Triggering To Another Server

Jan 12, 2007

Is it possible to set up a trigger on a table on one Sql Server that will trigger an event on another SQL Server on a different box? I have never done this before, so I was wondering if it is possible and how to go about it.

Thank you

Todd

Triggering A Report

May 22, 2007

Is there a way to trigger a report to run and the be stored as a snapshot? We have a Reporting Build process that stores aggregate values into a summary table, however this stored proc takes a couple of hours to run. What we would like is to have a report run immediately after the stored procedure is complete and then the reports be able to be viewed on-demand, but already run and stored in the Report Server

Not know much about the SQL part of it, is this possible?

Thanks for the information.

Automatically Triggering The Run Of SSIS Pkg

Dec 31, 2007

Hi Everyone,

Is there any way to trigger the run of SSIS packages automatically each time an update comes from the source, and not schedule it for a constant interval of time.
The scenario is the enduser updates or adds data from the infopath forms. for that particular data he wanted to generate the report instantaneously. so we need to run the SSIS packages instantaneously when there is any update from source data. for this, is there any feature in SSIS that it can recognize the updates from source data like the proactive caching in SSAS.

Manually Triggering Subcriptions

Feb 24, 2007

Is there a way to do this? It would be useful to test whether a subsciption works. At the moment I am setting the scheduled time a few minutes ahead and waiting for the report to run.

Subsciptions are also a convenient way to store different parameter settings for a report.

My preference would be to to do this through the Report Server UI (presumably from the subscriptions tab).

Alernatively, being able to call a report (with paramters) from a stored procedure woukd be useful.

Thanks,

Dick Campbell

Triggering A Subscription In Reporting Services

Dec 8, 2006

I've read through several threads concerning the triggering of a subscription in RS by the use of a FireEvent. I have made this work using the following...

C:> rs.exe -i MyScriptFile.rss -s "MyReportServer/ReportServer"

where MyScriptFile contains the subscription/schedule ids. This works if I am signed on to the ReportServer C:> drive and execute the command line.

What I need to do is create a trigger based on data changing in an SQL database on one server and execute this line of code on the ReportServer on another server.

Do I need to use a stored procedure, extended stored procedure, or WHAT???? to execute this command?

Thanks! Wanda

Triggering Syncronize In Merge (or Other) Replication In MS SQL 2000

Jan 11, 2004

Hi All,

My question is regarding syncronization between two databases in MS SQL Server. If we wanted to do MERGE REPLICATION then we can set up pulishers and subscribers using the PS/SQL script (stored procedures) without having to use Enterprise Manager gui tools. I see that after you set all the publishers, distributors and subscribers and you want to start syncronization explicitly the only way you could do is go to Enterprise Manager and find the Publishing/Subscribing Items and right click on them and choost "Start Syncronization" (Sorry I have omitted the nitty-gritty details about how to find those Publishing/Subscribing items in Enterprise Manager).

I am wondering whether we could trigger the start of syncronization using any system stored procedures or without using Enterprise Manager.

Please let me know if you have any idea about it.

I will highly appreciate your response.

Thanks,

Niben Singh

Where Else Could An Event Be Triggering An Automated SQL Profiler Trace

Sep 13, 2007

I have discovered trace output in MSSQLDATAMSSQL.1MSSQLLOG that I have not kicked off. It is at various times and limited to 20MB. So that tells me a server event is kicking off a pre-defined trace. The trace contains mostly hash warnings and sort warnings.
I have looked through my Agent Jobs, Agent Alerts, and perfmon and don't find anything that is set up to kick off a trace under a specified condition.
I have checked the job activity, SQL error logs, SQL server logs, and the server's event viewer for any odd events or event times that correlate with the times of the traces.
I have checked each database's sys.sql_modules for a definition containing '%sp_trace%'.
Where else can I check to find what would be triggering these traces?

Our app logins don't have permissions high enough to run traces, I verified:

You do not have permission to run 'SP_TRACE_CREATE'

I am the DBA, not a .NET programmer -- so I am lacking experience if there's anything on the .NET side.

