Trouble Hiding A Group With A Subreport In A Table

Mar 17, 2008

Let me first describe my report: I have the following table

Header
Group 1 row--There is a textbox that in this row that when toggled makes visible the two below group 1 rows and the detail row.
Group 1 row
Group 1 row
Detail row
Group 2 row-- This row has a textbox that can hide the below group 2 row.
Group 2 row-- This row contains a subreport.

Currently, I have a parameter that allows the user to conditionally collapse or show the tables' information for printing purposes so the user doesn't have to go through and click on so many plus signs. My problem is I would like to use a parameter to conditionally hide both of the Group 2 rows so that the user cannot view or click on them. The information in Group 2 is extra and not always needed, so I would like to provide the user with a way to hide this information when they go to view the report. However, I imagined this would be easy enough. I went to group2's visibility tab through the table interface and set the expression to "=IIF(Parameter!ShowIndexes.Value, FALSE, TRUE)". However, when I view the report the report is hiding the detail information as well as the Group2 rows.

Anyone have any ideas?

Reporting Services :: Hiding Subreport If Parent Report Row Containing Subreport Is A Certain Value

Jul 14, 2015

Using SSRS 2014 and VS2013 rc5.

How do I hide a subreport if the parent report row containing the subreport is a certain value? I am attempting to create a statement with ageing buckets. In the main body of the report I have to display payments and invoices. If the invoice row is blank, I need to hide the row containing the subreport.

First, Is this even possible?
Second, How?

Hiding A Subreport

Jul 24, 2007

We have a parameter that takes the values of "Yes" or "No" (non-queried). If the user chooses "Yes", we want the subreport to display, but remain hidden on "No".

In the expression for visibility, we have the following:
=IIf(cstr(Parameters!Heading.Value = "Yes"),False,True)

When the report runs we get the following error: "The input string was not in the correct format."

Has anybody seen this before?

Thanks for the information.

Subreport In Group Of Table

Feb 19, 2008

Hi all,

I am creating a report based on a table in SQL Server 2005 Reporting Sevices. I need to display a subreport within the groupheader of a group I inserted to the table.
When I try to preview the report I'll get the following error: "An error occured during local report processing. An internal error occurred on the report server."

When I place the subreport outside of the table the report runs.
I tested the scenario in an emty table. When I place the report in the details row the subreport is displayed succesfully. If I insert a group to the table and place the subreport in the groupheader the same error occurs.

Is it impossible to use a subreport in a groupheader? If not, does anyone have an idea how to sove this issue?

Thanks!
Dirk

Thanks,

Hiding Header Row In A Group

Mar 21, 2007

I have a table with a group. I have one row of the group that is the header for the detail section. How can I suppress the row header in the group if there is no data in the detail section for a group value? I was thinking something along the line of setting the visibilty of the row header to an expression based on the existence of data in the detail, but don't know how to go about this.

Thanks.

Hiding Subtotal Rows When There Is Only 1 Row In The Group

Feb 13, 2007

How could one do this? I understand you could use the COUNT() function, but I'm not sure which object's visibility would best support this. All that I've tried (subtotal area, group visibility) do not seem to work.

If you change the visible property on the subtotal textbox that RS adds, it will only 'blank out' the area where the subtotal row would have been - this doesn't achieve the desired effect of saving space.

Group By / Hiding Report Items (Newbie)

Apr 3, 2008

Hi. First, I am VERY new to SQL Queries and Reporting. A co-worker is "mentoring" me, but I am trying not to fill his day with questions.

I HAVE read the help files, searched the forums, looked at books, and done general web searches, but any answers I have found have either no addressed my issue, or the answers are way over my head.

Furthermore, the (SQL 2000) DB is built into proprietary software (ISS Proventia Intrusion Prevention System), and the database may NOT be modified outside of the software.

With that said, I am querying multiple tables within the DB. I am using Business Intelligence Dev Studio, and placing my queries on a reporting server maintained by my co-worker. My goal is not only to get a solution, but also to UNDERSTAND it so I can continue to learn. Of course, the solution takes precedence over my understanding!

My Primary key is dbo.SensorData1.SensorDataID. dbo.SensorDataAVP.AttributeText returns a different number of rows, containing different data depending upon the value of dbo.SensorData1.AlertName. I need to return all rows, hence the Left Joins.

Depending upon my query, I might have 1000 events, and due to the many rows of data from dbo.SensorData1.AlertName I might return 20,000 rows (or more.)

I would like to return a report that "groups" events by dbo.SensorData1.SensorDataID., BUT, rather than simply providing these in groups, provides me single rows with a plus sign next to each even, that can be expanded for the additional data.

My co-worker has discussed sub-tables, but since I cannot modify the DB, it will be difficult / complex to do so, AND, for me to understand.

