Translation Of StrConnectie = Provider=SQLOLEDB; && _ Data Source=(local)SQLEXPRESS; &&

Jul 3, 2007

Hello,
I'm struggling a giant fight with my webprovider (ASP.net 2.0) in the following case:
I'm using the default connectionstring which automatic is provided when I create an ASP.net webstarterskit. This connectionstring is working fine when i deployed that kit to a W2003 server testenvironment and is also running on my laptop.

But when I tried to deploy the website to my (new) hostingserver, also a W2003 server, I landed in ERROR-land.
The last error I received was:
Cannot open database "Club" requested by the login. The login failed.
>
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE'.
NB: I gave that user the right privileges and roles.
My provider is not willing in sending me an example of a good working connectionstring and is directing me to their FAQ-site in which the right connectionstring is mentioned. That string looks like this (for a MS SQL database):
strConnectie = "Provider=SQLOLEDB;" & _ "Data Source=(local)SQLEXPRESS;"
& _ "Initial Catalog=[GEBRUIKERSNAAM];" & _ "User Id=[GEBRUIKERSNAAM];" & _ "Password=[WACHTWOORD]"

My connectionstring in web.config looks like this:
<connectionStrings>
<clear/>
<add name="ClubSiteDB"
connectionString="Data
Source=.SQLExpress;Integrated Security=true;AttachDBFileName=|DataDirectory|Club.mdf;User
Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
<remove
name="LocalSqlServer"/>
<add name="LocalSqlServer"
connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=True;User
Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf"
/>
</connectionStrings>

Is there anybody in this forum that can help me out and explain to me how to use the string, as provided by the host, in the default connectionstring i use in web.config ??
Any help is welcome and appreciated.
NB: I'm using VWD 2005 Express Edition and SQL Server Management Studio Express

Java.sql.SQLException: Could Not Get The Data Of The Row From The OLE DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB'

Mar 27, 2007

Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 Edition service pack 1
SQL Server 2000 Enterprise edition 32 bit, SP4 : 2000.8.00.2039

jdbc driver: jtds
connection string: jdbc:jtdsqlserver://ZH-DATA-4:1434/[dbname];instance=[instance name]

the connectivity works fine...almost.

I have 2 identical sql servers one of which is linked to the other via a linked server config which for one particular query gives back the error I give in the subject of this thread:
java.sql.SQLException: Could not get the data of the row from the OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB'

if I run the exact same sql string in query analyser it runs with no problem.
if have similar queries also running from java which use the linked server and these do not give an error. I am at a loss as to explain why this is happening.

the query in question joins together a number of views which reference the linked server.

I have tried everything I can think of including recreating the views and linked server definition.
If all is OK in query analyser, how can it fail when called over jbdc (especially when all other db requests succeed) ?

Provider=SQLOLEDB In Our Legacy System, What Does It Mean?

Apr 9, 2008

if we see provider=sqloledb in the connection string of a legacy sql server 2000/2005 system we're trying to understand better, can we conclude that ODBC is definitely not in the client picture, that possibly OLEDB is and that SQL Native isnt? Can we conclude for sure what middleware must be in use?

My limited understanding of this "middleware" space is that ODBC is old and restrictive, OLEDB is a lot more state of the art and general, and that SQL Native is more proprietary than OLEDB.

Even if we can conclude what middleware must be in use, is it generally as simple as changing a connection string and ensuring installation of the preferred middleware in upgrading to better performing middleware?

2005/2005Express SQLOLEDB Provider Problem

Aug 28, 2006

When creating a connection string in ADO (using Delphi7), I insert the provider like this:

Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=.;Initial Catalog=master;Integrated Security=SSPI;User ID=sa;Password=masterkey

Now, when I try to run this on a SQL Server 2005 or SQL2005 Express database, it won't create the connection
unless I use the SQLNCLI provider.

Is there a way to force them to use the OLEDB provider?
I have MDAC2.8-SP1 installed.

Linked Server Issue: The Operation Could Not Be Performed Because The OLE DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB' Was Unable To Begin A Distribut

Jan 16, 2008

Hi,
I was making a linked server connection between 2 SQL Server 2000 servers (both running on Windows 2003 Server), and I was creating an insert trigger in one of the SQL Server table to insert the same value to the other SQL table. But when I try to make an insert to the table, the following error occurred :

Server: Msg 7391, Level 16, State 1, Procedure <triggername>, Line xx
The operation could not be performed because the OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB' was unable to begin a distributed transaction.
[OLE/DB provider returned message: New transaction cannot enlist in the specified transaction coordinator. ]
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB' ITransactionJoin::JoinTransaction returned 0x8004d00a].