This is SQL 2005 64-bit running active/passive on a Win2003 clustered pair.

Time Out In Triggering A Sqlclr Stored Procedure

Jul 18, 2007

Hello,

I have a sqlclr stored procedure that works well if started via execute in SSMS. (The stored procedures makes a SSRS web service call.) When I install a trigger on a database table to execute the stored procedure

create trigger NewWdsStatsEntry on dbo.WDSSTATS after insert
as execute UpdateReportExecutionSnapshot N'http://localhost/ReportServer/reportservice2005.asmx', N'/Report1';
go

and add something to the table, I get the following error:

Msg 6522, Level 16, State 1, Procedure UpdateReportExecutionSnapshot, Line 0
A .NET Framework error occurred during execution of user-defined routine or aggregate "UpdateReportExecutionSnapshot":
System.Net.WebException: The request was aborted: The operation has timed out.
System.Net.WebException:

at UserProcedures.ReportService2005.ReportingService2005.UpdateReportExecutionSnapshot(String Report)
at StoredProcedures.UpdateReportExecutionSnapshot(String url, String reportPath)
.
The statement has been terminated.

The insert times out after 100 seconds and no row has been added to the table, but the web service call actually created a new report! Any idea why the trigger can't execute the stored procedure?
Thanks!

Trigger With Exec Statement Blocking Execution Of Triggering Cmd?

Jul 20, 2005

I have a trigger on a table. I am trying to dynamically log thechanged fields on the table to another table, so I am iteratingthrough the bits in COLUMNS_UPDATED() to find what's changed, andgetting the column name programatically. This is all working fine.If I do a regular insert command in my trigger then everything worksfine. However, since I want to retrieve data from the column namewhich I got programatically from the inserted and deleted tables (toget the old and new values) I wanted to do something like this:insert into auditTransactionLog (TableName,PrimaryKeyId,ColumnName,OldValue, NewValue, ActionType) EXEC( 'SELECT(''cmContactInfo''), I.contactID,'''+ @colname+''', D.'+@colname+',I.'+@colname+', '+@action+' FROM inserted I INNER JOIN Deleted D onI.ContactId = D.ContactId')The presence of this line of code appears to be preventing theupdating of the table with the trigger. Is there some reason why Ican't do the EXEC in the trigger? If I did it without EXEC it worksfine but I have no idea of getting at the D. and I. @colname columnsotherwise. Thanks for any help!Rebecca

Memory Configurations For SQL Server 2005 EE X64 With SQL Server 2000 EE X32 On Windows Server EE X64 Server

Apr 20, 2007

My server is a dual AMD x64 2.19 GHz with 8 GB RAM running under Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with service pack 1 installed. We have SQL 2000 32-bit Enterprise installed in the default instance. AWE is enabled using Dynamically configured SQL Server memory with 6215 MB minimum memory and 6656 maximum memory settings.

I have now installed, side-by-side, SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition in a separate named instance. Everything is running fine but I believe SQL Server2005 could run faster and need to ensure I am giving it plenty of resources. I realize AWE is not needed with SQL Server 2005 and I have seen suggestions to grant the SQL Server account the 'lock pages in memory' rights. This box only runs the SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 server databases and I would like to ensure, if possible, that each is splitting the available memory equally, at least until we can retire SQL Server 2000 next year. Any suggestions?

SQL Server 2000 Databases To SQL Server 2005? Enterprise Manager And Management Stuio At The Same Server?

Feb 13, 2008

When I proposed start to use SQL Server 2005 for new VS 2005 web sites, one of my co-workers responded that
we will update the old SQL Server 2000 databases to SQL Server 2005 when we are ready to use 2005 SQL Server.

Questions:
1. Any expected problems to upgrade old 2000 databases to new 2005 SQL Server?
2. I have installed both 2005/Management Studio Express and 2000/Enterprise Manager in my PC. Any expected
problems when running both 2000 and 2005 SQL Server at the same database server?
3. What is the best configuration for running SQL Server 2005 when we have old 2000 databases? Upgade or not upgrade?

