Transaction Processing Problem In SQL Server

I have written data handling routines that use transaction processing to ensure no records are written needlesly if errors occur later. I have had no problems writing the code and handling the rollbacks and commits.
My problem occurs when the code crashes without falling into my exception handling routines. Null pointer errors and the like. I am using OLEDB interface to handle my data access as i need the web app to instantly swap between sql databases without re-writing code depending on what database my customers want to use i.e. MSSQL or Oracle (No Problems here using OLDDB and ASNI 92 SQL statements).
What i think is happenening is that when it crashes MSSQL is still holding the transaction but because it crashes i can niether get a commit or a rollback command on the transaction so when i run the code again and create a new transaction it returns time out on on the first insert statement?
Could anyone give me any pointers here please? As I can no longer insert any records using transactions.

Hello,
I am fairly new to SQL Server 2005 and was curious if this was possible.
In my VB applications I always used Begin Transaction, Commit and Rollback to process records. I just found out that I can perform the same functionality in a stored procedure.
So the question is, if I have an order record and four line item records is there anyway to pass all that to the stored procedure as a unit. I can pass the order record as individual parameters but it is the four (or however many) detail records that is the reason for my question. How can I pass the detail records at one time? Can I pass these as an array or a dataset or something else or am I just out of luck? SQL Server 2005 has impressed me a few times already with what you can do and I am really hoping this can be accomplished also.

In this article http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/1/0/f10c4f60-630e-4153-bd53-c3010e4c513b/ReadmeSQLEXP2005.htm , it explains that you must fully enable the security settings to allow use of transaction processing for a SqlExpress database. Is there a way to set these option in a setup? Or is there another way to use transaction processing without setting these options?

I have Full database backup upto previous day and transaction logfile of Today transaction. my database has crashed. I have restored previous day's Full backup. I have faced difficulty to restore today's transaction from today's transaction log. What are the steps to restore full database back and one day's transaction log file. Note: there is no differential database backup and transaction backup.

I'm getting this when executing the code below. Going from W2K/SQL2k SP4 to XP/SQL2k SP4 over a dial-up link.
If I take away the begin tran and commit it works, but of course, if one statement fails I want a rollback. I'm executing this from a Delphi app, but I get the same from Qry Analyser.
I've tried both with and without the Set XACT . . ., and also tried with Set Implicit_Transactions off.

I have a design a SSIS Package for ETL Process. In my package i have to read the data from the tables and then insert into the another table of same structure.
for reading the data i have write the Dynamic TSQL based on some condition and based on that it is using 25 different function to populate the data into different 25 column. Tsql returning correct data and is working fine in Enterprise manager. But in my SSIS package it show me time out ERROR.
I have increase and decrease the time to catch the error but it is still there i have tried to set 0 for commandout Properties.
if i'm using the 0 for commandtime out then i'm getting the Distributed transaction completed. Either enlist this session in a new transaction or the NULL transaction.
and
Failed to open a fastload rowset for "[dbo].[P@@#$%$%%%]". Check that the object exists in the database.
Please help me it's very urgent.

I'm working on a system right now where I have a database (two,actually, but one is discarded halfway through), but it's createdand used as part of a process (reporting), rather than as theactual production data repository. I may be keeping the databasepermanantly, but it would be completely read-only; once theprocess is complete, the database will not change again. This hasme wanting to do a few things that are rather foreign to my usualexperience, and I don't know how many of them are supported.In several cases, I'm summarizing one table into another by severalfields, and then updating the original table with an ID for thesummary row each source row was summarized into (e.g., I summarizePlaceAndProductSummary into PlaceSummary, and then populatePlaceSummaryID in PlaceAndProductSummary). The update of thesource table is much faster if the summary table has a clusteredindex on the summarized fields, but all later access will be fasterif the clustered index is on the identity column. I've beenincluding an ORDER BY the summarized fields in the original insert,so the identity column is in the same order as the summarized fields,but I don't know of any way to take advantage of that in theindexing declarations.As another approach to the above situation, if I change theclustered index on a table, and the rows happen to be in thesame order by both indexes, will the table still get rebuilt?I will never do a roll-back in the process; if an action fails, Iwant to raise an error and halt (and I haven't lost any data).Is there any way to completely turn off logging?Will I gain anything by marking the database as single-user?Any indexes that I am not using while I populate the tables, I'madding at the end with FillFactor 100, to keep any slack out.Is there a way to remove all the slack from everything else, atthe end of the process? I'm going through a set of MS e-learning classes and am confused about where the processing occurs. In general, I thought that all the processing occurred on the Server once the client made a request. This e-learning confuses me as it says that the processing is spread out between the client and the server. What is the correct answer?

i have a sequence container in my my sequence container i have a script task for drop the existing tables. This seq. container connected to another seq. container. all these are in for each loop container when i run the package it's work fine for 1st looop but it gives me error for second execution.
Message is like this:

my transations have been done using LINKED SERVER. when i manually call the store procedure from Server 1 it works but when i call it through Service broker it dosen't work and gives me this error.

