Transfer View Results In SQL7 To Access/Excel

Hi,
Does anyone know the method to transfer result data of a view or stored procedure
in MS SQL 7.0 to MS Access or Excel , Manually or automatically? I did not find the
right tool in SQL 7 to do so.
I notice we can transfer table from SQL 7 to MS Access / Excel through DTS. But did not
find any tool/menu to transfer result of view / stored procedure.
I am new to SQL 7. Maybe this is a silly ?. Any help will be appreciated.

I do not know if you can see my reply after yours. Any way I try it here again.
In the DTS Export Wizard, after select the source (SQL Server)and destination (Excel),
I have 2 choices:Table copy or query.
When I use query, I can place my sp there, and the export works fine exactly as you recommended.
Thanks a lot.
But when I selected a table copy, I was given a "Select Source Tables" popup form, I can
see all the table names there, but can not find any views in the database. I do not know why.
Am I in the right place this time?

I would like to transfer these results to an excel sheet. For instance when the user opens up the excel worksheet and types in for a example a start date: 01-01-2007 and an end date: 03-05-2007 (into textboxes) then clicks a button say called 'Get stats' and then the results appear on the sheet.
How can this be done?

Hi there,
I would like to make multiples copies of a database. What I used to do in MS-SQL 6.5 was create a backup of the database that I want to make copy from. Create new (empty) databases and restored the backed up database into the new databases. Another way that I used to do is to use the Database Transfer feature in the Enterprise Manager.
I want to do the same thing in MS-SQL 7 (beta 3) but it seems to me that I couldn't do that. First, there is no Database Transfer feature like that in 6.5. Next, I couldn't restore a backed up database to another database.
I know there is the Import/Export utility but it is the last thing I have to use if I don't have any other choice.

Has anyone experienced this problem?
Certain queries that work fine in SQL 6.5 and Oracle return inconsistent / inaccurate results in SQL 7 (with SP1). These queries include an IN clause with a range of values.
For example, the following query:
SELECT columnA, columnB, columnC, columnD
FROM table
WHERE columnD = 'I'
AND columnA IN (1,2,3,11,19)
go
returns a different result than this query:
SELECT columnA, columnB, columnC, columnD
FROM table
WHERE columnD = 'I'
AND columnA IN (1,3,11,2,19)
go
The only way we have stumbled upon to get accurate results consistently is to order the range values from largest to smallest:
AND columnA IN (19,11,3,2,1)
Have not seen this documented anywhere. We are in the process of re-ordering these ranges in our code, but I welcome any ideas or comments...

I dont know if i am missing out something but when i use DTS to convert an Excel file to SQL(containing no column heading) it automatically accepts the first column as the row heading..in other words i lose one line of data...
does anyone know how to avoid this?

Hi, when I copy and paste results from query analyzer into Excel it appears that values with zeroes at the end loose the zeroes. Example, if I copy and paste V128.0 into an Excel cell it comes out as V128 or if I copy 178.70 it displays as 178.7 - any ideas? I'm using SQL Enterprise Manager for 2000.

I've been googling this for a while now and can't seem to find any elegant answers.
I'm looking for an automated way to present a FORMATED Excel Spreadsheet to the Customer from a stored procedure output.
Can anyone advise me the best method of doing this - should I / can I assign an Excel Template to the DTS Task output ?
His mind is set on Excel and the formatting is basic and easy to write in a Macro which I've done, but this requires human interaction to finish the task (Automated Run Once on opening etc).
In an ideal world an individual would send an email to the Server with two formated parameters (@FromDate & @ToDate) and would be emailed back a ready formatted S/Sheet. But I believe he would be willing to just select the relevant SpreadSheet for the Daily / Weekly / Monthly periods dumped.

Help!,
I've got an access front end containing various forms and sub forms, and we have just transferred the data into SQL, for storage, we can use the majority of the forms but, I now have a problem with updating the related data.
We have had problems updating the data, we need to close the form down in order to get amended data to register, just moving onto the next record give an ODBC error message.
Even using this method some details refuse to update, although the changes are initially visible on the form you cannot get them to transfer to the datafile.
the error message we get is
[microsoft][odbc sql server driver][sql server] the text, ntext, and image datatypes cannot be used in the where,having, or on clause, except with the like or is null predicates (#306)
we've checked the structures of the tables and the code in the form (it works in the old access back end).
anybody got any ideas

I need to take my 'table stats'every week and put them into an excel spreadsheet so that I can track the changes of my table sizes over time (basically I am watching to see how many rows are in each table). What I was planning on doing was to create a view of my table stats that I could then use DTS to transfer on a weekly basis into my excel spreadsheet. I have only used DTS a couple of times, and I have not ever tried it with excel. Now the problem: Everytime my DTS job runs it appends the data to the end of the origional columns that were created. Since my database has over 5000 tables these columns grow quite quickly. What I would like to do is set it up so that everytime the job runs it puts the new data into new columns in the same worksheet of my excel file. Is this possible? Any suggestions?

Using SSIS to export from SQL 2005 database to Excel. SQL includes numeric and datatime fields, but when exported to excel they all arrive formatted as text. Any idea how to get them formatted in Excel ?

I usually export the query using "Results To File" and save it as a csv. I think open MS Excel, open the csv file from Excel and then use the delimited wizard. Is there a quicker way with less steps?

