Transfer Of Data Between Tables In Different Databases On Same Server
Jun 22, 1999
When executing an inline insert into command from isqw/w the command executes perfectly. Yet when I try to create a stored procedure with exactly the same insert into statement it will not create. It does not like the database.owner.table prefix on the selected rows. Any suggestions ??
Hi, I have a Users table in Oracle database and same table (Users) in SQL Server 2000 database. I want to create a DTS Package through which I can copy the data from Oracle database to SQL Server 2000 database. This package should run automatically at mid-night daily so that if there are some entries done in Oracle database then it get copied in SQL Server 2000 database. Also is there any way to copy only those entries from Oracle database which are not present in SQL Server 2000 database. Please help me in this regard as I am new to DTS.
I have two databases DB1 and DB2 With Tables T11,T12 and T21, T22 respectively. All the tables in the two databases have the same structure.
I need help on a script to clear the contents of Table T21 and T22 in the DB2 database And load the contents of Table T11 and T12 ( Table have about 2 Million records of data ) into T21 and T22.
Ok say we've got two databases with two tables and we need to transfer data from one to another. However, the data structure in sourceDB is different to targetDB. Better to illustrate: sourceDB tablesource PIN SYSTEM HEADER PROPERTY VALUE STATUS 1000 AF ADDRESS DETAILS LINE 1 The Grange Active 1000 AF ADDRESS DETAILS LINE 2 69 Tintagel Way 1000 AF ADDRESS DETAILS LINE 3 Woking 1001 AF ADDRESS DETAILS LINE 1 50 Active 8888 AF ADDRESS DETAILS LINE 2 Evans Way 8888 AF ADDRESS DETAILS LINE 3 Islington 8888 AF ADDRESS DETAILS 8888 AF ADDRESS DETAILS 8888 AF ADDRESS DETAILS
Now each matching PIN on the multiple rows in sourceDB above relates to one customer. In order to extract the relevant info for an address for instance for each customer, we need to know the unique PIN, header, property and value fields.
So I created this piece of SQL which gives me the result in targetDB:
INSERT into targetDB.dbo.tabletarget (address1) SELECT value FROM sourceDB.dbo.tablesource WHERE pin = 1000 AND header ='address details' AND property = 'line 1'
targetDB tabletarget PIN ADDRESS1 ADDRESS2 ADDRESS3 SOURCE The Grange
Fine, I've proved I can extract a specific field, but I need to do this for all fields and all customers.
Hello everyone, Here's my situation... I'm running a web service which involves 51 seperate servers and databases. There are fifty licensee servers (One for each US state) and one corporate server. Each night I need to upload sales and membership data from the licensee's databases to the corporate database to compile reports. The application platform I'm using is ASP.NET 2.0 and the the database is SQL2005 express. I want this process to be run automatically, so I believe it's a scheduled windows service I need to setup up in .NET to make the data transfers. If anyone has already set something up like this, or knows the steps to take? I would love to have your input. Thanks in advance, Robert
Hi, I have several databases on one MSQL Server which I want to transfer to new server. So, basically it is tranferring all contents of sql server databases on one server to another one. I know I can use import Wizard, but it will take long time, is there a more better way to do this.
I got 2 SQL servers. One is legacy SQL 6.5 and the other one is SQL 2005. They are installed in different machine. How can I copy or migrate the old 6.5 version databases to SQL 2005 server?
Someone said I should upgrade the 6.5 to version 2000 first. Is it the only method? I didn't have SQL 2000 install cdrom and license. How can I do that?
I am have a two tables. I want to transfer data from Table1 to Table2 but depending on BRK_TITLE. For example, if BRK_TITLE is "Testing" then table1.BRK_QUANT would go to Table2.Qty1, if BRK_Title ="My Testing" then it would go to table2.qty2 and so on... but problem is every time BRK_TITLE changes. these are not constant titles(e.g. title may be 'abc', '134' etc)
If data belongs to title3 then it would go to the specific quantity i.e. table2.qty3
Hi, In SQL Server 2005 Express I currently have 2 databases which I€™m working on, my problem is I want to transfer a table from one of the databases to the other but don't know how to go about achieving this? I want the table structure and all the info held within the table transferred across. Any ideas are welcome.
