I have a query which is working fine. Is it possible that if the table3's column(Child) is only related to table 1 to show it under table 1 and not under table 2, but at the same time another (Child) has a parent in table 2 (which usually is the case) it will show under table 2 as its currently doing.
In other words Child column is directly under Table2's row column name (Father), but occasionally it comes under Table1 with no relation to Table 2.
How can I out put that in a query for a treeview? I am assuming that I will have to program the out come in c# also with 3 for loops and in the second loop I can check if the column is grandchild or Child and make that as a second row or 2nd node of treeview, but I am having a problem building a query in sql.
The query below shows all Parent, then child then grand child(all well and working), but what is desired is at times child takes place of a father.
declare @x as xml set @x = ( SELECT distinct Table1.AssetSysID, Table1.Asset_ID , Table1.FromLR, Table1.Asset_ID + ', ' + Table1.[Desc2] as GarndFather, Table2.ACISysID ,Table2.PAssetSysID, Table2.FeatureName + ', ' + Table2.[DESC] AS Father, Table3.ITMSysID ,Table3.Item_ID + ',' + Table3.[DESC] as Child
Hi Everyone,I'm drawing a blank here and I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I have a table with the following columns (some omitted)IDGUIDPageNameParentPageID I want to build a hierarchical navigation system (2-tier). The conceptual problem that I am running into was getting this information from the same table. Initially I was going to use a nested repeater but I am thinking a treeview would be better. Anyway, the problem is the query. How would I start with something like this? Let's use the following as an exampleRows(ID '1', GUID '888....', PageName 'Page A', ParentPageID '-1')(ID '2', GUID '111....', PageName 'Page B', ParentPageID '-1')(ID '3', GUID '222....', PageName 'Page C', ParentPageID '-1')(ID '4', GUID '375....', PageName 'Page 1', ParentPageID '1')(ID '5', GUID '562....', PageName 'Page 2', ParentPageID '1')(ID '6', GUID '874....', PageName 'Page 3', ParentPageID '2') (ID '7', GUID '388....', PageName 'Page 4', ParentPageID '3') So, I want to be able to build a query so that I can do the followingPage A Page 1 Page 2Page B Page 3Page C Page 4 Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi guys, i need some help here regrading my project
i would like to create a tree view diagram by importing my data from database and display it in the tree view.. however im not sure how to implement it
ok i have a design question and since I am not a db designer I hope somebody can give me some insight into this...
I have an app that uses a treeview control to display a hierarchy of a machine assembly. Currently it only goes two levels deep (top level and a single subcomponent. WHat I would like to do is enable my users to add n-deep levels to the top level machine. The problem with that is that I can't think of a way to store this in a DB and how the table(s) structure would look like.
It seems like this would be a classic problem in DB design, but that is where I lack knowledge so any help will be greatly appreciated
I have an ASP.NET web application that uses a Treeview control to display what can potentially be a very large data set. In the past, I would just run a recursive stored procedure in my database that would output the XML which I would save to a file. The Treeview used the XML file as its data source. I did this because it can take so long for the stored procedure to run (10 seconds or more) that, it isn't practical to have the treeview point directly to the stored procedure. This worked well enough because the data didn't change very often.
Now, it looks as if the application will be used in a production environment, and I really need to find a way to supply up-to-date data to the treeview in a dynamic way. I have tried creating a view that would provide XML and that would be updated any time the target table is updated but, that has not worked. I have also tried creating a trigger that would output to an XML file any time an edit was made (using the xp_cmdshell functionality) but, that has proven difficult as well.
Is there a simpler solution that I am just missing? I just want an up-to-date XML representation of the data that is a result of a recursive function.
I'm trying to insert data into locally stored database (SQL Server). The data I want inserted, is presented in a Treeview control and the data is fetched from a Webservice. The data is returned in form of a dataset. The treeview contains checkboxes allowing a user to select what to install in the locally stored database.
To sum up:
1. Get data from a webservice' not my problem 2. Present data in a Treview control' not my problem 3. Allow to user to select which data to install' not my problem 4. Insert data that the user has selected into my db' MY PROBLEM!!!!
The Treeview is generated with DataRelations between Group and Rule.
My locally stored database is designed by a third party provider and therefore the database must not be altered. The table I want to store data in is called "Groups" and it looks like this:
GroupID uniqueidentifier ' (newid()) GroupName nvarchar(50) ParentGroupID uniqueidentifier' if grouptype = 0 then ParentGroupID must have a value. GroupType tinyint ' 0 = subgroup, 1 = "top"group
The third party also created a stored procedure called pr_AddGroup taking the following parameters:
@GroupName ' can be both the RuleName and the GroupName @GroupType ' can be 0 for subgroup or 1 for "top"group @ParentGroup ' GUID
The problem with this stored procedure is that it does not have return value, which is here my problem actually lies. If it returned @@IDENTITY I could use this as the parameter for @ParentGroup. Instead I figure I must create two sqlCommand's (one calling pr_AddGroup and another calling SELECT @@IDENTITY to get the newly created record).
My SQL Commands look like this
Dim cmd As SqlCommand Dim Conn As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection Conn.ConnectionString = "Data Source=myServer;Initial Catalog=myTable;Integrated Security=SSPI" cmd = New SqlCommand cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure cmd.Connection = Conn cmd.CommandText = "pr_AddGroup"
dim cmd2 as SqlCommand cmd2 = new SqlCommand cmd2.commandtype = commandtype.Text cmd2.commandtext = "SELECT @@IDENTITY as ID FROM Groups" cmd2.connection = Conn
dim ParentGroupGUID as system.guid
To get the data inserted in the Groups table I would something like the following, but the code is very ugly (and it doesn't work either);
For Each Group In TreeView1.Nodes ' Loop through Groups If Group.Checked Then cmd.Parameters("@GroupName").Value = Group.Text.ToString cmd.Parameters("@GroupType").Value = 1
For Each Rule In Group.Nodes ' Loop through Rules. If Rule.Checked Then cmd.Parameters("@GroupName").Value = Group.Text.ToString cmd.Parameters("@GroupType").Value = 1 cmd.Parameters("@ParentGroup").value = ParentGroupGUID cmd.ExecuteNonquery() End If Next Next
I've spent the last 5 hours figuring out this problem, so ANY help is appreciated :-)

