Transact SQL :: Pull Records From 3 Tables Using Joins Or Subquery?

Sep 14, 2015

I have 3 tables.

Table 1:
ID  Name  Description
1  ABc      xyz
2  ABC      XYZ

Table 2:
RoleID   Role
1         Admin
2         QA

Table 3:
ID   RoleID  Time
1     1         09:14
2     1         09:15
1     2         09:16

Now I want all the records which belongs to RoleID 1 but if same ID is belongs to RoleID 2 than i don't want that ID.From above tables ID 1 belongs to RoleID 1 and 2 so i don't want ID 1.

Transact SQL :: UPDATE Statement Failing On Unique Key Constraint

Jul 9, 2015

I'm trying to update rows in a simple table that has a UNIQUE KEY CONSTRAINT defined on one of its columns. Here is the DDL for the table:

CREATE TABLE [dbo].[SEC_USER](
 [SEC_USER_ID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
 [USER_CODE] [varchar](100) NOT NULL,
 [USER_NAME] [varchar](128) NOT NULL,
 [EMP_CODE] [varchar](6) NOT NULL,

[Code] ....

When trying to execute the UPDATE statement the query fails with a constraint violation error:

Violation of UNIQUE KEY constraint 'UQ__SEC_USER__A039F1EE62FE8444'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.SEC_USER'. The duplicate key value is (34337).

What has  me baffled is that I'm not doing any insert. Also, the value that it's referencing - 34337 - doesn't exist in the table at all. I'd rather not drop the constraint.

Transact SQL :: How To Update Multiple Records In A Table

Jul 23, 2015

I need to update more than one record at once. I have ~ 100 records that I have to update and don't want to execute query 100 times.

My query looks like this:

Update Table1
Set Table1.field1 = ( select Table2.field1 from Table2 where Table2.field2 IN ('a', 'b', 'c')
where Table1.field2 IN ( 'a', 'b', 'c')

It obviously failed because subquery returned more than one value and error message stated that I can't use '=' operator in this case.

My question: how could I update the same column from many records in one execution?

Sql Complicated Count Subquery

Oct 19, 2004

I have a table that has attendance for programs. What I need to get is the number of days each month that any program had an entry for. What I'm trying to do is ensure that an active program had all entries for that particular month.

I can do this query and subquery in Access but not in sql. Here's the Access queries:

1)SELECT Cen_DailyReport.PgmID, DatePart("m",[date]) AS Mo, DatePart("d",[date]) AS Dy
FROM Cen_DailyReport
WHERE (((DatePart("yyyy",[Date]))=2004))
GROUP BY Cen_DailyReport.PgmID, DatePart("m",[date]), DatePart("d",[date])
HAVING (((Cen_DailyReport.PgmID)="dyad"));

Then to get the actual day count per month, the next query is:

2) SELECT Query11a.PgmID, Query11a.Mo, Count(Query11a.Dy) AS CountOfDy
FROM Query11a
GROUP BY Query11a.PgmID, Query11a.Mo;

and this query aggregates the data from the 1st query. I'm wanting to do this in SQL.

In the long run, I want to take that count in the query and compare it with the actual number of days in a month to see if any entries are missing (like a program not being entered at all on any given day that they should have had entries for)

Any help would be appreciated.

We need to compare all the commencement and lease expiry dates and show only the commencement and lease expiry with the recent dates. Null should be ignored Instead of using Max Tab or Max Modified date would the below logic work? Not sure how to script this.

1. Filter to find Questions containing "Expiry Date"

2. summarise to find the max expiry date per Tenant Code

3. find which records have that maximum expiry

4. join again to find the commencement date

5. union the records from (3) and (4)

Count Unique Rows In Each Field

Jul 24, 2013

I have a table in Access 2007 that has about 30 field names and I want to have a count of how many unique rows there are in each field. I want to have these results put into another table that will just have the field name and then the count of how many unique rows there are.

I have code in VBA that will loop through my SQL and change out the field name, but I can't seem to get the SQL right before I can start looping it. For just one field name this would be what I have to count the unique names...

So far I have this:

INSERT INTO newtable
COUNT(*) FROM (SELECT Raw_Table.FieldName, COUNT(Raw_Table.FieldName) AS CountOfFieldName
FROM Raw_Table
GROUP BY Raw_Table.FieldName);

And its not going too well.

Return Unique Count (Two Values)

I need a query to return two values. One will be the total units and the other will be total unique units. See exmaple data below. It does not have to be one query. This will be in SP, so I can keep it seperate if I have to.

ID | ID_UNIT
1 | 01
1 | 01
1 | 02
1 | 03
1 | 03
1 | 04
1 | 04

I need two results.

Total Units = 7 - easy to do by using count()
Total unique units = 4 - I cannot use group by as it would return multiple results for each unit, which is not what we want.