I need to pull the records of competency of higher level also there is a chance of changing this competency level in feature like Grade A of Grade AA like this.

I create a main program which will launch two jobs at a time, each job does some processes and at the end I'm trying to delete those jobs after storing the job details in one of the custom table I created (cleanup sub-program).
Out of two jobs I am able to store one job details (like job_name,job_id,start_time and end_time of the job) in the custom table and able to delete that job, but the job that's getting completed at the end is not getting captured nor getting deleted from sysjobs and sysjobhistory tables.
I had included this step (which will call the cleanup sub-program to store the job details and delete it) at the end. I can see that this cleanup procedure getting called from debug message but it is neither storing details nor deleting the job.
When I execute this cleanup program separately, it does store the job details and delete it.

When I highlight a few
partitions and start processing, the process occasionally stops with a
message that operation has been canceled, like this:
Response 3
Server: the operation has been cancelled.
Response 4
Server: the operation has been cancelled.
Response 5
Server: the operation has been cancelled.
..etc...
(no further error message details are provided)
SQL profiler shows that batch was completed (but rowcount shown in process progress log is too small).
Analysis
Services profiler shows no messages at that time at all. It just shows
messages when it started, and when I restarted the processing.
The Analysis trace appears to be stopped when processing stops with "Server: the operation has been cancelled."This
is an occasional error and sometime occurs within 15-20 minutes from
starting to process. It could fail on 1st partition in the process list
, or on some partition in the middle. Some partitions might run for a
few hours and not error out, but sometimes it fails quickly.I was not sure if this is an issue with the underlying fact data, so I broke up the last partition where it failed into 5 smaller partitions, they processed OK separately.I think restarting SQL Server and SSAS helps to process a few more partitions. Some that failed with this problem process OK after restart, but some fail again.

I have an XML file about 25MB. When I read it with openrowset it gives me 'System.OutOfMemoryException'. The machine I'm running has 16GB of RAM and memory is definetely not exceeded. When I run smaller XML files it works fine.
I've read that older versions of SQL Server had this problem and it was caused by the parser having limited amount of memory. Is this still the case? Is there a way to change this?

I developed nice reports using custom data processing extensions. When I deployed the reports on my report server (I am using the express edition of SQL Server 2005) I was surprised to see that my reports were not rendering successfully.
After searching the web, I found this page listing the supported/unsupported features of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms365166.aspx
On this page it clearly says €œThe Reporting Services API extensible platform for delivery, data processing, rendering, and security is not supported.€?
Is there a way to get my reports to work on the express edition?
If not, which minimal version of SQL Server should a buy to get it to work (workgroup, standard or enterprise)?

I'm running a resource-intensive stored procedure, which reads a filewith about 50,000 lines with a BULK INSERT into a temp table, thengoes through it and inserts a record for each line into another table.While this procedure is running, SQL server stops accepting any otherrequests coming from the website.Question:Is there a way to make SQL server "listen", or emulate an "interrupt"to other requests while in the middle of a long intensive process?I really appreciate your replies.Thank you,Oleg.

I have an SSAS 2005 database "A" and SSIS package "P" which process full "A" olap database.
SSAS SERVER connection string is based on a variable read from XML configuration file.
It works well in BIDS, but when i deployed, the package failed at the step connecting SSAS, the message is "a connection cannot be made, please ensure the server is running"
In the connnecting string, i am using server name like servera.xx.com, if I change it to IP address, it works.
if I change it to Localhost(happens to be on the same server), it works.
But I need the server name solution as IP may be changed.
I installed SP2.
Any suggestion?