I tried to change the trigger into a SELECT statement only and the error still occurred. But when I tried to insert a row directly to the linked server via Query Analyzer, it succeeded.
I have read KB 280106, KB 306212, and KB 329332, and I've tried SET XACT_ABORT ON statement, but none of them can solve the problem.
If there's anyone who has idea on what's wrong or has a suggestion what I should try please help.
Thank you in advance.

The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' Provider Is Not Registered On The Local Machine. (System.Data)

Oct 25, 2007

I am on an XP Pro 32-bit laptop, running SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition. I want to import an Excel spreadsheet into one of my databases using (formerly known as) DTS. The Excel spreadsheet was created in 2003 (I have Office 2007 installed on this laptop). Whenever I try and do any OleDb import, I get the error:

TITLE: SQL Server Import and Export Wizard
------------------------------
The operation could not be completed.
------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine. (System.Data)
------------------------------
BUTTONS:
OK
------------------------------

I cannot install/reinstall MDAC because I have the latest version. What else can I try?

As additional information, I also get the error when trying to import anything into or export anything out of Access 2007. I'm pretty sure MDAC is awful, but I still need OleDb providers for much of the work I am doing.

GO
EXEC master.dbo.sp_serveroption @server=N'GGSyncCSV', @optname=N'use remote collation', @optvalue=N'true'

The SQL statement "Select * from [GGSyncCSV]...[MerchoMasterInfo#CSV]" always returns the content of the CSV file until 2 days ago.

I like to ask: is there anything that causes OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" not working properly?

Any possible solution for this issue?

Thanks.

Using Teradata .NET Data Provider As Data Source

May 15, 2006

Recently I installed the .NET data provider for Teradata.
In a regular C# application I can add the namespace, "using
Teradata.Client.Provider;" to connect to this data provider
directly without going though ODBC or OLD DB so I know it works.

However, when I open Reporting Services (new project -> Business Intelligence
Projects) I do not see how to add the Teradata .NET provider. I only
see the same standard data types as before. I have searched and I do
not see how to add the Teradata .NET provider to the available "Type"
list when you click €œAdd New Data Source€? to your report.
Thanks!

Can't Connect To Linked SQL Server: Cannot Initialize The Data Source Object Of OLE DB Provider SQLNCLI

May 23, 2007

I find this most perplexing.

I have two servers, DEV and PROD. Now my DEV server works just great, I can connect to the linked server, query, etc... all is well.

So I'm setting up my PROD server and when I go to add the linked server I get:

Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI".... and Unable to complete login process due to delay in opening server connection.

Now I am running SQL Server 2005 and connecting to an SQL 2000 server.

The odd part is that this works just fine on DEV.

When I go to create the linked server I set:

Linked Server: "LinkedServerName"

Server Type: "SQL Server"

and that's it.

I go to Security and enter my DOMAINUSER.ACCOUNT and then enter the login creds for the linked server.

When I click "OK" I get the above mentioned error code.

Any thoughts?

Cannot Initialize Data Source Object Of OLE DB Provider When Reset Linked Server To Oracle

I wanna to create a linked server which connect to oracle.  Here are my steps:

1.Install Oracel drivers Oracle Data Access Components.

2.Configure the Oracle Ole DB provider to run inside the SQL Server process and configure it to accept parameters. exec

exec sp_addlinkedsrvlogin @rmtsrvname='MyOracle', @useself=N'FALSE', @rmtuser=N'root', @rmtpassword='Sqlexp!23'

Any Solution? Cannot Initialize The Data Source Object Of OLE DB Provider Microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0 For Linked Server (null).

Jul 22, 2007

This is a problem that never get solved, sometime I can use other way to avoid it, but havn't found a solution yet, i hope I can get some more idea here.

I am using SQL 2005, when I run

select * into #import1
from OpenRowSet('microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0','Excel 8.0;hdr=yes;database=\ws8webjeff2.xls',
'select * from [jeff2$]')

I get

Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0" for linked server "(null)".

when I try to compile a SP with that statement in it, I get the same error, like

create stored procedure test

as begin

select * into #import1
from OpenRowSet('microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0','Excel 8.0;hdr=yes;database=\ws8webjeff2.xls',
'select * from [jeff2$]')

end

so it seems the error may not relate to the real file, since at the compile stage, it should not check the real file?

On my live db, after I restart the SQL service, the statement will work, after a while, one or several days, I get the same error again. I can not restart my live db quite often for sure, so now I have another backup db server, I need run the statement on the backup server and then read the data from there.

