Transport-level Errors Occur After Adding New IP Address

We get this error when we add IP addresses to the Windows system when SQL 2005
database activity is on-going:
Database error: A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results
from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The semaphore timeout
period has expired.)
.NET application can be running for weeks without error, but after adding a
new IP address, application gets 5-16 'transport-level errors' before
correcting itself.
Error occurs on Windows XP computer in our case. SQL Server, running on Windows server 2003, doesn't seem to pick up on the newly added IP address.

Ok, some background information:
I'm running an asp.net application.ASP.NET 2.0I'm using a SQL Server 2000 database.I don't have very many problems with the application, but when I do, I get this error message:

Here is what my connection string looks like, although from the stacktrace, it looks like its failing when I do an ExecuteReader. Any ideas why I'm getting this error?

Hi:
I exec local procs of archiving databases on 3 SQL 2000 Enterprise Servers. All three servers with following same error messages in the middle of processing(each had processed from 10 to 100 DBs already).

A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available.)
There is no error message in above 3 SQL's error log and all of them are up running fine.
Since the procs are in local, I did not use hostname or '.' to refer as 'Local'.
Any idea?

I have an SSIS package that calls a stored procedure via an ADO.NET Execute SQL Task. This stored procedure is long running - up to an hour. I am running the SSIS package on the same SQL Server that the SQL Task is connecting to.
I started to receive an error last night when calling it on my DEV box: "The semaphore timeout period has expired." I rebooted the server and tried again. Same error. I added some additional logging to see where I am within my stored procedure when the error happens and rebooted again. Same error. I made some other minor changes and rebooted and tried again. This time the error changed to: "The specified network name is no longer available".
This is running on a SQL Server 2K3 box. With the latest patches, including 4 that were installed this week.
Am I correct in interpretting these errors to say that the SSIS component is unable to maintain the SQL connection (to the same box) for the duration of the stored procedure run? Any other questions/advice?
Here are the 2 complete error messages:
Error: 0xC002F210 at Transform Invoice SQL Task, Execute SQL Task: Executing the query "EXEC dbo.sp_TransformInvoice @JobBatch_id = @JobBatch_id" failed with the following error: "A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. When i try to use SqlBulkCopy in vb.net to import 499 records i get the following error returned?
A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - The pipe has been ended.)
This then results in SQL Server services stopping - and forcing me to do a reset?
does any one know what would cause this and also how to fix it?

I just installed Microsoft SQL Server Express SP2. I setup a linked server to an Oracle database using the followings commands:

When I try and query the linked database I get the following error message:

I am using a direct connection from my Gridview to perform a huge database search. the stored procedure will take 10- 60 seconds to execute the query.
What the problem i am facing is when the sp takes long time (more than 1 minutes), then when i try any other operation like calling another sp frm another page, i am getting the above specified error.
Anybody can tell why is it happening?

Hi all,
I am new to SQL 2005. I have one issue and it is as follows:
I write a simple query and run it; it works fine.
Now I break the network connection and run the query; in this case it runs fine.
But when I reconnect the network and run the query, then I get an error as follows:
"A transport-level error has occurred when sending the request to the server. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 0 - An unexpected network error occurred.) "
Every thing is local here. So how the network issue comes here?

am trying to run a stored procedure which retreives 3 lakhs of records
and updates the data and moves few of those records to some tables.
Since the number of records are more , the time taken for the storede
procedure is around 30 minutes when i directly execute it in query
analyzer.
But I need to execute it from Visula Studio.Net 2005
(c#). Whole of the application contains only one form with a single
button.When I click on the button , this stored procure has to be
executed. But I am getting an error as shown below.

I've tried to search on the web for a solution for this error but i didn't find any working solutions for this problem. We have 2 servers. The first one is the server we use to develop our ASP.NET 2 application. On this server we don't have this error. On the other server (use by our client) we have this error sometime and i don't know why. Both servers have the same configuration and both application have the same web.config file.
I've tried to add a try-catch and retry the query when the error occured. This seems to be working but we don't want to have to change all our connections and since we don't have this problem on the other server we want to find the source of the problem.
Any idea ?

I have a database that is 1.7terabyte in size with 136gb free and throws a "transport level error" telling me to discard the results when I run dbccshrinkfile ('DBNAME', size). I have tried various increments of size, from truncateonly to 1MB below its current value, and nothing works. I have tried to detach and reattach the db, restart the service, restart the server, and none have provided a solution. Any ideas?

We've devoted a resource to this today, but I have to believe it's something easy that we're overlooking. The scneario is that we have a production Web application that until last weekend had a SQL 2000 back end. This weekend we installed a new instance of SQL 2005 and everything works (we tested in a sandbox environment, but someone must not have load tested enough) and never saw these exceptions. Basically the error that I am getting is in our test automation when running as non-admin on the box (regular user). We use .Net C# SQLConnection class to connect to SQL express 2005 impersonating with admin credentials. Lately, I have been experimenting with SSIS and I created a generic custom error logging component that saves all offending data on data flow component failure. However...
Instead of re-directing rows at the data flow level and handling/logging the data at that level, is it possible to catch all of this information at the package level and handle/process it there?
If so how would you do this?

