field

Mar 12, 2015

In SQL 2005 if i was trying to insert some data with a text qualifier inside a text qualified field, it would work, for example:

"Name","ID ","Location","","Comany",""House Name" Road",

In SQL 2012, this fails with the error message, cannot find the text qualifer for field.

To get around this, we are having to import the data into a Dirty Data column of aTEMP table, ID, Dirty Data, Clean data - perform multiple updates and change the text qualifier and ensure they are only changed in the right places so we can keep the ". In this example, we changed the text qualifier to PIPES.

After these updates, we then export the data from CLEAN data back out to CSV, then reimport it into the origional destination table with a new text qualifer.

Adding Text To A TEXT Field (MS-SQL2000)

May 9, 2007

Hi everyone,

I'm extremely new to SQL so be nice

I am attempting to write a script to add onto the end of a text field the words " -- Disposed " (About 60 rows worth).
The field is a TEXT field, so unlike a varchar field I can't just use Update as shown below.

Code:

Update AR_Primary_asset
Set AR_Primary_asset.description = AR_Primary_asset.description + ' -- Disposed'
Where AR_Primary_Asset.ASSET_REF in ('1','2','4')

I found on the Mircosoft pages about UPDATETEXT, but this only seem to work to update one row (In the case below Asset_ref = 3, was the only row effected) .

Code:

DECLARE @Dispose binary(16)
SELECT @Dispose = TEXTPTR(DESCRIPTION)
FROM AR_PRIMARY_ASSET
WHERE AR_Primary_Asset.ASSET_REF in ('1','2','3')

UPDATETEXT AR_PRIMARY_ASSET.DESCRIPTION @ptrval null null ' -- Disposed'

So i wrapped it into a cursor, this worked on my test SQL server which runs SQL2005.

Code:

DECLARE @Dispose varbinary(16)

DECLARE cursor1 CURSOR FOR
SELECT TEXTPTR(DESCRIPTION)
FROM AR_Primary_Asset
Where AR_Primary_Asset.ASSET_REF in('1','2','3')

OPEN cursor1

FETCH NEXT FROM cursor1
INTO @Dispose

WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0
BEGIN

UPDATETEXT AR_Primary_Asset.DESCRIPTION @Dispose NULL NULL ' -- Disposed'

FETCH NEXT FROM cursor1
INTO @Dispose
END

CLOSE cursor1
DEALLOCATE cursor1

But when it was run on our SQL2000 server it gave the following error message

Quote: Msg 403, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

Invalid operator for data type. Operator equals add, type equals text.

I've never used vars, cursors, updatetext or even text fields before. So maybe I am going about it totally the wrong way.

Is anyone able to tell me a better way to write this? or how to make it compatible to SQL2000?

Access Memo Field To SQL Server Text Field

Nov 19, 2006

Hi,

I'm importing an Access database to SQL Server 2000.
The issue I ran into is pretty frustrating... All Memo fields that get copied over (as Text fields) appear to be fine and visible in SQL Server Enterprise Manager... except when I display them on the web via ASP - everything is blank (no content at all).

I didn't have that problem with Access, so I ruled out the possibility that there's something wrong with the original data.

Is this some sort of an encoding problem that arose during database import?
I would appreciate any pointers.

MS Access Memo Field To SQL Server Text Field

Aug 20, 2006

Hi all,

i've a reasonable amount of experience with MS Access and less
experience with SQL Server. I've just written an .NET application that
uses an SQL Server database. I need to collate lots of data from around
the company in the simplest way, that can then be loaded into the SQL
Server database.

I decided to collect the info in Excel because that's what most people
know best and is the quickest to use. The idea being i could just copy
and paste the records directly into the SQL Server database table (in
the same format) using the SQL Server Management Studio, for
example.

Trouble is, i have a problem with line feed characters. If an Excel
cell contains a chunk of text with line breaks (Chr(10) or Chr(13))
then the copy'n'paste doesn't work - only the text up to the first line
break is pasted into the SQL Server database cell. The rest is not
pasted for some reason.