ok can someone tell me why i get two different answers for the same query. (looking for last day of month for a given date)
SELECT DATEADD(ms, - 3, DATEADD(mm, DATEDIFF(m, 0, CAST('12/20/2006' AS datetime)) + 1, 0)) AS Expr1 FROM testsupplierSCNCR I am getting the result of 01/01/2007
"Error: 8624, Severity: 16, State: 1 Internal Query Processor Error: The query processor could not produce a query plan. For more information, contact Customer Support Services."
I have traced this to an insert statement that executes as part of a stored procedure.
INSERT INTO ledger (journal__id, account__id,account_recv_info__id,amount)
There is also an auto-increment column called id. There are FK contraints on all of the columns ending in "__id". I have found that if I remove the contraint on account__id the procedure will execute without error. None of the other constraints seem to make a difference. Of course I don't want to remove this key because it is important to the database integrity and should not be causing problems, but apparently it confuses the optimizer.
Also, the strange thing is that I can get the procedure to execute without error when I run it directly through management studio, but I receive the error when executing from .NET code or anything using ODBC (Access).
Hey, i've written a query to search a database dependant on variables chosen by user etc etc. Opened up a new sqldatasource, entered the query shown below and went on to the test query page. Entered some test variables, everything works as it should do. Try to get it to show in a datagrid on a webpage - nothing. No data shows. SELECT dbo.DERIVATIVES.DERIVATIVE_ID, count(*) AS Matches FROM dbo.MAKES INNER JOIN dbo.MODELS ON dbo.MAKES.MAKE_ID = dbo.MODELS.MAKE_ID INNER JOIN dbo.DERIVATIVES ON dbo.MODELS.MODEL_ID = dbo.DERIVATIVES.MODEL_ID INNER JOIN dbo.[VALUES] ON dbo.DERIVATIVES.DERIVATIVE_ID = dbo.[VALUES].DERIVATIVE_ID INNER JOIN dbo.ATTRIBUTES ON dbo.[VALUES].ATTRIBUTE_ID = dbo.ATTRIBUTES.ATTRIBUTE_ID WHERE ((ATTRIBUTES.ATTRIBUTE_ID = @ATT_ID1 and (@VAL1 is null or VALUE = @VAL1)) or (ATTRIBUTES.ATTRIBUTE_ID = @ATT_ID2 and (@VAL2 is null or VALUE = @VAL2)) or (ATTRIBUTES.ATTRIBUTE_ID = @ATT_ID3 and (@VAL3 is null or VALUE = @VAL3)) or (ATTRIBUTES.ATTRIBUTE_ID = @ATT_ID4 and (@VAL4 is null or VALUE = @VAL4)) ) GROUP BY dbo.DERIVATIVES.DERIVATIVE_ID HAVING count(*) >= CASE WHEN @VAL1 IS NOT NULL THEN 1 ELSE 0 END + CASE WHEN @VAL2 IS NOT NULL THEN 1 ELSE 0 END + CASE WHEN @VAL3 IS NOT NULL THEN 1 ELSE 0 END + CASE WHEN @VAL4 IS NOT NULL THEN 1 ELSE 0 END -2 ORDER BY count(*) DESC