One of my queries follows. I have thirteen queries, total, that use various groupings of attributes. I have chosen one of the more complex combinations so I can generally apply the concept to the queries with fewer parameters more easily.

Note, I'll be asking the same question on www.sqlservercentral.com in the hopes of getting an answer I can understand one of these two places - If you answer here, there's obviously no need answering there answering there.

Thank you in advance.

Hiding A Group Also Hides All Nested Groups

Mar 7, 2007

I have several nested sub-total groups. Depending on a report parameter, I may want to suppress one of the sub-totals. This one group is not the lowest group in the hierarchy and, when I hide it, all the groups "below" it become hidden too. I only want the one group to "disappear", not any others. Is there a way to accomplish this other than creating two versions of the report?

Using A Subreport In A Group

Jun 26, 2007

We have a strange problem. We have a grouping that returns summed values in textboxes (in the group header) and the last column includes a subreport. When we run the report, the textboxes in the group returns the sums, however the subreport displays "No Rows Returned" as that is the parameter value for NoRows. However, we know that there should be some rows in the subreport as when we preview that report using the same parameters, it displays properly.

Just for fun, we created a new group header (using the same grouping level) that included nothing except for that subreport and when we preview the report, it properly shows the subreport values.

What could be wrong here? And thanks for the information.

Subreport Throwing An Exception When Placed In A Group Footer

Jul 24, 2006

I ran into this a few weeks ago and found that several others had as well, but no one had yet found an answer. I found the answer (at least one of the answers) this weekend and wanted to share it. I had recently added a subreport to a group footer in a table and started getting an error. Depending on the data, the error wasn't always present. I didn't have a problem when I moved the subreport to any other area in the report.

Here is the error I was getting:

An error occurred during local report processing

An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details.

It was a local report (rdlc), so naturally, there was no error log <g>. I added an event handler for ReportError and collected this information:

This wasn't exactly enlightening, an exception in an ASSERT in the reporting services dll, but since I knew that results varied with different data, I tracked it down that way.

THE SOLUTION:

The problem occurs when data for group expression is null. If there is no subreport in the group footer, this isn't an issue, but if there is, you get the error. For instance, if your data comes from a SQL statement with a LEFT OUTER JOIN (as mine did), and the group expression uses a column that contains nulls as a result of the LEFT OUTER, this exception will be thrown. This one was VERY DIFFICULT to track down, but it's easily reproducable. It has nothing to do with what (if anything is) on the subreport, what the data the subreport uses looks like, whether there are parameters or not. It's purely having nulls in the data used by the group expression for the main report. I found that if I changed my SELECT from mytable.mycolumn to ISNULL(mytable.mycolumn, 0) the error went away.

Trouble With GROUP BY

Oct 11, 2007

Not 100% sure I'm doing this correctly in the first place but I have an orders table that has a FK back to the employee that processed the order and the time it was ordered. What I'd like to do is get the most recent order for each employee but this seems to be escaping me... I tried something like.

SELECT Employee, MAX(OrderDate)
FROM Orders
GROUP BY Employee

This works all fine and dandy but I need to get other data from the most recent row.

Any help is much apperciated

Trouble Using Group By Statement With Query

Mar 20, 2007

Hi,
I am having trouble getting my query right. i am using a stored procedure to retrieve this data and bind it to my grid view.
Problem: I can't associate a field with a column that i am returning with my record set.
Details: I have query that i want to return 9 columns (UserName, Pre-Approved, Processing, Underwriting, Conditioned, Approved, Docs Out, Docs Back, Conditions Met). The username column lists all loan agents. I want the other 8 columns to list the name of the borrower (crestline..borrower.lastname)  that is associate with that loan agent and that loan state.  Each time a record is found where there is a valid loan agent (UserName) that meets the 'where' conditions, there will be a borrower. the 'LoanKey' field is a primary key that lets me get the borrower name from the borrower table. I dont know how to construct my query such that those borrower names get associated with their respective column header.
if the query works, my Gridview should look like this ('Name' refers to the borrower name)
UserName | Pre-Approved | Processing | UnderWriting | Conditioned | Approved | Docs Out | Docs Back | Conditions Met
Bob           |                     |                  |                     |    Name      |                |               |                   |

Hiding A Table

Feb 28, 2008

Hi,

I am designing a report with a few tables in it which i selectively want to hide if there is no data to display in them.
The tables hide themselves but leave behind a big void without compressing the fields beneath them.

Is there anyway to make sure that the tables are hidden and it compresses the space which it would have otherwise occupied?

The two methods i have tried are:

1. Put an expression in the visibility property and set it to true if the row count is zero
2. set the expression in the NoRows property to =""

(both without luck)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Ash

Table Not Centering After Hiding Two Of Its Columns

Dec 31, 2007

I have a table with 7 columns and it centers perfectly on my report. However, based on what the user selects when running this report, two of the columns can end up hiding. When I hide these two columns, which happen to be in the middle of the table, the table then appears to be left aligned because two of the columns are now gone so everything shifts.