I have the same problem at two places, both use SQL 2005.

So far there are three questions

1, why it works after restart, but only last for a while? something about memory? since the backup db seldom need restart and work fine after many days.

2, why it gives error in compile stage?

3, why two dbs in different Enviroment has the same problem

The most answer I have gathered so far is permission issue, true I got similar error if the import file is located in a place which SQL has no right to access. But in this case, it should not be.

Any other idea or suggestion?

thanks

SQLExpress 2005 - Local Server

Mar 6, 2008

Good day, my apologies if thes question has been asked before, but I can't find anything with the exact same situation...

Just managed to successfully install SQL Express 2005 (in place of MSDE2000), kept the same database, which upgraded without a problem. I can connect to my local SQL server, but only if I use my full PC name, I get 'SQL server not found out access denied' and 'Specified SQL server not found' whenever I try with . or (local) or localhost.

My main issue is that I have a million and one batch files for all the features I use most to simplify my work, which now will not run as they all specify (local) instead of my PC name. Looking on the MS Support pages, I've tried various different options, none of which seem to make any difference at all.

Here is my current setup:

SQL Express 2005 - version 9.00.2047.00 - (installed with 'Default Instance', not 'Instance: SQLExpress')
Win XP Pro SP3 - version 3264
All of the following are enabled in 'SQL Server Config Manager' - Protocols for MSSQLSERVER:
Shared Memory
Named Pipes
TCP/IP
VIA

I also attempted to install the latest MDAC (version 2.8), and it tells me these components are already part of SP2.

Could anybody tell me if I am missing something, or need to install / update anything further? I am at a dead end with this now.

Thanks in advance,
Andre Greeff

Can I Connect To SQLExpress Instance Using (local)

Feb 19, 2007

Hello,

I am using the following connection string to connect to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition installed on my local PC.
string sqlstr = "Server=(local);Database=MyDB;User ID=sa;Password=sa;Trusted_Connection=False";

And it gives me the following error. The string works fine in computer with SQL Server 2000 instance but fails with 2005. The string also fails for "Server = localhost".
However the string works very fine if I use the name of Server 2005 i.e ./SQLExpress

===================================

Cannot connect to (local).

===================================

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)

------------------------------
Error Number: 2
Severity: 20
State: 0

------------------------------

Now the main problem is that, of course I could use a named instance, but since I am embedding the Connection String in a dll file so that any user can use it to connect it to the local instance of the SQL Server 2005 installed in his/her computer, I need to use "server = localhost". Doesn't SQL 2005 support this. If yes, where could i find option to enable it?

I have enabled every option available in surface area configuration for SQL Server 2005, but nothing seems to help out. I even use local as well as remote connections using both TCP/IP and named pipes.
Can nyone help me out?

Database On Server But SQLEXPRESS On Local Machine

But for the night-backup of the database I want to put the database on the company server.

Let's say the database is on: X:datamydatabase.mdf

Why cant't I attach this database with the manager of sqlexpress

Second:

I have installed on local machine sqlexpress AND also the database

Why can't I backup the file to the server like:

BACKUP DATABASE [mydatabase] to DISK=x:datamydatabase.bak WITH FORMAT

It looks I can only backup to the localmachine.

SQL Server 2012 :: XML Import Into Multiple Tables With Data Translation

Jul 17, 2014

I need to consume a live data feed from a golf tournament. And by consume, I really mean insert (merge) into our own SQL Server database on a regular intervals as a tournament progresses.This site didn't let me upload an XML file, but you can see a sample of the data feed here: URL....

I need to insert this data into 2 tables, Player_Holes and Player_Shots. But while doing the insert, I need to lookup several things such as our player ID match to theirs on an external_id against the players table. The shot types translation, and some other logic about the process overall.

The columns in my player_holes tables are: id, player_id, hole_id, round, shots (this is a total # of strokes) and date_created/date_modified.Shots table is similar: id, player_id, hole_id, round, shot_number, shot_type_id, club, distance, date_created/date_modified.

The only way I know how to do it, is inefficient. I would parse the XML in ColdFusion (please no comments on ColdFusion, that's what we use for webdev), and then loop over it and do inserts for each player, each hole for each round, and the shots would probably be separate for each hole.

It would be so much better and more efficient if I could do it in SQL directly. I've done some research and SQL Server Data Tools looks promising. I've never used it, so would have to learn, but also I'm not sure if that'd work in this application when we want to run is as a scheduled task every few minutes.

Handling Provider-level Errors From .Net SqlClient Data Provider

Jun 26, 2007

Hi,

After reading this helpful blog entry:

http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2007/05/13/sql-network-interfaces-error-26-error-locating-server-instance-specified.aspx

I think this might be a good place to ask the following question.