Please help!

However, as you can see, the original select query is run twice and joined together. What I was hoping for is this to be done in the original query without the need to duplicate the original query.
I'm trying to find the command to open up an odbc conection inside sql2005 express. I only have ues of an odbc connector, we're conection to remedy. We will eventually be using stored procedures to extract the data we need from remedy and doing additional data crunching. I'm a foxpro programmer so once I get the correct syntax for making the odbc connector I shold be ok. Also I need a really good advanced book on sql2005. The type of book that would have my odbc answer. I've spent all morning trying to find this information and was unable to.
Thanks in advance
Daniel Buchanan.
If this was the wrong forum to post this on, please move this question to the correct one. I need this answer soon.
We have a issue with a MDS server that have been over us for a couple of days, the original error msg from SQL Server Engine is the one "The query processor could not produce a query plan" but the ones we get on the Excel-Addin are "Sequece contains no elements" or "The value cannot be null" T
• Using Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (SP1) - 11.0.3393.0 (X64) for 6months on this server without issues
• Two weeks ago we started to have 2 errors: "Sequence Contains No Elements" | "The Value Cannot Be Null"
• We are using the last version of Excel Add-in
• We try to reinstall the MDS feature
• If I backup/restore MDS database to other server it works
• We updated to SQL 2012 SP2 + CU4 but the error persisted ...
Looking at the MDSTraceLog we are routed to the this msg

how do I get the variables in the cursor, set statement, to NOT update the temp table with the value of the variable ? I want it to pull a date, not the column name stored in the variable...
create table #temptable (columname varchar(150), columnheader varchar(150), earliestdate varchar(120), mostrecentdate varchar(120)) insert into #temptable SELECT ColumnName, headername, '', '' FROM eddsdbo.[ArtifactViewField] WHERE ItemListType = 'DateTime' AND ArtifactTypeID = 10 --column name declare @cname varchar(30)
-- The 3rd query uses an incorrect column name in a sub-query and succeeds but rows are incorrectly qualified. This is very DANGEROUS!!! -- The issue exists is in 2008 R2, 2012 and 2014 and is "By Design"
set nocount on go if object_id('tempdb.dbo.#t1') IS NOT NULL drop table #t1 if object_id('tempdb.dbo
[code]....
This succeeds when the invalid column name is a valid column name in the outer query. So in this situation the sub-query would fail when run by itself but succeed with an incorrectly applied filter when run as a sub-query. The danger here is that if a SQL Server user runs DML in a production database with such a sub-query which then the results are likely not the expected results with potentially unintended actions applied against the data. how many SQL Server users have had incorrectly applied DML or incorrect query results and don't even know it....?
For each customer, I want to add all of their telephone numbers to a different column. That is, multiple columns (depending on the number of telephone numbers) for each customer/row. How can I achieve that?
I want my output to be
CUSTOMER ID, FIRST NAME, LAST NAME, TEL1, TEL2, TEL3, ... etc
Each 'Tel' will relate to a one or more records in the PHONES table that is linked back to the customer.
do i need to nest a query in RS if i want a calculated column to be compared against a multi value variable? It looks like coding WHERE calcd name in (@variable) violates SQL syntax. My select looked like
SELECT ... ,CASE enddate WHEN null then 1 else 0 END calcd name FROM... WHERE ... and calcd name in (@variable)
When viewing an estimated query plan for a stored procedure with multiple query statements, two things stand out to me and I wanted to get confirmation if I'm correct.
1. Under <ParameterList><ColumnReference... does the xml attribute "ParameterCompiledValue" represent the value used when the query plan was generated?
2. Does each query statement that makes up the execution plan for the stored procedure have it's own execution plan? And meaning the stored procedure is made up of multiple query plans that could have been generated at a different time to another part of that stored procedure?