Hello,
I am new to SQL server world.
I have a task to transfer data from excel sheet(s) to sql server.
I read I could do that using DTS.
But the problem is I have more than 1 excel files and in my table I need to get records from both the files with out duplication the data.
ex: one excel sheet conatins field 1,2,3
second sheet contains field 1,4,5,6 (now I should put data in the sql table as 1,2,3,4,5,6)
I will have to continue to do add data to this table as I get new excel sheets (the fields will remain same).
Can somebody help me with this?
If you can also give me some references for this it will be very helpful.

Hi All,
I need to do data transfer from three tables in SQL server 2005 to the single Excel sheet as a report. Even If I create a Lists or named range, I couldn't able to transfer the data into the Lists. The idea is, whenever the data is transfered into the Lists, the three Lists (or Range) having data should grow separately.
Currently the data is transfered out of the Lists.
Anyone can help me.

I am getting an error when an while tranfering data from excel
the error is
[Excel Source [31]] Error: There was an error with output column "Problem Description" (61) on output "Excel Source Output" (39). The column status returned was: "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page.".
[Excel Source [31]] Error: The "output column "Problem Description" (61)" failed because truncation occurred, and the truncation row disposition on "output column "Problem Description" (61)" specifies failure on truncation. A truncation error occurred on the specified object of the specified component.
[DTS.Pipeline] Error: The PrimeOutput method on component "Excel Source" (31) returned error code 0xC020902A. The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput(). The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing.

I have a table in a database that has very old and not very relational and I want to create a quick view to show the information in a better way. Let's say that the table has 4 fields : id , child1, child2, child3. I want to create a view from this table that will show two fields : id and child. So, my table currently looks like this:

and i would like it like this......

I have a complex view which generated about 9000 results, and I use
a SP to select certain results from that view. How can I modify the
results of the SP? for example I want to add a zero to every single
companynumber the SP gives me...

It'sa little complex, but the view works fine. It looks to me like when Irun the 5th statement above, it re-runs the view and then finds anerror.So, I took the complex view and ran that with the data output into atemporary table with the queries above run against that, and it worksfine. The problem is that the statement I need is based around the 5thone above (part of an update statement).I'm struggling to understand why some of the queries above work andone doesn't. If you look at 3 and 5 I'd expect them both to fail. Ifit failed consistently I could get further into it.The problem is that it's a little difficult to get the view itselfchanged as it was supplied by a third party, but if it hasn't changedand the data hasn't changed then it's got to be something else causingthe problem.Anyway, as I said, it's a bit obscure, but if this sounds familiar I'dbe interested in your opinion.Thanks in advance.

We have a large number of applications that use various sql databases. They need to validate and do lookups of information such as employees and addresses. Currently, we load data from oracle into our main sql server and push the data out to various servers. This could perhaps be simplified with replication, but is now done with some dts packages.
We are wondering if there could be a better way to do this. We would like to go directly against oracle for the address data and to sql for the employee info.
An idea I had was to have our programmers create a web service that could be called from our .net applications. That works fine for in house applications, but some vendor applications need to see a table or view. We can write a CLR proc that can connect to the web service and provide data in table format I believe.
How could we get this into a view? I've tried creating a function that calls the proc and returns the table-valued variable to the view, but it seems the functions doesn't like using 'exec myProc' in the select_statement parameter.
I suppose we could have them make an additional connection to the lookup information, stored on a central database...they are probably doing this anyway to get to the validation db on the same server.

I have a view over 5 tables that has started giving unreliable results. There are three records that should be different, but in a production Access database, the view is giving three identical records where there should be three unique records. I have tested the view within SQL Server Management Studio and it gives the correct records there. But, I have attached this same view into the same Access database with two separate names. One instance of the view within Access database gives the correct records, and the other gives the incorrect (duplicated) records. I have attached screen shots that show these two separately named incarnations of the same SQL View, with the duplicated data, or the unique data highlighted.
I have also included the SQL query specs for this view.
what I can do to this view in order for it to always give us the unique records that we need, rather than sometimes the correct records, and sometimes the incorrect records.

I developed a web application with MS Access there is a destop application that works with MS SQL SERVER 2000. The web application is just meant to allow user to view data and very little modification. I need to transfer from MS SQL Server to another MS Access database on another machine for security reasons and then to the internet server. Please can someone help me on this or any better method to go about this

I am facing a big problem in data transfer from Access To SQL. Well the problem is i want to transfer nr about 50 lacs record from access to sql. at my side where sql server is complete install i could not find any problem and it transfer all data in 5 to 7 mins. now problem is at client side we not install entire sql but we install sql runtime which is available with installshied. and whenever i start to transfer data there is another exe called DLLHost.exe is run and it ate near about 70% to 75% Memory of system. well i use sql OPENROWSET statement and as soon as that statement fire at machine where entire sql is not install and only runtime install it starts to eat system memory so instead of transfer all data in 5 to 10 min it take more then 6 hrs bcaz dllhost.exe eat memory. is there any better way to transfer this records more fast pls let me know.

I have a sproc in my database that when editing in VS 2003 shows different results.
The sproc code is:

When I open the SQL statement in the designer and run (and enter my parameters) I get a recordset returned, but when I just "Run Stored Procedure" and enter the same parameters I get no results. The same occurs when I run the sproc from my website (no results).
Any ideas what is happening between the two?