Hi, I have two tables named Tab1 and Tab2. Both are identical in structure. The only diff is Tab2 has two more additional fields (FromDate and ToDate). The structure is like below : Col1 Col2 (Date field) Col3 Col4
Also Tab 2 have Col5 (From Date) Col6 (To Date)
Now I want to transfer some set of reocrds from Tab1 to Tab2. The additional Tab2 field (Col5 and Col6) values should be the minimum and maximum values of Tab1 date field for the current set.
How to accomplish this? Kindly help me in this regard.
i have to transfer data from one table to three other new tables. and if there are any duplicates in original table i have to send them to duplicates table.the remaining data should be send to three other tables. so can anyone help writting stored procedure for this.
I am transferring data from one SQL table to another. The first table has a PK on the unique id only, the second table has PK on five fields (the idea being to reject duplicate records etc. etc.). I am using a DTS package to do this, but when run it will fail when it hits a PK violation. How do I getround this??????? What simple thing am i missing??
Hi all,we are developing an internal application that involves "Timesheets","Support" and "Project Management".Imagine that there are 3 different databases for the above scenario, under SQL Server 2000.My task is to create one or a few table triggers forINSERT/UPDATE/DELETE operations. For example:- if a row is added in Table A of "Timesheets" database, then Table Bof "Project Management" needs to be updated. The concept is clear i think. The question is how we do the above.Note that I am a new progremmer to SQL Server (I have been dealingwith Oracle so far), and I don't know how we programmatically connectto different database within a trigger, how do we check thepriviledges etc.Can someone help me?ThanksChristos Andronicou
Currently we have one customer database containing various tables. As part of requirements for a new client, we need to manage their data in a totally separate database. The tables and structure are exactly the same but we would be loading data into a separate database.
I am looking for a way to combine tables with the same name in each database when I run queries, rather than having to query each database separately. Currently we actually have many queries set up in MS Access which use an ODBC link to query the data off SQL server. I am aware it is possible to apply a UNION SELECT in Access from 2 separate ODBC connections, but this is extremely slow.So my initial question is - is there a way to provide access to the tables from both databases over the same ODBC link? If this cannot be done over ODBC I guess we can consider more "modern" methods, but ideally we want to keep this in MS Access as that is where our existing queries are based. I was hoping that some kind of view can be treated as an ODBC connection.I mentioned ideally we want to keep the reporting queries in MS Access.
I have Two Database that exist on Two seperate servers. The two database contain same schema and contains tables and columns of same name. Some tables have slight differences in terms of data types or Data type lenght.
For example if a Table on ServerA has a column named - CustomerSale with Varchar (100, Null) and a table on ServerB has a column named CustomerSale with Varchar (60, Null), how can i find if other columns have similar differences in all tables with the same name and columns in the two servers.
I am using SQL Server 2005. And the Two Servers are Linked Servers
What Script can i use to accomplish this task. Thanks
I would like to make multiples copies of a database. What I used to do in MS-SQL 6.5 was create a backup of the database that I want to make copy from. Create new (empty) databases and restored the backed up database into the new databases. Another way that I used to do is to use the Database Transfer feature in the Enterprise Manager.
I want to do the same thing in MS-SQL 7 (beta 3) but it seems to me that I couldn't do that. First, there is no Database Transfer feature like that in 6.5. Next, I couldn't restore a backed up database to another database.
I know there is the Import/Export utility but it is the last thing I have to use if I don't have any other choice.
My vendor requires data to be sent in Excel format. Some of my tables have rows over 65,536 so I need to use Excel 2007 (Max of 1,048,576). Right now my data sits in SQL 2000. I am using MS SQL Enterprise Manager 8.0 to prepare the data. Is there some kind of add on or selection I am missing to use DTS to export from SQL to Excel 2007?Thanks in advance.
I have two database(MYDB1 , MYDB2) on two different server's(SERVER1 , SERVER2) . I want to create an store procedure in MYDB1 on SERVER1 and get some data from a table of MYDB2 on SERVER2. How can i do this?