The only reason its centered with 7 columns is because I have streteched all the columns out to certain sizes to make everything fit on the page and this is what is lost when 2 of those columns are dynamically removed.

Is there a way to keep everything centered even with these two columns gone? Is there a better way to ensure centering now matter how many columns exist in a table?

Thanks,
Flea

For testing, I created the subreport without a parameter and added it to the main report.  When I ran it that way, the report worked and sub report displayed the data.  So I know it can read from the database. It seems to only give me this error when I am trying to tie the two reports together using a parameter.

can't we supress the white space?
The white space width is exactly the width of the column which is hidden.
My designing in layout is wrong?
Else is that Problem with the SSRS?
Experts Please let me Know!!!!
Give me Solution!!!
Customer is strictly focusing on that requirement.

***Note: white Space is Some what Acceptable. But My Reports are very big like 45 columns around. When he selects 10 out of 45 then you can assume how much space is coming????????****

Subreport In The Table

Oct 4, 2007

Dear All

I have 2 report. one report master and the other is detail report.
i have this record

NetSales 1000
-------------Gross 1200
-------------Discount 200
Contribution 1 800
-------------zzzz 100
-------------yyyy 100

Contribution 1 is Netsales-zzzz-yyyy. in my cube i use customrollupcolum. so that in pivot table this condition is no problem. but in the RS is problem.

so, in RS i use 2 report. one report as master define group1 (NetSales, Contibution 1). and the other report as detail of master report. so i use subreport in the table in master report. but the parameter in the sub report cannot handle value parameter from table (netsales, contibution 1).

how can i do that

thanks

Subreport On Each Grouping In Main Table

Feb 25, 2008

I have constructed my main report using the table item from the toolbox. In maintable I have two groupings.

In the maintable I have grouping2 set for a page break after each grouping.

I have set the subreport parameter to the field value of the maintable grouping2.

I want to display the contents of the subreport after grouping1 of the maintable on the same page.

I have achieved a result by placing the subreport in maintable_group2 footer. However when I save it as an excel sheet it says "Subreports within table/matrix cells are ignored".

I really don't like how the report displays like this in the report server however I will need to export this report to excel.

Have I explained my issue well enough?

No Table Header When Subreport Overflows To New Page

Feb 25, 2008

Hi guys,

I hope hope you can help me because I am sort of helpless here. I searched the web for this issue ("reporting services subreport overflow to new page no table header in main report"), however could not seem to be lucky enogh to find a result. The search string pretty much sums it up: A table cell of my report contains a sub-report that displays multiple lines of data itself. If the data output of the sub-report is long enough to overflow to the next page, the table header of the main report table is not displayed on the new page.

Some background info:
The data table of this report has three data rows per record, the first of which contains a cell containing an employee's name and some more merged cells containing the sub-report in question. The header row of the main report data table has the attribute "RepeatOnNewPage" set to true and the data table itself has the attribute "RepeatHeaderOnNewPage" also set to true. If it matters, the SQL Server version is the one needed to run MS CRM 3.0 - 2000 it was, IIRC. My software design environment ist Visual Studio 2003 with the Reporting Services addon.

So, if anyone of you knows, what do I have to do to display the table header even on the pages a sub-report overflows to?

I very much look forward to your answers or helpful links.

Best regards
Tobias

Subreport, Start Page And Table Header

Feb 27, 2007

My problem is about the rendering behaivor of large subreports (more than 1 page) In that cases the subreport begins in a second page (a new page), it skips the end of the first page and starts on the top of the next page, leaving the first page with blank space. Another efect of this behaivor is that the parent table's header row will not print to the next pages even it the RepeatOnNewPage is set to true.

I saw many posts related to this (I list them at the end) and only one answer from the Microsoft team (in the post of the user Luca B. - sub-reports don't start in the first page http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=18227&SiteID=1). In resume, the answer is that there are an implicit keep toghether property and that this behaivor will be reviwed in the fucture

I am using SQL Server 2005 with SP2 and the "behaivor" continues.

Someone of the Microsoft team can tell us if this behaivor will be changed and when?

I find the folowing posts reletade to the problem:

Trying To Save Editted Textbox Value In Table But Original Value Saves Instead - Trouble With Table Update Query

Jan 9, 2008

This program gets the values of A and B passed in. They are for table columns DXID and CODE. The textbox GET1 is initialized to B when the page is loaded. When I type another value in GET1 and try to save it, the original initialized value gets saved and not the new value I just typed in. A literal value, like "222" saves but the new GET1.TEXT doesn't.