I've tried with MS Access too, copying and pasting the contents of a
memo field into SQL Server database, but with exactly the same problem.
I've tried with 'text' or 'varchar' SQL Server database field formats.

Since i've no experience of using different types of databases
interacting together, can someone suggest the simplest way of
transferring the data without getting this problem with the line feeds?
I don't want to spend hours writing scripts/programs when it's just
this linefeed problem that is preventing the whole lot just being
cut'n'pasted in 5 seconds!

cheers

SQL Server Timeout Is By Design When Using Full-text???

Apr 21, 2008

Well, I just spent 2 days tediously debugging an issue with SQL Server 2005 and I have my answer, but I am disappointed... Here's the story. I have a simple Full-Text query integrated into my .NET app. Since app launch I have been getting intermittent complaints that the program does not work, and yet I was never able to reproduce the behavior. I finally got the stack trace from a user and it was a time out exception. On the weekend, I decided to work a bit and the FT (Full-Text) query was the first I tried. Boom - Timeout! Rerunning the query though, does not timeout! Exactly what my users are seeing. Subsequent queries return in the usual 0.5 seconds. So after running many traces over 2 days, I determined that Full-Text queries time out on the first FT query run after 45 seconds and the timeout will happen again if no FT queries are run for 30 minutes. So basically, if we run text queries less frequently than every 30 minutes, we get a timeout every time!!! So with this info, I finally found the fix...

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915850

So this fix is spot on and the Status says: This behavior is by design. My problem is resolved with this command - sp_fulltext_service 'verify_signature', 0. But, the fix supposedly opens a security hole? So here are my questions:

1. How worried about this security hole should I be?
2. My server has internet access! So why am I getting the timeout? Internet Explorer works fine.
3. So since the query times-out with the verify_signature = 1, why are the subsequent queries allowed to execute? Shouldn't the subsequent queries fail as well since the word breaker is un-verified? Seems to me that if you're gonna let subsequent queries run without signature verification, why make the first one wait 45 seconds and timeout?
4. This timeout event should have AT LEAST shown some event in the trace that the timeout happened... Trace only showed that FT portion of query took almost exactly 45 seconds. Even with all the FT Event Classes turned on I saw nothing indicating a signature verification timeout.

Note: considering the fact that I have Internet access and still see this problem, it may be more widespread of a problem than MS believes. Also, others may be experiencing this and not realize what is happening because of the lack of any Trace events and the inability to reproduce! People may think (as I did) that the SQL Server is flakey or the network is flakey. I'd really like to see a hot-fix to address this.

Thanks,
-Valkyrie-MT

I installed SQL Server 2005 express with advanced services which is supposed to include full-text search capability but I can't get it to work.  When I try to create a full-text catalog it gives me an error because it does not think the full-text service is installed or loaded.  I can't seem to find a reference to the full-text search feature to enable or install it.  any ideas?

Full Text Search - Wildcards (SQL Server 2005)

Feb 5, 2008

the sql server documentation states that the use of wildcards is allowed by placing an '*' at the end of the search term.  I can get this to work OK in the SQL Server 2005 query window, heres an example
select ID, SUBSTRING(Title, 1, 100) AS Title, Implemented, Published from Table1 where contains(title,'"Therap*"') ORDER BY Title

this works OK and returns a list ot titles with the word Therapy in the title
Im trying to implelemnt this functionalty in a web app with C#.  The string is passed to a stored procedure.  How on earth do I pass in the quotes ??
Ive tried building the string as normal then adding single quotes on the end, so I get something like
retval = txt + "*";    //txt contains the partial word im searching for, then add the wildcard
then  retval = "'" + retval + "'";  // add the single quotes
and pass txt as a string parameter to my stored procedure.  It doesnt work.  Can anyone tell me what im doing wrong ??
the same query works fine in the SQL query window.
