Jul 23, 2007Ok, I'm fairly new to .NET and even newer to the whole database concept. But, don't run away yet, I'm no idiot and I shouldn't have too hard of a time understanding your responses if you're kind of enough to give them. That being said, here's my dilemma:I'm trying to make a database of all the movies I own, the actors in them and the genre (s) they belong to. I have a set of tables that are in the 2NF (I think). I have a movies table, an actors table, a genres table, and two tables called movies_actors and movies_genres with primary-foreign key relationships to pull it all together (e.g. movie_id 1 has two entries in movies_genres, one for Action and one for Drama). My problem arises that when execute my monster query to pull ALL the data on one movie, I get a row returned for every combination of Genres and Actors in a movie. Example:movie_id movie_title comments actor_first actor_last genre_name1 Casino blah blah Robert DeNiro Action1 Casino blah blah Robert DeNiro Drama1 Casino blah blah Joe Pesci Action1 Casino blah blah Joe Pesci Drama And here's the query that produced that:1 SELECT movies.movie_title, movies.comments, actors.actor_first,

3 FROM movies INNER JOIN movies_actors ON movies.movie_id = movies_actors.movie_id

So, I want to put all the actors for one movie into the same cell in the datagrid (same with the genres) and still keep it sortable by actor or genre. Is this possible with the .NET 2.0 datagrid? Do I have some fundamental misunderstanding of how my tables should be structured? Am I just really far off and acting like a n00b?

Jun 22, 1999When executing an inline insert into command from isqw/w the command executes perfectly. Yet when I try to create a stored procedure with exactly the same insert into statement it will not create. It does not like the database.owner.table prefix on the selected rows. Any suggestions ??

I have a Users table in Oracle database and same table (Users) in SQL Server 2000 database. I want to create a DTS Package through which I can copy the data from Oracle database to SQL Server 2000 database. This package should run automatically at mid-night daily so that if there are some entries done in Oracle database then it get copied in SQL Server 2000 database. Also is there any way to copy only those entries from Oracle database which are not present in SQL Server 2000 database. Please help me in this regard as I am new to DTS.

I am have a two tables. I want to transfer data from Table1 to Table2 but depending on BRK_TITLE. For example, if BRK_TITLE is "Testing" then table1.BRK_QUANT would go to Table2.Qty1, if BRK_Title ="My Testing" then it would go to table2.qty2 and so on...
but problem is every time BRK_TITLE changes. these are not constant titles(e.g. title may be 'abc', '134' etc)
If data belongs to title3 then it would go to the specific quantity i.e. table2.qty3

Data Transfer From Two Identical Tables.

I have two tables named Tab1 and Tab2. Both are identical in structure. The only diff is Tab2 has two more additional fields (FromDate and ToDate).
The structure is like below :
Col1
Col2 (Date field)
Col3
Col4
Also Tab 2 have
Col5 (From Date)
Col6 (To Date)
Now I want to transfer some set of reocrds from Tab1 to Tab2. The additional Tab2 field (Col5 and Col6) values should be the minimum and maximum values of Tab1 date field for the current set.
How to accomplish this? Kindly help me in this regard.

I am transferring data from one SQL table to another. The first table has a PK on the unique id only, the second table has PK on five fields (the idea being to reject duplicate records etc. etc.). I am using a DTS package to do this, but when run it will fail when it hits a PK violation. How do I getround this??????? What simple thing am i missing??

How To Create A Datagrid For Two No Relationship Tables
Jan 13, 2004Hi, I am trying to create a create for two table A and table B which have no relationship each time. For TableA, there are 3 columns like ID, APoints1, APoint2. For Table B, there are also 3 columns as ID, Qty, BPoints. There is no internal relationship for these two tables. But there may be same ID inside A and B for some records. Now I want to create a datagrid for displaying the information as :
ID, Sum(A.APoints1 + A.APoints2) - Sum(B.Qty * B.BPoints) WHERE A.ID = B.ID
Please Notice that I can't use directly SQL script as following from table A and table B because there is no relationship for Table A and Table B, otherwise the recult set would be wrong:
Select A.ID, Sum(A.APoints1 + A.APoints2) - Sum(B.Qty * B.BPoints) WHERE A.ID = B.ID group by A.ID
May I know is there solution for it?

I am developing a system for my uni course and I am stuck a little problem...
Basically its all about lecturers, students modules etc - A student has many modules, a module has manu students, a lecturer has many modules and a module has many lecturers.
I am trying to get a list of lecturers that run modules associated with a particular student. I am able to get a list of the appropriate lecturers, but some lecturers are repeated because they teach more than one module that the student is associated with.
How can I stop the repeats?