TIA,
Jeffrey

Can't Connect .Net Application From Windows Server 2003 To Database Server (SQL Server 2000)

Apr 3, 2008

Hi,
I am having a problem connecting my .net applications from the application server to the database server. When I run the application from my windows xp (sp2) box it works fine. When I try to connect via SQL Management Studio to the database server from the application server I get the same error.
Here is the error:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
 Here is the Environment:
App Server:
Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
Inside Company's Firewall/ Network
Database Server:
Windows Server 2000 Advanced Edition
SQL Server 2000 SP4
Remote Connections to the Server is checked
Enable Protocols: Named Pipes & TCP/IP
TCP/IP Port: 1402 (I don't know why it isn't the default of 1433)
The db server is sitting out side the Company's firewall (don't ask me why). I can access it fine from inside the firewall on my XP box but not from windows server 2003. There is a web server outside the our network that also connects to the db server with no problem and that is running Windows Server 2003 Web Edition.
I can ping the db server from the app server using the IP address.
I tried using the IP address and the port 1402 in my connection string but that didn't work from any machine (XP and Server).
I imagine the issue is somehow related to the company's firewall but why would it only block Windows Server 2003 and not XP?
What do I tell the network admin to change?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Oran

Help! SQL Server Error - [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Invalid Object Name ...

Jul 23, 2005

Dear all,On Win2000 server with SP3, I am trying to access a SQL Server 7.0database, "TestDB", from VB6 via a SQL Server ODBC system DSN using ADO2.7. In SQL Server Enterprise Manager, there is a login named "Tester".In its property window, NO "Server Roles" was assigned but its"Database Access" was set to "TestDB". This login was also made as theuser of "TestDB" with "public", "db_datareader" and "db_datawriter"selected as its "Database role membership". All the tables I am tryingto access in "TestDB" were created under "Tester".My code is like:Set conn = New ADODB.Connectionconn.Open "DSN=TestDSN;UID=Tester;PWD=test"Set cmd = New ADODB.Commandcmd.ActiveConnection = conncmd.CommandText = SQLset rs = cmd.Execute()If I set the SQL to something like "SELECT * FROM tbl_test", I alwaysget an error of "-2147217865" saying "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL ServerDriver][SQL Server] Invalid object name tbl_test". If I set the SQL to"SELECT * FROM Tester.tbl_test", everything runs properly. Could anyoneplease kindly advise why the first SQL is not working? Or in otherwords, why must I prefix the table name with its owner while the DBconnection is already made under that owner name? Thanks in advance.Tracy

Problem Occurs When Migrating A SQL Server 2000 Database To A SQL Server 2005 Server

Sep 20, 2006

When I try to migrate a database on a SQL Server 2000 server to a SQL Server 2005 server with the Copy Database Wizard of the SQL Server Management Studio, I'm confronted with the following problem;

Performing operation...

- Add log for package (Success)
- Add task for transferring database objects (Success)
- Create package (Success)
- Start SQL Server Agent Job (Success)
- Execute SQL Server Agent Job (Error)
Messages
* The job failed. Check the event log on the destination server for details. (Copy Database Wizard)

When I take a look at 'Event viewer' on the SQL 2005 server, the following error is displayed;

InnerException-->An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.
When connecting to SQL Server 2005,
this failure may be caused by the fact
that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
(provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

I already enabled the MSSQLSERVER network configuration protocols (TCP/IP and Named Pipes ).

How do I solve this problem?

An Error Has Occurred While Establishing A Connection To The Server. When Connecting To SQL Server 2005, This Failure May Be Caused By The Fact That Under The Default Settings SQL Server Does Not Allow Remote Connections.

Jan 22, 2008

My site works fine in VWD2008 express, but I get this error when I try to use it on my live website.
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
According to this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914277  I am supposed to:

1.
Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, point to Configuration Tools, and then click SQL Server Surface Area Configuration.
Ok, there is no such program in this folder.  The only thing in there is "SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting"...
The other thing I am greatly concerned with is this:  All is want is for my webpages to be able to access my database for user authentication.  I DO NOT want to grant the internet rights to remote connect to my database.