Is it possible/advisable when transfering very large amounts of data from server to server to: trasnfer the data to a new table first second alter new table adding indexes, defaults, ets based on original table
if it is what flow item would be used to transfer/alter the indexes and defaults?
I'm very new to ssis so the more detail you can give the better.
Dear Readers,Is it possible, like in Access, to link to tables in other SQL databases that are on the same server? I have a query that I originally had in Access that queered from multiply databases. It did this by having those other tables in the other databases linked to the database that had the query.
Hi, I have 2 similar databases on the same SQL server (due to licencing and customisation issues for off the shelf software).
I would like to create a third database with site specific lookup tables to map data across to site codes, to do summary queries for data reporting, and to create a single point for data access. I can't modify the 2 databases.
I have created the third database and added the necessary tables, relationships, views, etc. But, how do I link to tables in the other databases on the same server so that I can do joins in a query/view ? I have SQL Server Enterprise manager.
hi i have a project and i want make thats; 1-)The list All SQL Server(s) in my network to dropdrown list(that's ok) 2-) the list all databases to selected sqlserver(that's ok) 3-) the list tables to selected database(i cant)

I have two databases in sql server. I'll call them DB1 and DB2. I have a table in DB2 that needs to form a relationship with a table in DB1. When I attempt to add a relationship I only see tables in DB2. Can this be done?
get a list of indexes on all tables in all dbs on a SQL server.
If the index property to allow page locks is off, then turn it on, re-index and turn it off again. My problem is: i want to use ' Use <db>' statement in the middle of my script but it is not working.I tried using dynamic SQL with
set @cmd='use '+ @dbname exec (@cmd) But this is not working. Can we use 'use' statement in the middle of a script? If not what is the alternative?
My script looks as follows:
DECLARE @Database VARCHAR(255)
DECLARE @Table VARCHAR(255)
declare @Index varchar(255)
DECLARE @cmd NVARCHAR(500)
DECLARE @fillfactor INT
SET @fillfactor = 90

SELECT name FROM master.dbo.sysdatabases
WHERE name NOT IN ('master','model','msdb','tempdb','distrbution')
ORDER BY 1

WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0
BEGIN
SET @cmd = 'DECLARE TableCursor CURSOR FOR SELECT table_catalog + ''.'' + table_schema + ''.'' + table_name as tableName
FROM ' + @Database + '.INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES WHERE table_type = ''BASE TABLE'''
-- create table cursor

This question is about SQL Server 2005: I have been trying to figure out how to copy tables and stored procedures between 2 databases (on the same server) using SQL Server Management Studio. I have tried right clicking on the table name, "script table as", "drop to", "clipboard", then I click on the 2nd database, and then click on the "tables" . I change the name of the database and click "execute". This creates the table but does not copy the data. I have also tried "create to" "clipboard" and "insert to" "clipboard" and cannot seem to be able to figure out how to get the results that I want. I am new at this but need to get the tables with the data copied along with the stored procedures, even if I have to do them one at a time. When I was using SQL Server 2000, I was able to use DTS to copy objects to other databases easily. Can someone please tell me a way to accomplish what I need to do? I have gotten information here before that was very useful and was hoping that someone can help me again.Thank you so much. Carol Quinn
Please give me a direction where to go to solve this problem... our organization regularly pumps data from an AS/400 database (db2) to SQL Server 7 tables with the help of DTS. Some of the data transfers are straight column copy and several are ActiveX transformations. Also, we've got some of the transformations defined directly inside the select statement in the Source tab of the DTS designer. There is one stored procedure which collects and does computations with the data to put into a number of Excel reports. The strange thing is that some of the data seems to be getting corrupted somehow as it is transferred, because the resulting data in sql server is not identical to that which was transferred. We get outrageously high values for one of the columns with no apparent pattern. There are no error log entries for this, and we've already confirmed that all the transformation scripts and stored procedure functions that we've been using are correct. Would doing a server trace be of any help, and if so what should I be looking for and could you just brief me on how to start one, since I've never had the need to do one so far. Thanks for the help in advance.