May 30, 2008Is it possible/advisable when transfering very large amounts of data from server to server to:
trasnfer the data to a new table first
second alter new table adding indexes, defaults, ets based on original table
if it is what flow item would be used to transfer/alter the indexes and defaults?

Feb 24, 2004what i'm trying to do is simply display the contents of the sqldata to verify that it works. and it doesn't. i have created a simple database named 'test' and table 'list' with fields: 'name' and 'id'. i have made 3 records as follows:

what i did is connect to the database, click and drag it over to the canvas and codes were generated. if i run it, by default it should show all the contents of the table, correct? well, it isn't. i've tried it using a datagrid and it still doesn't work.
is there an access problem with the database? or, what settings to have to make/change in my sql server? by the way, i have MSDE.

our organization regularly pumps data from an AS/400 database (db2) to SQL Server 7 tables with the help of DTS. Some of the data transfers are straight column copy and several are ActiveX transformations. Also, we've got some of the transformations defined directly inside the select statement in the Source tab of the DTS designer. There is one stored procedure which collects and does computations with the data to put into a number of Excel reports. The strange thing is that some of the data seems to be getting corrupted somehow as it is transferred, because the resulting data in sql server is not identical to that which was transferred. We get outrageously high values for one of the columns with no apparent pattern. There are no error log entries for this, and we've already confirmed that all the transformation scripts and stored procedure functions that we've been using are correct. Would doing a server trace be of any help, and if so what should I be looking for and could you just brief me on how to start one, since I've never had the need to do one so far. May 27, 2008I have an issue related to data migration.
We are developing a data migration tool that transfer data from the live sql server (used by customer) to another sql server.
we use SSIS packages to perform the migration. we have a engine (developed in c#) that reads the SSIS package and executes it.
Now, as the source sql server is live, it is certain to undergo changes during the data transfer operation. Changes would mostly be insert or update. After the data migration is completed the delta has to be taken care of.
I am looking for an efficient mechanism to transfer the delta from the live sql server to the target sql server.

I'm looking for some advice. We have multiple remote SQL Server 2005 systems at various clients that all contain the same WorkTrack database. We need to send this data on a daily basis from all of these remote servers to our main server (ChemWeb/Spindle) in our corporate office. The thing is that we need to do this over standard HTTP - no VPN connection, etc.
So I'm thinking of using SQL 2005 Web services to do such. Here's my plan (the name of the Database on the client side and server is WorkTrack, and SDP is the acronym I am using for a Spindle Data Packet which contains the data to be updated from the client)
1. Every day update a WorkTrack_SDP database on the client server that will contain all of the data from WorkTrack (name of Spindle Client Database) that has changed since the last SDP transfer. This WorkTrack_SDP database will only contain the tables from the WorkTrack database that are necessary for transfer to the ChemWeb/Spindle server
2. The WorkTrack_SDP database will have the same schema as the WorkTrack database with one additional Customer_No column in each table.
3. All of the tables in WorkTrack_SDP database will be truncated before insertion of updated data.
4. An acknowledgement of the previous SDP transfer and ChemWeb/Spindle Server update will be required before this process will proceed.
5. There will be an additional table in the Client WorkTrack database to track SDP transfers.
a. Date/Time range of updated data of each transfer
b. When the transfer was sent
c. When the transfer was completed.
6. Create SPROC’s on the ChemWeb/Spindle server to serve as SQL Endpoints (Web Services) to update/insert data from client systems to WorkTrack_SDP database on the ChemWeb/Spindle Server.
7. Create SPROC on ChemWeb/Spindle server that will transfer data from WorkTrack_SDP into WorkTrack

Excel To Sql Server Data Transfer

I am new to SQL server world.
I have a task to transfer data from excel sheet(s) to sql server.
I read I could do that using DTS.
But the problem is I have more than 1 excel files and in my table I need to get records from both the files with out duplication the data.
ex: one excel sheet conatins field 1,2,3
second sheet contains field 1,4,5,6 (now I should put data in the sql table as 1,2,3,4,5,6)
I will have to continue to do add data to this table as I get new excel sheets (the fields will remain same).
Can somebody help me with this?
If you can also give me some references for this it will be very helpful.

Data Transfer From ODBC To Sql Server

Can Anybody tell me the different ways of transfering data from ODBC Layer to SQL Server using C#.
I want to transfer using Threads,means by running 4 threads, I need to transfer 4 tables at a time.
Though we have SQLBulk copy Object in .NET it's not useful in multi threader env.
Can anybody help me in this.