I have two tables .. in one (containing user data, lets call it u).The important fields are:u.userName, u.userID (uniqueidentifier) and u.workgroupID (uniqueidentifier)The second table (w) has fieldsw.delegateID (uniqueidentifier), w.workgroupID (uniqueidentifier) The SP takes the delegateID and I want to gather all the people from table u where any of the workgroupID's for that delegate match in w. one delegateID may be tied to multiple workgroupID's. I know I can create a temporary table (@wgs) and do a: INSERT INTO @wgs SELECT workgroupID from w WHERE delegateID = @delegateIDthat creates a result set with all the workgroupID's .. this may be one, none or multipleI then want to get all u.userName, u.userID FROM u WHERE u.workgroupIDThis query works on an individual workgroupID (using another temp table, @users to aggregate the results was my thought, so that's included) INSERT INTO @users SELECT u.userName,u.userID FROM tableU u LEFT JOIN tableW w ON w.workgroupID = u.workgroupID WHERE u.workgroupID = @workGroupIDI'm trying to avoid looping or using a CURSOR for the performance hit (had to kick the development server after one of the cursor attempts yesterday)Essentially what I'm after is: SELECT u.userName,u.userID FROM tableU u LEFT JOIN tableW w ON w.workgroupID = u.workgroupID WHERE u.workgroupID = (SELECT workgroupID from w WHERE delegateID = @delegateID) ... but that syntax does not work and I haven't found another work around yet.TIA!

*Before* I actually call up Microsoft SQL Customer Support Services and ask them, I wanted to ping other people to see if you have ever ran into this exact error
"Internal Query Processor Error: The query processor could not produce a query plan. For more information, contact Customer Support Services."
I would have searched the forums myself, but at this moment in time, search is broken :(
If anyone has run into this error before, what conditions would exist that this could happen? That is, if I can sniff this out with suggestions from the community, I would be happy to do so.
It is an oddity because if I alter a couple subqueries in the where clause [ i.e., where tab.Col = (select val from tab2 where id='122') ]to not have subqueries [hand coded values], then the t-sql result is fine. It's not as if subqueries are oddities... I've used them when appropriate.

Hi all I'm using Sql server 2000 and sometimes i need to run my Queries in Query analizer before using them in my application just to test them...BUT most of the time when i run a query in query-analizer for second time ,query analizer populates the result (records) more quicker then the first time. Apparently it caches the query !!! i don't know but for some reasons i dont't want this , so how can i prevent Query-analizer from doing so? Thanks in advance. Regards.
I have a vb.net page that I need to display a list of employees who work in a specific office, based on a MatterID passed in a query string. But, I don't know how to get a value returned from one sql statement into a second. Here's what I'm trying to do... From the QueryString, we know that the MatterID = 4 ( xxx.aspx?MatterID=4) Knowing that the Matterid=4, I query the database to get the OfficeId for that MID (Select OfficeID from tMatter where Mid=4) ~This returns an OfficeID of 6 So, then I need to do another query to get the employees where OfficeID = 6 (Select EmployeeID from tEmployees where OfficeID = 6) How do I do these in one query, or how do I use the Calculated Value for the OfficeID in the 2nd statement?