I am writing the error handling code for my data access layer for a web application. I am using the Enterprise Library Data Access Application Block. Although this supports generic database connections, I realized that I need to handle errors specific to each database type. Microsoft SQL is the only database type I am using for now, so I am using a try...catch (SqlException e).

In testing my code, I intentionally changed the instance name in web.config to a name that does not exist. I get the very popular error 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified. This is returned as a SqlException, but the SqlError.Number property is set to -1.

Am I getting "-1" because the provider hasn't actually connected to SQL yet, so it doesn't have an actual SQL error number?
Can I assume that (SqlError.Number == -1) is always a fatal, provider-level connection exception?
Will the provider ever use another SqlError.Number of its own? Or do all numbers besides -1 come from the SQL sysmessages table?.
Is there a comprehensive list of what exceptions might be raised by the SqlClient provider, including #26?

The reason for all the questions is that in a web application, I want to prevent the end-user from seeing the "real" exception if it has to do with configuration errors. However, maybe there are other errors that the user should see and handle? It's hard to know without a full list of SqlClient provider errors, along with the SqlError.Number that each error maps to.

Thanks and regards,

Mark

SQL 'Server' Or 'Local' Database For Uploading To Hosting Service Provider

Mar 23, 2007

Hi, I'm developing a website using VWD 2005 Express, which needs a Membership system and a products database. Using the VWD inherent Web Site Administration tool makes the membership set up easy but by default it creates a 'Local' SQL database in a folder named 'Apps_Data' in the VWD project. My question is: considering I will need to upload my web site to a Hosting Service, would it be better to change the default so that the membership systems, and the product database I need, are created in an SQL 'Server' database instead of a 'Local' database?
The hosting service I am considering using is having a bit of a problem understanding this question, I hope it makes sense to someone or am I asking a stupid question?
Regards
Sean.

Microsoft OLE DB Provider For SQL Server Error '80004005' On The Local Machine

Mar 18, 2008

Hi,

I using SQL 2005 on Vista machine.

After disconnected from VPN (Cisco) , I am not able to connect to my SQL. Getting the error Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005' Timed Out.

Restarting the SQL Server or Reset IIS, nothing works.

If I restart the machine, it works fine again.
If I don't connect to VPN, I have no problem.

I am wondering that might be the problem. I enabled all the protocols.

Thanks
Venkat

Named Pipes Provider: Could Not Open A Connection To SQL Server [53], But Only On The Remote, Not The Local

Jun 18, 2007

My connection string (to a remote instance of SQL Server Exress 2005) is exactly the same when the web files are located on my local machine or my remote machine, and while it works fine when I use the local web files, I get the following error when I use the remote files:

"Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [53]"

As you can see, since it works from the local version, I've setup SQL to accept remote connections via TCP/IP and Named Pipes. I'm using IIS7 on the local, and IIS6 on the remote, in case that makes a difference. I have other sites setup the same way, which work fine.

Any thoughts?

Oracle OleDb Provider As Source

Mar 16, 2007

Guys,

I am having a nightmarish time getting an Oracle Connection Manager working as a source in my SSIS package.

The CM is called "OLTP_SOURCE". When I inspect the configuration and test connection, it succeeds, however when I go to run the package (both in debug mode and via DTEXECUI) I get the following error:

The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "OLTP_SOURCE" failed with error code 0xC0202009

After this happens, if I go into an OLE DB Source within a DFT, I get the following:

No disconnected record set is available for the specified SQL statement.

Now, if I go back into the CM, enter the password and test, it succeeds. From this point, I will go to preview the data in the OLE DB Source, and it comes back fine. However, when I go to run the package, I get the same error time and time again:

The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "OLTP_SOURCE" failed with error code 0xC0202009

The quick reader will suggest that the password is not being persisted. To this end, I have tried each of the following techniques to no avail:

1. Double, Triple and Quadruple check that the "save" password option in the CM is checked.

2. Hardcode the connection string in the dtsx XML-behind.

3. Enable Package Configurations and hardcode the connection string in the dstsconfig file.

4. Run the dtsx file using DTEXECUI, providing it with the configuration (that includes the hard-coded password).

5. Run the dtsx file using DTEXECUI, providing it the connection string in the Connection Managager override UI.

Can anyone help shed some light on what might be going on? So far, it is obvious that there has to be something that I am doing wrong because (syntax dialect differences aside) I can't imagine that Oracle sources should be this much of a headache.

Thanks,

Rick