I'm trying to add columns to an existing table using ADOX. I'm using C++/CLI. My code is as follow
Table->default->Append("new_column", ADOX:: DataTypeEnum::adWChar, 255);
Table->default["prev_instance_id"]->Properties["Jet OLEDB:Compressed UNICODE Strings"]->default = true;
The first line of code works fine but when I try to set the value of the property I get the following excpetion:
An unhandled exception of type 'System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException' occurred in MyDll.dll
Additional information: Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.
Any idea?

I think this might be a good place to ask the following question.
I am writing the error handling code for my data access layer for a web application. I am using the Enterprise Library Data Access Application Block. Although this supports generic database connections, I realized that I need to handle errors specific to each database type. Microsoft SQL is the only database type I am using for now, so I am using a try...catch (SqlException e).
In testing my code, I intentionally changed the instance name in web.config to a name that does not exist. I get the very popular error 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified. This is returned as a SqlException, but the SqlError.Number property is set to -1.
Am I getting "-1" because the provider hasn't actually connected to SQL yet, so it doesn't have an actual SQL error number?
Can I assume that (SqlError.Number == -1) is always a fatal, provider-level connection exception?
Will the provider ever use another SqlError.Number of its own? Or do all numbers besides -1 come from the SQL sysmessages table?.
Is there a comprehensive list of what exceptions might be raised by the SqlClient provider, including #26?
The reason for all the questions is that in a web application, I want to prevent the end-user from seeing the "real" exception if it has to do with configuration errors. However, maybe there are other errors that the user should see and handle? It's hard to know without a full list of SqlClient provider errors, along with the SqlError.Number that each error maps to.

I was hoping a sharp eye may be able to pick up on what I am doing wrong here, I am i must be making a comon mistake. If necessary I am happy to create and post a sample if necessary.
Problem:
The publication parent table has a filter (defined below) and also has a join filter(defined below) to a child table. When changes are made to the parent and child table and synchronised a conflict is raised. For the child table for some reason the merge agent is saying an explicit update occured at the publisher but the values at the publisher have not changed at all and no sql has been executed to update the publisher rows. This in effect is stopping the changes to the child table being applied until i manually apply them in the conflict resolver. The strange thing is the conflict should not occur in the first place.

Now the first thing to note with respect to using GetDate() i have read http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms365153.aspx so i thought that i would remove that portion of the Filter on the Job table just to see what happens.
SELECT <published_columns> FROM [dbo].[Job] WHERE convert(nchar,[companyID])=Host_Name() AND [JobCompletedDate] IS NULL
This still did not resolve the issue. I then Remove the AND [JobCompletedDate] IS NULL and it then started working fine (cool) but of course no longer satisfys the rule i want to create (seriously uncool ).
Any ideas out there ?

I'm trying to export sql table as fixed length text file with format file but I got the following error message:
Error = [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]
Warning: Server data (61 bytes) exceeds host-file field length (60 bytes) for field (4).
Use prefix length, termination string, or a larger host-file field size.
Truncation cannot occur for BCP output file
All fields in the SQL input table have char data type and I use the format file like this:

2 SQLCHAR 0 1 "" 2 NPARSED
3 SQLCHAR 0 115 "" 3 COMPANY
4 SQLCHAR 0 60 "" 4 ADDR1

28 SQLCHAR 0 2 "" 28 DPV
29 SQLCHAR 0 2 "
" 29 ZIP4CODE
I've been researched about this error but I couldn't find the clear answer.
The strange thing is that all the records are char() fields, not varchar()
And I checked the max length record for the 4th column(ADDR1) and it was 60, not 61.
However I'm still getting the error.
The output file was exported but some of the records have short length.
Is this some kind of bcp bug?
I used SQL Server 2000 Standard w/ SP4
And the following is the command that I used:
declare @cmd varchar(2000)
SET @cmd = 'bcp "Input_table" out "D:AddressUpdateTmpxFixADDR.dat" -fD:AddressUpdateTmpxFixADDR.fmt -Usa -Psapass -SMyMachine''

I am using following code to fill my dataset. when multiple user connect to the web-site it will give me following error:
Error Message: Transaction (Process ID 98) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction.
I am using stored procedure to select records from database.

I had write a ActiveX service to delete several tables and those records are more than 100000. When I test it by deleted 1000 records it is ok, but once the volum is increase until 100000, it will give me a error message said timeout operation fail.
how can i overcome this problem. please!!!!

I am using the TRANSPORT and self-routing and it works great. My question is: is there ever a need for more than one transport route when using multiple services, or should there just be one per database, generally speaking? What exactly does the presence of this route tell service broker? It seems as though it just signals service broker to use self-routing if it can't resolve the service any other way....similar to the way the LOCAL route works, only for remote services.