Hello, I've a problem with a software developed in C# with the framework 2.0. This is the error I receive : The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "XXX_LINKED_SERVER" was unable to begin a distributed transaction. OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "XXX_LINKED_SERVER" returned message "No transaction is active.". If I try directly to restart the process, it works fine. Is there someone who can help me ? This is the process 1. In C# --> Call of a Query : select from the linked server (db in sql 2005) and insert into a table SQL 2005 2. we have our cubes in Server A and SQL DB resides on Server B (we are on SQL 2014), from last couple of days are cube started failing due to below error:

This problem happens on this particular machine and doesn't happen on other machines that I have. And I think this problem belongs to this forum. Because the problem is triggered by a special setting in the connection string.
I followed the steps of threads including Xinwei Hong's instruction for fixing this error(26) but has no luck.
The problem occurs when I call SqlConnection.Open().
I am using window xp, sql2000. the named instance is on local machine, my connection string is like
"Data Source=MSL-1417762\SQL2000;Initial Catalog=PopulateForeignKeys_MSL_1417762_2_5984;Integrated Security=True;Pooling=False;Asynchronous Processing=true"
Whenever I change Asynchronous Processing=true into Asynchronous Processing=false, the problem is gone.
This problem also occurs when I use Visual Studio - Server Explorer - Add Connection dialog - Advanced button - Advanced Properties window where you can set Asynchronous Processing property to true.
Can you please help?

I'm receiving the below error when trying to implement Execute SQL Task.
"The ROLLBACK TRANSACTION request has no corresponding BEGIN TRANSACTION." This error also happens on COMMIT as well and there is a preceding Execute SQL Task with BEGIN TRANSACTION tranname WITH MARK 'tran'
I know I can change the transaction option property from "supported" to "required" however I want to mark the transaction. I was copying the way Import/Export Wizard does it however I'm unable to figure out why it works and why mine doesn't work.
Anyone know of the reason?

I created a Calculated measure in cube something like this : ([TransType].[TransTypeHierarchy].[TransTypeCategoryParent].&[SPEND],[Measures].[Transaction Amount]). To get only spend transactions. Now, I want to slice this measure with same hierarchy to find the amount distribution across different transaction types under spend transaction. But this query behaving like the measure doesn't have relation with measure.
you can think this as below query:

Hi
How do I make use of begin transaction and commit transaction in SSIS.
As am not able to commit changes due to certain update commands I want to explicitly write begin and commit statements. but when i make use of begin and commit in OLEDB commnad stage it throws an error as follows:
Hresult:0x80004005
descriptionyntax error or access violation.
its definately not an syntax error as i executed it in sql server. also when i use it in execute sql task out side the dataflow container it doesnt throw any error but still this task doesnt serve my purpose of saving/ commiting update chanages in the database.

I've recently started working with a public sector organisation who have 4 clustered sql instances that has 80% of it's db mirrored.
Looking at the transaction log - it seems that a transaction log backup is a good idea as the log is 4x larger than the data file.But I'm not allowed access to the physical server to check onto which drive I can create the trn. No RDP, no vmware - let's be honest I'm not even allowed to launch cmd line Also the Server Manager informs me "We will need to carefully look at database backups if you guys want to start doing these backups on box, as that will break our off box backup routine (it will screw the transaction chain)."
I don't understand how backing up the transaction log could break the "transaction chain"?

How do I stop a remote query that INSERTS into a local table from being automatically "upgraded" to a distributed transaction?
I am using Windows 2000 server and SQL Server 2000 SP3a on both machines.
I am executing the following statement in Query analyzer.
INSERT MyLocalServer (col1)
EXECUTE MyRemoteServer.Master.dbo.sp_executesql
@RemoteQuery,
@ParameterDefinition,
@Paramter = 'somevalue'
@RemoteQuery consists of a SELECT four-table join, all tables are on the same linked server.
The Linked server has been set up on MyLocalServer using the "Microsoft OLE DB for SQL Server" provider. In the "Provider Options" for the linked server properties I checked "Non transacted updates" and "dynamic parameters". In the "Server Options" tab I have checked "RPC", "RPC Out", "Data Access".
The EXECUTE part of the query runs great (and returns the data very fast) by itself. But with the INSERT part, the query fails and returns the error:
"Server: Msg 7391, Level 16, State 1, Line 17
The operation could not be performed because the OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB' was unable to begin a distributed transaction.
[OLE/DB provider returned message: New transaction cannot enlist in the specified transaction coordinator. ]
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB' ITransactionJoin::JoinTransaction returned 0x8004d00a]."
The two servers are seperated by firewalls, so I believe the reason the query is failing is that I haven't followed the procedures for setting up the ports etc described in one of the microsoft support articles: e.g.: 250367.
Configuring the ports involves too much company politics, and besides, for what this query does, it does not need the benefits of a distributed transaction.
How can I execute my query without SQL Server automatically trying to upgrade it to a distributed transaction?
More Info: I can execute the query as a straight INSERT/SELECT linked-server query and it does the INSERT on the local SQL Server just like I want it to, so I assume it is not trying to use distributed transactions; but it takes around 7 seconds to run even though the entire SELECT is executed on the linked server, whereas executing with sp_executesql takes only 1 second.
I thought selected "non-transacted updates" in the provider would solve this problem, but it did not.
Anyone know the answer?
