Trouble In Installation Of SQL Server Express Edition SP2
Mar 8, 2007
Hi I have Visual Studio 2005 with SP1 installed, and I want to install the Management Studio. I tried many times installing that and I always got the same problem, which is when I try to create a database in VS I just don€™t get trough as I used to. A message appears saying that I€™ve to enable some estance. So to resolve the problem I saw if is everything ok with the SQL Server, which seemed to be fine, but I couldn€™t start the Report service.
Now I just formatted the computer and I€™m afraid to happen all over again. May be the version with only the Management would be fine, I don€™t know if it adds something beside of that.
Thank you very much.

Hi,
I am trying to install SQL Express on Window Home XP and SCC is returning the following error:
The SQL Server Configuration Checker cannot b execute due to WMI configuration on the machine ..... Error 2147942405 (0X80070005).
I tried running the following batch file which I believe resolved the same issue that someone else raised earlier (though I am not sure whether the OS was Home XP)
Will upgrading from XP Home to XP Professional (academic version) help me install SQL express successfully>
The Batch file I ran looks like this:
FIXWMI.CMD
------------------------
@echo on
cd /d c: emp
if not exist %windir%system32wbem goto TryInstall
cd /d %windir%system32wbem
net stop winmgmt
winmgmt /kill
if exist Rep_bak rd Rep_bak /s /q
rename Repository Rep_bak
for %%i in (*.dll) do RegSvr32 -s %%i
for %%i in (*.exe) do call :FixSrv %%i
for %%i in (*.mof,*.mfl) do Mofcomp %%i
net start winmgmt
goto End
:FixSrv
if /I (%1) == (wbemcntl.exe) goto SkipSrv
if /I (%1) == (wbemtest.exe) goto SkipSrv
if /I (%1) == (mofcomp.exe) goto SkipSrv
%1 /RegServer
:SkipSrv
goto End
:TryInstall
if not exist wmicore.exe goto End
wmicore /s
net start winmgmt

Any suggesstions will be geatly appreciated.

During installation, I get a warning message that the hardware doesn't meet minimum requirement. But I'm running it on a laptop with 30 gigs of free space and running Windows XP home edition.
When I click on install anyway, I end up getting an error message that I need a "sqlncli.msi" file that can't be found.
Could it be because I have both 2.0 NET and 3.0 NET installed?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I have Windows Vista, and I am tryed to install SQL Server I downloaded from MSDN. I tried both Express and Developers Edition but both give me this error when trying to install SQL Database Services
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup
------------------------------
SQL Server Setup Failed to compile the Managed Object Format (MOF) file c:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Sharedsqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof. To proceed, see "Troubleshooting an Installation of SQL Server 2005" or "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help documentation.
For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=20476&ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.1399.06&EvtSrc=setup.rll&EvtID=29513&EvtType=sqlca%5csqlmofca.cpp%40Do_sqlMofcomp%40Do_sqlMofcomp%40x7349
Of course the help link is useless, sure looks purdy though.
Anything you folks out there on WWW can do to help will be appreciated. Please put your posts in English. By that I mean I am not that good with computers when it comes to troubleshooting so keep the technical stuff short and sweet.

Just curious if there's a reason why everytime I try to apply the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 2 from Windows Update that it will sit at "Installing" and appear to do nothing (no hard drive activity, but the MSI and setup processes are chewing a little bit of CPU time). How long should I give this update to complete? I am running a 2-CPU dual-core Xeon 3.0GHz w/ 2GB of RAM setup, so I would have thought it would be completed very quickly. :(
Edit:
Disregard; I had to wait for a full 15 minutes! :O

I downloaded the 2 CD ISO Format from msdn to install SQL Server 2005 English Developer Edition on my XP SP2 box.
I currently have SQL 2000 running. So Sql Server 2005 Dev Edition is to run side by side in a named instance.
From CD1, I launched default.hta and could not install Database Services. The log mentioned could not find a 'valid copy of xxx.msi' where xxx is VSS writer, Database Services or SQL XML4 etc...
I tried 3 times and each time it damaged my SQL2000 beyond repair.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks

Hello..
I've installed Visual Basic 2005 express edition & tried to connect to SQL Server 2005 express edition. I noticed that VB2005 Express Edition doesn't have any OLEDB provider for SQL Server. The only OLEDB Provider is for M.Access. Is this correct? if so, what should i do if i want to connect SQL Server 2005 express edition with VB2005 express edition by using OLEDB connection type?
I really appreciate any respond from you guys.. Thank's and waiting for the good news..

"the procedure entry point_create_locale could not be located in the dynamic link library MSVCR80.dll"
I have tried to reinstall Native Client and Setup Support Files with no effect... I have .NET 2.0 installed along with VB Express 2005 and VWB Express 2005... I am running on Windows XP Home SP2.
If anyone could help me, I would greatly appreciate it... I am stuck and can't get any work done until I get this program installed...

I've installed this applicaton many times, however, while setting up a new virtual server for TFS, the person installing the server piece didn't choose the appropriate security mode to use when logging in. Due to this, we attempted to reinstall the management studio and the installation keeps failing. We've hit many challenges up and includig using the original cd's instead of an install from a network location. When attempting to install it fails, when we put the error into help, there isn't any help on the topic. We have managed to install everything except XML and management studio. The studio I can go without, but TFS needs the XML piece. Any ideas?

Hiya,
We were recently let down by our software supplier who have happily provided us with a single processor license for SQL Server 2005 before the weekend.. but haven't been able to provide any installation media.
I notice on the website that there is a trial edition of the Enterprise edition for download, that can be converted into a full installation by using a valid license key.
My question is.. would I be able to use that trial edition with my license key? Or are they fundamentally different?
If that isn't an option.. is there anywhere where I can obtain installation files for standard edition?
Thanks in advance,
--
Tim

Hi,
I am using SQL Express 2005 server and sql compact edition for my PDA. For synchronization, which SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Server Tools installation package do I use?
Is it Sqlce30setupen.msi or sql2kensp4.msi or sql2kensp3a.msi? I know for sql server 2005 its Sqlce30setupen.msi. Is it the same for the SQL Express 2005?
Thanks

Hi there, i have sometimes trouble to write data to a table in a sql server expr. database.
i have a vb.net application that writes every 2 minutes data to a table. sometimes (no regulary phenomen) the error appears after some hours, sometimes after some days. then i cannot write data in the table. it seems that the database sleeps or is offline.
before i write the data i check if the connection is open and i can write data.
if i cannot write the data i try several times and often after the third try i can write the data.
i have checked everything (no power save's on or other power off modes)
i have also test it with SqlClient.SqlConnection.ClearAllPools()
and many other things to find the bug, but no success at the moment.
it seems that the database or the table is away ?? or sleeps for some seconds ?!? i have no idea.
could you help me ?
Greetings Andreas

I am having trouble updating my database. I have seen a couple of other people had the same problem. Two answers I had found and tried did not work. The updating if newer I had already came across in a step by step class room tutorial written by a college professor and to make sure the save procedure came after the update procedure. I did need to make this last change but its still not updating. Any further advice on this subject would be appreciated.
